Just bought a 2018 Ford Eco Sport SE last week and I have to say that so far, so good! I'm loving it. I wasn't looking for an off road vehicle though. I just think it is sensible for me. I'm a 54 yo woman who wanted something that wasn't overpowering for me to climb into (I'm 5'3"), but did not want a car. I'm not one who drives around a bunch of friends however (for which this would be too small). I have 2 small grandchildren (from time to time) and a pug, so this is a perfect fit for us. We enjoy the heck out of it! It does great on the hwy and in the city, has some great safety features, and gets me from point A to B. That's all that is important to me. :-)
I bought a 2018 Ford Ecosport here in India and believe me it's a beast. It's the same looks except that Ford has retained the spare wheel mounted on its tail which for me gives an advantage of a more sportier look than its rivals. Mine's a 1.5 ltr Dragon series petrol engine.Its the best fun to drive car in the market.
This is my second favorite SUV/crossover after the Expedition. After seeing the EcoSport in person, it grew on me. If I was to get one, I would opt with the spare tire.

I got one ...(Titanium) took some getting used to (I drove an Escape) but I grew to enjoy it ! Good gas mileage ,easy to park & handles well ! A bit pricey !!!
Yes, but only for Europe. The version sold in America comes from India. The only pro is that America gets a 4WD version and cupholders in the back seat. But Europe gets colder colour options with the ST 😁
But its for a market for someone who wants a smaller SUV but larger than a Focus that has AWD capabilities. If fits the bill, I wish however that they had it in a 2.0 Ecoboost powered version. That would make it one of the must buy compacts in my book. 240-260HP is what it needs its only like 300 lbs lighter than my mustang and I have .3 more liters but I have over 160 more horsepower and something like 200 more torque.
I bought one over the trax ,I’am a chevy guy, but this has 2000 pnds trailering enough for my fishing boat and awd is nice on those slippery ramps, power is more than adequate with the 2.0, besides if I want speed I have a LS powered miata.
I question some of Fords decisions, no turbo for the 2.0, why didn’t they put a little more aggressive tires on it, or a little more performance an appearance packages as options. I think it looks just as good or better than other cars people compare it to.

Too much attention is being given to the touch screen Nav systems in new cars. It's useless tech for the average driver and only increases the overall cost of a new car.

For Americans ,used to cars like suburban, Tahoe , escalade, a small 4seater car like EcoSport may be a insult to their V8 egos. But there are countries where fuel is expensive and people don't have similar buying power, for them this is a funky cute car which does get the job done..
kevin alex this gets pretty terrible mpg though. It can’t even crack 28 highway mpg. The escape gets much better fuel economy with more powerful engines.
Had an Ecojunk... sport for a rental once, it was a horrible car all around! Cruising 55-60 mph for a few hundred miles we averaged 23-25 mpg. Absolutely horrible fuel economy.
Nathan Hunt my mom has a Ford Escape 2.5 (2014) and it’s a great little car around town, but sucks on the highway/interstate. We took it on a 400 mile road trip mostly on the interstate at an average of like 84 mph and we got 24.5 mpg. We did the same trip a few months earlier in my Merc S550 with a 5.5 V8 and got 25 mpg (hand calculated on both). These cars only get good gas mileage under 70 or so. Which if you’re traveling on the interstate is quite dangerous. I was just shocked my big 4700 pound V8 sedan got better mileage than the light four cylinder crossover.
Mine is a 2022 Titanium 4WD, bought it used with only 3K miles and cost me 24K USD. Exactly what I was looking for, a SUV with a lot of tech and a good sounding system. Power is ok for me, is very rare for me to get into a highway, comfortable, good amount of space (I’m short) and the interior is nice. And a good amount of road clearance.
I own a base model, 1.0 ecoboost non 4x4. and I absolutely love it. for only 120 hp its pretty peppy and still gets great mpg. I would have loved to get a base model 2.0 with 4x4 but its a significant price jump. and then adding the trim packages on top of that is just not the way to go in a car like this. if you can afford it, get the 2.0 base model over the 1.0. Simply based on the fact that it is AWD... If you cant make the 4k price jump, you will be so happy with your purchase of a base model 1.0 ecoboost non 4x4. the only difference platinum has over the SE or SEL is mood lights and leather. you get the same sync 3 and back up cam as the platinum. plus with ford discounts the entry lvl price for this goes from 18k to 16k and will only go down as long as they are available this year. GO GET ONE!!!! maybe even TWO!
I love mine. I have the titanium but in black. Got it with 18k miles for $16k. Easy to go in and out of traffic. Decent gas mileage. Drives smooth. Has about everything you need in a vehicle. Although it would of been nice if it came with the spare tire. Thinking about getting it added to the back. I’d recommend the vehicle if you’re thinking about getting it.

Just drove one , I like the simplicity of the dials and the trans ; having a mechanical hand brake is way cool . It’s got the tech you want and nothing you do not need . Great little package . The 2.0 is fine not as underpowered as some reviewers are saying but it’s no race car .

I noticed that in accelerating and passing/hill climbing, I tended to prefer operating manually so I could keep the responsiveness/rpm's high. Knowing how to do that, this vehicle did well. From what I understand, this motor is a mainstay in the Ford powertrain catalog and should be reliable and parts should be readily available.
@@crypticreality8484 Its is, a basic 2. liter no turbo.. Its a better block then the 2.3 with a full open deck. Most people bash for because of the head gasket issues, but that engine is made by mazda. This 2.0 origins comes from the costworth.
I test drove one of these. The SES trim has paddle shifters. The only complaint(s) it's a little underpowered for merging onto the highway and there's no manual transmission option. Otherwise, you get great tech stuff and lots of equipment. The heated steering wheel is great in New Hampshire. I was glad to see this video because I really didn't think it had any off roading capabilities. It's back on the short list. Thank you for doing this review.
If i were to buy an ECOSPORT that's the way i'd get it. NO SPARE TIRE-FIX-A FLAT? UH-UH. THE LICENSE PLATE would have to be RE-POSITIONED on the BUMPER but, I would get it and PAY EXTRA FOR IT. Besides i think the PRICE is REASONABLE FOR the SES.

I was sat in a new Ecosport and found it cramped sat in the drivers seat.. I kept banging by arm on the drivers door panel.. A lot smaller than my 2009 Nissan Note. Also the doors go high up making it feel darker inside.. If you want more room behind the wheel go for a Focus or Escape (Kuga in Europe) .
I think it's pretty cool. I wish we'd get a diesel version and a real off road package. I'm sure the typical one sells for close to 20K in the real world. I bought a 2018 Fusion Hybrid last year. It gets 43-48 MPG and paid 22K on the road. It stickered at 27K. The new Focus comes in a Hybrid . Maybe they'll do this as a Hybrid or all electric.
I just bought an '18 SES. All the SES models had AWD and sport suspension. I'm guessing it's a little stiffer than other models, but I haven't driven another model to compare them. First, it's fun to drive and handles well for what it is. Second, it has a standard torque converter, not a CVT, which is why it can tow 2000 lbs. Third, it's not fast, but the power is adequate. It could use more torque. It's a shame they didn't put the 1.5 3-cylinder Ecoboost in it, but that would make it more expensive, and quicker than the base Escape, and that's a no-no. The 2.0 Duratec has been around for years and it's proven reliable. This engine at 166 hp is the most powerful version that Ford produced. Good enough. As long as I can get gasoline, I'll keep it. It's just what I need for a winter car. It even has the winter package. That'll be nice.
Is it just me or is anyone else bothered by the fact the round space for a traditional ignition key on the steering column remains even though this one has push button start?
Jimmy may be an authentic off road but it's a horrible car on road. About ecosport, it's not a european design but a Brazilian design. Brazilian Ford come up with the ecosport in 2003 based on the old festa.
Looks just as good or if not better than the 1st and 2st generation Honda CRV without that annoying rear door spair tire on it. I also like the rear door is one piece and not a split door.
I have an SE 4wd, and the trans programming shit the bed on me not even 3k miles in. A re calibration was required and the engine was over-revved. Lucky it's non-interference.
I have a EcoSport 2018 And since I had the car I still have not been able to hear the alarm 👂🏻 all set the alarm on “I had close all the windows and doors And still I can’t hear the alarm 🚨 go on ..
err to go in off road put in in s and gear down to lowest you can go and keep it their...easy simple any vehicle with all wheel drive in lowest gear can go if you have enuff highth but then you have to be carful.
they kept on saying nissan kicks is better...well...fuel consumption is almost the same in reality between kicks and ecosport...plenty of kicks owner now complains about transmission problems..handling of ecosport is much better than kicks..when loaded, ecosport handles better...
In England, being English, AWD and 4WD are not the same or interchangeable as this so called “expert” suggests. That rear leg room isn’t too bad, he’s a big guy. The boot for a car of that size and segment doesn’t look that small either. It is definitely a consumer level review. This guy should have reviewed a Lincoln Navigator. Seems like a good little car. Surprising on poor surfaces.
Ecosport Its pronouced that way because the idea of s small SUV, came from Ford Brasil. So its latin (Spanish/Portuguese) Pronuntiation. See First Gen Ecosport, that was not available anywhere else. It was based on the Fiesta with borrowed parts from the Escape.
Man I just loved your review about this car. I have bought one here in Brazil about 8 months ago when it was launched and since there there was only happines. I'm not a fanboy about the brand or something like it and I already had a lot of cars in my life and this one is impressive. In Brazil the starting version is the SE 1.5 3 cylinder 4x2 front wheel drive with 5 gears manual transmission and mine is this one but with and automatic 6 speed gearbox and the car works amazingly. One thing here that is really a con is the rear suspension designed for the lunar brazilian roads, we do not have independent one except for the top version that costs 1/4 more of the price (here we have two versions called Titanium 4x2 2.0 and 1.5 and Storm 2.0 AWD). I got one for delivery of mail and I'm impressed it. Great gas and good handling on and off the road.

The four-wheel drive automatically turns itself on and off depending on the terrain the car's computer will tell it when to activate.

Nathan Hunt take the 1.0 ecoboost then. I averaged 55mpg on the highway in belgium with 75mph. And it feels even faster then the 2.0

It gets 43-48 MPG and paid 22K on the road. It stickered at 27K. The new Focus comes in a Hybrid . Maybe they'll do this as a Hybrid or all electric.

I just bought an '18 SES. All the SES models had AWD and sport suspension. I'm guessing it's a little stiffer than other models, but I haven't driven another model to compare them.
First, it's fun to drive and handles well for what it is. Second, it has a standard torque converter, not a CVT, which is why it can tow 2000 lbs.
Third, it's not fast, but the power is adequate. It could use more torque. It's a shame they didn't put the 1.5 3-cylinder Ecoboost in it, but that would make it more expensive, and quicker than the base Escape, and that's a no-no.
The 2.0 Duratec has been around for years and it's proven reliable. This engine at 166 hp is the most powerful version that Ford produced. Good enough.
As long as I can get gasoline, I'll keep it. It's just what I need for a winter car. It even has the winter package. That'll be nice.
wasn't the 1.5 Ecoboost engine a POS? If I recall correctly there is a TSB on it and the only fix is to replace the small block.

Brazilian Ford come up with the ecosport in 2003 based on the old festa.

The EcoSport is the greatest vehicle ever created by man! Why?! Because I bought one, 2.0l NA, and therefore it’s the greatest.
Looks just as good or if not better than the 1st and 2st generation Honda CRV without that annoying rear door spair tire on it. I also like the rear door is one piece and not a split door.
I have an SE 4wd, and the trans programming shit the bed on me not even 3k miles in. A re calibration was required and the engine was over-revved. Lucky it's non-interference.
I have a EcoSport 2018 And since I had the car I still have not been able to hear the alarm 👂🏻 all set the alarm on “I had close all the windows and doors And still I can’t hear the alarm 🚨 go on ..

I'm in the UK and it don't mean the same thing, 4wd you can switch to 2wd, all weel drive is locked in 4wd
err to go in off road put in in s and gear down to lowest you can go and keep it their...easy simple any vehicle with all wheel drive in lowest gear can go if you have enuff highth but then you have to be carful.
That is not low range gearing (ie a transfer case), which is what he was referring to.

they kept on saying nissan kicks is better...well...fuel consumption is almost the same in reality between kicks and ecosport...plenty of kicks owner now complains about transmission problems..handling of ecosport is much better than kicks..when loaded, ecosport handles better...

In England, being English, AWD and 4WD are not the same or interchangeable as this so called “expert” suggests. That rear leg room isn’t too bad, he’s a big guy. The boot for a car of that size and segment doesn’t look that small either. It is definitely a consumer level review. This guy should have reviewed a Lincoln Navigator. Seems like a good little car. Surprising on poor surfaces.
Ecosport Its pronouced that way because the idea of s small SUV, came from Ford Brasil. So its latin (Spanish/Portuguese) Pronuntiation. See First Gen Ecosport, that was not available anywhere else. It was based on the Fiesta with borrowed parts from the Escape.

I have bought one here in Brazil about 8 months ago when it was launched and since there there was only happines. I'm not a fanboy about the brand or something like it and I already had a lot of cars in my life and this one is impressive. In Brazil the starting version is the SE 1.5 3 cylinder 4x2 front wheel drive with 5 gears manual transmission and mine is this one but with and automatic 6 speed gearbox and the car works amazingly. One thing here that is really a con is the rear suspension designed for the lunar brazilian roads, we do not have independent one except for the top version that costs 1/4 more of the price (here we have two versions called Titanium 4x2 2.0 and 1.5 and Storm 2.0 AWD).
