These are some good tips you made in this video, keep em coming. Good for anyone buying, or living in a home built from about 1965 to 1975 give or take a few years. One thing I would like to caution, based on my experience, the CO/ALR rated switches and receptacles can be problematic, because when your looping the wire around the terminals, that aluminum is already 50 years old or more, it's brittle, and I've had it snap. Short of rewiring the home with copper, I've had the most luck with Alumniconn connector, as long as the lugs are properly torqued, using a torque screwdriver. Another method that works, is Copalum crimping, which requires a technician certified by the manufacturer to rent the equipment, they are not available for purchase. A metal sleeve is placed over the copper and aluminum wires, and a power tool crimps the connection using around 10,000 psi, making a cold weld. Finally, heat shrink tubing is applied to the connection. The problem with alumiconn or Copalum crimping, is that in order to make a repair equivalent to rewiring the home with copper, is that every connection, including junction boxes, must be repaired, and it's dangerous and illegal, but not unusual, to have junctions hidden behind drywall or wood paneling inside walls, ceilings and floors in an old house that's been through many renovations & owners.

In Canada there is aluminum Romex that is certified by the CEC (NEC in Canada). It’s called NMD90-AL, NMD90 is the equivalent of NM-B in the United States. Southwire, a very reputable manufacturer of electrical wiring, makes aluminum NMD90 for sale in Canada only. I am not sure how common it is over copper NMD90, but being made by a reputable company AND being certified by a strict governing body, I would assume this modern type of aluminum wiring is safe. Of course the same can not be said for the stuff from the 70s
Aluminum wiring is still used for the main feeds coming into the home (very large wire). However, for wiring to receptacles (switches and outlets), it should no longer be used

yes, that is the best way to fix the problem. It is also the most expensive.
What abt a house built in 1941. Does it also have the same issue with the aluminum used in the 60s-70s?
probably not since aluminum wiring was not being used in 1941. It is not hard to figure out though.
Although a home from that era could have knob and tube, or old cloth braided romex, both of which gets very brittle at nearly 80 yrs of age, it could also have what's know as "tinned copper " because the rubber insulation from that era was usually corrosive to copper. The electrical service if original to the 1941 build, would be inadequate for safe usage, such as a 30 amp or 60 amp service, and 240 volts might not be available (look at the number of wires coming from the transformer to the meter, 3 wires connected indicates 120/240 volts, 2 wires, or 3 wires with one tied back for future use, would indicate a 120 volt service, typically 30 amps, though that would be very rare to find today.

Better not to use it new al wire will be cleaner when put under connectors rated for al wires and coated. Used older wire will be entering a unknown area. Good luck and do use copper.

I have had great sauces with alum icons. burning wires eliminated.
rewire is the best solution though.
My electrician that's running electricity to my shed says that many of our new homes are run with aluminum...at least going into the circuit panel. I'm pretty sure it's copper coming out of the box. Is this common...and is it safe?
Aluminum going from the street to your panel is not an issue. Make sure you have copper from the panel to the rest of your home
Aluminum wire from the street to the panel is normal. Aluminum wire from the outside panel to the inside panel is normal. Aluminum wire from the inside panel or outside panel to the stove or dryer is normal as long as it is stranded aluminum.
