Agreed - just prurient and unnecessary. This series is becoming increasingly boring to me. The actor's monotone voices, comic book event type writing - just all becomes silly. The hypnotic visuals are what kept me interested. But no more. Without these TH-camrs explaining details, I would have no idea of character motivation. Lastly, I did read the original books (Game of Thrones), in none of those books were there the explicit sex scenes shown on tv - none. Why do the writers do this - they just waste film time and add nothing to the plot. This is becoming an emotionless silly story.

I thought that was daemon’s sister in law in the dream. Alicent, ohh the irony that you a woman were overlooked. Maybe now you will empathy for Rhaenyra. This episode was a bit slow for my taste, I assumed the action would ramp up from last week
*stresses his brother into an early grave, groomed teenage Rhaenyra, led Viserys to believe he had sex with her the night he abandoned her in the red light district, started a war in the stepstones without Viserys consent, murdered his completely innocent wife, marries his niece, instigated the decapitation of a 4 yr old in its bed, strangles Rhaenyra when she reasonably confronts him about her dead nephew, leaves while Queen Rhaenyra is still speaking to him about doing things without her approval, breaks into Harrenhall and disrespect that sweet old man Ser Simon, conceited, coerced a man to inflict war crimes upon the Brackens so bad theyd rather be eaten by a dragon than raise a single finger to fight for Queen Rhaenyra now, Has mommy issues...yes, that guy is a real jerk.

One thing that stood out to me was the dynamic of house Frey. Not only is Sabitha present for the meeting with Jacaerys, she is also an equal participant in the negotiations for the alliance. She’s taken seriously as someone in a position of power rather than being belittled or shoved aside simply because she’s a woman. It’s a definite contrast to how most of the other female characters are treated.
interesting what that says of the old ways and how they river lands organically may receive rhaenyra without daemons hand representing the targaryens as he has thus far

Visenya was on another league . She knew battle she could fight and was fearless. Rhanerya is way too diplomatic. Had this been visenya as the heir to the throne no one would dare have contested against her. She was a wise snd fearless warrior
If Visenya was in Rhaenyra's place, she would've immediately had every available dragon take out Vhagar (the main threat/weapon of the Greens), lay siege to King's Landing with all of her military might, and behead those who usurped her throne.
@@kyla.s5838I believe they couldn't go against Vagar with one dragon, Visenya had the second biggest dragon so obviously it would have been easier to secure the capital. Given Aemond is still in inexperienced rider if Rhaenys wasn't alone perhaps they would have managed to at least kill Aemond. So Daemon was kinda right when he suggested Rhaenys to join against him. If only he wasn't daydreaming in Harrenhal that day I know he would have happily joined, Rhaenys alone didn't make it easy for Aemond.
To be fair when the conflicted just started they should have abandoned the delusion that it could be solved diplomatically and go for Aemond. And by that I mean send someone more competent that a rat catcher. It's not the most honorable move but still a better solution.
Visenya was never know for being "wise", she was a warrior, she used violence to solve all conflicts, also she never saw her son Maegor as the psychopath he was, or didn't care, she was more sinister and hard with everyone.
Rhaenrya made a lot of mistakes and is not perfect by any mean, but most people don't understand her position. Her claim is always in thin ice, she is trying to make the right moves while being suffocated by a lot of her vassals that are supposed to support her. Her best weapon is an unpredictable rogue who do whatever the fuck he wants. If Jace had silver hair and purple eyes she could have ride to battle with no problems. She was a queen of "glass" who mayor problem was that all her supporters where more flawed than the greens.
Visenya also never fought against dragons… if you remember she was the one with a dragon.
But Rhaenerya can't be blamed alone. She haven't been to war ever, it is actually her father's fault who never taught her how to be a warrior. That's why even Rhaenerya is frustrated too that she didn't have any chance to learn all this.
This episode may have been slow however it was necessary. This is a complicated storyline and with all the changes I really like that they give us a full hour of plotting and focus on the aftermath after a major plot point. We need to see how this huge loss causes each side to make or decide on their next moves. These episodes are important.

I liked how slow it was. I liked seeing the regular people and their struggle. I liked daemond being forced to wait. How fast do people think travel is across the kingdoms. The pace suits the mode of travel.
When Aegon softly and weakly spoke "Mommy" after Alicent had already left the room, man I felt so bad for the guy because at his core, Aegon is still just a kid who really only wants love and appreciation from his family, especially his mother. Things his father, King Visery's I, evidently never gave him when he was still alive. Such a sad and tragic character Aegon is turning out to be.
He's as screwed up as everyone else, but he has a heart. He suffered over the death of his son, and he showed affection to his dragon. I hope he lives, but now he knows what kind of man his brother is - one who will burn him alive.
Aemond is better king
ALL of Alicent's children with Viscerys were merely means to claim the power of the crown and the title to the Iron Throne...and THAT is how ALL of them felt and their dysfunction is largely the result of this disaffection.

You can see that Cole expected ppl to cheer when he paraded Meleys' head but instead there were whispers of displeasure. No Targaryen can disrespect a dragon like that. It's obviously Cole's stupid plan to show strength but instead he has mortolized the dragons in the eyes of the small folk. Now the fear aspect they had of dragons is slowly deteriorating. "I thought the dragons were gods" "It's just meat" Those two statements show the shift in mindset
And hence Cole wrote the Doom of the dragons
And when people cease to believe the invulnerability of their Gods, their hubris grows as some among them will claim themselves to have God-like authority. And with that imagined power they will do terrible things. Cue in Daenerys torching ALL of Kings Landing or her father's plan to do the same with Wild fyre.
Annnnnd soon will come the storming of the dragon pit which literally ended all the dragons for 300 years until GoT
I mean, there is Meraxes who very famously got killed in Dorne, and dragons die of old age with their skulls being displayed in the Red Keep, so the mortality of dragons in principle is well-known. What is new to them is the profanization of dragons.
If Aegon had not been crippled and could present himself as a dragon killer the mysticism around dragons likely would not have received such a hit (also he could have given his image a much-needed boost). But instead they get to see some dirty knights dragging a dragon head on a cart.
Sunfyre aint dead, people in show are just assuming it’s taken out. Criston himself said he left a garrison at rooks rest to guard the kings dragon.

The site I use to watch streaming content, drops almost every show a few days earlier. Idk how they do it, but if pyrates can do it, i'm sure that content creators or "reviewers" have their own way of viewing content earlier than everyone else. 🤔

Did any of you read the books? Alys rivers is real in the books very much so. This is a theory made up by people who clearly did not read the books. This is why I don't think people who didn't read the books should make review breakdown videos or come up with any theories. She's alive at the end of the dance and she speaks to others when that happens and even has a son and takes over Herenhall So throw that theory in the garbage! Why do people come up with all these retarded bogus theories I have no clue. She's also said to be like 400 years old. So That's the end of this theory.

Christon used a weird phrase to describe Sunfyre. He told Alicent "Sunfyre was long in the dying" which makes it seem like he did die. But based on the book, Sunfyre should still be alive just badly injured.
Sunfyre is not dead. But he will never fully recover. In the book, it is stated that he's a "dying dragon"
Daemon thing is getting bored now and Rhaenyra's too..She always looks confused and lost in counsil room...She can't make quick decisions when Greens are on spot and aggresive here Blacks are still in dilemma whether to war or not.

This is definitely one of the best episodes of the show so far. The "slow episode" so many people complain here is exactly how it should be. War historically has never been about the on field antics, but the allegiances, the clever steps taken or the lack of it leading to victories/loses. The show writers aren't taking it slow, but setting things properly.
I, for one have read the Game of Thrones books and therefore I absolutely love every segment happening In Harrenhal. GoT never truly explored or showed the audience why no one really wants to have Harrenhal and even if garrisoned at, was unable to hold it for long. The Curse of Harrenhal is real, this show is finally exploring that and I love it. Emma D'arcy is killing it with her expressions and little mannerisms.

Disappointing episode, the message (men are power hungry, warlike and underestimate women, who are peaceful and altruistic) is becoming really heavy / unsubtle in almost each dialogue, and the Daemon arc is getting repetitive, boring and pointless
It’s trueish but the problem is that she isn’t like that in the books. Bear in mind it’s not even been that long since Viserys died so she still be enraged about Aemond did her son. And in the books she is. Super vicious, enraged and vindictive. In the show she is so indecisive and relaxed.
Agreed. These are poor choices made by the creative team. This is the least compelling war and lacks momentum. Got didn’t even have crazy fights but was so much more well paced.

Alicent and Otta know Aemond cannot be controlled or manipulated. Aegon, although headstrong could be manipulated or threatened into doing their bid. But Aemond, he is dangerous.
I think all of Daemons dreams are a way for the showrunners to keep him alive.
Through these dreams and visions his desire for the throne will be eliminated, and he will want to live out a more quiet life away from the politics. However, due to his loyalty to Rhaenerya, he will decide to attempt to take out (or seriously wound) her biggest obstacle. That would be Aemond, or more specifically, Vahgar.
The books left it ambiguous as to whether or not he died in the battle. That brought up the question of why he would decide to just leave and live a quiet life. These visions can be an answer to that.
I guess we will just have to wait and see if anything significant happens with these dreams.

@@raiamsultana2336 Alicent is a horrible mother and only ruled with the help of Otto and Larys, blood and war is what she has plunged the realm into by scheming with them, its absolutely insane to think that she would be somehow better because... what? the war is still on Alicent or no Alicent, she can't broker a peace without getting the king to step down which nobody will allow her too do regent or not. Aemond is a sensible regent for the Greens at this time, and his brutality is standard fare for westeros warfare that Alicent would be forced to to anyway if she wanted to keep her and her familys heads off of spikes.
She doesn't want to rule, she just doesn't want Aemond to rule bc she knows how he is and while opposing to him ruling she's the only other person she can logically propose as she has already ruled during Viserys bad years, bc she can't just say "don't let him rule, put somebody else, don't care who" and that's it, it needs to be logical and also someone who can do something while there, and she's the only one who fits even if she doesn't even like it.
She is power hungry, even when Viserys was ok and not sick. She would disobey him, contradict him, get in his business in front of his servants and guards.She would interrupted important royal events. She has a lot of pride following some else orders and she becomes resentful to her children that holds a position higher of authority than her. She’s doesn’t even have any royal blood in her to feel so entitled.

Thanks for another excellent synopsis. I haven't read the book, so I don't know what's ahead. But it occurred to me that Rhaenyra knows that her first husband Laenor is not dead. If she could locate him, perhaps he would return to fly Seasmoke on her behalf. She's desperate for dragons, and Laenor's return would open all kind of interesting possibilities. This was an intriguing episode, but last week was so thrilling. I watched that dragon fight many times. And I'm sorry to see Daemon endlessly hallucinating - if that's what it is. We've never seen him weak before. Meanwhile, Aemond is a coiled snake preparing to strike, and that character (and actor) are so compelling, I could watch him stare at the Iron Throne for a whole episode!
I thought there was an assumption that Laenor died off screen as his dragon had started acting strange recently (Rhaenyra said so in either last episode or the episode before).

A lot of amazing lines in this episode, but my favorite was when daemon was asked about if he dies? “Then I’ll be dead, and it would be someone else’s problem” i bursted out laughing the way he said it . I may of misquoted, but it’s along those lines.

Not every episode can have dragons fighting each other. Nobody has that level of budget .
And i bet nobody can watch 1 hr of dragons fighting without any dialogues it becomes boring .
The dialogues in this episode was sharp and good but nobody seems to have the attention span to listen these days

This episode was "slow", especially when compared to last weeks.
But that doesn't mean this wasn't a good episode because it was. But let's get away from this online trend of gaslighting people by saying the opposite of the obvious when attempting to make a point.
This episode furthered the story, delved deeper into the characters, well written, well acted and put the chess pieces in position that will definitely payoff in a major in future episodes.
But the pace was slow and the only quibble I have really is that the Direction was a bit uninspired. ✌🏾✌🏾
It’s the first episode I didn't really enjoy. When in it ended I was like “wait! That's it?”. Perhaps for those who didn't read the book it had at least something interesting like the fate of Aegon a d Rhaenyra deciding to look for dragonseeds but for me it was too slow and boring.

Great episode! A nice follow up to all that went down in episode 4. I love seeing the repercussions of very drastic actions and how those involved will handle it. And from what I can surmise is that what was set up in this episode will play A big part in what's to come in the next full on battle.

What you called "sexism" that Rhaenyra and Alicent is facing, are just facts. Rhaenyra doesn't have war experience compared to the men who are trained in war tacticts at a young age. And Alicent has no birth right to become King/Queen-consort compared to Aemond, who has "the birth right" to it.
It could be sexist and facts. In addition, both Alicent and Rhanerya were taught the histories by Viserys. I am sure that war tactics came up at least a few times.
In addition, I don't think these men and their tactics are good ones. I think they are going too fast, too aggressive, and it is costing too many lives. Not to mention costing too many resources.

The tactics of the council was not else than straight on point. Rhaenyra should've enlished her dragons on the houses that didn't support her at first. The greens did it before her, and now she lost her fastest and important dragon of dragon stone. The council was right, she had the advantage of number, in war even in our world, when you have the advantage of number you should be on the offensive not defensive. Some men are not warlike (e.g look at the small folk), and there are women with war experience (look at the wife's of Aegon the Conqueror). About Alys, in episode 3, the first time she enters the show, the scene, the room, when Daemond claims Harrenhal, a servant looks at her, from the corner of his eye. Just re-watched, I think she is real...

"Long in the dying" but not dead yet. And Rhaenyra is likely just responding to the eye witnesses that thought Sunfyre died. I would bet Sunfyre is still alive.
Eddard Stark was never named regent but rather "protector of the realm" regents if im not mistaken can only be offered to individuals in direct line of the king, ( queen mother, a prince, a king consort etc ) Thats like saying cole had alicent been murdered or something weird like that would be regent in the case that aegon cant rule. No that would go to next in line in the succession.

I've also wondered if Alys is just on Daemon's head, because you're right I've yet to see anyone interact with her, but him. THE only reason I doubt this is because she's mentioned in the book, which is supposed to be a historical narrative written in-universe, while the show is "what actually happens", or so I've heard. Therefore, how did the authors know of her existence? Interesting, regardless.
Daemon part is the worst so far his arc is boring as f. But at least Jace and Baela was the best thing in this episode love it

Lackluster episode coming off episode 4. Its the Dance of the Dragons but nobody knows what to do. The Sea Snake even talking about sailing west in his ship after his wife got slayed. A show based on war but no real warriors. A bunch of novices looking for recognition. Aemond even torched his own brother for a better seat. Daemon almost 50yrs old resorted to under hand barbaric tactics for allegiances.
Facts, it’s so true. The more you change the more ramifications it has to the story. Making Aemond betray Aegon means they now have to commit to that arc of the story
We already know Daemon and Aemond aren't above using underhanded tactics, Daemon ordered Blood and Cheese after all. But they are both absolutely warriors, they're the most war like in the entire show.
Why is no one mentioning the hilarious "duck versus goose" reference!? Right as Daemon wakes up from his Freudian reverie about having intercourse with his own mother, his hosts tell him "If the duck is not to your liking, there's some goose!" And the guy next to him says "I prefer goose myself!". This is a reference to the conversation, in season 1, between Rhaenyra and her intended, when they discuss sexual preferences. "Some people prefer duck to goose, others like goose better", etc. I thought that was an amazing and hilarious tid bit! The guy unknowingly told Daemon "If you're having doubts about your sexuality, there are other options" - right after he had a vision of bedding his mother. 😂
But in his dream Daemon knew it's was his mother? If he dreamed about it must be that subconsciously it was there. So far he’s been with his cousin and a niece but mother is a bit too much even for a Targaryen.
In the book, Do Daemon fantasizes about Aemma? I just wonder.

Personally, I think the show needs major changes from the book to be a successful show. S2 so far has been a pretty accurate translation aside from Aemon things and the dumbing down of Blood & Cheese. And it just isn't super cinematic.
- I loved the scene where that Bracken chap was riding away from Daemon, and Caraxes lowers its head in the background! Beautifully done.
- They're really upping the inc^st in HotD what with Daemon rolling around with his mother 🤢 At least he has the decency to look disturbed when he realises who he'd been dreaming of.
- It really boiled my p^ss that the men at Rhaenyra's council meeting were talking about the 'gentler sex' not being up to it, *right after Rhaenys had fought and died in battle* Typical 🙄
