Regarding the heavy amount of thermal paste I used...it was at least partially a joke. I knew I was putting too much in, and did so because I was handing this project back to Steve at TronicsFix who has a long running joke with his community regarding the perfect amount of thermal paste. Sometimes jokes hit. Sometimes they don't.
Saying that, I was watching an old video where Steve left a cockroach in a console that he gave u to clean after he fixed it, so I'd call it pay back 😜😜😂😂😂😂😂
there is no such thing as too much thermal paste. steve from gamer nexus proved that a long time ago. when dealing with a bare die like that you better put too much rather than not enough so you won't get a 110c hotspot.
@@hmello3250 Just to clarify, as long as you are using a non-conductive thermal paste there is absolutely no downside, it will just squish out the side and make a mess for the next time you open it up to clean or reapply paste, but it won't hurt anything and won't affect thermals. However, while most are, not all pastes are non-conductive. If you get those into any of the surface mounted components around the die you'll have a bad day.
I simply don't understand how that xbox could get that dusty. Maybe if it was in a wood shop next to saws that run 24/7 it might get that amount of dust in it.... great job.
Steve told me to come here so here I am. Man, I wish I could've borrowed this guy when it came time to clean my window LG air conditioner. Shocked at how much black mold that thing was filled with. I got almost all of it, I think. The inner wheel on the front that blows the air was the hardest to get at and I didn't want to take the whole thing apart.
I'm glad this new of a system can still be disassembled and cleaned without bricking the console. I honestly thought Microsoft or Sony would've put something like required security code unique to a system's serial number to ensure repairs or cleaning jobs couldn't happen but it hasn't happened yet, and I hope they don't even consider doing something like that in the future.
i just cleaned mine for the first time earlier today and it looked pretty much exactly like this. I have 3 dogs that shed a lot, so its really a miracle that it worked this long without a cleaning in the first place.
I think Steve is te only one with the capability to apply the *perfect* amount of thermal paste. No other human can achieve the type of sheer homeostasis that man can.
OMG i am in complete shock, I can't imagine letting my gaming system get that nasty. The previous owner must have lived in a teepee in the desert somewhere. You did an amazing job cleaning this system.
@@KyleNornIreland U know dust covers are used when system are powered off and not in use . That's with me anyway I don't know how other people use them though.🤔
What was that attachment you had to your compressor nozzle? How did you attach it? I don’t have a nozzle that small. I just have the regular air compressor nozzle. Satisfying video by the way.
@@thumbsarehandy. that’s what I thought but I don’t think mine has a way to shove it in there. I’m gonna have to get a different nozzle thank you. Thumbs are handy.
How the actual hell do some people treat their stuff? That's not a cheap machine, for most people, including me. I look after my stuff as best as I can. IT LASTS LONGER. Did the last owner use it as a bench for sanding wood?!
How did you protect the sticker you removed and then put back on? I'm always unsure about the best way to do this. Also, that has to be the dirtiest water you've had for a while!
I hope you wear a mask or at least use an air purifier when doing these cleanings. I regularly restore and clean consoles and the amount of nasty stuff i come across always warrants some PPE. Great video 👍
Hi Wow , I have launch edition Xbox series X laying on its side in a media Storage unit , regularly dusted, perhaps i should be brave and open it and use my hoover on it , its 4 years old now 👍
Gag I hope you wore some kinda mask, goggles, get a fume hood, or a sand blast cabinet, dry your air… Dusting first before disassembling is always an option, but I understand for the video…
wrinkled stickers can usually be straightened by heating and using a flat tool to flatten then paying attention not to crease the sticker. youll never get the crease out
I’ve cleaned some dirty pc’s in the past, but that dust bunny(bear) was the biggest I’ve seen in a console, but not the biggest I’ve seen ever that was one we pulled from a server unit from a school that thing was the size of a baseball, n the school wondered why the server stopped working….
Great video.. but Omg... waay too much thermal paste.. The rule is.. No more than a garden pea sized amount. or you risk it pooling and creating an uneven surface and poor seal, and it could also leak out when it heats up and could possibly cause a short between 2 points.. but the rest is good information.. Thanks
Not me going through the comments looking for Steve’s score 😅 Great work as always, Robert. Your creative name for the ginormous dust bunny had me cackling 😂
I'm just curious as to why you don't do some pre-vacuuming before you start disassembly to prevent dust from going into the small ribbon cable connections? Is it to make the video dramatic or something???
Did someone intentionally fill it with dirt? Thats what it looks like. Fan blades were suspiciously clean considering what the rest of case looked like
Lol....i love how you passed it off to steve. Great work on the xbox. It looks great. Although it does look like decided to play a game with some dust bunnies and lost. 😅

Lol, I figured the thermal paste was a joke, and I got a good laugh out of it. Steve would probably rate it 3/10
@@Shinquapin and Steve didn't open as it was working 😂😂
Coulda used more thermal paste. We need to do some more training there, lol
Supposed to be the 'perfect' amount of thermal paste. I have always called it heat dope.
That's what I just said. Waaaaaay too much. Double if not more of what you use.
😂😂😂😂😂
That Xbox was excavated from an archeological site in Sudan. Look at that brilliant fossil pattern.
lol
May also be some construction worker playing on site 🙂
😂
xbox mad max

Just watched Steve's video. It't time for this one ❤❤❤
Ditto was waiting for it.
LOL at 2:29, gotta love when you're on autopilot just to realize a split second too late "Wait a minute, that was dumb"

damn this thing went from dirty and dusty af to factory new. Awesome work!
Can't believe you've unearthed the 1980s prototype model for the latest xbox console
You cleaned it so well it went back to him working with zero issues.
you guys timed these videos well, just watched tronix video
I hate how they know consoles always get opened for either cleaning or repairs. Stop putting the stickers over the screws

2:35 thats one damn Duststorm :D
Love that film conair didnt know they made mech for the film 😮
LOL, he will say too much. Great work on the cleaning
Can't wait to see Steve's reaction, but it's revenge for Steve leaving a dead cockroach in a console after he fixed it and sent to this guy 😂😂
That dusty moment we all already had... ;)
I have 2 series x and they are definitely my cleanest consoles because I love pulling them apart 😅
I think Steve is te only one with the capability to apply the *perfect* amount of thermal paste. No other human can achieve the type of sheer homeostasis that man can.
💯
All that dust made me sneeze once you used that hair dryer on that ribbon cable inside there.
The person probably lived in a desert or by a beach. A house can accumulate alot more dust in desert and beach areas cause of the sand.
Nah it’s dust like in a vacuum cleaner bag. Not much sand. I do wonder where it came from, underneath it was practically brand new
Looks like it was used by construction workers on their work station during their breaks..
How can a console get so dirty? It looks like it has been running for decades..
i think my allergy just kicked in seeing those dust went airborne
This console was used at a construction site? 😮

I thought Chip Foose was in the thumbnail lol.
2:40 i was really hoping for the audio "it was at this moment, he knew he fucked up". Missed opportunity IMO. 😂
This Xbox must smoke more than my grandma and that's impressive
Just mind boggling when i see units like this. I'm like how in the hell. Though that's why i have dust covers for all my systems...😁

We did not see it cut on that Steve Jobs I can wait to ask Steve about this.
It looks perfect!
the question we all are asking here is: where did that one peace go to, which you found in the cleaning process in the water
Wow - my first time with a cross-over - very interesting!
It's pristine. 👏👏👏
You were a little heavy-handed with the thermal paste.
I was sneezing just looking at all of that dust
very perfect clean

Ah yes my favourite CS map: de_dust
I guess Burning Man Edition!!

Steve definitely sent me here and I subscribed… this better be good. 👌
@Restorish You did an excellent job cleaning this XBOX! It's like putting together a factory new system.
And they say you can't smell a video....
That "incorrect amount" of thermal paste made me cringe. Naughty Robert! 😢
looks like the inside of a vacuum
Is that hairdryer movie prop? :)
Seems like someone had this in their woodworking shop…
Where did this xbox came from, a barnfind 😂
You put too much thermal paste, nevertheless it was a professional job, well done.
That why not the perfect amount of thermal paste before.
Please reconsider using the correct amount of thermal paste next time. this was a bit too little for my taste.
Very satisfying video. Subscription earned. 😊
no wonder there's not much dust in my house this console stole it all jeez
Nice❤
Someone definitly mis took this Xbox for a vacum cleaner😂
Because someone made it like that for a cleaning project.
You got your money's worth out of that Dawn on this one. FILTHY water.
Looks like the military had it in the desert.
You're a meticulous cleaner with great attention to detail.👍
Does your compressor have a moisture filter
Tooth picks work well for removing the thermal paste from between the chips, good job on the restoration
Your watch is stressing me out that close to water.
