Ok, if you're going to complain about the Forrester's fuel economy, at least compare apples to apples. To put the Forrester up against it's hybrid competition isn't close to fair. How does the Forrester compare to the non hybrid CR-V and Rav4? I've got a 2022 Outback that I traded a 2013 Rav4 for. The Rav4 rarely approached it's EPA estimated fuel economy ratings, something that always disappointed me. My Outback has easily matched it's EPA estimates which means it has routinely returned 2.5 to 3 mpg better, across the board, than my Rav4 and that's with the Outback's AWD besting the Rav4's 2-wheel drive.
Scotty Kilmer did a review of somebody Subaru Forester wilderness and because the owner had a bigger build the RAV4 was a bit small for him so we went with the Forester.
@@robertknight4672 - My Rav4 was ok, comfort wise, but I think the Subaru is better. Obviously, I'm more satisfied with the Subaru's fuel economy than I was with the Toyota's. The best thing I can say for the Rav4 is I traded it in with 135k miles on it and in that distance, I never spent one dollar on the car for repairs. Nothing ever failed. All the money I spent on the car was simply maintenance related. So far, my Outback, approaching 50k miles, is in the same boat. Time will tell how well it stacks up against the Toyota on that statistic.
The non hybrid RAV4 motor also sounds like a piece of old farm equipment. I worked at a Toyota dealership when the current Rav model came out with that motor. As each sales guy drove the car the comments were “oh boy that’s not good” Hybrid model camouflages that a good bit and is definitely a better choice IMO…..but not apples to apples with the Forester. I did a lot of research for a couple months on the CRV, Rav 4, Mazda and Subaru Forester. I think the CRV was the best looking of the 4. The Rav was expensive to get the Subaru options as was the Mazda. In the end I went with the 2024 Forester Sport because i wanted the dual X mode and 2.5 engine and loved the black rims. I love the heated seats and Softec seat material. The Harmon Kardin stereo rocks. The engine power is perfectly fine and this is coming from somebody who has owned 2 Corvettes. I absolutely live everything about this vehicle and plan on keeping it for a long time.
As a Forester owner living in snow country, I love the full-time 4wd. However, there are better options out there if you live where the weather is docile.
The two things I can’t stand are what this video praises. Turbo charged engines, and the annoying huge infotainment screen that Forester luckily doesn’t have. The Wilderness cladding looks cheesy?? Insane. That’s my favorite part.
I like my 2023 base Forester mostly because of its taller height than the outback which gives you a little more Headroom. And I like the large Windows too. My previous car was a Honda Element. I think the Next Generation Forester will end up with that large screen I think the Crosstrek already has it.

I live in a city and the acceleration is plenty. Gas mileage is good too for the size. Overall, great small SUV and I highly recommend!

After doing a lot of research, I decided to buy a Forester for my son. The main reason is safety and insurance cost. We only have this car for a week and so far, to be honest, I like it very much. Car reviewers are insufferable at times. Like yes, an economy vehicle is not going to have a 300HP engine, get 40 MPG, and look like an Acura. If you want a performance luxury car obviously you dont go with a Subaru. However, this vehicle is outstanding for its segment. This vehicle would run you 39.8k at Honda while I can walk in a subaru and get this for 10% off MSRP because the Subaru dealer network isnt filled with greedy animals.
I've been all over this segment (compact SUV) as I search for the replacement for my Forester XT. The bottom line seems to be that it is difficult to get everything in one place. Towing for example. The CRV Hybrid actually loses 500 lbs to the 1.5L turbo CRV, and is only rated for 1,000 lbs. If you opt for the Wilderness edition of the Forester, you can tow up to 3500 lbs. The stock RAV4 hybrid tows 1750 lbs. Maybe the Woodland is higher, but you do lose some mpg (ditto the Wilderness, as it's shorter gearing kills highway mpg). If you like some of the all-weather aids, you can't get fog lights (factory/dealer) on a CRV or CX-5/50. Honda even teases you with little chrome accents on the lower grill. And btw, the "go anywhere" CRV Hybrid does NOT have a spare tire, but instead a tire repair kit. Useless if you gash a sidewall or have anything bigger than a nail/screw sized leak. Not confidence inspiring if you use your vehicle for light off-roading. In this price range, most everything is somewhat of a compromise between price, reliability ratings, mpg, acceleration, useable cargo area, back seat room, etc. Apparently the electronic only AWD works fine in the RAV4 (rear wheels only driven by electric motor. A clever idea to eliminate the drivetrain, but when the roads get really slick or mud/snow gets deep, is it as good? Haven't seen anyone really address this.) Right now, the '24 Foresters are discounted (at least in my region) as the '25's are about to arrive. For a similarly equipped RAV 4 hybrid, it is several thousand more. (Comparing the Limited with 032 package) and the payback on gas savings is on the order of 10 years out if you drive 12K per year and use gas at $ 4.50 (regular in my region now). The CX-5/50 are just as sluggish as the Forster, unless you opt for the turbo versions, then expect combined 25 mpg. And cargo space, rear seat space are compromised. So, choose your compromise.
Shopping for any car is an exercise in compromises. You can't get a car with every advantage. Subarus perform quite well, however, you'll need to adjust to a few of the things mentioned in this video. Personally, I don't flash and flare. My '14 Forester and '16 Legacy are more than competent vehicles. I even enjoy changing my own motor oil as the filter is on top of the engine.
I owned a 2015 Subaru Forester, both the resonator and muffler had to be changed at only 30000 miles. Not long after the rear calipers seized so both calipers, discs and pads had to be changed. I gave up on it and traded it in.
I paid cash for a new Forester in 2015. I’ve never heard any sounds coming from the CVT. It’s 9 years old and no maintenance issues at all yet. I replaced the battery at yr 7 even though it was still working ok.
It's your choice. More power or higher MPG. Pay ten thousand more up front for a hybrid, or spend $50 more each week for gas. Real-time all-wheel drive or a little better MPG but some slippage before AWD kicks in. Turbo power or natural aspiration that gives longer engine life and a little better MPG.
Idk about you but every subaru i have owned does horrible in city mileage. My 2011 legacy 3.6 only gets 16-18. My outback 2.5i 2017 only gets like 18 at best in the city and my crosstrek gets about 21
@@Hallowsaw We get 19 - 20mpg in full city driving with our '22 Outback Limited XT (it's a TURBO, turbo haters!), which is a bit higher than what we got in similar driving conditions with our previous 2010 Chevy Malibu 4cyl/6spd auto. And that car was almost 500lbs lighter and FWD only. Oh, and mixed driving around town with our OB? 22 - 23mpg, and highway (interstate driving)? Every time I drive an Outback as a loaner car at my dealer, I realize I like driving the Forester much more, the increased height, the best visibility.
I loved my 2019 Subaru Forester Sport and I was getting 36mpg in it until someone ran a red light. When I had a solid green light on my side of the road and wrecked my 2019 Subaru Forester Sport totaling it. The person admitted that he ran the red light and hit me in the intersection as I was going across. He hit my 2019 Subaru Forester Sport so hard it spun my 2019 Subaru Forester Sport 180° and I hit another vehicle on the opposite side of the intersection while they were sitting at the red light with the back end of my 2019 Subaru Forester Sport. But I was getting 29mpg on the city without getting on it and just cruising in the city. And on the highway is where I was getting 36mpg just cruising down the highway to my work. So I was getting 3mpg while I sit my 2019 Subaru Forester Sport on regular cruise control. That is how I was getting 36mpg on the highway.
If you have already decided you don't like something, it is easy to find a way to justify it. I agree that the Forester is under-powered. But the rest of your complaints are purely personal preferences. Is Mazda better? Try using the rotary knob control while driving. And its better looks? That beautiful candy apple red paint that is usually shown costs hundreds of dollars extra.
Hello! I respect your opinion, but I don't share it. At least on the last point, the SF design, goes with the times. It can't be left behind. Although I personally prefer the 2024 model. Regards.
Anyone who compares a petrol car's fuel consumption to the hybrid version of their competitors is just making content, not giving any serious analysis.
I have both an Outback (2018) and Forester (2020) and I would take the Forester over the Outback every time. The Forester is 'taller' and has much better visibility. It's easier to drive and park in most cases and it's better for our 80 pound yellow lab due to it's taller cargo area. The Outback is great also, but just doesn't drive quite as well, in my experience,
Bunk! and again I say bunk!! Have3 a 2021 Premier and it is plenty peppy with decent acceleration. It maintains highway speeds above 70 mph without having to downshift as my 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe did. The transmission does not drone and although it is a CVT transmission it feels like it has shift points like a standard transmission and I have heard others make this same comment. I have to agree about the low towing capacity of 1500 lbs. but my research says that you should not tow with any CVT transmission. I have a Ford F250 if I need to tow anything. Am annoyed that on my lower level model i cant get blind spot sensors, but it does come with lane departure and collision avoidance sensors. Lastly On a higher level model I can scroll through the info center and see what my engine temperature is, but not on my level. Cant understand their thinking something that should be standardized on all levels. The usb ports are hard to get to being tucked away and recessed.
Wow. I clicked on this looking for some useful information. I got a poor example of false equivalencies. I won't bother clicking on any of your videos in the futures. Oh... and I'm all for constructive critiques but this is just really biased.... ah.... brake bias... hmmmm.....
You're talking about the 2025 Forester that's not even out yet! I just traded in my 2021 Forester Sport for the 2024 Forester Sport. Believe it or not, the 2024 Forester's engine actually work fine and is quick if you know how to drive! They have a sports mode that gives you the power you need!
Try saying something simple like "there's no spare tyre so if you get a flat tyre, you're fucked". A repair kit won't help you if you tear the side out of your tyre and you don't have coverage to call someone for help.
In almost 30yrs of driving cars, i luckily never needed a spare tyre. But in the last 4 yrs i needed the compressor from the repair kit 2 times because of screws in the tyre… so i could fill up the tyre just with air and could drive to a garage to repair the tyre.
I don't know about the 2024 model year but with 2023 and earlier all Forester trims came with a spare tire. Full size spare tire for the Wilderness trim compact spares for everything else.
@@robertknight4672 here in germany is just a 2litre hybrid version of the forester available…the place for the spare tyre is blocked with a high voltage battery.
Oh and turbo charging a small engine sounds great but turbos are another major thing to go wrong and strand you. Turbos make the car less reliable, another thing to go wrong. I’ve seen way too many Subarus needing major repairs way way too soon.
This video seems to have absolutely no idea what people want. Other than a larger engine, nothing else mentioned in here is anything I would want. I prefer the switches, knobs and buttons over a touch screen any day. I just bought the 2024 Outback Wilderness, but I like a more traditional layout in the inside of a vehicle.
The Forester is a competent, time tested compact SUV whose shortcomings are quickly surpassed by its virtues of value, roominess, outside visibility, ergonomics to name a few. The Outback is a fullsize station wagon on stilts and cot comparable to the Forester that once again is a compact suv, compact as in small. I don't own a Forester nor do I work for Subaru or hold stock in the company, But your video lacks knowledge and research.
Also, be aware - AWD drives require perfectly matched tires. If you have a flat or puncture 5 or 8000 miles, the tread and weight of 3 tires are mismatched to a single new tire. This isn't always the case, but be away - some drivers have bought 4 new tires because of one nail in one tire. sigh
I’ve own two Super boo boo’s. Junk engine design that hasn’t changed much over the decades. When the engine starts to leak oil which is common for these, it drips right onto the exhaust manifold smoking you out in the cabin. My mom has a new one and at 22k miles the engine was totally rebuilt and she did maintenance perfect. I have many friends who own them. Head gasket leaks, burning oil way to soon and rebuilds for them too. While these drive nice and yes the Outback is better, same engine, I will never own another one.
The Subaru Outback XT models are no slugs by any measure, either. I've made fools of several Honda, Toyota, and Mazda drivers that wanted to 'play'.......
The 25 forester is a dissapointment. It use to be a good value price wise. The price increase for the 2025 model is not justified. Theres plenty of 2024 available. Why pay more for the same car. Its underpowered dated dash it just a bad refresh

I’ve had mine for 3 years. Still love it. Never had any issues and I’m keeping it for a lifetime
How do you dispose of the used oil?
They're showing you a 2025 Forester - not the 2024.
I’ll take spartan cabins as long as the view lines remain. These cabins provide unrivaled views.

That’s why I’m considering the purchase.

I own a 2020 Forester Limited. It requires fastidious maintenance and has been down for repairs several times. It is sure-footed but delicate.
I guess getting 34 hwy mpg's in my 2023 isn't enough.
Idk about you but every subaru i have owned does horrible in city mileage. My 2011 legacy 3.6 only gets 16-18. My outback 2.5i 2017 only gets like 18 at best in the city and my crosstrek gets about 21
@Hallowsaw yeah I get about 21-24 depending on where I am. I get the highway numbers from the 6 hour trips I go on regularly.
@@Hallowsaw bad oil inside the engine. even if its 0w20. its making a difference from one brand to another.
We can break 31 - 32mpg with no difficulty (MPG measured at the pump, NOT by MPG computer). Just don't take Interstate 75 during the Christmas holidays.... 😡😠😠😡😡
@@nuenevoie i change oil 4k miles and we drive 40k miles a year between all 3. I use penzoil ultra platinum 5w30 on the 3.6, and 0w20 on the trek and outback. You are assuming i do not take care of my cars. I strictly follow maintenance and do a lot of things earlier than most suggest. Tires before they get to the wear bars, diff and trans at 30k ext.
I’m still driving a 2007 forester and have been for the last ten years. I love mine
Anything you mentioned in the video l know and accept when l buy Subaru for the last 25 years. It is like my family l accept with all defaults. Because Subaru saved my wife's life. I would not change it if even consumes 15 lt per 100 km. I feel safe with Subaru. I am also pushing my son for Subaru since they plan to have child near soon. Hopefully l can succeed.
❤FORESTER TOURING 2023 !!! #1 SAFETY AND ELEGANT SUV ONE OF THE BEST 🎉
Every time I drive an Outback as a loaner car at my dealer, I realize I like driving the Forester much more, the increased height, the best visibility.
I LOVE my 2025 Forester Premium!! Outbacks look like a station wagon. I went with Suburu for their safety record.
Well said.
Now that the carmakers are suing to end CAFE, Subaru should bring back the 3.0 liter 6-cylinder engine.
I had until it was totaled a 2022 SFW. Everything you say is true. I loved it anyway and the look, but it was drone-sounding and not fast.
We just did an 8000 mile trip in our 2020 forester sport. It did fantastic. So I don’t agree with anything you have posted.
And here we were complaining about how the CVT drones on and on...
😂😂😅
Hello! I respect your opinion, but I don't share it. At least on the last point, the SF design, goes with the times. It can't be left behind. Although I personally prefer the 2024 model. Regards.
For everyday life they are perfect and practical
Anyone who compares a petrol car's fuel consumption to the hybrid version of their competitors is just making content, not giving any serious analysis.
Agree.
I have both an Outback (2018) and Forester (2020) and I would take the Forester over the Outback every time. The Forester is 'taller' and has much better visibility. It's easier to drive and park in most cases and it's better for our 80 pound yellow lab due to it's taller cargo area. The Outback is great also, but just doesn't drive quite as well, in my experience,
Try a Gen 6 (2020 to present), and you'll change your mind. I easily took my '22 outback Limited XT over ANY Forester, any day.
Bunk! and again I say bunk!!
Not everyone wants a station wagon. I love my Forester.
Lots of information and this made a lot of sense I still like the Forester the size and capabilities fits my life style
I wish they would sort out the bluetooth on the entertainment system so that Apple Watch Bluetooth doesn’t interfere with the music from your iPhone.
Turbo is needed❤
Reviewers always push for more. I believe a lower price like the Maverick started out would attract a nice market share.
I think they are well build suv and if you want more power buy a V8 gas guzzler
U can get a 2013 forester with 110k miles for 4k ..good condition...❤ yes !..dont waste your money on new cars folks...
Disregard this video and buy the Forester. You won't regret it.
Hey, I love my Forrester. No issues at all American vehicles are junk.
SPORT in name only
Subaru has a true full time AWD, not like Toyota.
Who really needs that much power. Speed in only good for speeding tickets.
Love my forester wilderness!!
Agree Outback may be a better option for some Subaru buyers.
I love my 2020 Forester!!😊😅
The Forester is a competent, time tested compact SUV whose shortcomings are quickly surpassed by its virtues of value, roominess, outside visibility, ergonomics to name a few. The Outback is a fullsize station wagon on stilts and cot comparable to the Forester that once again is a compact suv, compact as in small. I don't own a Forester nor do I work for Subaru or hold stock in the company, But your video lacks knowledge and research.
Dafuq is this? It sounds like this video was made in 2012, not 2024. So much inaccurate nonsense, simply misleading...
Also, be aware - AWD drives require perfectly matched tires. If you have a flat or puncture 5 or 8000 miles, the tread and weight of 3 tires are mismatched to a single new tire. This isn't always the case, but be away - some drivers have bought 4 new tires because of one nail in one tire. sigh
So, what's your point? Do you know that almost ALL CAR MANUFACTURERS OFFER AWD IN THEIR PRODUCT LINES?
On the other hand, as long as you keep your wheels aligned and rotate and balance them, tires last 2-3 times as long as on a front-wheel-drive car.
TH-cam superstar Mechanic Scotty K. Says to avoid turbos.
And he'll say ANYTHING to generate controversy and clicks. Meaningless.

Older models?

#8no hybrid model or plug-in!.
#9 no forester full electric

The 25 forester is a dissapointment. It use to be a good value price wise. The price increase for the 2025 model is not justified. Theres plenty of 2024 available. Why pay more for the same car. Its underpowered dated dash it just a bad refresh
Other brands are raising their price too.
