- Today I am going share with you my thoughts on the SLR Magic mircoprimes for the fuji xmount and which are my favorite to work with.
Disclaimer: SLR Magic did loan me these lenses, however, I am giving my personal thoughts on the set. As most of you already know, I use SLR Magic for my professional work and my films. I know where the strength and weaknesses are for the lenses.
I mainly use my XH1 for stills, but I have used it on a few projects. It is my B camera for my camera reviews to my BMPCC4K.
Across all of the microprimes - MFT, E mount, and xmount, they all have similar characteristics and of course, FOV will change depending on the camera system. I am excluding the APO microprimes because those are different optically.

-- WHICH LENSES DO I USE THE MOST? --
12mm with an 18mm FOV - I really enjoy using wide-angle lenses, and I feel the 18mm is too tight for me. The 15mm is surprisingly a sleeper. It's the best of both worlds in this lineup. Don't let that T3.5 fool you, it still lets in a lot of light.
But for this I would pick the 12mm because I like the extreme wide look.
I've used the 25mm the most, both with the MFT and xmount. For the xmount it's roughly a 37.5mm FOV, in comparison to the 35mm, you are edging on to the 50mm FOV. The 25mm and 35mm have similar flares characteristics, but I would choose the 25mm.
Lastly the for 50 and 75mm, the 50mm is the fastest T stop of the set and it's a great mid close range lens.

Nice review! Between Meike cine X mount and SLR Magic X, which do you prefer? I have MFT Meike Cine T2.2 lens for MFT & Im new to Fuji. Thinking what is the difference in detail on the characteristics of Meike X mount vs SLR Magic X mount on Fujifilm? (xh1)

Wish they would release these in EF so that they could be used on Ursa/ BM6k. I'm waiting on my last contax zeiss lens to come in then I will have a full set of 18, 21, 28, 35, 50, 85, 135 and cinemoded/converted to ef mounts. Great look, but I love the idea of these for quick / safe shoots.

The meike line is a good lens. but there are some major characteristics difference like flaring, sharpness, and color. I hope to do a comparison soon.

Hey! Great video, wanted to ask, does the lens communicate with the camera body since it's an X mount? Can I use focus peaking with these lenses on the xt 4?
Thanks for watching! and now it does not. there is no metadata for the lenses. what you can do is set the camera to read the proper focal length. and yes you can sent peaking once you switch to manual focus on the front of the camera.

@@joshuamartinstudios I sold a bunch of vintage photo lenses because I was tired of their terrible T values and using them in a video ecosystem was a bit of a pain. I only kept my Sigma 18-35 (which I don't really like but it's versatile and good light gathering) and the Super Takumar 28 f3.5 (but gathers light like the sigma at f5.6) because of its rendering of colors. I will sell them both once I get my hands on a good set of Cine Lenses.
It's hard to find something that is not overly expensive, has great colors and details rendition without being too clinical.

Thanks for watching bro! I haven't tried the Meike lenses. But it really depends on the character that you want. Slr magic lenses have more character than meike. How it flares, blooms, bokeh, etc.

Great video, really interesting but personally totally another choice. For me the best combo is 18+35+75 - 2 questions : SLR Magic are really better than Meike Cine TT2.2 for Fujixmount ? - SLR are ok with Apsc AND Super 35 like BMPPC6K and Pro? If Yes it's perfect for the price - Thanks
Question is how do you define better? Meikes are more clinical in my opinion. SLR magic has personality.
Yes the Microprimes for MFT and xmount cover super 35mm. The Emount and EF cover full frame

Optical properties will be the same Sony E? How strong is the 12mm vignetting on a full frame?
Correct - as for as vignetting I don't remember if there is from my time with the lenses
So I'm assuming the field of view changes on Fuji can you focus them by hand or can you only use a follow Focus

Would you agree that the EF mount versions are the best investment overall? They cover full frame and can be adapted to other mounts.
Yes I would agree - that's the route I'm moving towards. But not everyone sees the value of dropping $1500 on a lens. 🤷🏽♂️ especially a good one like the APO Microprimes
But in the other hand - a native cine lens has added benefit too and durability in most cases. Wouldn't you say?
Yeah I suppose, smaller and lighter than the EF versions, but I think the versatility of an EF mount can't be beat. If you get a chance, it would be interesting to see a comparison against the very popular Rokinon/Samyang cine lenses. These seem to be the closest thing to the Microprimes.

Question: Does the SLR Magic 8mm f4 fit on the Xt3?
Unfortunately it does not. It's only a MFT lens. The widest lens SLR Magic has for fuji xmount is the 12mm! I've made test footage of it!
Hello! I just bought a 50 mm SLR magic, but when I put it on my Fuji Xt4 it doesn't record. The image is perfect and also all the functions. I have tried with other lenses and it records normally. I don't know if you can help me to find out what the problem is. Thank you
Have you set to "Shoot without lens"? It's a setting.
Hey man, what’s the benefit of going with a cine lens as opposed to regular Fuji lenses.
Great question! 1. cine lenses provide proper gearing for follow focus and precise focusing with longer focus throws. 2 character, cine lenses vary when it comes to lens characteristics but cine lenses tent to look more organic vs digital video. Highlights aren't has harsh or as contrasty.

Thank for watching! It's a $600 ~ lens, it will breath. How bad ? Depends on your taste. Cine lenses at this price point do compromise a few things
@@joshuamartinstudios Thank you for the quick resonse, i agree, we can't have it all for the price. However I'm doubting between this or the Meike cine primes. Meike is half the price, nearly no focus breathing. But 300degree focus pull which is loooong. Harddd decisionns.

Slr Magic has more of a vintage look and feel. Is more clinical less unique.

Yeah...SLR magic doesn't thave the best naming for marketing. Did I misspeak in the video?
@@joshuamartinstudios Nah, you're good. This vid for the Microprimes came out right as the APO Microprimes were finally released (announced in Nov, of course), ergo I was just underscoring the potential confusion for folks who are new to SLR Magic's cine lens lineups.
I just realised halfway through that you're not going to tell us if these lenses hook up electronically with the bodies. You do have to remember there are still shooters looking at this.
