Thanks for the update Claire. I too love the Drawing range. As well as gorgeous pencils they are very significant to me as my brother in law gave me the money to buy the set before he died a few years ago.
I got the 150 set at the start of May and have nearly used up the Dusky Purple as it’s perfect for going over my mechanical pencil line work, it’s like inking a sketch but with a pencil. It’s dark enough but not as heavy as using plain black. I bought 5 more from Cult Pens. I also love the Saffron Mango as it’s a wonderful highlight shade for darker tone skin

I'm so happy to hear this. I'm in the US and didn't even realize until more recently that there is a 100 set. I ended up buying Cult Pens set to get me up to the 100. I know I was frustrated too since not only do I have to order from the UK and the whole conversion stuff, to then hear I wouldn't be able to get an add on set to get the new 50, just grrrr. At this point, I'm not spending the $ for the 150 here in the US, but I'm happy that I may be able to get just the 50 and at minimum order open stock from the UK if the pencil gets used up. Thanks, Claire! Well, in my case (EU) the pricing of the 78 addional ones is a bit weird: it's way cheaper for me to buy an entire set of 150 on Amazon than it is to buy the 78. Ridiculous.

I hope that they add also darker greys in the Derwent drawing pencils and maybe some pink color. I feel that those colors are what I'm constantly missing when coloring with them.
I had decided not to purchase Chromaflow because the additional 50 were not available open stock. So happy they now will be available open stock and I can get them in the U.S. I am looking forward to comparing them to Prismacolor (my go to pencils). Thank you Claire for the great news.

I'm in the U.S. and i got my 150 Derwent Chromaflow a couple days ago (it is the 15th of June today!!)!!!!! They got stopped in Australia customs for a moment, but came all in one peice!! The tin is a little bent on a corner which is annoying bc no way in HADES am i returning them, but it has some trouble closing the lid. All the pencils, aka "What Matters!!" are in perfect condition. and i got to fill out the WHOLE color Chart you made for us!! A very exciting time!!!!

I really hope that we will be able to buy the Chromaflow 150 set in South Africa. As well as open stock. And extended number to the Drawing set would also be wonderful.

I hope it's true that all colours go open stock. Today my local art store is promoting this 150 set as limited, stating the 50 extra colours will NOT be available open stock. This really shows that it was Derwent's plan from the start, and that maybe due to the backlash they are now looking to change that.
Well done for managing to get some information from Derwent, they really need a better social media team, their new releases are so badly managed. I thought they would get there in the end, but gosh, they have made hard work of this! Yay for loose stock, I’ve been enjoying these, would be sad if I couldn’t replace easily! 👍🏻❤️
Thank you for this video and review! I ended up purchasing the 150 set on Amazon (I've had poor experiences with ordering Prismacolors on Amazon, so cross your fingers for me). It was exactly $1/pencil for the 150 set there. It also looks like US Dick Blick online carries the new pencils open stock (at just under $1.50ea). I was between this set and expanding my Polychromos set, but I'm not a big fan of the greens in Polychromos for coloring books. I saw this line has a bright lime green which is my favorite light shade for leaves! Looking forward to checking out your other resources!
Great news and not a massive surprise to me that they'd eventually be releasing all the new ones open stock. I was lucky and grabbed one of the limited edition boxed sets of the new additional pencils from Cult Pens when they announced them and they're still one of my favourite of all my colouring pencils.

I'm so excited to hear about that, but I hate that I have to wait almost a year to find out for sure if they do expand them, or not ☹ I won't be buying the 100 or 150 set of Chromaflow pencils when they come to the U.S. though. I had the 72 set and gave them to my sister because I just didn't care for them.

I got these bad Boys for my Birthday on May 4th ...I treatewd myself. Howwever I managed to sqeeze them in to my 300 slot pencils .with my holbine 50 pastels and my polychoms hahahaha I like them alot.Been waiting for your review of the 150 ... well done and thank you for all the hours you spend on the color family chart Happy coloring

If you are desperate, you could try the Inktense jungle green pencil, although it is a different type of pencil and needs just a little water to release the colour.

I have the 24 set of Chromaflow and really don't use them as much as other sets, so I am unsure if I will be getting any additional sets. But, good to know they will be available open stock if I choose to grab them, and that they will be here soon in the US. AND, I would love to have additional colors in the drawing set! Thank you for your hard work 👏😁🧡 I followed an advice you gave: buy a small set of chromaflow to try them. For the first time this full-set-syndrome-person has done that… and I am very glad I did. These pencils are too thin/narrow for me. Yes, I do like the colours, but my hands ache terribly after a few light layers. The weird thing is that I also have the prisma’s and my hands don’t ache as fast as with the chromaflow. 🤔 Aren’t the Chromaflow and Prisma’s the same size?
No, the prismas are larger, they are also softer with a more buttery texture. The chromaflows are smooth and soft in comparison to others... but simply don't spread across paper like the prismas do, nothing does. Nobody has been able to duplicate it. I do enjoy my chromas for small or detailed images though, sometimes the thick pencils just wont fit, especially the softer leads that can't sharpen down that fine without breaking. All other thin core pencils are much harder than the chromas.
Those colouring pencils ✏️ might be definitely useful 😺👍. I always use the traditional twin markers 🖍️ on my own art works 🖋️🖊️✏️🖍️ 😺👍. Your video deserves a big colouring like 👍 from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
I’m in the US and have the 72 set. I can get some of them open stock from Blick, but it’s been spotty. Their open stock availability in the US really needs to improve, since I am not spending a boat load of money on anymore of these when I have my Prismacolors. Good news for those in the UK though. These pencils, I think, are great for people in the UK where Prismacolors are not easily available.
Hi Claire, So it sounds like the the 50 extra colored pencils will be available to buy as a set of 50, or will they be available to buy as individual colors? I would hate to have to buy a set of 50 just to replace a few pencils. If they are not sold individually like they older colors are, that is not very good news at all. I guess it is good news for the ones who already own the 100 set, but not for replacing the individual pencils.
A bit late to the party with watching this post. Thanks for your colour family chart - I’m useless at that so generally wing it. Oddly enough I had an email last month looking for customer feedback on the Drawing pencils. I made sure to fill it in saying it would be great if they could expand the range. Here’s hoping that happens in 2025. I live in hope.

Hi i just got this set from Cass Art in the uk as they have 25% discount just now for students, i think the discount is only on until tomorrow but just in case anyone wants to use it!
From the original 72 to the 150 colours there are MORE than 50 extra colours so what about the others? Will the rest of the colours also be available. What are the 50 colours they will release? Please could you ask them. Why can’t they release ALL the colours individually? I have Procolour and Coloursoft, and Artist , basically I have all the other pencils Derwent have made and as far as I can make out all of those with the possible exception of the Artist you can buy all of those individually. I heard they are going back to the 72 Artist and won’t be selling the extra 28 colours anymore. They are a hard pencil and I don’t use them often but I bought the extra 28 individually to make up my set a couple of years ago. Thank you so much for the colour chart. 🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️

😮😮😮😮 those metallics are like frosting- those are prob my absolute favorite 4 colors in that entire set 🤣🤣🤣🤣 in the terms of how creamy they are. They hit those out of the park( PRISMA eat your heart out) I agree on the cool grey defo missing the mark on those. Bummer there. But if you don’t use the metallics/incorporate them in your blends I can see how they wouldn’t be a fit in ones repertoire.
Hate to burst bubbles here, but that "answer" as it is phrased does not necessarily mean those 50 colors will be available as open stock. They may just be available as an upgrade kit, leaving people in the same position, basically. It may allow those who purchased the 100 set to get the full 150, but it does nothing for anyone wanting full open-stock choice of all 150 pencils. Guess we'll have to see exactly what they mean when they roll it out, but to ME, this does NOT suggest we will get open stock availability of 150 pencils.
I’m with Claire on that one I have both sets prismacolor is what I started with first for my adult colouring journey they are beautiful pencils.. I do recommend to have both sets
Prismas are thicker and softer, it's really a texture thing.. prismas "smoosh" together and spread out across paper under a blender pencil in a way no other pencils do. The chromas are thinner core, which is a plus if you do a lot of detailed work, and are softer than any other thin core pencil on the market. Do you need both? It depends on how hard/expensive either is to get in your area and how you like to color. I wouldn't hurt yourself to get any pencil. Prismas are one of the most popular and have a ton of tutorials, but they are also outrageously expensive in Europe and very difficult to get open stock.. and you go through a lot of them because of their softness. They are also very finicky about sharpening. Chromas are much easier to get and cheaper in Europe, and easier to sharpen (still can't abuse them though).. but that thin core isn't the greatest for wide open spaces. It's lovely for things like Bassford's Small Victories, or the Mythographic series that have a lot of tiny detail.
I have the 72 set and I want the additional 78 and put it in my cart and it says they don't ship to my country :( I'm in Australia! I have ordered from Cultpens before so not sure why :(
I knew Derwent would release open stock for these pencils, it was just a matter of time. I don't know why people started over thinking and complicating what is essentially a non issue. Derwent did very similar things with the inktense and Lightfast releases as well. Open stock and additional sets to make up the total if you've bought smaller sets before ALWAYS come out after they launch the nice, big, full set. And being a UK based company, obviously USA releases will be later. Again, this has happened before people! Either people have really short memories or they're really impatient 😂
They weren't planning to do it at first though... Said it themselves... They have been making questionable decisions, luckily for them, I love some of their products.
@@DieterPrivate Even if that's what their marketing team said/thought, I didn't believe it. Derwent knows that not having open stock would severly affect their sales. These are not cheap chinese pencils where no one cares that they don't have open stock. They're clearly targeting Prismacolor with the Chromaflow sets and that means having open stock. If anything I'm sure it's more of a mix up in communication between various teams. Or maybe someone (internally) said they're not going to have open stock immediately and the other person jumped to no open stock AT ALL conclusions. I mean these things happen, even in large companies.
@@sugarcandy243 then they might let distributing art stores know, as my local art store is now promoting them, the 150 set, stating that the 50 extra colours are limited edition and not available open stock. The 100 colours are available open stock in the store. So I do believe this was the original plan, but due to backlash they might change that...
I knew they would, they will just spread them out over time. They want people to buy the full set, plus it keeps people talking about them longer. They are not going to put them in a big set and have only fifty not open stock.
I bought the extra 28 pencils to make my 72 up to the 100 set from cult pens & including the $20 Australian dollars for shipping. They came in the silver Derwent tin with all the end caps of the pencils ruined, the paint through the tins with no protection apart from 2 packing beads on the bottom level. I paid the same amount for those 28 extra pencils if you include shipping as I did the 72 set. I am beyond gutted at all the misleading facts about these pencils since they were released in India & the USA and it feels like Derwent just want us to rebuy, rebuy, rebuy. I love Derwent & I enjoy using the chromoflow but they have stuffed up this release since day dot. I know of many who refuse to buy the 50 due to no open stock availability & I wish I had never bought the extra 28 with the condition I got them in. Fail Derwent. But thank you Claire❤

Hi Claire, So it sounds like the the 50 extra colored pencils will be available to buy as a set of 50, or will they be available to buy as individual colors? I would hate to have to buy a set of 50 just to replace a few pencils. If they are not sold individually like they older colors are, that is not very good news at all. I guess it is good news for the ones who already own the 100 set, but not for replacing the individual pencils.

A bit late to the party with watching this post. Thanks for your colour family chart - I’m useless at that so generally wing it. Oddly enough I had an email last month looking for customer feedback on the Drawing pencils. I made sure to fill it in saying it would be great if they could expand the range. Here’s hoping that happens in 2025. I live in hope.
Interesting . Good news. And i have the 72 set and ordered from Cult pens the 28 new colors.. With mailing it was over 70 euro. I hope that they will sell only the 50 set.. to fill 100 set. Well. Anyhow. Good news.

From the original 72 to the 150 colours there are MORE than 50 extra colours so what about the others? Will the rest of the colours also be available. What are the 50 colours they will release? Please could you ask them. Why can’t they release ALL the colours individually? I have Procolour and Coloursoft, and Artist , basically I have all the other pencils Derwent have made and as far as I can make out all of those with the possible exception of the Artist you can buy all of those individually. I heard they are going back to the 72 Artist and won’t be selling the extra 28 colours anymore. They are a hard pencil and I don’t use them often but I bought the extra 28 individually to make up my set a couple of years ago. Thank you so much for the colour chart. 🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️

😮😮😮😮 those metallics are like frosting- those are prob my absolute favorite 4 colors in that entire set 🤣🤣🤣🤣 in the terms of how creamy they are. They hit those out of the park( PRISMA eat your heart out)
I agree on the cool grey defo missing the mark on those. Bummer there. But if you don’t use the metallics/incorporate them in your blends I can see how they wouldn’t be a fit in ones repertoire.

Hate to burst bubbles here, but that "answer" as it is phrased does not necessarily mean those 50 colors will be available as open stock. They may just be available as an upgrade kit, leaving people in the same position, basically. It may allow those who purchased the 100 set to get the full 150, but it does nothing for anyone wanting full open-stock choice of all 150 pencils. Guess we'll have to see exactly what they mean when they roll it out, but to ME, this does NOT suggest we will get open stock availability of 150 pencils.

I’m with Claire on that one I have both sets prismacolor is what I started with first for my adult colouring journey they are beautiful pencils.. I do recommend to have both sets
Prismas are thicker and softer, it's really a texture thing.. prismas "smoosh" together and spread out across paper under a blender pencil in a way no other pencils do. The chromas are thinner core, which is a plus if you do a lot of detailed work, and are softer than any other thin core pencil on the market. Do you need both? It depends on how hard/expensive either is to get in your area and how you like to color. I wouldn't hurt yourself to get any pencil. Prismas are one of the most popular and have a ton of tutorials, but they are also outrageously expensive in Europe and very difficult to get open stock.. and you go through a lot of them because of their softness. They are also very finicky about sharpening. Chromas are much easier to get and cheaper in Europe, and easier to sharpen (still can't abuse them though).. but that thin core isn't the greatest for wide open spaces. It's lovely for things like Bassford's Small Victories, or the Mythographic series that have a lot of tiny detail.
I have the 72 set and I want the additional 78 and put it in my cart and it says they don't ship to my country :( I'm in Australia! I have ordered from Cultpens before so not sure why :(

I knew Derwent would release open stock for these pencils, it was just a matter of time. I don't know why people started over thinking and complicating what is essentially a non issue.
Derwent did very similar things with the inktense and Lightfast releases as well. Open stock and additional sets to make up the total if you've bought smaller sets before ALWAYS come out after they launch the nice, big, full set. And being a UK based company, obviously USA releases will be later. Again, this has happened before people!
Either people have really short memories or they're really impatient 😂
They weren't planning to do it at first though... Said it themselves... They have been making questionable decisions, luckily for them, I love some of their products.
@@DieterPrivate Even if that's what their marketing team said/thought, I didn't believe it. Derwent knows that not having open stock would severly affect their sales. These are not cheap chinese pencils where no one cares that they don't have open stock. They're clearly targeting Prismacolor with the Chromaflow sets and that means having open stock.
If anything I'm sure it's more of a mix up in communication between various teams. Or maybe someone (internally) said they're not going to have open stock immediately and the other person jumped to no open stock AT ALL conclusions. I mean these things happen, even in large companies.
@@sugarcandy243 then they might let distributing art stores know, as my local art store is now promoting them, the 150 set, stating that the 50 extra colours are limited edition and not available open stock. The 100 colours are available open stock in the store. So I do believe this was the original plan, but due to backlash they might change that...

What is the difference between the inktense and the chromaflow ?
Chromaflow are soft core coloured pencils. Inktense are like a permanent watercolour in a pencil, designed to be activated with water.
I knew they would, they will just spread them out over time. They want people to buy the full set, plus it keeps people talking about them longer. They are not going to put them in a big set and have only fifty not open stock.
I bought the extra 28 pencils to make my 72 up to the 100 set from cult pens & including the $20 Australian dollars for shipping. They came in the silver Derwent tin with all the end caps of the pencils ruined, the paint through the tins with no protection apart from 2 packing beads on the bottom level. I paid the same amount for those 28 extra pencils if you include shipping as I did the 72 set. I am beyond gutted at all the misleading facts about these pencils since they were released in India & the USA and it feels like Derwent just want us to rebuy, rebuy, rebuy. I love Derwent & I enjoy using the chromoflow but they have stuffed up this release since day dot. I know of many who refuse to buy the 50 due to no open stock availability & I wish I had never bought the extra 28 with the condition I got them in. Fail Derwent. But thank you Claire❤
