@Dr. Alan Hales Sir, I read you repetitively accusing others of not knowing the Bible - without even bothering yourself to explain or quote anything to validate your position or why and how exactly they are wrong. Theology aside, just technically obvious to me: Chances are the ignorance is on your side. Please check out Rev 3:16,18 and Luke 6:37-41 for starters if you would, boldly praying for the Holy Spirit to unveil your eyes in that matter. In case you were right all along, you've got nothing to lose. Otherwise everything to gain.

@Dr. Alan Hales How do you feel about Joel Osteen? Or could you give me a list of names of prosperity teachers you agree with? I'm just merely curious, and curious as to what you deem as true WOF? I've only known the false WOF all my life, the cultish type, so I'm intrigued about a possibly true version.
My father in law died from a horribly painful cancer that killed him slowly over 2 years, the last month being the most gruesome. He begged to be put out of his misery. He has been a solid believer all his life, believed in WOF, and yet he died from his cancer. His wife isn't in the best health condition either. I deal with severe depression, suicidal thoughts and extreme anxiety, I prayed for it over 10 years and had people pray for me in the WOF groups, and nothing came from it. I fully believe God can do what God wants to do, and he can certainly heal, and I had strong expectation in those 10 years. Never doubted him once! Even the part of the bible mentioning the faith if a mustard seed was always something that stayed in my mind. But with the death of my father in law, eventually my depression got significantly worse as I desperately begged and pleaded. I have seen so so many fall from the faith after being in WOF, its heartbreaking
I'm not angry at God, just confused is all. God bless!

Dr. Alan Hales actually God can use our greatest weakness and turn it into our greatest strength... Moses stuttered and argued with God about his ability to speak, yet God used him to free the Israelites from captivity. Throughout scripture, God has chosen the unequipped to do his work, not the other way around. You can say I’m ignorant of the Bible - I’ve never professed to be a Bible scholar. However, my faith is much stronger today than it has ever been. I’ve spent more time with God in prayer and reading his word, than ever before. My relationship with him is all that matters. I don’t need a physical healing to know that God exist or to know how much he loves me. God is good and perfect.. I will put my trust in him for the rest of my life.

Dr. Alan Hales Oh I put my faith in action every day. I seek the Lord and ask to give me the strength to face each day. It is not easy living the life of a person with a physical disability... But Isa. 40:29-31 is the verse I live by “He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.”

If you compare New Testament teachings with the Word of Faith teachings, you can see the difference is like day and night. The New T is all about Jesus, the cross, the blood, walking in the Spirit, being victorious in times of tribulations (suffering because of our faith). The WOF is mostly about me,me,me. Little (if any) talk about on the cross, the Second Coming of Christ or even the EndTimes. It seems to me their eyes are fixed firmly on the things below.

Yes, you're right. I attended WoF and NAR churches for 30 years. It took sickness to get me out of that. God has helped me learn so much ever since. I don't even like the music I used to listen to like Hillsong. I detest the false teachers I used to listen to also and threw out their books. I'm now only interested in the bible and what it teaches. I listen to sound preachers and music now. I still have friends and family caught up in this nonsense and they get very defensive if I challenge them on any subject using scripture. They insist they must also have experience and not just the word of God. Although their focus is on experience. If you listen to them talk, everything is about "this man with the double anointing", "I just want more of God in my life", on it goes about how they want the 'experience' or 'encounter'. They use terms like 'activate', 'decree', 'declare', 'bind', 'rebuke', "double annointing", 'claim', "speak to", etc... all very focused on themselves and what they can 'get' out of God.

@@meplife7313 the only regret I have and what am asking Lord to forgive me for the number of people I lead into it and me I left but they're caught into it to an extent they're sowing alot of money waiting for blessings that are always promised to them that the more money you sow the more faith you get and the more window God opens to pour His blessings for you, some who have got some blessings they think if they leave the blessings might leave them as well hence they are under control manipulation system.

May God be praised for rescuing us from darkness. These two men were rescued. What a blessing to know these testimonies. It fills me with joy. Costi is a mature Christian who was humbled and know God is sovereign. He knows the Word and as he says before it was just a matter of making things up and then say 'God told me'. Ah how much I heard this. Thank God for rescuing us.

One of the prosperity preachers favorite verse in the Bible is 3John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
Prosper in the Greek is Euodoō (G2137) compound of G2095=Eu, meaning good or well.
And G3598 Hodos meaning “Way” or “road”
Prosper is not our word prosper and not our word health.
The word prosper is Euodoō , it’s constructed from Eu (well) and hodos (way).
Put the word together it’s Euodoō in the original Greek Bible.
Hodos is the common Greek word for “way”. It’s the same word Jesus used when he said, “I am the way” in John 14:6.
And Eu means “well”. We see that on our word Eulogy. A eulogy is when you stand at a funeral and say well logos (words), well words over someone who died.
Jesus said “I am the way (Hodos). He said there was a narrow Hodos (way) and a broad Hodos (way.
So what John was wishing for gaius was the well way which is Christ.
Also health is in the Greek “hugiano” meaning healthy words, uncorrupt words
Prosperity preachers use that to say God is wishing for us to prosper and have money and physical health. It has nothing to do with money and physical health.
If you like these kinds of teachings from the original Greek and Hebrew language? Go and listen to Jim Brown at grace and truth ministries if you haven’t listened to him already.

That how i become a christian, after i broke my leg very badly on many places a friend of mine who was a christian pray for me and God healed my leg during the prayer. The pain gone completely, right before this prayer i came out from the hospital with x-ray in my hand where the doctor showed me how bad i broke my leg. And after this miracle i believe in Jesus with all my hearth, mind , soul and strenth. After i repent and accept Jesus as my savior it"s been a while and me and my brother in Christ this who pray for my healing we went to pray for another friend who was in coma arrond 6 mounths and God healed him in the same time while we praying for him. This was second miracle i saw in front of me and this second miracle nailed my fate in Jesus. This is my testimony and story how i become a christian, i know that not everyone who become a christian have seen miracles like this but i want to encourage you that Jesus never stop to do miracles, as a personal miracle all people who repent and believe in Jesus God make personal miracle for them , they become born again and that is the personal miracle to all who repent and believe in Jesus. God bless you all and don't doubt that Jesus still make miracles and healings these days.
      Praise the Lord.

I've heard this often.."you should come under a covering".. for fellowship, spiritual growth, a family. I agree...I am covered by THE ONE TRUE GOD, TAUGHT BY HIS HOLY SPIRIT, growing in my faith by the free gift of grace from Jesus Christ. Imagine if we had fellowship like we read in The Book of Acts!!! That is the way Jesus Christ led. Many places of worship, sad but true, are spiritually dead ...only preaching The Gospel and living it out as a congregation, to the glory of God alone brings forth good spiritual fruit and will transform lives. No spiritual leader should be put on a pedestal either, only CHRIST gets ALL the glory and is worthy of ALL our praises. Sickens me to see how 'shephards' 'feed' the sheep of Jesus Christ. Its not what can I get from Jesus, its WHO I HAVE AND WHO I AM IN CHRIST. I believe many are waking up and coming out of these so called churches. Many desire to know Christ more and spend time in THE WORD and discover a DIFFERENT Jesus to the one who just gives, gives, gives and life is just a walk in the park, because we read THE WORD OF GOD FOR OURSELVES, and it tells us GIVE ALL YOU ARE TO CHRIST and IN THIS WORLD YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE, BUT DO NOT FEAR FOR I HAVE OVERCOME THIS WORLD.
PRAISE GOD ALMIGHTY FOR WAKING US UP!! HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER!!

Hi, I see that this comment is 2 years old but I thought I would reach out anyway and hope you see this message. I live somewhat near Manheim. I have a lot of experience with prosperity gospel teachings because I’ve studied it in depth over the years. I too was once in a prosperity-ish church as a new believer and the Lord opened my eyes to the truth of His word. Over the last 6 years I’ve had 7 major surgeries and many life threatening complications and continue to struggle with chronic issues to this day. It was because of my physical suffering that I sought out deeper biblical understanding and the Lord took the veil off my eyes to see the beauty of the truth gospel. Wise Biblical Christians like Costi Hinn, Joni Eareckson Tada and John MacArthur were influential in helping me. All that being said, I go to a small church in Kinzers pa that has sound theology and lovey people. It’s called gospel of grace community church. You and your husband are welcome!

Interesting conversation. One thing I think I have observed among channels that point out error vs truth in their opinion or interpretation, is that often people tend to lump people into labels and categories, i.e. word of faith, prosperity, progressive, reformed, calvinists, etc. I think the truth is that every group or movement has some error and some truth. There is truth to be found even in "cult" groups. The problem is when someone hears a buzz word associated with a particular group or theological system, they assume that the person that used the word automatically believes everything that the group in question believes.
Over the years I have heard a great deal of truth come from people like Copeland and those associated with that movement. I'm not familiar with Furtick, Osteen, Chandler and some of those folks but in hearing the videos of them being attacked, I have seen truth in them also. I have seen truth even from people like MacArthur, Baucham, and Peters. The point is that people make a lot of big assumptions based often on out of context data. The interesting thing to me is, in my opinion, none of these people or groups actually has an understanding of the grace of God, what it is and how it operates. So think wider and deeper and don't assume. That being said, it certainly seems that there is a great deal of craziness going on within the Christian community.

I believe what they did there was a good thing. You look at the Epistles that Paul and other apostles like Peter and John wrote and you can't just just be complacent about false teachings. They were so stern on false teachings which I feel is not the case with the present church. I look at a chapter like Galatians 1 and it just amazes me how stern Paul was about these things. This is so much made clear when he says that if anyone teaches another Gospel apart from that which Paul had preached they should be damned. And it gets more interesting with him saying that even if they themselves or an angel preaches another Gospel, they should also be damned. This just shows how serious they were about these things. And if we want to really build the church and have it succeed, we need to be as serious and stern about it as they were.

There are many teachers teaching the simple truth that God wishes the good of His people in general with a heart to prosper them in all things. This is NOT a contradiction to the reality of suffering in this world. It is a statement to the nature of God and His goodness, and the goal of this teaching is to expand the bandwidth of generosity coming from believers. The red flag comes when the priority for the Kingdom of God and the core values for the Kingdom of God do not match an emphasis on prosperity. We are then dealing with an imbalance that is toxic, similar to those who exalt suffering and reflexively oppose any emphasis of prosperity regardless of its plain emphasis ALL throughout the OT, choosing to ignorantly label any such emphasis as a contradiction to the saving gospel.

There is a lot of discussion on the internet regarding whether Christians are obligated to tithe. Although there is no command to tithe anywhere in the NT, tithing itself is not the problem. The evangelical teaching of tithing-to-be-blessed is the problem! Pastors and church leaders are greatly misleading their congregations regarding the benefits of tithing, particularly when they teach them that God promises to financially reward those who tithe to their local church. Those who teach this completely overlook the fact that most of God's most loyal servants in the Bible were poor in this life! For example, both John the Baptist and the apostle Paul were poor in this life. Similarly, Jesus praised the poor old woman who gave her only two coins to the temple treasury. She gave more than a tithe and yet was still poor. If God blesses the finances of those who tithe, why were these people poor? Where was their financial reward for good stewardship? Clearly there is a disconnect between the teachings of the Bible and the teachings of many evangelical churches. For those interested in this subject, Dr. Bompiani's new book "The Ninety-Sixth Thesis: Losing Faith in the Church, Finding Faith in Christ" is a must read. This book argues that the evangelical teaching of tithing-to-be-blessed is nothing more than a modern-day version of indulgences and thus just another scheme to raise money for the church. The author argues that this teaching not only reveals the problem with all of us, namely that we all struggle with selfishness, but it also holds the clue for understanding why we are here. We are selfish; God is unselfish and wants us to become less like ourselves and more like him and his son, the Christ. The author argues that is one of many clues that explains why we are here.

There are many that speak against it mainly because it's a self centered gospel and not Jesus centered and that is always a mark that it is a false doctrine. The challenge, it appears, is the inability to distinguish between the free will of man and the sovereignty of God. Its God's sovereign will that all men be saved (2 Peter 3:9) yet not all men are saved. They must exercise faith to be saved. Generally, it seems that those who heavily emphasize the sovereignty of God in healing, for example, completely ignore the many texts where Jesus credits the faith of the person who was healed as the reason for their healing. *YOUR* FAITH HAS MADE YOU WHOLE. - Luke 17:19, Matthew 9:22, Luke 7:50 Luke 18:42, etc.
God acting sovereignly in John 5 is not an argument against the involvement of faith in healing; it simply adds nuance to the overall picture of God's means of healing. Both are true; God acts sovereignly and he acts in response to faith. The follow-up question is: How many examples do we have of God acting sovereignly through Jesus (or, in general) to heal as opposed to faith being identified as the basis for healing?

I'm also wondering about that "sovereign" healing in John 5. At first, the man doesn't know who healed him (or was it that he couldn't point to Jesus to identify him, because he had left for a while).
But then he tells the leaders that it was Jesus. What isn't clear is if he actually said, "it was Jesus" - implying that there was either a conversation then, or at an earlier time, when Jesus told him His name.
Or did he just walk up to them and point over at Jesus? Seems more likely. But to conclude that he never met Jesus or saw him before or talked to him etc, just to say that this was a one way healing street? Seems a bit of a stretch.

This man failed to recognize the imbalance of his own culture, and now he fails to recognize the imbalance of "sovereignty" culture. He has exchanged one imbalance for another. Faith is both decisional and a matter of divine revelation. Faith is about action AND about patient expectation. This man has found some relief in a decisional mindset in "sovereignty," but he will find out eventually that this kind of cultural emphasis is rife with problems of its own. The #1 law in economics is : "Humans look for prosperity". Humans moved from where there was no water to where there is water, moved from where they couldn't plant to where they could plant, They perfected their houses to protected from cold or heat. Men always wanted to prosper and to be better. The guys doing this video got better equipment than a lot of people I know. If they will have a baby I bet they want their wives to go to a good hospital and with good doctors. This is all prosperity. We want better. I read that the gifts the Magi gave to Jesus would worth more than 2 million dollars in current money. Jesus father had a descent job. Abraham was rich, Job was rich, David became rich, Joseph became rich, Salomon was rich. The disciples had money and had a financial manager. The truth is that everybody wants to prosper. When I was younger I was always frustrated because people serving the enemy had good equipment, and money to do things. Why people serving the enemy can have the best and we need to serve the Lord with the worst? We have billions of souls to reach out and that cost money. Who will pay for it? The people that prosper. People who criticize people who prosper do for jealousy and not because of zeal for things of the Lord. The only one that don't want the church to prosper is the enemy. The banks are responsible for most evil in the world but I don't see these guys saying anything about banks.

Good points. Also, most of these poverty gospel guys believe in a strong military. Well, the reason we have a strong military is that we have a strong economy and can afford to fund our military machine. The same thing goes for home security. Poor people tend to live in more dangerous areas. When poor people move up financially they move away from the dangerous areas, not because they're materialistic and worldly but because they want to raise their family in a safer area. Money is amoral. It can be used for good or bad. The Bible doesn't teach against prosperity. It teaches against greed and covetousness. Also, do a Google search on John Piper's net worth, or John MacArthur's salary. Da ministry been berry berry good to dem.

@@sabrinabowden-hughes1730 The problem with reading the Bible is that it says something but it describes something else. Let me give you an example. One Bible verse about David says that God looks at the heart, if you turn the page it says that David was handsome. Why the Bible always mention anyone who was handsome or beautiful if what it matters is the heart? Why God made Salomon rich if it was not important. There is only one Bible verse in the Bible saying that love for money is the root of all evil but there are thousands of verses about money about people being blessed financially. It depends which Bible verses you pick you get to different conclusions. Money and possessions are the second most referenced topic in the Bible - money is mentioned more than 800 times - and the message is clear: Nowhere in Scripture is debt viewed in a positive way. There are over 100 Bible verses about prosperity and success. In Genesis 14:20 it appears the concept of paying taxes. Than you see one little Bible verse saying that love for money is the root of all evil and was not even said by Jesus. Jesus was impressed by the lady who gave all the money she had but they don't even mention her name or went to talk to her. Go to any church and you will see that the pastors are always more friends with the people that have money. I worked hard in a church for 12 years volunteering. I never got a visit by one of the pastors but they were always having lunch with the rich guys. I met one of the pastors a few years later and he couldn't even remember my name. Money don't buy happiness but for sure buys respect. Lets say that someone from Costi family is sick and the hospital bill is $300,000 and Benny calls and offers to pay the bill. What do you think Costi will say?

    • @Ericadbury
      @Ericadbury 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Unfortunately you're right in saying that many pastors favours the rich...but are these pastors born again ? They are CEOs and the church is simply a company for them. If prosperity should be the model Jesus wouldn't say that is easier for a camel to pass through the eye if a needle than it is for a rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Zaccheus first urge after meeting Jesus was to sort his financial life. It cannot be right to be born again and desire the material blessings over spiritual blessings. Yes, we enjoy good things but ultimately we are exhorted to trust for our needs and this is what is guaranteed (food and clothes).

@Christie Kirk That depends on how you define "prosperity gospel" and how you define "heresy". If you define heresy as a violation of a fundamental doctrine of the faith then it's not heresy, unless you define "prosperity gospel" in a way that denies the deity of Christ, the virgin birth, the Resurrection, justification by faith, the Trinity ... etc.

Jew and Greek Teaching any other gospel besides what we have been given is not good. Call it what you want. It’s just not what we are told to do. Unless you want to be accursed. That’s pretty clear in Galatians and pretty much all the New Testament. Sounds like he is addressing those who are adding and twisting the scripture and labeling them prosperity. Doesn’t really matter what you call it, a turd that’s polished is still a turd lol. It is heresy. They are teaching doctrine that is contrary to what the scripture says, contrary to what God commands. That’s heresy.

    • @JewandGreek
      @JewandGreek 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@DangSensei77 Teaching that God prospers people is not heresy. He prospered many people in the Bible. Heresy isn't "that's not what the bible teaches" because we all interpret the Scriptures differently on nonessential issues. That's a juvenile approach to theology and apologetics. The church has formed a consensus on what the essentials are - the deity of Christ, the Resurrection, justification by faith ... etc. There are no creeds that state the only acceptable view on financial prosperity, as it's not a salvific or soteriological issues. When Paul mentions "a different gospel" in Galatians he's talking about justification by faith as opposed to keeping the Law of Moses. He's not talking about whether or not it's God's will to prosper His children financially, or speaking in tongues, or how often we take communion. It's pretty silly to take what Paul said there and try to apply it anywhere and everywhere you disagree with somebody in order to brand them a heretic.

    • @DangSensei77
      @DangSensei77 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Jew and Greek Did I say prosperity was the reason for their heresy? Did I say that at all? No. They preach a different gospel period that’s what I said. I don’t care what it’s called, and any other gospel can be chalked up to the law. Twisting the scripture is what I said and adding to it. Which churches like Bethel and countless others excel at. Oh and when you are twisting the scripture to gain prosperity it is still a false gospel. When you teach that the power of the gospel is void without miracles you are teaching a false gospel. When you teach that Jesus gave up his deity, that’s a different gospel. When you don’t tell people they are sinners and they need to repent instead of telling them how much God loves them despite their lack of faith in Christ. When you tell people you hear from God and you have a word from them separate from the scriptures. That’s all false. And that’s not even close to everything these people teach. So is what I said wrong? Huh... no?

    • @JewandGreek
      @JewandGreek 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@DangSensei77 What you said is definitely wrong if you're saying that they preach a different gospel, because they teach justification by faith, the deity of Christ, and the resurrection by grace through faith in Christ alone. Where they are not mainstream is on non-essential doctrinal issues, and we don't consider a different opinion on non-essentials to be heresy. Nabeel Qureshi attended Bethel and researched them and found no hersey, and a mainstream presentation of the gospel. This was a man who had a master's degree in apologetics, so I think he knew what he was talking about.

Benny teaches that God will make you rich ( if you give your money to Benny ) and your life will be wonderful. You will need to look at it as a good investment because they preach that you will get a hundred fold return on your "seed" offering. Give a dollar and get a hundred in return. (I am not making this up!) What about loving and helping the poor, downtrodden, and unwanted in society the way Jesus did? Prosperity preachers use Jesus to make themselves rich by twisting God's message until it is unrecognizable. Then they use this perverted and EVIL message to prey on the hurting and weak in society and milk them out of what little they do have. I am so glad to hear Costi Hinn has turned his back on someday making 100 million a year as the heir to his Uncle Benny Hinn's throne. I just almost lost my faith after a year around a prosperity preacher and his church. it's very dangerous you know, talking about something you aren't really qualified to talk about. i used to do that when i was younger. i am not gonna brag because i had that talent of speaking in my genes since my paternal grandfather and my dad were besides being professionals (chemical engineer and pulmonologist respectively) were also professors and were confident in crowds. i too was confident in the crowd and i was part of this "youth for christ" group and if i wasn't mostly a speaker then i was a sharer and it got so addictive that people believe what you say and are amazed and tell you that "God gave you (me) that talent and we can feel him through you (me)".
i honestly hate hypocrites and one day i just thought that what i was doing was very hypocritical since i talked about God and thought to myself that I knew what he wanted or what was on his mind when i'm just a goddamn finite punk who just has the talent to talk but never had the theological training to undergo and understand the scriptures that Rabbis, Priests or Imams had to have a say. Even had a muslim classmate back in law school and i asked her to explain some concepts of Islam to me and i was so humbled when she responded "I am not qualified to talk to you and I don't want to give a wrong meaning to Islam and to Allah, go ask an Imam to teach you not me" and from then on I stopped in talking about God.
It is so addictive when you think you're helping because you think you're talking on behalf of God but deep down it's just your ego talking, it's all about the attention and hype and praise of your speaking skills and NOT about God per se and his worship. I'm just lucky i got out earlier when i was younger and have not reached the status of these televangelists who scam people for a living. I feel really guilty that I talked using God's name and have never done so since.
As lawyers, i hate it when a person untrained in the legal profession tries to woah me with bullshit moral arguments and opinions when some laws have already been given and applied as an answer to certain questions of facts. So to keep the same logic I wouldn't dare talk about God and all that stuff to others since i am obviously untrained in theology nor am i a scholar of religion. I'd rather listen to the ones trained in the field than confidently talk about it myself even if i have the talent for it.

The more you hate the prosperity gospel the more you despise scripture promises like in the house of the righteous there are wealth and treasures. If only John did not say, I wish that you prosper, and be in good health, even as your soul prospers. Is it money or the love of money that is the root of all evil? Love not the world or the things in the world, what things, like cars, jewels, name brand clothing, etc yet how many of you who have two jackets or two pairs of shoes would give your brother or your sister one pair? It is true, Jesus appears to have only healed that person by the pool. But also, I don't see in scripture where He refused to heal anyone who asked him to be healed. He is Jehovah Raffa. He wants to heal but just like salvation, He is not going to force himself on anyone. That is why in His hometown, He could only heal a few. In regards to Sovereignty, Psalm 115:15..The heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth was given to men. Also Genesis 1:26..We have authority. He is sovereign from the standpoint that He is the ultimate authority but He will not violate His own Word and take back the authority He himself gave us. And yes, in order to get healed, someone needs to have faith. Not necessarily the person who is sick. Obviously Lazarus didn't have Faith. You have to have some sort of level of belief to even go to Him and ask Him.
