one neat thing about Albrect Durer pencils is the colors are identical to the Polychromos, same colors, same numbers. So you can do watercolor pencils for an underpainting, then finish up the details with Polychromos.

Lindsay, I just read about the rude, obnoxious post. Some people don't have morals or manners and they are petty/ ignorant/pathetic. We know where that comes from and when it started in the U.S.. Thank you so much, I appreciate it! I've never had so many accusations hurled at me in my life! The kicker is I was very gentle in my review and it was overly positive. Crazy.
I bit the bullet and got the full set of Caran D'ache Museum Aquarelle after reading and watching pretty much every single review/video about them. I regret absolutely NOTHING. They are amazing and so pigmented but they are definitely different from normal pencils and standard watercolor. I was 99% sure I'd love them a lot so that's why I bought them, but if you have even an ounce of doubt I strongly suggest you buy only 2-3 pencils to try them out. Watercolor pencils are definitely not everyone's cup of tea. I enjoy that I can have the control of pencils but the finish of watercolor, since I find watercolor intimidating and I'm mostly used to normal colored pencils. This video was so enjoyable, I love your long videos!
100% agreed, Museum Aquarelle are my true love. I also went for the full set right off the bat because I was sure I'd like them and I have no regrets at all. They're hands down my favorite art supply.

I love these videos where you have umpteen different tins and sets of the same (or very similar) medium. Eases my conscience when I look at my own stash.
I could watch you talk about art supplies every day and dream about making art, but I think it's time to move on to one of your tutorials and actually make some art! Love your energy. I agree with lots of the people below, ignore the Debbie Downers out there. You are engaging and authentic.
Derwent pencils are made about 30 miles from where I live in Cumbria. The original factory was at Keswick in the Lake District, but they moved to a new purpose built factory in West Cunbria. I love Inktense pencils ( and I agree about the trays / tins ) and l look out for sale bargains all the time.
I've been having fun with the Derwent Inktense and Graphitint. I like that company, they are willing to have 3-4 different products in one market, and have them sufficiently different as to justify them all existing. Their workmanship is very nice and the pencils smell good, too. I'd like to try their Drawing, Watercolor, Pastel, LIghtfast, if they make it then I'll happily try it. They're still working to innovate and debut new products in the pencil category.
I bought the basic Derwent Watercolor pencils with the blue bodies, silver slashing stripe and volored ends about 5 years ago. Ive created watercolor images on watercolor paper as well as mixes media on 65 & 100 lb papets and Im very happy with them. Thanks Lindsay for this series. It's very insightful.

I just got my first set of watercolour pencils from my friend, they are Derwent. I wanted to see what you thought of them so thanks for the comparisons. Now I will go and try them out.
1/31/23... Love ❤️ your tutorials!!! Learned so much... I also learn from viewer's comments about their experiences with watercolor pencils! I bought a few Derwent and Albrecht Durer from Blick. Beautiful colors! Now I think I should buy a 36 Albrecht Durer set... perfect colors for me as a beginner in watercolor. Lindsay, you're the best! Thanks 😊 for sharing ... ❤️ A California Gramma ♥️
I'm happy I could go back and check your reviews. I'm looking to get a nice set of watercolor pencils. Going with the Inktense. Thank you for all the reviews

Just FYI the Koh-I-Noor Mondeluz come in 72 colors, and they match the 72 regular colored pencils as well. I have both sets which I bought about 4-5 years ago and love both. Personally I find both the color payout and the way they disolve is much better than the arteza and the price is comparable. I also bought the 72 Arteza when they first came out and was quite disappointed with the quality in comparison. I have several Koh-I-Noor products and find all of them were very good quality for the price. (Colored pencils, watercolor pencils, soft pastels and the pastel pencils). Hope that helps!!! I also found the Lyra watercolor pencils are good as well and also have the same 72 colors as their polycolor colored pencils.
This video was NOT boring and you are awesome. I am learning a lot and getting inspired, plus making judicious choices on what to invest in. On the spectrum noir, they apparently discontinued their “colourtint” sets, sadly. Also, that WOAH when activating the supracolor made my heart happy 😁
I love your comparison videos. So often I'm tempted to try out a new line of media, just because it's new and cool. You try them for us, and your unflinching (but never mean) comparisons allow me to think twice about whether I need something. They are also very useful for someone who wants to purchase art supplies for friends and family. I've never been disappointed in anything you have recommended, and I've been watching you for years.
Always love your product reviews and comparisons as you always tell it like it is with your follower’s best interests at heart. Where would the art world be without you?! I hasten to think. Blessings....XO
Lots of very good information! When I see all the pencils you have, I would have a hard time deciding which ones to use!!! I really like these videos ,there is no way to know how well they work! Thank you for sharing!
I love everything made by Derwent, even if some products aren't great. It has something to do with the feeling they give you when you take them out of the box, exclusive quality if you ask me. For some reason no other brand gives me this vibe. It's a pleasure just to hold their products. Also Lyra's Rembrandt watercolor pencils surprised me a lot. I don't have a lot of experience with this kind of medium, but they have such lovely colors, intense and vibrant, not sure about the rest of products you show here, since most of them aren't available where I live, but happy to see you test them all.
I enjoyed the review. I have several of the mentioned products and it is good to see how they stack up. Thanks for the tip of using the woodless pencil on rubber stamps. 😀
I love your videos, Lindsey! I feel like we are *friends in my head*! I appreciate your talent, intelligent, and integrity to give us your true opinion. Will follow you forever and value what you have to say!💗
What fun! I got a set of Kahlour on Amazon.I like them a lot for the price. I dislike Arteza, and I finally splurged on a set of 36 Faber Castel AD, and I LOVE them! I am happy to use both sets together while I collect the AD pencils open stock in the future. Glad to hear your opinions on a wide range. I'm loving them for cleaning up edges on my watercolor paintings.
Ooooh I just get all ooey gooey inside when I see all those colors! Great job and thank you for the review. Always interesting to see how they all stack up. Martha Stewart, lol! I’m good with the ums and you knows!
I don't know if it's available in the US (should be though), but here in Europe there's a 72 set of the Koh-I-Noor Mondeluz (I've had one of those for almost 11 years now :D), for the last few years they've been selling them in a fabric roll pencil case as well as the standard tin or cardboard packaging (and the roll case is so pretty!) and here the open stock availability is decent, I can buy them open stock pretty much in every art store
I love the prismacolor water soluble pencils so far for the softness and vibrancy but I’m just getting into playing with watercolor pencils and only have goldfaber Aqua to compare. I just use mine for card making.
I have a small set of Generals/Kimberly watercolor pencils, so I could try out the media to see if I liked or not, actually it is a drawing kit. I figure they are student grade but that's okay, better than spending a small fortune (that I don't have) for a professional set, to only find out that I might not like this particular media. Ignore the fussy people and just be yourself with the multitude of subbies who love you just the way you are. Thanks Lindsay for being a bright spot in my day. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
The Caran d’ache Museum aquarelle really are beautiful, extremely vibrant colours and easier to use than Albrecht Durer, a little goes a long way. The range is not as big as Albrecht Durer, but you can do all sorts of mixes to get new shades. I like both; not cheap, you get what you paid for.
Hi Lindsay ✋It’s been a while since you did this video. But if anyone is wondering about the Spectrum Noir watercolor pencils Florals set (the only ones I have from that brand) here’s my take: I bought the Florals set at a cheap clearance price maybe a few years ago (I think SN still makes them.) I fiddled with them a bit and thought “meh.” I put them aside. Sometime later I saw them, sitting very sadly 😢 in my supply drawer and decided to get them out of the drawer and give them a good workout on some better paper. Wow 🤩! The beautiful and delicate light pinks and violets were some of the prettiest light pastel shades and fairly transparent watercolors; especially in wc pencils that I’ve seen. It’s hard to describe that certain quality they showed, but trust me, it was fabulous if you’re a fan of soft pastel colors.
I love how you can put intense , from their 24 pan set down, as an under-colour or the graphitint in the pans, then paint watercolour over the top and they will not disturb underneath...and the colour shows through if your watercolour wash is not too opague
Thanks for the great review! I want a woodless watercolor pencil, and after your review, I narrowed it down to the Scribble Sticks or the Mungyo crayons (neither of which were even on my list). Arteza products seem to change, with totally different versions sold without Arteza making this clear (or seemingly knowing themselves which product is shipping), otherwise I would go with your recommendation for those. You should look at General’s Kimberly watercolor pencils., and maybe try a set for review/affordable recommendation in future videos. They handle (IMO) so like Albrecht Dürer that someone who can’t afford Fabre Castell artist quality would get a very similar experience. Their set of 24 is currently $19 on Amazon (but I paid $16 a few months ago). Open stock is available on Blick ($1.44 currently). I liked them so much that I ordered all colors available, as open stock. I can find 36 colors, although 2 unique colors are called “yellow”. No set includes all colors, with some unique colors in small sets that have duplicates of the 24 set. Obviously they don’t have lightfast ratings, and color range is much smaller than the Albrecht Dürer, without color matching to Polychromos. I mostly use for adult coloring (I also got a set for each of my elementary school aged daughters). I still love my Albrecht Dürer, but as you frequently say they feel “precious “, and I’m more likely to play around with the Kimberly pencils. I have them swatched and could share a photo, but probably easy to find with google search or Blick or Amazon reviews.
I love Derwent products and that’s mainly what I have in pencils of all sorts, but yes, the cap colors are sort of random. It’s not just you or because they’re old.
The Arteza watercolor pencils are the ONE product I like from them. I have a watercolor pencil problem... I tend to collect them. I did give the Arteza ones away when I downsized my art space to things I knew I would use. However, I gave them to my granddaughter because I support her art habit, for the most part, financially. I gave her the Arteza watercolors too because she wanted them but I wouldn't never ever use them. I'm just glad I got them even cheaper on Amazon deals. If she only had one set I would get her almost anything other than Arteza but since she has another set of W&N that I gave her I let her take them. She can use them for messing around I guess.
Lindsay you are amazing! It's not only a success to be noted for your natural talent, skill, intellect, and experience- It's STAYING "up"! People are pulling down, don't give em a piece of you to pull on. Pretty sad when someone dedicates themselves to subscribe and Immediately give a thumbs down to Every video. Keep rockin it Lindsay. Sometimes I can't watch the videos, but I'll listen and your Um's are familiar and like hearing a good friend. 💓
Near the end of the video you demonstrate and speak of Lyra brand. 36:20. I didn't get the exact type or grade that product was. Were they crayons or pencils? Thank you for your time and demo.
I have the full set of the Spectrum Aqua that I bought a few years ago. Only drawback is that there are some near duplicates (how many red-violets does one need?). Have a few Reeves. I did buy the 24 set of wood-less at Hobby Lobby for half price. Good color payout, but, no pigment information. I have been drooling over the full set of Inktense, but, prices vary highly. You really have to shop around! Last week Amazon and Blick had the same price. Jerry's and Cheap Joe's the same, but $50 higher than Blick and Amazon. Plaza $73 higher than Blick\Amazon. The Joann's was $300 (!!!). Craft store coupons are not as great as they used to be, either.
Joanns is not a great place for art supplies, they inflate the MSRP and then say it's on sale so you cant use a coupon but even if you did it would be higher than blick.
@@thefrugalcrafter definitely! And, they have started raising prices on stamps and dies ridiculously high. They are charging $30 MORE (on a stamp or die set) than their competitors. Even with coupons, it's outrageous. Their online store was always a good deal with sales and coupons.
Hallo, I am a little late for the comment because your video is 2 years old. So I don't know if you looked for information about Caran d'ache. But the brand Supracolor could be defined as middle range quality. The cheaper version is Prismalo. They also are developed and made in Switzerland. This was for a simple explanation 🙂 Anyway, thanks for the video 👍
Great video and explainations. Be yourself always like you do. Ignore the nit pickers about anything. Being human and humble makes you the delightful instructor you are!
Thanks for the great comparo. I have an ancient 72 set of Derwent watercolour pencil. They definitely have the old logo Rexel Derwent logo like on yours but the image is a couple of fish and fly fishing rod and tackle. I think my husband may have bought them for me when we were first dating about 35 years ago - so might be even older than yours. By the state of the relative mintness of most of the pencils its was obvious I never loved them much. Well at least hubby and I are still together.
Thank you for your extensive review! I have a set of wcp's buried in my storage and can't remember for the life of me which ones they were, but watching your vid is wanting me to get new ones, even though I've used wc paints but haven't tried the pencils. 🤗💐🌷
I’m mostly interested in the watercolor & gouache videos but I watch every thing you put out because it feels like I’m listening to a friend chat. I have Derwent watercolor pencils and Polychromos colored pencils that I don’t use near enough. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Lindsay for your video. I'm a noob to art and TH-cam, you are one my biggest inspiration, I also to card making and scrapbooking. One of the my favorite watercolour pencils I like are Marco Renoir Watercolour pencils. If you ever have a chance you can take a look at Marco Renoir. Thank you
If you ever feel like doing it, I would love to see a look at any mediums you have that focus on hair and skin tones. I struggle with skin tones especially. Lovely comparison of pencils. Thank you for sharing this.
Sorry to be late to this, but I was wondering what is the flat water brush you are using in this demonstration? At my local Blicks all they have are the Pentel water brushes which are all rounds.
How many color pencils! They are amazing! I have derwent, castle art are about 100., than watercolor pencils are stabilo about 30 and other older pencils .But you have many many more 👏👏👏👏☺️☺️bye!!!
I started my collection with a 24 pcs set of Fantasia, then I got 3 of the primas, then I got the Spectrum noir the old version, then I got the Inktense, and those Inktense are my favorite ones I eve got the blocks, well I think I have plenty to play with
I came for the comments about that Derwent pencil going back into the tin upside down...just me? LOL. Also, you speak quickly and confidently about art products, I really don't notice any "ums." Much better than most TH-camrs (at least those who are speaking off the cuff on a topic); part of why I like your channel is that I DON'T feel like I'm waiting for you to get a thought out.
Thorough review Lindsay, tfs. I never noticed the ums, etc till you mentioned them. Doesn't bother me cause I like to hear the reviews and watch the art. ✌🖖
Very informative 🤩 ! I’m pretty new to the art world, so I didn’t know there was such a selection 😳 ! Since I lean more toward mixed media & stamping, I may have to track down those scribbles !... I really like the intensity & the smooth lay down... & it seems Artiza watercolor pencils have the intensity I like too ! Thanks for sharing ! 😃💚🐰🐥🌹

I think most people won't love all their products because they make a wide range for different preferences.
Love these comparisons. Gets me excited about the stuff I already own.
Tfs.
You can um all you want, I LOVE your channell!
Great video , you went above and beyond , Thank you for helping me decide xoxo
Thank you so much for sharing this. I know I am not the only one who values your opinion. Thank you again.
I enjoyed the review. I have several of the mentioned products and it is good to see how they stack up.
Thanks for the tip of using the woodless pencil on rubber stamps. 😀
Hurray! I so enjoy your art supply comparison videos; they are so relaxing! Thank you.
Thanks for sharing!
I am loving this series so much! Thank you for bringing it!
I honestly never noticed the ummms, and who cares you are human!!!!! Be you Lindsey, we like you just the way you are!
Very helpful video. TY
I have a whole bunch of watercolor pencils! They’re so much fun to use!
Ooooh I just get all ooey gooey inside when I see all those colors! Great job and thank you for the review. Always interesting to see how they all stack up. Martha Stewart, lol! I’m good with the ums and you knows!
I don't know if it's available in the US (should be though), but here in Europe there's a 72 set of the Koh-I-Noor Mondeluz (I've had one of those for almost 11 years now :D), for the last few years they've been selling them in a fabric roll pencil case as well as the standard tin or cardboard packaging (and the roll case is so pretty!)
and here the open stock availability is decent, I can buy them open stock pretty much in every art store
Jennifer at coloring bliss recommends those so I dont think you are missing out.
I have used kimberly's for years.
I always enjoy your reviews, and learn so much from them! Thanks So much Lindsay.🤗
Really appreciate your wisdom and advice 😅
Happy to help!
I love your video tutorials. Getting ready to make Christmas cards...and love your ideas! Is Sarah ever coming back to help you with videos?
Always look forward to all your videos
Excellent content!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
TQ
U always do a gd job with product introductions
Fair useful comments
I love the Derwent Graphitint pencils and the pans. So pretty for landscapes!
I love how you can put intense , from their 24 pan set down, as an under-colour or the graphitint in the pans, then paint watercolour over the top and they will not disturb underneath...and the colour shows through if your watercolour wash is not too opague
@@kookatsoonjan I’ll have to try that. I haven’t gotten to use them much yet, but have really enjoyed them. I think the colors are beautiful!
STABILIO! Carb Othello and Woody. Your welcome. HANDS DOWN FAVORITE. Especially for loose and abstract work.
I think you’re perfect!!!! 😃❤️
I absolutely love your reviews. Authoritative and instruction filled. Thanks so much.
Great video I really like the review videos I can actually see what looks good and your opinion for what's the best for the money tyfs.
I love !! I have many colors too😊✏✏✏💕
The Arteza watercolor pencils are the ONE product I like from them.
Thanks for another great review 🎉
My pleasure!
Hey, I love this series and idk if you already plan to do it but please do oil pastels as well.
I love the video, Im lucky to have a lot of these and you’re inspiring me to dig them out again and make some art . Thanks !
i have more than one set of pencils because i like the pigment
Thank you for your time and demo.
crayons, vry similar to Caran Dache Neocolor 2
This was for a simple explanation 🙂
Anyway, thanks for the video 👍
Great video and explainations. Be yourself always like you do. Ignore the nit pickers about anything. Being human and humble makes you the delightful instructor you are!
I love the Lyra Crayons and Neo’s. I think they are kinda close in quality.
Another GREAT video, Lindsay! Tfs your expertise with us. I have purchased many things that you've suggested and I love them all and trust you.
Thank you. These comparison videos are very useful.
Wow, good sharing 💕😍😍
If those scribble sticks are like Aquatones I might check them out. TFS❤
Your presentations are fine. Don’t think twice about an occasional um or you know. 🤗
I started my collection with a 24 pcs set of Fantasia, then I got 3 of the primas, then I got the Spectrum noir the old version, then I got the Inktense, and those Inktense are my favorite ones I eve got the blocks, well I think I have plenty to play with
i've kept only pencils that need a code to know which is which, in the tins the rest are in pencil cases
I like your channel because you seem like a NORMY. Not rehearsed and FAKE. Keep being you, boo.
Thorough review Lindsay, tfs. I never noticed the ums, etc till you mentioned them. Doesn't bother me cause I like to hear the reviews and watch the art. ✌🖖
Did you get rid of your Fantasia WC set?? Great review Lindsay… thank you! 🥰🙏🏾🤘🏾
I gave it to a friend who needed a watercolor pencil set.
