    LENS REVIEW GANG!!!!!!! I like the video. It's very informative and your rig is gorgeous.

    What do you guys think of the format for my lens reviews? Real-world point of view first then tech specs. Also, I know many of you might not like the flaring or the soft edges at T2. If you stop down to T2.8 - T4 for it'll sharpen up. Using a mattebox will greatly reduce the flaring with top/side flags. This lens review was how I use it - so keep that in mind.

      I like your approach, specially that you use real footage from projects that you do. Not as some people, like Mateo Bertolli, that says he is a DOP with a lot of work, but all he uses is footage of his girlfriend. Or other "filmmakers" out there that usually use family footage, because actually have no other. I like this SLR magic, seems like a nice lens. I have 3 Voigtlanders, 10.5 25 and 42.5, missing only 17.5 for a full set. Here is some fresh work from me :) th-cam.com/video/ulb1g2tyEm4/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks for producing the review JM; Ultimately your findings show this as a situation/creative piece of glass. I am always worried about being locked in to a lens that has "creative" looks built-in to them. I know a lot of people hate glass that seem clinical, sharp, and boring; but I feel that aspect of having a super clean image allows more flexibility and creativity with that image, via filters, in post, etc... I still pre-ordered the the 25mm APO; images look great; just worried that I may not get the most out of it at the current buy in rate.

    • @joshuamartinstudios
      @joshuamartinstudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching Regi. Thanks a great point that you make. It is important to have a variety of lenses that you know how and when to use them. The APOs are a much more refined lens and leans on the clinical look as opposed to the microprimes. I hope the lens ships soon!

    Nice review. For handheld, 25 is a bit too narrow for me, but it would be a good for my tripod shots. The bloom in the shot was a bit much for my taste, but I'm not sure how the SLR Magic compares to other lenses with the same conditions. Did you try with and without the Tilta top flag blocking the light?

    • @joshuamartinstudios
      @joshuamartinstudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your thoughts! other comparations will come later on. I purposely didn't use the top flag of the mattebox on those shoots so that I can see how the lens performs in a "raw" state. but the top flag does reduce the amount of flare coming in. If you watch my review on the tilta mattebox you can see examples there.

    Would this lens be better at low light than the Meike 25mm?

    • @joshuamartinstudios
      @joshuamartinstudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Low light is such a loaded topic. In this case T2 on the SLR magic 25mm yields better results than at T1.5 - but in comparison to the Meike at T2.2 the difference will be the sharpness. So depending on the camera you are using - low will be depended on the camera in my opinion.

    What are the major differences between Slr Magic MicroPrime cine 25 T1.5 and the SLR Magic HyperPrime 25 T0.95? which do you recommend for a small indi film maker/ commercials?

    • @joshuamartinstudios
      @joshuamartinstudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recently just sold my 25mm T0.95. I would consider that a specialty lens. It's unique because of that fast T stop of T0.95 on a MFT Sensor which is T1.4 depth of field wide open.
      It's small and great for very light setup. It's a modern vintage look. Similar to the microprimes
      It has its down falls of being very soft until T2.8 but it's how you use it.
      I think the microprime is a better upgrade in term of image quality, build and consistent size in the lineup
      I would recommend the microprimes T1.5 for commercial and Indi films.

      The Micro Prime lenses are full frame as the E Mount versions have shown, SLR Magic just happen to also make them in crop sensor mounts Fuji X for APS-C & MFT for MFT (obviously). But it's worth pointing out that a few of their lenses at the wider end such 12mm only have MFT coverage.

    is the 25 mm wide enough for mft ? or 12 mm is better ? and what do you think of meike cine lenses.

    • @joshuamartinstudios
      @joshuamartinstudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 25mm field of view on the pocket is 47.5mm roughly. So it's a standard FOV.
      The 12 will be wider.
      The meike lenses a good price. It's a clinical look good for corporate work or if you looking for a cleaner image with less flaring and blooming

    You say you would use tge 25mm on the X-H1 and now you say you also use it for t
    MFT also most of the time. Shouldnt be the field of view be a bit wider on APS-C with 25mm? Why do u like it for both setups?

    • @joshuamartinstudios
      @joshuamartinstudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the SLR magic microprime line comes in MFT, Xmount, EF (APO only) and e mount. Yes I have the xh1 and use the xmount microprimes for that camera. Yes the field of view is wider on the APSC - I both options as individual aesthetics as I use either camera system. The 25mm MFT acts differently than the Xmount.

      @@joshuamartinstudios interesting. Thx for your answer. I need an camera update to get a little bit more professional. I was really hoping for the x-t4 recording 10bit in h.264 but they still just do it in h.265 which is horrible to work wit and the extra step of making proxys would be a bit too annyoing. GH5 might be old but maxbe still the only option for my prefernces. I love Fuji colors though. Maybe the BMPCC 4K would be an option as well, but Im scared if its reliable enough for me and not much for run and gun.

    • @joshuamartinstudios
      @joshuamartinstudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question and I'm actually working on a video about that. But there are 3 key differences between the microprimes and hyperprimes. 1. The microprimes have a more uniformed and consistent design with gear placement, 82mm front thread and internal focusing. 2. the optics have a better performance at wider T stops vs a soft T0.95 in the hyperprimes. 3. the micro line up comes in several different mounts now, xmount, mft, EF (APO) and Emount.
