Yeah I know a few commercial fishermen that has lost fingers too…bringing up a ( what we call ) green marlin can go south in a blink…you’re leaders are 300-500 lb test…it doesn’t give up nothing for fingers or hands if you don’t get pulled in…

Wrapping it around your hand is the biggest mistake you will ever make that’s a quick way to get pulled into the water
There's a right way and a wrong way to take wraps
You gotta know when to let go. When you do, stick your hand straight out towards the line, leaving no resistance for the line to unspool from your hand

I would love to catch a great fish like that take my photo with it put it right back in the water. Let someone else enjoy that feeling of the catch down the road.
Fun fact. Marlin that size usually die before you get them to the boat. They are known to fight so hard they’ll go into cardiac arrest. It’s gnarly but after a while you’re just feeling dead weight. At least the fish we would regularly catch that where 600+ Hawaii has a great marlin bite. Smaller ones you can usually get a good release but you gotta keep them in the water

Almost every fish is tagged and released of course.
Watch him quickly double check the leader isnt wrapped around the rod tip. Pro's.
