To be fair, Daeron laid the seeds for Dorne to come into the fold and join the other six kingdoms. His brother would make peace with the Dornish upon Daeron’s death and seal a marriage pact between the Targaryens & Martells.

Westeros was definitely lucky that Aegon III just wanted to stay in his room and play Nintendo, cause his reign could have gotten real messy with the amount of trauma he’s packing.
@CrusaderChris Yeah, I understand he wasn't exactly an angel in the end, but... when he died, I wasn't exactly happy or relieved so much as I was saddened. He was desperate, traumatic desperate. It’s truly a shame what happened to him,and despite all the trauma he went through he tried his best to a good king for his people but yet history won’t remember aegon the 3 favorably.
Really, I wouldn't say he tried to be a good king (not saying he was necessarily a bad one), he just wanted to be alone. And I can respect that. Didn't want all that responsibility, just wanted to live in peace. His Niece-Wife and Bastard Half-Brother getting hit with Poison and later Murder/Suicide pretty much left him alone
No,Aegon III never tried to being a good King. He wasn’t a really good king and raised sh*tty tyrants himself. One warmonger and one sycophant. He didn’t rule. Tyland Lannister did. He is said to have locked himself away depressed. A good King doesn’t hide behind their regent for every move. Aegon III didnt even assisted at councils
They probably won’t get to all of Aegon III’s reign in HotD, but it would be cool to see the reunion with him and Viserys. Have a genuinely heartwarming moment in this universe.

I genuinely believe that Aegon III was by far one of the most competent Kings that the Seven Kingdoms ever could have needed after such a destructive civil war. He was careful with the economy as he wasn’t wasteful with tourneys or feasts, but he used that money to help the economy grow after so much was lost in the war. He wasn’t war hungry compared to others Kings, instead he was always trying to avoid conflicts whenever possible, unless it affected his family directly. He was as a prideful or devious so there wasn’t a disruptive court, unless you count individuals like Unwin Peake during his early years. Finally he create a stable succession line with his sons and brother and his children who by all accounts were odd characters, but they created great legacies for their house, except for Aegon the fourth who destroyed all that work in a matter of years. Really Aegon the Third may be remembered as a dour king, but one who did his duty in the greatest fits of depression.
12:21 This King having been depressed and traumatised showed more compassion and humanity than some of the others before and after him… and yet his legacy pales and he is remembered as the melancholic Dragonbane hmmm 🤔
The chapters about the regency of the third Aegon were pretty interesting. I was actually very curious about him and his brother Viserys. They were the last of their house at that point, both were very young and yet they managed to somehow keep the realm. I'm very excited to see more of them in Fire and Blood 2
@Mcherri Actually yeah that's right, I didn't put them in the same category for some reason, I was just mentally placing Aegon and Viserys as "Rhaenyra's sons" in my head but you're right, they're Daemon's as well. Daemon's children were the only Targaryens to survive the Dance. Granted, Aemond's own bastard son may yet live, which would be cool. Maybe the Hightowers have him in Oldtown somewhere, or the Arbor, and have a secret Targaryen lineage that's just hiding out there, away from the drama. But, that's all speculation of course, and assuming Alys Rivers decides to head down there.
@@thalmoragent9344 yeah probably however all that child will be is a bastard only daemons and rhaenyera’s children are known as royals. I just find it fascinating that out of the dance all the Hightower/targaryen bloodlines pretty much die my guess is as a punishment and yet rhaenyera’s and daemons are the Targaryens that survive however rhaeynera had to suffer so much losing all her first borns expect for aegon the 3rd as he is technically a firstborn from daemon and rhaenyera’s bloodline. I believe rhaenyera actually cursed aegon the 2nd and his bloodline to die so none of the Hightowers/targaryens survived. Aegon the 2nd also made a Marty out of rhaenyera as well most people don’t realise that since even after aegon killed her many still fought for her and her cause which succeeded in getting her bloodline to the throne. The only thing I didn’t like was Cregan leaving all the greens alive when he wanted to kill the traitors which he really should’ve done as it would send a message about traitors and protected aegon the 3rd from anymore backstabbing that might happen. Not to mention if only visenya and maegor could see what became of their house they would be absolutely disgusted since they built it and saved it from annihilation in the pass.
@Mcherri I heavily disagree. Visenya and Maegor did far more harm than good. Maegor darn near ended their Dynasty, and notice how Jaehaerys used the Doctrine of Exceptionalism instead of brute force to make peace? As for the Greens, I don't think Cregan had any right to continue the war. Leaving Aegon's supporters alive is totally fine, unless you're saying you think that a war with Casterly Rock, Storm's End, and especially Oldtown would be a good idea. Especially Oldtown, the most well managed city in Westeros, above King's Landing in just about every way other than not being the Capital. All that extra death and destruction, after the main war was already over? Cregan Stark speaks of treason yet Rhaenyra committed treason 3 times over, and even Lyonel Strong didn't agree with what Harwin and Rhaenyra did. As for Aegon making a Martyr of Rhaenyra, well, same would've happened had she killed Aegon. The Civil War had multiple great houses allying with either Side, and both claimants had their own reasons for claiming the Throne as theirs. Not to mention, if the Targaryen dying out somehow is "justice" for the war, doesn't that mean that all of House Strong and its bastards dying out has a meaning too? I always see people say that the Greens died out due to them being "traitors" yet the southern half of the Realm argues that Rhaenyra and her Black Council were the traitors, and her first 3 bastard sons were all killed off as well, so how come that doesn't count for anything? Overall, the Dance shouldn't have happened, and Viserys holds much of the fault, something Team Black or Green fans should be able to acknowledge. That, and Cregan's wish for more war was also foolish, cause no way he'd be able to handle the South Western half of Westeros, not to mention that even if he did succeed, he'd certainly ran into a lot more trouble, and more people would've died for nothing but Cregan's bloodlust and old alliance he made with Jaecerys, who's long dead at this point
Okay, but if ‘You’re sitting in my chair.’ Isn’t the last spoken line of at least an episode if not the series, I’ll feel like there’s been a missed opportunity.
Aegon was deeply traumatized but you can tell he was a person who could not stand to see other people suffer, I feel so sad for him, Jahaera, Vis, and Palehair. They were all just children watching their families fall in an ultimately pointless war of succession.
These videos have been soooo helpful for connecting dots of who's who. I love how these videos focus on everyone surrounding the main subjects too. Great stuff!!
I think House of the Dragon will go up to Cregan Stark cleaning house. It would be great television to see some of the worst at the time be locked up and some of them executed. Cregan’s legacy really finalizing Rhaenyra’s revenge arc.
I think Aegon was ashamed of what Daemon did to Jaehaera’s mother, uncles and brothers. Probably why he never named any of his children after them and nor did Viserys.
That’s probably not the case since his daughter Daena named her own son after Daemon because “he was both the wonder and terror of his age”… Secondly, Aegon also didn’t name any of his kids Rhaenyra either even though he adored his mother. Lastly, Jaehaera’s fam literally caused the death of his entire family, with granny Alicent even motivating her to kill him during her delirious episodes, so that “shame” would have been mutual.
Aegon Targaryen was tramatically affected by seeing his mother (Queen Rhaneyra) burned alive and eaten by a dragon. This is why he was soooo gloomy and depressed his entire life. He did have some JOY when his younger brother was returned to him. Guilt is a very powerful emotion that some carry and can never be parted of. Aegon the Dragonbane lived a very sad and very tragic life. I am glad he was able to have children, and their lives (hopefully) were not over shadowed by the family's past. I am an adult doll collector and crafter. I have created my versions of many of the characters from "House of the Dragon". I have created one , a female, who is the last descendant of House Corlys Valyeron and House Aegon Targaryen. I call my female- Rhanyes Valyeron (after the Queen who never was). I have enjoyed creating my little Targaryen-Valyeron world. I truly enjoyed your video on the life of Aegon Targaryen. What is saddest to me is that even today (2024) we still see the in fighting played out on families who have money and those who do not have money (for example at funerals, as everyone is fighting over who gets what). And still life goes on. What a very sad world. People put "things" over what is really important- FAMILY.
"You are sitting on my chair" This kid after being traumatised by war and by corrupt regents still did his duty as a king, and walked the walk. Yet still is remember as a lackluster ruler. History made him dirty.

I always found it weird that neither him nor Viserys named any of their children after their mother father or brothers or sisters i found thst kind of sad.

I feel like Aegon III isn’t remembered fondly but dude did a decent job. Knowing what we do about mental health today he was obviously crippled with debilitating depression and still ruled well.
Aegon could've become a rampaging monster after what he went through, endlessly punishing all for his trauma yet he over and over displayed deep compassion. Sad how such a kind soul was destroyed in a pointless war for an ugly chair
Survivors Guilt mixed with some extreme PTSD, combined with a dragon phobia.. I think *depression* would be the default setting when you mixed all of that, esp a child.
Yo, he did pretty well. Got his brother back, his older sisters had his back. He stood up for his remaining family members. Took his rule back from the regency. Didn't take revenge for his trauma. He survived. After all the horrors of the war, he survived. Son of Rhaenyra.
Soo, he didn’t start any wars, he didn’t leave a succession crisis, and he disarmed the nuclear weapons that had killed hundreds of thousands.. I’m pretty sure he’s the best Targaryen King ever
I have yet to decide if Cregan demanding Alysanne hand in marriage for sparing Corlys as in "ask whatever you want." "I want you" scenario is very romantic or incredibly fucked up.

There was no correct side in the Dance. Rheneara had three bastards and then married his uncle Daemon with whom she had more including Aegon III. Nobody won the war. Rheneara took the throne from Aemond while Aegon II fled the kingdom. Then dragon seeds betrayed her and she lost support of the people and thus she stepped down after six months just to get caught by Aegon II who burnt her alive with Sunfire. Later he was poisoned too. Starks gave word to Rheneara for their loyalty and that's why they came down.

I think it would have been better if Aegon and Jaehaera would have remained married and was the mother of Aegon III's sons. Although the Targaryen dynasty afterwards is not related to Aegon III but to Viserys II
Same--it could explain Baelor's obsession with the Seven if his mother was, like her grandmother, super devout. I always thought it would be supreme irony that Otto Hightower's line only existed by marrying Daemon and Rhaenyra's son, and ultimately only continues in the form of a bastard line. Like you said, the main Targaryen conitnues through Viserys. I've always thought Aegon and Jaehaera was some wasted potential by George. Could've saved that third Velaryon wife for one of Viserys' grandsons--hell, or have Daenaera marry Viserys when they were both older so he's not married off at 12.
The great and bad thing about GRRM stories (esp involving Westeros) is how much detail and layers of intrigue and domino effect each action (or inaction) by a character has on the entire saga.
Can't help but wonder how things would have change had the Targaryens still the dragons, Daeron I could have really conquered Dorne?, how would have view them Baelor I?, with his being a religious zealot, what if Daemon Blackfyre or Aegor Rivers had a dragon and how would have this interfere with the rebellion?, how much would have change during the RR (at least on the Targs's part) if they still had dragons?
I really want too know who hatched the last sickly dragon who was going too bond with her im curious i kinda thinking either aegon the unworthy or naerys the sickly princess was the hatch dragon bc aegon didnt have any eggs in King's landing and none of aegon's kids were stated as having a dragon.

True @@badyoutuber1986
The chapters about the regency of the third Aegon were pretty interesting. I was actually very curious about him and his brother Viserys. They were the last of their house at that point, both were very young and yet they managed to somehow keep the realm. I'm very excited to see more of them in Fire and Blood 2
Well, Daemon's daughters lived as well. But yeah, they're the only Targaryens who survived
@@thalmoragent9344yeah all of daemons children survived that says a lot.
@Mcherri
Actually yeah that's right, I didn't put them in the same category for some reason, I was just mentally placing Aegon and Viserys as "Rhaenyra's sons" in my head but you're right, they're Daemon's as well.
@Mcherri
I heavily disagree.
3:20 Knowing Storm's End and Casterly Rock's impenetrable reputation, and the shear scale of Oldtown. I'd say half his men is an understatement.
The episode will likely be called "The Hour of the Wolf"
I think Aegon was ashamed of what Daemon did to Jaehaera’s mother, uncles and brothers. Probably why he never named any of his children after them and nor did Viserys.
Dawna seems to be a derivative of Daemon. Also why would Aegon care about the uncle that murdured his big brother?
*Daena
That’s probably not the case since his daughter Daena named her own son after Daemon because “he was both the wonder and terror of his age”…
Secondly, Aegon also didn’t name any of his kids Rhaenyra either even though he adored his mother.
Lastly, Jaehaera’s fam literally caused the death of his entire family, with granny Alicent even motivating her to kill him during her delirious episodes, so that “shame” would have been mutual.

These are hands down my favorite ASOIAF videos on TH-cam
People put "things" over what is really important- FAMILY.

the starks support of rhaenyra is what proves to me the blacks were the correct side in the dance they are the main characters after all
There was no correct side in the Dance.
