    I searched around a lot. Read a lot of reviews and settled on this. I needed this for some specific projects and didn't want to wait for printers that ship from China, or have to spend an entire weekend building a kit. I think this could be a great 3D Printer for beginners. What do you guys think?

      Thanks for watching. Glad you found it informative. There's a few facebook groups for this printers and all Wanhao i3 Duplicator rebrands. Microcenter has a rebrand now and I've seen a lot of people picking up open box deals from there. But I prefer new and just went with Amazon.

    Great video! The instructions, in my opinion, were not clear when it came to leveling. I actually gouged the print bed because I didn't understand the process. Your video made it very clear. Thanks for that!

      Awesome. I'm glad that it helped. I was fairly embarrassed and almost didn't include that I'd scratched mine. But I figured there was no way to hide it and also others might benefit from my mistake. Thanks for watching!

    we have a maker select plus at work and its been performing well for about a year. Today we received two Maker Select V2 from Monoprice that were refurbished. I haven't had a chance to run them yet, i just put them together this morning. The refurbished ones were $199.99. They came with a replacement print bed film as they are used and the ones in place had scratches. They also had a little wear on the painted parts but this is an industrial application, so paint isn't important. All the parts and documents that come with a new printer were included. the two boxes were not packed the same. One was packed in foam and the other in bubble wrap. One had a quick set up guide and the other did not. I used the manual, so the quick guide wasn't needed. The only real complaint is that the filament holder that is mounted on top isn't long enough for the 1KG spool we order FROM MONOPRICE. If they work well in the next couple weeks, I plan to order one for myself.

    Hey brother, thanks for the video, i have a few questions if you don’t mind. (First a statement though) I’m looking at the Monoprice maker printer, and I’ve never printed 3D before. So here are the questions. 1) How fine is the outcome of the product? 2) I heard that you can set your product in a tub of acetone (not floating, but so the fumes can reach it) and it’ll smooth it out) have you tried it? 3) For filaments, I wanted to make a funky ash tray, could it withstand it? I’d really appreciate the help!

    you do not have to move the bed and nozzle about when leveling go to menu then there should be a feature that says level and it will move the parts about the Xyz axis while you level the build plate just FYI

    That printer has a TON of addons you can add to it. Get a e3d hot end and go to thingy verse and get the frame braces will make a HUGE difference also a major upgrade should be delryn bushings dump the roller bearings. Make sure the hotend is a original e3d not a chinese knock off.

  • @BigFingerRo
    @BigFingerRo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey man! Great video! Just got mine today (I got it secondhand), but I can't seem to get it to print anything. The filament does come out if I push it from atop, albeit very slowly, and pressing the E axis dial doesn't do anything. Should I assume the nozzle is blocked? I assume the temp is ok, seeing as it does melt the filament. How could I know if the extruder is not working?

    • @BallisticTech
      @BallisticTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can push the filament through when the hotend is heated but using the extrude feature doesn't work that suggests there's something wrong with the extruder assembly.
      You'll want to make sure the extruder motor is properly connected. At the motor, at the daughter board on the back of the Z/X gantry and the cable that goes from the gantry down into the base of the printer (remove the bottom panel and check that the JST connector labled "E" is connected to the main board correctly.
      If everything is connected try to listen or feel whether the motor actually turns when you tell the printer to extrude. If it's connected correctly but the motor isn't moving that could be a bad motor (fairly easy to swap out) or the motor driver on the board is gone out (more complicated to replace the board but not that bad after you source one.
      If the motor is turning but the filament isn't being pushed out that suggests that the gear and or idler that pushes the filament into the hotend might have something wrong with it. The gear should turn when the motor shaft turns. If it doesn't then it could be that the set screw on the gear isn't tight enough. You'll also want to make sure the alignment of the gear and idler are all good.
      If the gear is turning but not pushing filament through make sure the gear isn't all gummed up with stripped filament. The gear is designed to bite into the filament slightly and push it through. It can strip away filament and get gummed up when the hotend is jammed.
      If all that looks good it's likely a jam. I usually start by using an accupuncture need to try an clear the jam with the hot end heated up fairly high. for pla that normally prints around 210 I'll heat it to 250. Retract the filament a bit manually and then push the needle into the nozzle. Move it up and down, twist it a bit. Careful the hotend is HOT.
      After that hold in the idler/tensioner bar and see if it's now easier to push the filament through. Ideally it should come through and not curl up at all. If it's coming through faster and looking good you can try to use the extrude feature and hopefully everything works.
      If it's curling when it comes out retract the filament a bit and try the needle again. If there was filament other than PLA with a hotter printing temp you may need to heat it up even hotter.
      If that doesn't work you can look up some other techniques for clearing jams like "cold pulls" "hot pulls" "atomic pulls" etc... Last resort is completely disasembling the hotend. There's a little white piece of bowden tube that is inside that can get burned and jammed up. If that's the case you can cut another piece of bowden to size and replace it.
      Other than that you might have to replace the whole hotend.
      Best of luck

    • @BallisticTech

      If you watch the full video I did very similar. Note that the bed surface is replaceable. So crashing the nozzle into it isn't great but not the end of the world if you scrape it up.

    • @BallisticTech
      @BallisticTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drivers I'm not sure about. But for software any version of Cura will work. There are videos showing how to set up a custom printer in Cura. Have to put in your build volume dimensions, nozzle diameter, filament diameter and some other things.
      As far as I know Monoprice stopped doing their custom version of cura with the profiles already set up. Alternatively people download and use the profiles set up by Wanhao. But I wasn't able to get good results with those.

      Fair enough. I decided to just get mine off eBay in the end. So yea, mine is a couple of weeks away. I tried to get a Cacoon Create which was being sold at Aldi for $499(AUD) Which is a rebrand Wanhao but not touch screen version but they all sold out within the first 5 minutes. Hopefully I get my head around the Anet and then I might look at a Lulzbot or Ultimaker :) I'll hit you up on twitter.

      Yeah I saw that Angus from Maker's Muse was talking about The Cacoon Create quite a bit. Interesting that Aldi was offering them. At first I assumed it was like a department store but it's more of a Grocery store right?
      He mentioned in one of his videos another store down there trying to do something similar.
      I would love an Ultimaker! I think my next printer might be the CR 10. They have some with massive print volumes and I see really good reviews.

      Might be an Australian Aldi thing, but they often have small quantity speciality items but yeah mostly they are a grocery store but then there will be a lawn edger or something on special one week. Its a bit weird, but now we're used to it.

      ain this particular instance I believe it was you! SUNDAY!! SUNDAY!!! SUNDAY!!!, Nobody wants to revisit that era of broadcast! If you could adjust that for future videos I would appreciate it.. The comprehensive approach you take to reviews is impressive and I would hate to taint this relationship so early over something that trivial.

      If you don't enjoy the way I present my content maybe there's someone else out there more your taste. Maybe that TH-camr would be more likely to completely change their format because of the misgivings of a single user that insults them in the comments. But I doubt it.

      Yes. Why should I be OK with you coming to my video and calling me a "Used Car Salesman?" Why do you think this is appropriate behavior?
      You could have said. "Hey I like the in-depth comprehensive nature of your videos. But I feel you're not coming across all that genuine..."
      But you didn't you chose to insult me.
