  • In episode 4 of 3D Printing with the Monoprice Maker Select V2 we are going print our first benchmark print and install our first mod. The 3D benchy is one of the most important benchmark prints available. It’s a challenging model that will show even subtle issues the 3D printing process.

    The first mod we are installing is probably one of the most important for this type of printer. The Z-asix gantry brace is a support structure that will keep the top part of the gantry from moving around and vibrating as it does out of the box.
    All you need are a few printed pieces and some hardware you can find at home improvement store. Of you can buy a completed hardware kit on the ultimate3dprintingstore.com website. Get the hardware print the pieces and follow my step by step guide to installing it.

    I bought this printer and I am thrilled with it. Once the bed is adjusted and level this printer is awesome. I have printed all the pieces for the z brace and every piece came out superb. Just installed the z brace mod and the extra stability is amazing. My next project is the spool holder upgrade. Thanks for the awesome videos!!

    This is awesome. I just got the printer but didn't realize the difference of stability during printing. Not to mention the availability of the hardware needed. I might just go along with your option of getting them locally instead of online (since all 3 hardware stores you mentioned are within reasonable driving distance).

    Thanks for putting this together, the production quality is amazing and I really appreciate the time you put into this.
    I wanted to point out though that the hardware kit that is linked in the description is not the correct size for the z axis brace prints that are linked here. The brace prints call for 5/16" hardware, but the hardware kit that is linked here comes with 1/4" hardware. I just found this out the hard way. It could be made to work still, if it wasn't for the balls (the nuts don't stay in place due to size issue). Its my bad for not reading through the details on Thingiverse, but I wanted to mention it here.

    Great set of videos for this printer. Mine was delivered yesterday and today I made my first prints. Thanks for creating these and sharing your experience. I did a lot of research before buying this and It's great for the price. I'd like to experiment with flexible material. Do you plan on doing videos with different type filament?

    I'm hoping to get one of these printers by the summer so I'm really enjoying these vids. The mod by mod benchys is a great idea! I wonder if a part cooler like cobra or diii would be beneficial? Keep em coming!

    If I may make a suggestion, when recording the time laps for a print maybe either have a transition to where most of the print is cut out, or make an annotation that will skip the main body of the print.

    Hi. I just bought one of these printers. I found that it printed fairly well at the start. I printed a small calibration cube to check the calibration of the axis. I found that my cube was slightly taller than it should be. I would be interested to know if this happens to anyone else's printers when they first get them.
    Thanks

    Just Marathon-ed your series up til this episode. It makes me incredibly excited and eager to finally order my own MP select V2. I saw other youtubers review the Mini, and I was hoping the extra few dollars for a larger print bed would be worthwhile. I plan on creating a dedicated computer to build my designs and connect to the printer and I really like your earlier episodes showcasing the open source software (which is great for a broke mechanical engineering student like me).
    Do you think you may showcase this printer using other filaments like TPU or even felty? The fact that I could use other filaments like rubber was a major selling point for me, considering 2-3 years ago most industrial grade printers only could do this.
    What are your thoughts on the Maker select plus? Have you come across any info as if there has been anything other than the UI that adds to this model? Would you say the V2 has more community support/ guides for beginners? The V2 is not as compact but I do not mind, and I justify the lower price allows me to buy more filament I want. Just curious about what you think of MP's other models. Great videos! keep them going!

      Thank you for the response! I ended up getting the plus becuase of space issues. it has to share a space with my other tools and a rework station. It should be comming in tomorrow so I hope all goes well when i set it up. From what i can only assume as of now is the stability issues may be rectified due to the weight in the heatbed holding the frame in place once mounted. At least then I won't have to print that particular mod, but there are others for that model i would look into.

      Aqeel Mohamed this printer prints ninja flex TPU fantastically, just be sure you print and install the extruder block mod from thingiverse and print at 30 mm/sec for print and infill speeds, also extrude at around 245c for this printer.

    If the take the filament spool off the top of the printer and put it on the power supply that would also reduce movement in the z axis.

      Where are the videos? You haven't uploaded in 5 months. Also now you've had this 3D printer for a while would you still recommend it as a beginner 3D printer?

    have you installed a mosfet?

    • @neiro1124
      @neiro1124 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jw why/what the mofset is for

    • @gpettinga
      @gpettinga 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The power supply on the Monoprice maker select V2 and original is wrong for the bed heating element, and can cause fires or damage to the board inside the control unit. The mosfet upgrade alters how the power is supplied to the bed, and protects the system from fire and damage to connectors. It is a must have for this and many other printers.

      556todd it's an emergency stop, there is a switch/button you can print from thingiverse.

    Good idea in principle. But the Z-brace makes zero difference. I printed out several parts before and after. Zero difference. So if you're watching, don't waste your time.

    • @daddybeans6983
      @daddybeans6983 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol I own this printer and saying it makes zero difference is incorrect. Stability in the z-axis is essential as the sway will cause a slight movement in the y-axis.
