    Awesome job Brent! I love watching the glass work and that chrome trim is going to dress it up perfectly! Definitely think it would look great two tone in white and pistachio paint!

    Brent, can I offer a small tip as I was once a glass cutter. Keep your cutter/s in a jar/tub/cup of white spirit, (only has to be an inch or two deep); it helps for a cleaner score, Drag your cuts toward you. Tap under the start of your score to start the vent. A bench covered with felt helps too as softens the scoring. I used a t square with a notch at the bottom to allow for the full stroke of the score. I like your idea of cutting the laminated glass using a torch to soften the lamination in the middle, then a one sided razor blade. I also used to make leaded lights too back in the day, very time consuming especially squeejiing thejoints in the lead.

    These are the best videos on chopping and general custom body work on youtube. I have found nothing close to the quality, explanation, step by step, etc. You have a serious talent that should be passed down. If you could find a local kid you could teach this stuff to hands-on youd be doing the entire world a favor

    Little trick when you cut laminate glass:
    If you dump some methyl hydrate on the glass and light it before you try to use the pliers on your cutoff, it will make the vinyl layer softer, stretchier, and more pliable and it will be easier to remove your cutoff pieces.

    Hey Brent , glass with class . Didn't get to see this one til I got home from work . I'm sure good with how it's turning out .This is just another one of those vehicles that draw my attention and cause me to forget about the other stuff around it that don't dance to the same tune .To borrow a comment a few years back from Von Knobb , "I could pull up a chair and look at this all afternoon ! I'm not sure if stained glass is different or not but I used to cut some really tight curves in stained glass by starting my tap in the tightest corner and work out to the cut ends, try it on some scraps but light taps if it trys getting away then go opposite side and work it that way and I hope it helps the cutting in the future. And I was going to comment in the last vid to get a glass cutter lol...

    The "exploding" glass is actually "tempered" glass. As you know, it is not possible to grind or cut it. It was tempered with heat, however during the "Space Race", Corning developed a tempering process using chemicals, not heat.

    Just a drop of crazy glue applied to the crack in the glass should make it disappear. I've had good luck with the thin UV curing resin as well on safety glass cracks. Dirt is the enemy of getting good results repairing cracks so the sooner you do the repair, the better the result.

    • @HalfassKustoms
      @HalfassKustoms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried it will have to try again, think the old stuff is much thicker than the glue can't get down the crack as well.

    Pro tip: use denatured alcohol when cutting the glass. It cuts cleaner and easier. Just spray the glass before, or dip the cutter in the alcohol. My brother was a professional glazier. That is what he did.

    One day I can and the next is why did you even try it looks so bad. Glad this one was a runner... even that is subject to change after all bodywork is done and a color appears so's you see a car for what it can really be. I have seen guys that start restoring the rigs they work on n then it goes from rat rod to restored nice car. I think it can be done to most any rig cause what may mean little now just little things make great changes in appearance
