- Today I am Checking out the music video, "MaD Tv | Eva Cassidy - Somewhere Over The rainbow (reaction )"!
Eva Cassidy was an American singer and musician known for stunning performances of jazz, folk, and blues music. Tragically, she died from melanoma at the age of only 33 in 1996. She was virtually unknown outside her native Washington, D.C. at the time of her death, but that changed drastically within a few years as her recordings became known to some producers, and over time, several albums were released, charting in the top 10 in several countries! In total over 10 million copies have been sold.
Most notable is her solo album which released in 1996, the year she died. Live At The Blues Alley included Over The Rainbow which I will react to today. It is considered by many to be the finest recording ever of the song, originally performed by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz.

Mate, Eva Cassidy is my all-time favorite female music artist… It’s literally impossible to find a bad song in her entire catalog it is 100% top notch work, her covers, IMHO are often better than the original versions…Eva mastered all genres of Music from the Blues, Soul, Country, Pop & Gospel ( and is also a tremendous guitarist in her own rite, as she is the one playing acoustic guitar all alone on most of her tracks)…Do yourself a huge favor ( even if you don’t do a reaction video of it) and just watch her entire Blues Alley live concert (Eva passed away within 10 months of this performance), which the OTR video came from, it’s amazing and available on TH-cam..Some of my favs, At Last, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain, Danny Boy, Oh, Had I A Golden Thread, & Tall Trees In Georgia…Good Luck Jjh

She was discovered in UK, when this song was played on the BBC 5 years after her death.
It was immediately a tsunami of phone calls, people amazed and wanted to lnow more abiut her and the song being replayed.
Some albums were produced from her recordings and they topped the UK charts, in a way that only The Beatles had achieved before.
She didn’t know she had melanoma when this was recorded. It was recorded early January 1996, she discovered she had this in May of the same year, and she died in November. What a loss 😭
The song she sang in her last public appearance just a few weeks before her death? "What a wonderful world" 😱
She has become the new reference in covering Over the Rainbow, and the new generation sing it now in the same way (eg Angelina Jordan).

Eva Cassidy was so incredible what a voice and talent. It was such a tragedy and loss to the world when she died of cancer at only 33 years old in 1996, but her music will forever live on.
