It's not that there's any question whether Jace has Targaryen blood... His mother is Rhaenyra! It's more that he has an insecurity about being a bastard, but being a dragon rider gave him a validity that allowed him to remain in denial over that. Now that it's evident bastards can ride dragons, he has to confront that fact about himself and all the insecurities that come with it. Plus we where given the earlier scene between him and Baela, to establish that he thinks of Laenor as his father even though he knows it's really Harwyn. So there is the emotional impact of losing Laenor twice now.
What matters most is that now people can dispute his claim … the law is not that you have to be a Targaryen … the law is that your parents have to be WEDDED for you to be legitimate … This is not about modern society … that was purely logical … Rhaenyra is doing what her father did … SHE IS NOT THINKING AHEAD …
@grichkatayou7558 How..We all know who Birthed him...Bastered or not..She's the rightful heir..meaning her son is as well..His father regardless of who he is..is Not the heir..So who his father is, is not important.
He cannot be the heir if he's a bastard. Kind of cool though, just like his mom couldn't be the heir (sort of, the king can do what he wants and he decreed it but it's not the way things work really) now he will have his own struggles. We'll I guess it doesn't matter anyways since... well if you read the books you know.

Maybe him smelling like her eggs saved him a little. Like when hunters rub deer urine on themselves or your friend dog dmells them on you even though youve never met the dog
I agree that they add much needed levity. I loved how the two bros echoed each other 😅 especially the " you'll never live it down" bit. Then Silverwing giving him a sky tour down memory lane on their jaunt to KL. She was chirping at him the whole in this gregarious manner and seemed to enjoy Ulf's joyride until Nana V showed up lol
I got pure goosebumbs when Hugh claimed Vermithor. That was so epic. On the other Hand when Ulf stepped into the dragonnest Silverwing nudged him and was just like "Bro... could you NOT thank youuuuuu". It was just so cute. Vermithor chose Hugh because he was strong and couragous, but we saw from the beginning that Ulf was doubting himself, but has the heart in the right place. So Silverwing was more like a gentle mother, being forgiving and patient "Now hush deerie you are waking the eggs, i take you on a ride later K? ", and Vermithor was like "Now thats my boy, lets rip everyone to shreds"!
It was just like the end of the Season 1. She had that same look, only this time she was actually looking at her son's killer and thinking - "Yeh.....Come on! Oh we got something for you now!"
When Vermithor hovers over the prospective dragons seeds, it actually looks like he eyes Hugh, and the does a little purr before setting everyone to the left of him on fire. I think he was just trying to get rid of everyone else and when he rampages, he’s just trying to find Hugh. That’s why when he finds Hugh, he doesn’t kill the other woman, because Hugh told him not to. I do think Valyrian blood is a requirement of claiming a dragon but I don’t think it’s the most important thing, I think the rider has to match the dragons spirit as well!
I thought it was way cool and super heroic when Hugh called Vermithor's attention away from that woman who was hiding behind the rock with him just as Vermithor was about to cook her up medium rare and swallow her down. Clearly Vermithor was holding out for an honorable rider with balls and valor, a pretty rare combination in this medieval world.
I have a feeling the disfigured Dragonseed who tried to claim Vermithor first was a victim of the child fighting pits. :( I felt really bad for him thinking of this
I just want to say you have the absolute best breakdowns of this show. And as someone who never read the books, I am very appreciative of you not spoiling anything. Others do not hesitate to spoil what is coming. Probably what is the most fun about this show is not knowing what’s coming next. So thanks for the great breakdowns and thanks for not spoiling anything.
Rhaenyra: "Take my heirs to Pentos, protect them, keep them safe, be the mother to them that I cannot be." Rhaena: *uses the kids as emotional dumpsters the whole time they're in the Vale then abandons them to the staff to go chase after a dragon* What could go wrong?
@@Caynine17420Jace is definitely honorable but Lucerys was definitely the nicest and most caring. I like the saying, Jace is Rhaenyra pride and Lucerys is her love.
@@Caynine17420 Well, Jace is of full noble and royal blood. He’s half Targaryen and half Strong. Harwin Strong was a high born noble heir to Harrenhall. Rhaenerya could have married him if she wanted to since her father the King allowed her to choose a husband from the noble houses of Westeros. Jace became a bastard because he was born outside of marriage. The mongrels were low born and have no definite degree of origin. They were still peasants and small folks in their time
Hugh’s mother is Saera Targaryen, jaehaerys 9th child and estranged daughter who left the royal family and worked in pleasure houses, that’s also why vermithor took a liking to Hugh because Hugh is a direct descendants of its last rider Jaehaerys, the courageousness also helps too I guess 😂
Most likely inherited his looks as well. I can imagine that Jaehaerys looked similar in his prime to Hugh and that Hugh's looks partially contributed to Vermithor's fondness towards him.
Vermithor: Hugh is Large, Brave, and Fierce. Seasmoke: Loves to fly above the sea, and have fought in the stepstones. Adam is a Velaryon by blood. Silverwing: Carefree like Alf
What I liked about this scene was it showed dragons as being brutal and rather quick to kill, but also exercising a form of intelligent judgment. We saw dozens turned to ash or chomped to bits (or both) and yet Sea smoke and Vermithor and Silverwing PICK their riders.
I want to know what exactly Rhaenyra was going to do if Addam said, nah, you're the usurper and I'm with King Aegon... If she tried to attack Addam, the dragons would have defended their riders and since Seasmoke RAN him down to claim HIM, I think Seasmoke would definitely have attacked him from Rhaenyra.
Hugh's mother was no "half-sister" she was "Full Sister", based in the information we get in the episode, she is probably Saera Targaryen, Daughter of Jahaerys The Wise and his Wife, Aunt of Daemon and Viserys, Grand Aunt of Rhaenyra
@@iammiist 1- he never call Daemon and Viserys his brothers ( tha was Ulf) 2-Hugh say that his mother said that he was just like her Brother's boys Viserys and Daimon, this means Hugh is cousin to Viserys and Damon 3-Yes his mother worked in a brothel, just like Saera Targaryen, ninthborn child and fifthborn daughter of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen. Sister to Baelon Targaryen the father of Viserys and Daemon
Considering that she fled to Lys at some point to pursue her "career" that seems very likely she could give birth to a bastard son, like Hugh during her stay. She was known to have at least 3 bastard sons, who sent their claims during the time of the Great Council. Wouldn't be surprising if she had at least one more, perhaps even Hugh being her firstborn before she made her wealth and prominence as a proprietor of prosperous Pleasure House of Volantis.
Amazing episode overall. Best scene was hugh claiming Vermithor. Also, the final scene with Rhaenyra on dragonstone with three large dragons behind her gave me goosebumps. Epic!
So Vermithor with let Rhaenarya pet him but not ride him. Well if she spent some time trying to train him she might ride 2 dragons. Dany could command 3. Perhaps this was never considered
The logistics and danger in trying to claim one dragon is great on its own, but trying to claim a fully grown dragon who you’ve yet to bond with who is also the second largest dragon in the world is just not worth the risk. Dany was lucky to have birth 3 dragons and bonded with them.
I think this episode pretty clearly stated that you need to have Valyrian blood and basically have a very similar personality to the dragon to claim it. Hugh is ballsy just like Vermithor. Addam is a free spirit and restless, just like Seasmoke. Ulf is a tame friendly guy just like Silverwing.
The Dragons and Rhaenyra were the best moments on the episode, the queen is playing the game in a really smart way with the common folk. While the ruthless ones (Daemon and Aemond), had to back down for once.
it isn't smart really. At the end of the day these people are just commoners who haven't beeen raised to be in the station they are thrust into. It's like giving children weapons of mass destruction to aid in your attempts at war.
Guys, can we please give a round of applause for Vermithor's entrance behind Rhaenyra. Wow I've never been inlove with a dragon before but Vermithor took my breath away. What a beautiful beast. 😍😍😍😍🥰🥰
@AtiotSiouy I agree, the dance of the dragons was epic. With Meleys and Sunfyre burning each other while they going down. I'm still pis@#d with Aemond's sneaky win with Vhagar. That was what a coward would do or fight. To me he didn't win at all, he took the little bit of sympathy I had for him out of the window. Meleys on the other hand fought fiercely until the end.
I like your take on how we should look at the dragons as people with personal preferences. Different dragons will look for something deferent from their riders. Good Take
Every Dragon has a character trait they look for except being of Valyrian blood - Vhagar - Ruthlessness (like Visenvya/Aemond) - Caraxes - Fierceness (Daemon) - Seasmoke - Chill and Sealoving (Laenor/Adam) - Vermithor - Courage and Protectiveness (Jaeherys/Hugh) - Quicksilver - Easygoing (Alysanne/Ulf)
Hugh is obviously related to vermithors last rider, daemons father. Had nothing to do with character so much, any claim requires confidence. A lot of foreshadowing was done in this episode. Yes Adam, Hugh, and every dragon seed has Targaryen blood. That’s literally the whole point of the episode.
@@KingJ1397-v8q Elissa Farman stole three dragon eggs from dragonstone and sold them to Braavos, so anyone from Myr, Pentos, Lys, Lorath, Norvos, Qohor or Essaria should have been able to buy and hatch these eggs, since all of those were Valyrian colonies and thus Valyrian blood
@@filipbitala2624 no agains makes no sense, as eggs that are dead can’t hatch or produce dragons, deanerys hatched the eggs cause she brought them back to life with blood magic by burning the witch, her husband , her baby and a horse. Life for life.
Only thing I didn't like was I knew exactly who were going to claim the dragons the minute they all showed up. Wish they would of made it more of a mystery.
@@KtMiraj A lot of things are starting to look very season 7 game of thronesy. Like Seasmoke magically finding adam forever and a half away. No one wants that to happen again.
That is right there is question in his birthright if the blacks will lose. Rheaynera is the most bad ass here gain vermithor to calm and obey..it gives me chills
Addam is 1/2 brother to Leanor in the show, but the blood of the dragon would have come from Rhaenys. Corlys is a Velaryon, traditionally sea lords. This is why it would make more sense for Addam to be Leanor's offspring. Thank you for your all the work you put in to your break downs, you do great!

What matters most is that now people can dispute his claim … the law is not that you have to be a Targaryen … the law is that your parents have to be WEDDED for you to be legitimate …
This is not about modern society … that was purely logical …
Rhaenyra is doing what her father did … SHE IS NOT THINKING AHEAD …
I like it when smart people watch the show. Great insight…

The look on Rhaenyra's face in the closing shot says everything.
Vermithor and Silverwing betraying her is the result of her own stupidity , it's like the president giving random civilians nuclear launch codes 😂😂

The rampaging Vermithor and the chill af Silverwing lmao
When Vermithor hovers over the prospective dragons seeds, it actually looks like he eyes Hugh, and the does a little purr before setting everyone to the left of him on fire. I think he was just trying to get rid of everyone else and when he rampages, he’s just trying to find Hugh. That’s why when he finds Hugh, he doesn’t kill the other woman, because Hugh told him not to. I do think Valyrian blood is a requirement of claiming a dragon but I don’t think it’s the most important thing, I think the rider has to match the dragons spirit as well!
Oscar was a highlight this episode. I have always loved house Tully and he is a gangster this episode

I want to know what exactly Rhaenyra was going to do if Addam said, nah, you're the usurper and I'm with King Aegon... If she tried to attack Addam, the dragons would have defended their riders and since Seasmoke RAN him down to claim HIM, I think Seasmoke would definitely have attacked him from Rhaenyra.
the creators said that rhaenyra was considering killing him
Rhaenya has a lot more experience riding and controlling her dragon so i think she would’ve won if they ech had time to make it back to their dragons
Hugh's mother was no "half-sister" she was "Full Sister", based in the information we get in the episode, she is probably Saera Targaryen, Daughter of Jahaerys The Wise and his Wife, Aunt of Daemon and Viserys, Grand Aunt of Rhaenyra
in the show he calls daemon and viserys his brothers not his cousins and he also states that his mother worked in a brothel
@@iammiistHugh said "her brother son, Viserys and Daemon" refering how his mother is Baelon sister.
@@iammiist 1- he never call Daemon and Viserys his brothers ( tha was Ulf)
2-Hugh say that his mother said that he was just like her Brother's boys Viserys and Daimon, this means Hugh is cousin to Viserys and Damon
3-Yes his mother worked in a brothel, just like Saera Targaryen, ninthborn child and fifthborn daughter of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen.
0:10 this episode cost more than my divorce 😂😂 (sorry for laughing it was just such a good line)
Perhaps this was never considered
damn i was searching for that cmnt
The logistics and danger in trying to claim one dragon is great on its own, but trying to claim a fully grown dragon who you’ve yet to bond with who is also the second largest dragon in the world is just not worth the risk. Dany was lucky to have birth 3 dragons and bonded with them.
@@PerfectDark0 silverwing was a totally cool dragon dude. He even took Ulf to meet his drinking buddies
She already has a dragon
Her story was different though- they were literally born because of her, mother of dragons
I think you nailed it!
But Laena and Aemond have drastically different personalities and they both rode Vaeghar
Am i the only one that picked up on Hugh being a courageous blacksmith and ironically enough Vermithor being called "The Bronze Fury"
Ive never been an Emma D'Arcy fan, but she is absolutely KILLING it as Rhaenyra Targaryen.
