This group is NOT from America. Please disregard that brief statement. Ty corrected himself in real time but apparently forgot to change this during editing. Carry on!
Right, Australia-UK
When you do so many of these videos, some things you just say out of habit lol - Ty
Let's get back to some real funk!
Isley Brothers- Fight The Power 🔥
The BE,GEES UPERPER ALBUM ALBUM, CHILDREN OF THE WORLD, WAS GREAT AND MAYBE EVEN A LITTLE BETTER THE NITE FEVER, ALBUM!
Take a listen!.
The Bee Gees had a long and successful career BEFORE "Saturday Night Fever".
Indeed.
'Don't Forget to Remember Me', lovely country song that stays with you. They sure did.
And after..
And after.
Mid and late 60's The best Bee Gee's,tho u do love my 70's Bee Gees and Boz Scagg's
This song is not disco. It is more 70s R&B. It is a soulful ballad. Disco qualities are embedded but it is missing the particular beat that defines disco. Having said that, bring on all the disco you want. I love it.
Exactly! You slow dance to this - you need a beat to disco dance.
I don’t understand I’m not being mean here don’t attack me, but I guess we need to look up the definition of the word disco. I always felt like it was a good beat and a good song to dance to not a slow love song like this one.❤
@@kathystammen8774 You are not wrong. The classic four-on-the-floor disco beat (kick drum falls on each downbeat), with the hi-hat cymbal opening on the "and" of each beat, or the "upbeat," with a tempo on or near 120 beats-per-minute, constitutes what we know as the disco beat. With the era of disco taking hold around 1974 -1980, other elements were introduced and made standard. As used by Chic, lush strings, the chunking rhythm guitar, and elements of Latin and Jazz influences all added to the pot. So, a ballad that uses any mix of those elements, even without the classic beat, can give a feel of being disco. A song can fall under that umbrella simply due to its arrangement and production style. I know there was a backlash to the disco movement, but I think now many people who were its detractors in 1979 embrace the genre and recognize how great the music could be.
The Bee Gees did not like being referred to as a disco band. They vehemently denied it.
They were already working on this music when their manager Robert Stigwood needed music for the movie he was producing, Saturday Night Fever. So the songs were not written for the movie but were used in the movie.
Quincy Jones said BeeGees hit “ Fanny be Tender” is one of the best R&B songs he’s ever heard-
Definitely worth a listen- it’s amazing!
Fanny, Be Tender is actually a righteous shout-out. Regardless of R&B credentials. I like HARD TIMES by Baby Huey myself
I LOVE Fanny Be Tender!!!
They never sang it live because it was too hard to sing. The vocals are insanely good.
@@tommyroastbeef I know, too many layered tracks
No you didnt!
Perhaps not in your wheelhouse, but Barry Gibb and Barbra Streisand did a duet "Guilty " worth a listen with two fabulous voices
Terrific song!
Love that one
Amazing song
The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988.
The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born.
All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically.
Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1966. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced).
From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too th-cam.com/video/7niXSh7vWRI/w-d-xo.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: th-cam.com/video/WH_j90fCIk4/w-d-xo.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out th-cam.com/video/vfHUS5Mf00Q/w-d-xo.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: th-cam.com/video/MT9vRHSWNbk/w-d-xo.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you th-cam.com/video/CA4CInDnTk8/w-d-xo.html. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: th-cam.com/video/162GlAEpfrY/w-d-xo.html.
My belief is that most people who said they "hated" disco were those who couldn't dance. Just my opinion.
Finally, the first Bee Gees video on this channel! Congratulations!
British of course ,let's make America British again. 👍😂
Australian/British. Same thing?
They were crucified, criticized, and blackballed by critics, radio, and people for decades due to them being the face of disco. They were bitter and for good reason. They were uber talented and geniuses/
And we all know why disco was demonized…
@@thetannaree Becaue it was overplayed on the radio.

Fanny be tender. You’ll be blown away. Best harmonies ever.
Agreed! One of my favourite BeeGees songs!
Are you kidding? This song is FIRE! And every BeeGee song. You haven't done near enough of their catalog.
“Too Much Heaven” is a
Bee Gees must listen !!
“ Too much heaven!!! And guilty “those are a must
Y'all have been in the Yacht Rock groove lately. I would suggest Jive Talking or Nights on Broadway for something a little spicier.
Too Much Heaven next, please! 💯
If you really want Bee Gees disco, try their #1 song "You Should Be Dancing."
One of the most beautiful pop songs ever. Classic Brothers Gibb.
This is the best song the Bee Gees ever composed or recorded.
Period. 🤘🤘
KC and the Sunshine Band would be a good choice for some disco. Also the queen of disco Donna Summer, I Feel Love or Love To Love Ya Baby. Kool and the Gang and Earth Wind and Fire are great as well.. Lots to pick from.
Disco never dies 😊
I never considered this song to be disco.
The Moody Blues had strings about 10 years before this album
Yes! Moody Blues we’re AMAZING! Mellotron too. One of my very favorite groups! Tons of great songs & albums! ❤
@@KJ-4321 True!
Barry Gibb grrrreat songwriter and voice control!!❤
You have to listen to the original video of Fanny be tender with my love. Quincy Jones and Paul McCartney call it one of the best R&B song ever written. High praise of two of the greats.
Love Disco and the Bee Gees even more...
MORE DISCO!!!!! Bring it!!!!
I grow up with the best Group ever. Amazing Voices Amazing Song Amazing Bee Gees. Nobody can switch there Voices like the Bee Gees. I love it. 🕺🥰👍
I love The Bee Gees before and after this album.
My favorite love song of theirs was "Too Much Heaven" It always gave me chills. A great upbeat song is "Tragedy"
Too Much Heaven is the best Bee Gees song
Bee Gees 'Tragedy', upbeat like 'Staying Alive'
I feel sorry for anyone that hasn't heard the best group that ever lived. They are so very talented and sing so many genres, always reinventing themselves. I have so much love and respect for each of them. Also younger brother Andy was quite the teen throb. Bee Gees music will last forever!!
One of the greatest love songs ever written. Timeless and beautiful.
*FUN FACT*
The Bee Gees wrote the theme song to the movie GREASE (1978). Frankie Valli sang it.
Even as a metal head i can tell there’s great harmonies in this song 🤘🏻
Disco was a unique era. The Bee Gees overall were not a disco group. It was one section of their history. Delve into early BGs, I Started A Joke ... and later stuff, For Whom The Bell Tolls, etc...
Yes. Same thing with Electric Light Orchestra. Regards from Chile!
Everyone who craps on disco does it to fit in, and then goes home and dances to disco while singing into a hairbrush. Because disco is amazing.
Greatest Love song ever written.....
The brother's Gibb brilliant songwriters, their songs have been recorded by many famous artists. They just sound so good together. They were famous long before Saturday Night Fever. There is a clip on TH-cam of them covering Beatles records, you should really watch it
The Bee Bees also wrote over 100 top 10 songs for multiple artists like Diana Ross, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Rogers and more. You hear a lot of Robin in "how deep is your love" too. They are all incredible in their own way and Robin singing Fannie be Tender and I started a Lie are awesome and his voice is almost haunting. Amazingly talented family!
Fanny be Tender...
Hi Julia! Just read your comment and I’m confused! Is there a song called I started a lie AND I started a joke??
More Bee Gees please! You should be dancing and Too much heaven
Songs like this remind me of what a great time that was to be alive!
You are right, this was a two step dance (Schleicher (sneak) in german) song in disco, where the light was dimmed and couples danced close- there had no place between a sheet of paper, flirted, kissed....
Fun fact about Barrys smooth, soft voice and sleeping: Barry and M. Jackson were very close friends and by the time M couldn't fall asleep (he was having trouble sleeping) he called Barry to sing "How can you mend a broken heart" to him over the phone!!!
Coincidentally I saw a mini documentary about this album yesterday. And as Barry himself said here, this is not disco. They never saw themselves as a disco group, but were judged by the disco haters, which caused record sales to fall. But ironically they had countless hits after this with songs that they let others sing. Barry had another #1 hit album in the UK in 2021 with "Greenfields - The Gibb Brothers Songbook Vol. 1". Worth listening to.
This song is a timeless ballad and apparently the favorite song of the mother of the Brothers Gibb
They had so many hits before the disco era. They hated to be known as a disco band. They could change genre with every decade. They have number one hits in 4 decades. The rabbit hole is so deep. They have also written for so many artist and so many artist have covered their hits. Not one of the brothers can read or write music. That's what makes them even more amazing.
I watched a documentary on The Bee Gees a few years ago. In it, the brothers talked about how the group's career was starting to lag in the early to mid 1970s. There was fear the band may permanently break up or get dropped by their record label. Apparently, the brothers started paying much closer attention to the types of music that was getting played on the radio at that time. They felt that they could perform in an R&B style and gave it an effort. Given the sheer number of hit songs that The Bee Gees wrote for themselves and others, I was fascinated to learn in the documentary that the group would jot down a few song ideas and then write the lyrics, together, right there in the studio as the song was being recorded. Talk about turning in your homework at the last minute! 😀Interestingly enough, Eric Clapton took credit in the documentary for pushing the band in a more R&B direction, but while that claim was included in the program, the brothers did not confirm it in the documentary. However, in many ways, the shift in musical styles may have saved their careers.
Disco was awesome! Most people liked it but then those who liked rock began to rebel against it because they were afraid disco was going to push rock out completely.......which never happened............pop basically pushed rock to the side more than anything else. But disco was great because it allowed everyone to have a great time any time!
I like this song but I prefer the older Bee Gees songs like, "Massachusetts", "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart", "I Started A Joke" and "Lonely Days, Lonely Nights".
Yes, yes. Me too
The Bee Gees used orchestral strings and arrangements very early on in their career in the 60s. Bill Shepherd arranged their music for them because they could neither read or write music. Check out their early music - Massachusetts, To Love Somebody, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, I Started A Joke - so much great music...
Watch the movie and listen to the whole soundtrack. These songs take on a whole other level when you see the scenes in which they are part of.
Personally, I have never liked the movie
@@trudyjoejenkins9357I agree....not worth the time as not a good movie.
@@trudyjoejenkins9357I agree. It wasn't a great story, but I've watched it many times just for the incredible soundtrack. I can be flipping channels, and the songs suck me in every time. 😊
I hated disco but loved the Bee Gees because their music was in a class by itself.
I love this and the 60's Bee Gees....they have a huge catalogue of great pop songs from that decade.
The greatest of all times. GOAT 😊
amazing song and unless times change we will never hear songs like this again, the 70's is the best era of music in human history period
"Fanny (be Tender)" is THE Bee Gees song that displays an outstanding vocal arrangement and layers of harmonies like no other.
Cause we're living in a world of fools breaking us down when they all should let us be, we belong to you and me😭❤️
For a high school male this was grab azz heaven at the dances. The kind of song that would get you in trouble with the chaperones. :)
Their falsettos are beautiful. Yes we used to dance slow together at discothèques.
Many other artists had hits with songs written and/or produced by the Gibb brothers, particularly Barry.
Love this song!
Tragedy and Fanny be tender if you want more Bee Gees....If You want Disco...Donna Summers
I know the Bee Gees since 1978 and they will be hot forever!❤
Don't forget about Andy rest in peace Add a early age... The teen beat hearthrob!
The crazy thing about The Bee Gees is that they are basically a punch line in modern culture. Yet every time one of their song comes on, we're all smiling at the music the way you gents are in this video. Love your content, keep up the good work.
I think I almost choked to death. The Bee Gees took off in the 60's. There were serious hits throughout the 60's which a lot of young people completely miss. This also continued into the 70's. Then in 1977, remarkably they were asked to write a soundtrack to a proposed movie called, Saturday Night Fever. And well, as they say the rest is history! I personally prefer their early 60's music. But hey, we are talking about he Bee Gees, I will take it all!😁
This song played when Travolta was on a train, having a little alone time between jive dancing! 😅 And people who know Bee Gees love this, and every song of theirs. Like 'Too Much Heaven', 'Tragedy', 'Nights On Broadway', 'Alone' (stratospherically high falsettos by all three of them), even higher than Too Much Heaven!
The song hasn't even begun and the 3 of you are already cracking up. You Rock
Other great Bee Gees songs: "Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)" "One" "Alone" "Nights On Broadway"
All the genres from every time and style all had good and bad songs in them.
These guys and Queen and Elvis Presley, Joe Cocker, Chicago, Roy Orbison, Ray Charles, and so many others will live on in their great songs way into the future.
There are even a few women like Shirley Bassey, Aretha Franklin, and …… I’m starting to forget names now.
Most people favour the best of their growing up music… until Dimash came along…..he completely changed the ball game.
So utterly smooth. 1977 was such a big year, the music just kept coming and coming. Thanks guys
Boz Scaggs has a few songs in the classic movie Urban Cowboy which also stars John Travolta.
That whole soundtrack is awesome
I don't know what took so long to play them. One of the most incredible groups EVER! More please! Fanny be tender with my love is so mind blowing. So is love you inside out.
I think the Bee Gees stands for Brothers Gib. Listen to some of their pre-disco music. Lonely Days is a good listen. The disco era was like one big party! Lots of dancing and drinking. I am a boomer. We had the Beetles, Led Zeppelin, Motown, the Who, the Bee Gees , MJ, Neil Diamond., etc. We were blessed!
I watched the film "Saturday Night Fever", a dance melodrama, I liked the way John Travolta played, especially his dancing in this film to the music of the Bee Gees, they don't shoot this now, I recommend watching it.
There will be time to listen to "Night Fever", "More Than a Woman", "You Should Be Dancing", and of course "Stayin' Alive", I'm sure many of you have heard this song
Oh God, this is all from the same 1977, what? Disco again 😂😂😂
BeeGees is why I fell in love with disco when I was a teenager.
Disco was a great era! Those of us who lived through that time had a great time dancing to it.
I’ve always liked The Bee Gees. Some of my favorites are Tragedy, Jive Talkin, Stayin Alive, just to name a few. Theses songs that I mentioned are faster pace songs which you can dance to though. And I love disco, mainly because I like to dance. Donna Summer was a disco queen for sure. I liked Hot Stuff, I Feel Love, Bad Girls, just to name a few of hers, as well.
The Bee Gees have 5 songs on this album!!! Need to to listen to the whole album cause every song is great !!!!
Staying Alive
Night Fever
Jive Talkin
You Should Be Dancing 🕺 😂❤
Don’t forget More Than a Woman!
Long story short: my mom got tired of having to put the needle back on One Way Or Another by Blondie when I was like 6 because I wasn't allowed to touch the stereo, so I got my own turntable and speakers for my birthday that year.
I freakin' love Bee Gees and always have! I had the Saturday Night Fever album, AND Sesame Street Fever, same album cover but muppets (Grover was Travolta, c'man!). These gentlemen are my guilty pleasure, I bump these boys all the time! You Should Be Dancing has been my jam for over 40 years!
This song is a Slow Dance Song, No Disco didn't draw in the strings.. The Big Band Era brought in the Strings in Orchestras... Slow dance was very different than dancing they do today...today is just standing there be bopping or something, not real dancing. Back in my day it was Class to see a couple that could actually dance beautifully together..
Ryan may flip if y'all do Too Much Heaven by the Bee Gees. I'm as a rule I like that y'all do the studio or radio when you react. But if y'all decide to do Too Much Heaven do the live studio version where u get to see Barry expressions while singing. And Robin and Maurice back up vocals are great and there all three vocals are so together it's fantastic
This is a timeless classic and probably their best song. This song so big at the time that it was on the Billboard Top ten for a staggering 17 weeks.
They did a lot of mega hits , but just a few Disco songs .
So many Bee Gee`s hits...you must hear "Too Much Heaven" (the official video) a huge hit & they gave all the proceeds to charity. Many more..."Night Fever"; "More Than A Woman"; "Jive Talking", many more. But, check out 'Too Much Heaven" first!!!
How deep is my love? Your reactions get to me every time.
Those voices and that harmony you can't beat! Loved this movie in the 70s! ❤
While Donna Summer was the Queen of Disco, the BeeGees were the Kings. Even so, they had a long career before Disco, as well as after. Disco wasn't all about a specific beat, it was also about partner dancing, and while the clubs were playing the hard disco beats, they also played this, and we danced to it. Orchestral arrangements in popular music didn't really arrive; it was there already and kind of played backseat during the 60s (not entirely, but...) and re-emerged in the 70s. Then in the 80s it died back only to return again.
So many memories behind their music 😊
LOWDOWN is definitely disco especially when that signature flute motive enters. Do YOU SHOULD BE DANCING or TRAGEDY next 🕺🏼
MORE, MORE, MORE by the Andrea True Connection! More disco!!!
The Gibb brothers as you read earlier, started to sing together when they were six and Barry was nine. I have been a fan since I was a teenager and I’m 62 now. I have read every book about them. Listen to every interview I have almost every CD that they’ve ever come out with. For some reason even though they’ve been singing together over 50 years people still call them a disco group. And that is one thing that Barry Gibb used to get really upset about. Because Saturday night fever soundtrack was definitely when disco was popular. But they only sang disco songs maybe two or three years and they’re Scan of the time that they were together was 40 years plus. They had hits in the 60s in the 70s the 80s the 90s and even the early 2000s until Maurice passed away. If you really want to hear some of their best work, listen to some of their music from the 60s such as I can’t see nobody, to love somebody, world, Spicks and specks. You will be pleasantly surprised.❤
My All time favorite band!!! EVER
When you finally have someone you love more than life itself in your own life, and you listen to the words of this song, there is no greater song on earth. This is literally the most beautiful song ever written when you have the face of your partner in your mind.
Some of the Bee Gees songs were Disco...Most all are Loved today because they are timeless. There was Disco music back in the day that was pretty cheesy and played in small nightclubs, but The Bee Gees Wasn't one of them....A lot of Disco back in my day was just Dance music..not a whole lot of singing. The Bee Gees songs will live on in the memories of the past and in the future Memories yet to be made. A certain Genre of people liked MJ, a certain Genre of people liked the Beatles, A certain Genre of People like Country but I can't think of any race, any gender, any age, any Genre of music fans that do not like The Bee Gees. I'm hitting 80 and went to Woodstock. My favorite music is The Eagles, CCR, Hendrix, Garth Brooks, Sam Cooke, Boz Scaggs and The Bee Gees....
They had some great songs in the disco era which I love, but I do prefer their earlier hits. My favorite song of theirs though is actually the title track from their album "Spirits Having Flown". Love that song!
Their later more R&B influenced has overshadowed their early work. But they have a whole catalog of great music starting with hits in the late 60s that were more pop/rock oriented. But they've always loved R&B. They actually originally wrote their first big hit To Love Somebody for Otis Redding before his tragic plane crash.
Those boys could sure write songs. 'You Should be Dancing' is a great one from the album. Lots going on in it and Barry hits you with both the falsetto and his stronger lower voice. It's a great performance.
Kings of the Disco Ballads
This isn’t disco, but it’s definitely from the disco era...and one of the prettiest ballads of that time. Try Jive Talkin’ for a great funky cut.
This song is used as background music in the final scenes of Saturday Night Fever.
I'm sure there have been countless weddings where this was the first track played for the bride and groom to dance to. Obviously it's a slow dance guys! When you fall in love you will understand.
