Regarding the heavy amount of thermal paste I used...it was at least partially a joke. I knew I was putting too much in, and did so because I was handing this project back to Steve at TronicsFix who has a long running joke with his community regarding the perfect amount of thermal paste. Sometimes jokes hit. Sometimes they don't.
Saying that, I was watching an old video where Steve left a cockroach in a console that he gave u to clean after he fixed it, so I'd call it pay back 😜😜😂😂😂😂😂
there is no such thing as too much thermal paste. steve from gamer nexus proved that a long time ago. when dealing with a bare die like that you better put too much rather than not enough so you won't get a 110c hotspot.
@@hmello3250 Just to clarify, as long as you are using a non-conductive thermal paste there is absolutely no downside, it will just squish out the side and make a mess for the next time you open it up to clean or reapply paste, but it won't hurt anything and won't affect thermals. However, while most are, not all pastes are non-conductive. If you get those into any of the surface mounted components around the die you'll have a bad day.
I simply don't understand how that xbox could get that dusty. Maybe if it was in a wood shop next to saws that run 24/7 it might get that amount of dust in it.... great job.

At first, I wasn't sure this was going to be all that dusty, but when you pulled the case cover off, my jaw dropped; I just couldn't believe how dirty that machine got! This is a fantastic clean-up job you've done!
Steve told me to come here so here I am. Man, I wish I could've borrowed this guy when it came time to clean my window LG air conditioner. Shocked at how much black mold that thing was filled with. I got almost all of it, I think. The inner wheel on the front that blows the air was the hardest to get at and I didn't want to take the whole thing apart.
i just cleaned mine for the first time earlier today and it looked pretty much exactly like this. I have 3 dogs that shed a lot, so its really a miracle that it worked this long without a cleaning in the first place.
I'm glad this new of a system can still be disassembled and cleaned without bricking the console. I honestly thought Microsoft or Sony would've put something like required security code unique to a system's serial number to ensure repairs or cleaning jobs couldn't happen but it hasn't happened yet, and I hope they don't even consider doing something like that in the future.
Gag I hope you wore some kinda mask, goggles, get a fume hood, or a sand blast cabinet, dry your air… Dusting first before disassembling is always an option, but I understand for the video…
I'm just curious as to why you don't do some pre-vacuuming before you start disassembly to prevent dust from going into the small ribbon cable connections? Is it to make the video dramatic or something???
How did you protect the sticker you removed and then put back on? I'm always unsure about the best way to do this. Also, that has to be the dirtiest water you've had for a while!
OMG i am in complete shock, I can't imagine letting my gaming system get that nasty. The previous owner must have lived in a teepee in the desert somewhere. You did an amazing job cleaning this system.
@SquishyTheVampire I clean my ps4 every month. I don't smoke but I live next to a shipping terminal so there is traffic all hours of the day and night. Surprisingly alot of dust in my apartment.
@SquishyTheVampire that's sad, they cost way too much to not take care of them better and just do some basic cleaning maintenance so it works top notch forever.
@@rossdevin9799 most people don't have the time, money, or expertise to do it themselves or hire someone to do it for them. I don't know many people who actually clean their consoles.

How the actual hell do some people treat their stuff? That's not a cheap machine, for most people, including me. I look after my stuff as best as I can. IT LASTS LONGER. Did the last owner use it as a bench for sanding wood?!
I hope you wear a mask or at least use an air purifier when doing these cleanings. I regularly restore and clean consoles and the amount of nasty stuff i come across always warrants some PPE. Great video 👍
Great video.. but Omg... waay too much thermal paste.. The rule is.. No more than a garden pea sized amount. or you risk it pooling and creating an uneven surface and poor seal, and it could also leak out when it heats up and could possibly cause a short between 2 points.. but the rest is good information.. Thanks
wrinkled stickers can usually be straightened by heating and using a flat tool to flatten then paying attention not to crease the sticker. youll never get the crease out
Hi Wow , I have launch edition Xbox series X laying on its side in a media Storage unit , regularly dusted, perhaps i should be brave and open it and use my hoover on it , its 4 years old now 👍
You definitely should at least take off the backplate and the fan. It's very simple and will give you ample access to what you need to clean without taking it all the way apart. Especially the heat sinks. Those are vital and build up a ton of dust. You'll be able to vacuum and/or brush those once the fan housing is removed
@@KyleNornIreland U know dust covers are used when system are powered off and not in use . That's with me anyway I don't know how other people use them though.🤔
I'd bet that this system was very close to, or actually on, the floor. Most likely in a room with no carpeting, or anyone thinking to vacuum regularly. Remember: if it has an internal fan it's basically an immobile, inefficient vacuum cleaner.
One question when I did all of this and then rebuilt it I puted the plug and I saw smoke coming of and it smelled burned so I opened it again and the white cable that I needed to unlock to get it out was burned can somehow buy another one and fix it?
Not me going through the comments looking for Steve’s score 😅 Great work as always, Robert. Your creative name for the ginormous dust bunny had me cackling 😂

It’s not a good idea to clean electronics with compressed air like that. You will introduce it to allot of static electricity. Static electricity will in most cases not damage it immediately but it might be the root cause of a future failure.
This is a weird way to clean this. Why wouldn’t you take it outside and reverse vacuum it first. It would just make sense to pre clean it before dumping all that on yourself and inside your home.
