Finally a video with some recommended lenses! Thanks so much for this, I've been wrecking my brain trying to figure out which lens or lenses with be ideal for me. I just bought this camera and I'm waiting on it to ship sometime this week. I've dabbled in photography quite a bit over the years and I was using a canon T6i but I wanted to move over into cinematography. The image quality coming from this camera is just amazing. I'm sold on the first two lenses you discussed but I'll wait it out on the third one due to the metabones being required (not trying to break the bank here lol.) Sorry for the long response but this video made my day. Again thank you.
I have the 12 - 35 Panasonic. The problem with this lens for video is that it has a fly by wire focus system which makes it almost impossible to pull focus manually. The throw will change on you. FBW may be great for still photography where you need to focus on something quickly but if you are looking for that smooth manual focus this is not the lens to buy. It works if you are just making videos with very short clips of something already in focus, but you are definitely not going to be able to focus track something or rack focus. Great lens but this is problem is huge for me since I want to start pulling manual focus and because BMPCC 4K does not have true AF. Sure you can press the AF button but that just gets you into focus versus being able to track focus an object. Hope this makes sense and helps. I'm going for some Cinema lenses.
I have now had my pocket 4K for almost a year and I have the 18 x 35 Sigma, Sigma 50 mm³ prime, sigma 100 to 400 mm, but my absolute favorite and most versatile is my sigma 24 to 105 mm. I use it with a meta-bones speed booster . And while I love the 18 x 35 I found it for most of my use the 24 to 105 is much more versatile. I’ve kind of become spoiled and only bought the art series lenses from CIGNA for my camera and I’ve been very very happy.
The 3 best lenses for BMPCC4K would be: 1. 12-35mm lumix 2.8 as the most universal lens with stabilization 2. Laowa or 7artisans 7.5mm 2.8 wide angle lens 3. 35mm or 50mm 1.4 fast lens for portraits and low light shots.
Agree that the 12-35 is a very versatile lens and the OIS is particularly good. I have the Mark II version. I also use Voigtlander 17.5 and 25, two vey nice lenses built like tanks and very smooth focus and iris controls. I need to find more time to use my gear
Well done. I love the quality you can get with relatively inexpensive lenses. Though you can definitely tell the quality improvement when using the Ursa and Sigma together.

At 3:36 there's a ton of banding on the walls---is that avoidable? Frankly I've seen this in scenes made professionally, i've seen it in Better Call Saul etc....i don't understand the science behind its appearance as opposed to an infinite falloff or at least far more gradual falloff of light...can someone explain or guide me to a link?

Hi, question. I’m new to this pocket cinema. I have the 4k. My question is, does it matter what kind of style I buy for the sigma? You can use any MFT mount to EF lens mount! But I tried using the Sigma 18-35mm with the bmp4k and it left a noticeable vignette around all videos I shot at 18mm. Horrible. Would recommend renting the lens out before buying it :/

I have both the BMPCC4K and a GH5. Hands down the image quality of the BlackMagic is more pleasing and cinematic to my eyes. However, one weird oversight is that the GH5 can do a 6K anamorphic image, but the BlackMagic does not do any anamorphic recording. They decided to go with a sensor aspect that just can't do it. And that's a bit disappointing since the anamorphic video from the GH5 looks amazing. So, if things like anamorphic doesn't matter, and you can figure out a power solution since the batteries last about 35-40 minutes, then I'd say go for the BlackMagic. But the GH5 is a much better hybrid camera that takes very nice stills as well. I guess the bottom line is that the GH5 is an out of the box film-making beast. The BlackMagic PCC4K is even better for film making, but save some money for some extra stuff that you'll want to complete the kit. No IBIS and a fixed screen is kind of a bummer, but adding that stuff would have added $1000 to the price and made it a more difficult purchase decision. But the footage is worth it!!
Cool video, do you still have the 4k with 12-35? I am experiencing a weird F-Stop change on my lens whem I zoom in, even though it is constant aperture lens, can you confirm?
An option for the FD would be to use it with a focal reducer. Likewise an M42 adapter or focal reducer could be useful. I have only an EOS-M but I often use it for video with either an adapter or focal reducer with old Soviet lenses; Mir 1B, Helios 44, Jupiter 9, Jupiter 11A and Jupiter 21M.
Have you ever used the Olympus 12-40mm PRO at all? I've heard some people found it better in comparison with Lumix 12-35... however I do konow that it does not have OIS. Awesome video btw!
I d like to ask about the adapter FD-M4/3 . Why d you prefer work with this 'cheap'' solution instead with a much more pricey Metabone? Whats yje difference between the two ways ( apart the price) ? thank you in advance.
I’ve had metabones before and they are nice but the FD lenses don’t have any autofocus or electronic components so a cheap mechanical adapter is all I needed :). Cheers
Funny. For my BMPCC4K, I have the Lumix 12-60mm f2.8, the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8. Love the Sigma. I also have the Lumix 25mm f1.4, the Sigma 50mm MACRO f2.8, and the Olympus 40-150mm f4-5.6 lenses. I feel like I'm ready for almost anything.
I do have Metabones and I bought because planty of review this Sigma lens. You're right: sooo bad, that is have no OIS. But on ANY other segment, THIS is THE LENS for the BMPCC4K in my eyes till today. Yeah: the weight problem. First took an hour to balance this on a gimbal. I used an Atmos screen to balance it with it's weight.....
I’m totally new to owning a bmpcc4k, would you recommend the sigma as a first lens for narrative/documentary work? Would it need a cage or support when mounted to the camera? Thanks
@@thomascoraggio8345 Well, I'm not sure today, that is this the best choice of the market. What I can say, garanteed, you will have a very nice, crisp, sharp image with it. Cage or support isn't neccessary. But don't forget, that the Metabones itself is it! And you cannot count on any cheaper speed boosters.
your video are INCREDIBLE. amazingly stylish. i'm upgrading to BMPCC4K from my Canon T3i's soon! could you please tell me what simple lens adapter i would need for my eos lenses?
I have the Sigma 18-35 and considering selling it for the Panasonic 12-35 to use the Pocket 4K. If you had to only pick one of these which one would you go with? Of course I will lose a couple of stops of light but I will gain image stabilization.
Hello i hesitating a little, i have 12-35 f2.8 (still waiting for my camera) do you think i need a sigma 18-35 f2.8 with focal reducer? Very similar focal range with lumix 12-35, just much better bokeh. Not more important a prime fast lens? What you think?
Hi, I would still go with the Lumix 12-35 2.8 as it has IS and it a great lens to start with. The bokeh is still pleasant on the Lumix. I would get the 12-35 and maybe a fast prime on the side so you have both options maybe. Depends what you intend to shoot as well.
Honestly from what I’ve seen, the bokeh is debatably looks better on the panny. It’s just the fact you can create more bokeh because the sigma is faster.
I purchased the sigma 18-35 mm for $747 on Amazon but does not fit onto my bmpcc . I know I need an adapter which one are you referring because when clicking on the link their are multiple brands
Your videos always look damn sharp - not video sharp but cinematic sharp! It's beautiful although I can't figure out which codec you render your videos to make them look so sharp on youtube???
Haha, I knew you'd finally get into vlogs man !! Can't wait to see your first one hehe :) And no I don' think so, the bmpcc4k is probably not a good vloqging camera. Reliable auto focus and flippy screen would be better.
I am loving the olympus 12-100 f4 on my bmpcc 4k at the moment for wildlife and nature, thinking of getting an adapter to mount my nikon primes too (they are presently on my bmpcc original with metabones speedbooster)
@@chrisrichtermindset It’s gone wonderfully! It’s not the most reactive focus pull, but the focus is very sharp when it’s in. Depth of field is surprisingly nice when in the 25-35mm range, and towards the 12mm range, basically the whole world can be kept nicely in focus. Very clean image. Very little lens-specific character. Super solid build. Would certainly recommend.
Is the IS on the Lumix 12-35 better than on the Leica 12-60? I kinda like the last one better. Any other good stabilized lenses for video? I am also considering to get a speedbooster and maybe go for a stabilized fullfram zoom (Canon, Tamron, Sigma 24-70). IS seems essential with this camera.
The IS on the 12-35 is fine. Haven't used the 12-60 long enough to compare though. I like the 12-35 for the constant aperture. I use Canon full frame lenses on my C200 and I really like them. Especially the 24-70 f4 IS for video work.
I have the sigma 18-35 1.8, voigh 17, pentax super takmar super multi coated 50 1.4 and may pick up a rokinon 85mm later on. Still need a wide wide. Sigma does give me a 24mm full frame equivalent with the speedbooster but may also pick up a voigtlander 10mm of I'm not too broke lol
@OfTwoLands haha it's the camera I cant figure out, I still rock a Panasonic G6... I really like the bmpcc4k but I really want ibis because I love vintage lenes. I hate Sony color, so that leaves me with gh5 or bmpcc4k. Just waiting for a project so I can rent to see how I like it.
Hello, I have a newbie question here. Quite often you put your rig at an angle on your table with the lens hood and lens supporting the weight of the camera. That is totally safe to do? I tried it once and the give of the lens against the body was kinda worrying. Its no problem to do so?
I am thinking of buying the “Blackmagic pocket 4k” camera, with the “Lumix 12-35 F2.8 II” lens, but this lens is not parafocal. Can you answer the next question? Imagine that (without recording) I put the focal point “tele” -35mm and focus on a subject, and then I zoom in to the “wide” -12 mm position. Now I press the record button and I move the zoom smoothly until I reach the “tele” position -35 mm, and stop recording. The clip I have recorded would show a distant subject that is gradually approaching until it reaches the maximum approach. Would the shot be focused from beginning to end? Best regards
Paco Bartolomé too easy. Just get the Panasonic 12-60 2.8-4. It’s parfocal and have is. What kind of shoot that you need to zoom in between recording? Even it parfocal do you even need to ruining the frame doing that?
Man i love the videos you made at the beginning with the Lumix 12-35mm F2.8 and also the soundtrack!! What do you think about the Lumix G X Vario (35 mm -100 mm, f/2.8) for aroun 900 bucks, should i buy it? I am ew to this and would love to get some powerful footage without a gimbal at the beginning. Would you recommend it? Or do you think the sigma is better to start with, for shooting some crazy high quality nature videos with mountains? Thanks in advance! I really love the video with the soundtrack!
How is the BMPCC 4k with the 12-35mm OIS 1 gen for run and gun in 4k? Does it get jittery? Toiling between a BMPCC 4k for run and gun and a 14-24mm for my Sigma fp.
Hi! I tried using the SIGMA18-35mm with the blackmagic pocket 4k, and there was a vignette around the corners! This marred a shoot I was getting paid to do. What happened here? Why did this happen?
Salut Flo! Petite question pour toi. Je cherche un Lumix 12-35 d'occas et j'hésite entre le MK1 et 2. J'ai vu pas mal de critique d'un genre de "flicker" lors de zoom avec le 12-35 MK1. Tu as déjà eu ce souci?
Cheers :)
Do you think it’s worth it to go for the 12-35 Mark II over the mark I? Also, is the stabilization pretty reliable? I have an adapted ef lens (Tamron 24-70 G2) through the metabones that has in-lens stabilization but it’s not great. Lots of weird wobbles and delayed movements when paired with the P4K. Just wondering if using a native mount lens is more reliable for in-lens stabilization. Thanks for the video. Your work is excellent.
12-35mm in M43 is equal to 24-70mm in full frame. It makes sense why you choose the second lens( Canon 24): 24*2=48 very close to full frame camera 50mm prime lens
@@TheJ_G Thank you, glad you like my work :). I haven't tried the Mark II yet and so far the Mark I has been more than fine. I tend to choose native lenses when possible, not a big fan of adapters.
Tricky. I think so yeah. I have owned both and I don’t miss the 17-55 and I couldn’t get rid of my 18-35 so I guess that answers the question. I just love the sigma. But if you’re after one lens only then the 17-55 is a great lens and has IS as well.

Thanks for the video. Love your channel. I’ve seen a few warnings about micro jitters while using the 12-35 on the P4K. I’m curious if you’ve had issues with that? Also, for the FD 28mm - are you able to adjust the aperture on that lens? I bought the FD 70-210 and it seems to have a locked aperture. I’m using the K&F Concept FD to M4/3 Lens Mount Adapter. Any insight you could offer would be so appreciated. Thanks, and keep up the great work.
Thanks for watching :) !! I have never experienced this honestly. It's not the best lens in the world but pretty much all my work was done with it when using the P4K. You can definitely change the aperture for the FD but on the lens directly of course.I just won't show on the camera.
I want to use two off these lenses on the Panasonic Gh5s and gh5 when I purchase them. I am looking to purchase the Panasonic Gh5s first and the Panasonic gh5 and Panasonic S1 after. Then the Nikon D750 and Nikon D5600 to add to my already owned Nikon D5500. On the Canon side I am going to purchase the Canon 90D and 80D. And the Fuji xt3
Depends on the thread of the lens. Or you mean the intensity ?

The BlackMagic PCC4K is even better for film making, but save some money for some extra stuff that you'll want to complete the kit. No IBIS and a fixed screen is kind of a bummer, but adding that stuff would have added $1000 to the price and made it a more difficult purchase decision.
But the footage is worth it!!
Cool video, do you still have the 4k with 12-35? I am experiencing a weird F-Stop change on my lens whem I zoom in, even though it is constant aperture lens, can you confirm?
Great channel. Thanks for all the content. Love your delivery style too. I am curious about how the Helios renders bokeh on a MFT sensor?
Thank you !! I have never used the Helios, but seen so many good things shot with them.
Thanks, any chance of a Cine Lens that has OIS and competes with 12/35?
I doubt it, that would be the ultimate lens haha !!
Lumix 12mm 1,4 is my favorite lens.
Have you ever used the Olympus 12-40mm PRO at all? I've heard some people found it better in comparison with Lumix 12-35... however I do konow that it does not have OIS. Awesome video btw!
The Olympus 12-40mm is my most used lens on the BMPCC 4K. It looks good to me. My next most used is the Meike 16mm cinema lens.
@@jimwoodgina9604 as a first lens which one should I go for? The 12-40mm or 16mm meike. Thanks
Cheers
@@OfTwoLands Thanks so much.
Great video, always look forward to your insights on this amazing camera, keep it coming!
Perspective Caribbean Thanks so much for watching :) !!
your video are INCREDIBLE. amazingly stylish. i'm upgrading to BMPCC4K from my Canon T3i's soon! could you please tell me what simple lens adapter i would need for my eos lenses?
Thanks a lot !! You just need an EF to M43 adapter like this : amzn.to/2Kh1Iwy
I have the Sigma 18-35 and considering selling it for the Panasonic 12-35 to use the Pocket 4K. If you had to only pick one of these which one would you go with? Of course I will lose a couple of stops of light but I will gain image stabilization.
Definitely the 12-35mm for the pocket 4K :). Can’t beat it for IS, range, size and weight.
18-35 1.8 with metabone will be 25-50 1.2. it is in 4 times lighter than 12-35(24-70) 2.8
Thanks a lot !! I just chose the FCPX youtube export settings (h264, mov).
What’s the best lens for the magic if you want to zoom in with great quality still from about a 6ft distance?
Is the bmpcc any good as a vlog camera? Thanks
Haha, I knew you'd finally get into vlogs man !! Can't wait to see your first one hehe :)
And no I don' think so, the bmpcc4k is probably not a good vloqging camera. Reliable auto focus and flippy screen would be better.
@GREGORY DEARMOND Haha cheers Greg (was joking btw). Imagine the workflow for editing 4k RAW vlog footage.
3 favourite lenses for the BMPCC4K. never used 3rd lens with the camera and showed it on a different camera all together hahaha
I was about to say the very same...
I am loving the olympus 12-100 f4 on my bmpcc 4k at the moment for wildlife and nature, thinking of getting an adapter to mount my nikon primes too (they are presently on my bmpcc original with metabones speedbooster)
pandanus creek films that would be my first choice. You couldn't get more versatile than that. Weather sealed and stabilized too.
Is it possible to use the old bmpcc sb adapter on the bmpcc4k?
But the F stop on Lumix 12-35mm F2.8 - is equal to 5.6 right?
I have a question, does Pentax lenses works on blackmagic 4k or not?
I can use Panasonic MFT lenses (25 mm 14 mm or zoom ) on BMCP4K? thanks!
Do they all require adapters? Which ones?
Thank you for this video! The LUMIX 12-35mm is en route to my house now ❤️✨🙌🏻
Woohoo, have fun :) !!
Hey man how has LUMIX held up for you? I appreciate the feedback.
@@ChristopherCopeland No adapter with this 12-35 with the pocket 4K?
Thanks
@@2020-k8v no adapter for this one, at least! All the LUMIX seem to fit perfectly
Especially the 24-70 f4 IS for video work.
there is also a Sigma EF-S 17-50 constant 2.8 stabilized, super cheap
@@hav6301 I know that the Viltrox will not take EF-S lenses though, dont know about the metabones speedbooster.
NIce video! Would be good to see an upgraded version of this video
Thanks !! Might have to do one indeed :)
yes please!
Nice one, those are all beautiful lenses. I have heard good things about the Voigtlander 10mm.
i'm thinking i'm going to go with the loawa 7.5
@@danjones4002 Seems like a good lens, quite small too.
I own the laowa 7.5, image quality is very good.
Do you have used the Olympus 12-100 f4 (with or whithout bmpcc4k) ?
Hello, I have a newbie question here. Quite often you put your rig at an angle on your table with the lens hood and lens supporting the weight of the camera. That is totally safe to do? I tried it once and the give of the lens against the body was kinda worrying. Its no problem to do so?
It is safe yes but of course it depends on the rig and lens. I wouldn't leave it for hours or days like this though.
Man... the footage coming from the combo Pana lens / Bmpcc4k is insane!!!
Yeah it’s pretty spectacular for the price !!
Great content, well done.
Thank you !!
Where can I watch Anthropocene short film?

@@OfTwoLands Haha didnt notice link in description 😅
I would like to see how a good PL 50mm lens looks on this critter.
So bro which would you Recommend for weddings or general purpose use
For the 4K the 12-35 is hard to beat :)
Wouldn't the Lumix 12-35mm F2.8 get the 2x crop from the bmpcc4k?
Pedro Penteado Yep which makes it a 24-70, perfect :)
Killer video...what lens would you use to go really wide?
I would say the Laowa 7.5mm or 9mm :)
@@OfTwoLands cheers mate 🍻
How is the BMPCC 4k with the 12-35mm OIS 1 gen for run and gun in 4k? Does it get jittery? Toiling between a BMPCC 4k for run and gun and a 14-24mm for my Sigma fp.
Works really well :). That’s the lens I used most on the bmpcc4k.
Where and How can I buy one of these lenses......
Hi! I tried using the SIGMA18-35mm with the blackmagic pocket 4k, and there was a vignette around the corners! This marred a shoot I was getting paid to do. What happened here? Why did this happen?
Q: Any recommendations for how bmpcc users can get 28mm? (Original bmpcc has a 2.88 crop, so 12-35mm = 34.5-100.8mm)
Look at the Llaowa/Venus Optics 9mm - one of my personal favorites. That or the Tokina 11-20
Where can I get the adapter for canon lens to bmpcc 4k? What’s the adapter called ?
Hi, I have used this one for my FD lenses : amzn.to/2HlWYTy
What does Sigma 18mm-35mm equivalent to on the Black Magic 4k since it will need an adapter?
1,5 x so i think something like 27-44
I’ve been enjoying the Sigma 30mm MFT lens. Thanks for another great video!

Wich ND Filter do you use with the Lumix 12-35

You mean the first bmpcc or the bmpcc4k?
Of Two Lands the first BMPCC
Of Two Lands Or just with a meike 16mm cine lens?

I tend to choose native lenses when possible, not a big fan of adapters.
what lens mount it has?
Hi mate,, Which lens are good for black magic mini Ursa g2 4.6k..i I would like shoot videos and feature film.. thanks
Would you recommend the 18-35 Sigma over the 17-55 Canon 2.8?
Tricky. I think so yeah. I have owned both and I don’t miss the 17-55 and I couldn’t get rid of my 18-35 so I guess that answers the question. I just love the sigma. But if you’re after one lens only then the 17-55 is a great lens and has IS as well.
@@OfTwoLands thank you. The 35 end is just a little too little for me. Having to switch lenses during live events is a pain also. So I may have to try the Canon. Thanks again. Great videos
I tried using the Sigma 18-35mm with the bmp4k and it left a noticeable vignette around all videos I shot at 18mm. Horrible. Would recommend renting the lens out before buying it
Dang you at 20k subs now! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

But 12-35mm lumix 2.8 is not working with metabones/viltrox speedbooster.
The lumix is a native mft lens 👍
How do you compare Meike brand lenses to these ones? Better, worse, about the same? Thanks!
The Meike are cinema lenses so completely different. It depends more on what you shoot. Cheers

Awesome! Are you still in Sydney? we should meet up for beers :)
I live in Sydney yeah but going overseas in a couple of days so maybe when I come back :)

Depends on the thread of the lens. Or you mean the intensity ?
I mean, what should be the diameter of a variable ND filter for that lens you mentioned in the video, the Canon FD 28mm 2.8. I was searching on Google and someone said it had to be the 55mm ND filter. Do you use an nd filter with this lens?
