When cleaning controllers and other small crevices like the button holes, I like to use a stiff straw brush. Helps get into those small spaces where a toothbrush head can't reach.
It's so great to see you soldering more confidently! I accidentally broke off the vibration motor wires for a ps4 controller and after seeing your first soldering try go fine I decided to try it myself. My goal was to I put together a custom shell and button light kit for my friend (I don't actually own a Playstation). I wanted to branch out so I figured that was a good way to do it. I finally finished it a few days ago and she loves it! Also last week I put together a little duck cart soldering kit to further my skills. Although I still can't get the stupid joysticks off for fixing drift, but I'll keep trying. Thanks for the inspiration and I know we'll both keep getting better! PS I also always break clips on those controllers, it feels inevitable 😅
I use car paint scratch remover and polish on laptops when I clean them up for resale. They come out looking almost brand new. I’ve used Armorall also to give them a shine. They all work great.
I must have gotten lucky. Bought a used PS4 for my kid last year. Did a complete breakdown to clean and reapply themal paste and also tore down both controllers to clean. Didn't break any tabs on the controllers. First time I've ever done it; beginners luck I guess.
Having to disassemble the entire console to get down to system components like the fan is truly a pain. I've done it several times and always think to myself, surely they could have designed the bottom shell of the case in such a way that this isn't necessary. Though I imagine Sony doesn't *want* you to repair it yourself when you can pay them to do it for you (or buy new)...
A couple of solutions for getting the smoke smell outta silicone pads is a mixture of water and white vinegar ( soak for an hour ). Also, theres a product called Mean Green Super Strength Cleaner. That stuff works wonders. 🙂
For the silicon pads, perhaps a soak in an ozium bath? There is a air deodorizer called Ozium, and it's designed to eliminate smoke smell. I don't think it would be harmful to the pads either...
Not the best way for large projects, but for the small silicone pieces, peroxide does a good job at smoke smell removal. My personal favorite for large scale or brute force cleaning of smoke stained and smell infused items is a product called citrus chisel. It's not cheap, but the good stuff isn't.
If you want to use less water, I'd suggest a mesh laundry bag for small pieces. I wonder if ozium would work for the persistent smoke smell. I bet an ozone machine would (that's what they use in cars) but those are 💰💰💰
I've cleaned different stufff like plastic, consoles, metal, etc.. that was smoke damaged (stained and smell). Bottled spray Lyson all purpose cleaner lemon has work the best in removing stain and smell, might work for you.
My xbox one works good except the disc reader, is there a way i can send it to you to look at?. I really enjoy watching your work and would like for you to fix mine.
Got into ur videos cuz I recently started opening up my consoles starting with my ps4 then ps5 now steam deck..HAVE U EVER THOUGHT OF WORKING ON A STEAM DECK?
@@RestorishOfficial this dust looks scary. Only one thing to recommend to - I would be a bit more carefull with the vaccuum cleaner and brush because of electrostatics they can create and touching then the PCB or HDD with it. There are parts, that could take some damage then doing it this way. I would recommend using a singular brush with natural (non plastic) hair and let the vaccum cleaner take the loose dust from a little distance...
Have you ever had any static electricity issues with the vacuum? I'm beginning to think all the things I was informed about static electricity while repairing electronics was a bit of an exaggeration.
I have not, and I just asked my boss (Steve at TronicsFix) and he says he has never had that issue either, with vacuums or compressed air. Not saying it is impossible, but it has never happened in our experience.
there can be issues, so better be a bit more carefull on this. Just use it, but with distance and a separate natural brush (becaus plastic brushes can build up electricity while using and rubbing against plastic parts)...
You'd be surprised, electronics aren't as sensitive to static charge as it use to be. Like working on motherboards, you don't need a grounding strap. If it was an old nes or atari I would be more careful, but not as much with modern electronics. (Just from my experience)
It's not a bad idea to be a bit carefull anyway. Just because you'll never know. And yes, older components/devices are more sensetive, that's right. But wouldn't do that also to modern APUs or RAM components...
Yes, a vacuum can cause static and I wouldn't risk it. I think the biggest issue is with the large floor vacs as they build up static on the carpet, then people remove the large attachment head from the pole and use the pole directly on the circuit boards. If the vac head has a powered brush then the pole could zap electronics or the biggest concern is the metal pole accidentally knocking and sucking off circuit board components. That vac you are using is much less of a risk. I personally stick to compressed air and IPA.
I have had a number of people tell me they appreciate this when following along. I will consider stopping though if it bothers enough people. Let me know, others!
this looks like every pawn shop ps4 before you cleaned it, what a transformation!

Tronicsfix brought me here.
Was he playing that in the desert? lol
He thought there were rivers in the desert. (If you know, you know)
The strainer for small parts was brilliant
Haha forgetting the battery is absolutely something i would do. Great work looks new again.

the most relaxing deep clean for me 😍

Cant get over that satifying glove flick when you mix the water
So good to see and hear your Thermal Paste make the same noise as mine, tought something was wrong with it ;)
This channel is so good. This music makes me want to lay in my jacuzzi while i watch on the big screen 😂
I'll never understand how people let their console get like this
A lot of people don't know any better
I think this was a special circumstance with that amount of dust
Man what a cleaning! Really nice job and this ps version is beautiful

Legend Says: The owner of this Slim used to live in the middle of Kalahari Desert.... In a roofless tent
I had never noticed before that the camo design is just small ps4 controllers, how cute
Amount of dust was crazy but ending look was awesome!!!!

Wtf lol insane amount of dirt. Great job.
I don't how I'm so late to this video. Glad to see this gross system get such a good clean!
love the strainer that’s a great idea, so satisfying to watch your videos keep up the good work!!

Noice! ( omg the batt on the final lol)
Great video Robert
Where did this PS4 live? In the desert?
people are gross
The smoke I get it but dust, no matter how clean u are it's gonna get there 😂
@ I’m not really even talking about the dust it’s just how much tar and gross stuff is in there
23:53 Ahh, the perfect amount of thermal paste. 😌
Steve's school!
I have the same collor one to
Removing smoke odors from things is a pain. On plastic I’ve had success. On rubber/silicon it never seems to come out.

great job..
What ps4 slim? i didn't see one...
How much do u charge I need cleaning
Do you use flux when you solder the rumble motors back to the board?
Solder wire has a flux core inside, so it's not necessary to use extra flux
@psteier So do you just touch the wire to board and heat it up with the soldering iron?
@@kytim89 wire to pad, iron to pad, solder wire to iron -> melts. That's enough
That smoke dust is tobacco+'herb' staining. Looking at it, I can smell it. For some reason the 'herb' picks up so much dust and yuck.
Does he live in the desert?
Is this the PS4 you've showed to us on Discord? Nice work again...
Yes it is the one I was dialoguing with you about re the smoke removal

Thanks guy

Did that person burry the ps4 in a construction side? Like some kind of tresure? That is the only possible option I can think of... Boy.... xD
eres el mejor
seems like the console went to war too
👍👍
Looks like sawdust or plasterboard dust
Yeah I was thinking the same. Maybe this PS4 was living in some woodwork shop or such?
yes yes ipad5 ps4 sils
Am I the only one that thinks that’s not nearly enough soap?😅
some people are pigs how can anything be so dirty, my electronics are like new even years after use
No wonder it smells like smoke
I would hate to see the owners house.
👍🥺
Camouflage livery, dirt, smell of smoke... Did that come from the trenches of the war in Ukraine? 🧐
People who smoke indoors are disgusting.
Purely opinion lol. If you're a smoker you're already filling your lungs with it so at that point what's it matter if it's in your home?
You should get a job in china dude
dont give up your day job.
