- We are shopping for a motorhome to do some touring in. We are hoping to find a wanderlodge FC-35 so I took an epic road trip to go check some out.
Edit-they have found a buyer for the 79 in Texas,
we are still on the hunt, if you know of a wanderlodge for sale, hopefully closer to Michigan please contact me at andrewleach6@gmail.com
Was eyeballing the one in Ohio with pink and white interior. He said they turbo motors but the years would say otherwise. Ended up buying the one in Wisconsin, made it back Michigan no problem
So what did you end up buying? I think the Ohio rigs may have had engine upgrades to turbo.
Did I see the post on this rig in the FB group. Good find!!
I went to Texas and looked at that one but didn't buy it, I ended up buying one that is almost its twin that came from Georgia.
@@perpetualmotion1 I live in Ga. Which one did you buy?
@@aircooledantics2830 it was never listed for sale, a gentleman in Georgia saw my TH-cam video from the trip to Texas and got in touch with me.
We just bought a 79 wanderlodge here in north Alabama last month. It runs and drives really well. But it’s still a bus, so it takes a bit for steep grades. Don’t some interior Reno work and repainting the exterior.
I am going to Georgia to pick up a 79 fc-35 later this month for us to start the adventures with.
@@perpetualmotion1 congrats! Can’t wait to see it!
I travel around a bit myself, mostly to take my Jeep off road. I was looking into a camper, but realized I will spend less on hotels than I would on a camper van that can pull my Jeep. I'll let someone else change the sheets. 😂
If you calculate the cost of the kind of hotels my wife wants to stay in if it gets really expensive😬
@@perpetualmotion1 I can't believe a 40+ year old bus is going to rate higher. 😂
@@MyLilMule my wife is actually in the old stuff, she's pretty excited about getting one of these things. As long as we make it squeaky clean inside.
@@perpetualmotion1 Sounds like a keeper!
@@MyLilMule for sure!
Don't go in the basement!
I work at the national parts distribution warehouse for Bluebird here in Ohio. We have no parts for the motorhomes in stock. We do have Allison transmissions but may not be the same model that old pig has. Roof aircondiitioning units and parts would be out of stock also.AL B.
I pretty much assumed I would be on my own with one of these old machines.
I think the problem is that bluebird no longer owns wanderlodge. It was sold to another company that went bankrupt. I’ve been done by others that once you say “wanderlodge” the dealers can’t really help.
My dad has one of those
We are heading to Georgia to pick up the one we ended up buying in a week 😁
Love your narrative throughout. Definitely dingbats out there!! TX one looks in dire straits. "Good practice for driving Wanderlodge." :-)
😂 that's what I told my wife
@@perpetualmotion1 😆
You have a great lookin shop. Those Bluebirds are good units, good luck
Thanks 👍
I remember thinking those were quite the deal back in the day. Never really did much research on them though. Always assumed they were a diesel pusher. Pretty surprised they put that Cat up in the front.
I think you made the right choice passing on those unless you have an awful lot of time to devote to fixing it up. It always takes more time than you think, time that you could be out enjoying some travel.
It's so hard to tell from photos what the condition is really like. I've been on many wild goose chases where the thing was described as being in good condition but really was ready for the scrap yard.
Good luck with your search.
Thank you, I'm trying not to make a decision I regret later 😬
Free would be too much
🤣 your not wrong considering what it would cost to drag back to Michigan. He did find a buyer for it down there as a parts machine.
Looks stock on the roof
There are so many variations on these I'm having a hard time figuring out what is what.
Those are parts buses that guy is selling he’s been trying to off load them on FB Marketplace
The nicest one( I think it's a 1980?)is definitely worth reviving, and I'd say the 1977 is savable, unfortunately I think the 1982 is pretty rough.
@@perpetualmotion1 Here is one in Georgia that’s in good shape not sure what’s your budget but thought i’d send.
Thank you, since this video posted I've made a new friend in Georgia and I'm planning to go buy his in a couple of months 🙂
They are in a couple of wonder lodges for sale in Phoenix one of them look for the good
I'd be interested in seeing an ad if you care to share a link. Andy andrewleach6@gmail.com
I own a 1979 FC35 for sale
I'm really glad you got a hold of me, I had a blast visiting with you on the phone already.
Interesting...
I'm sure there were some previously undiscovered life forms growing in the Texas bus...
another flipper....
😂 I'm trying to avoid that outcome
