The rancher father who you said was "going for an oscar" was a fairly well known character actor in the 50s through the 70s, Neville Brand. He was a highly decorated WW2 vet and was in 136 TV shows and films, usually westerns, film noir and war movies. He often played a very menacing heavy but he was the lead in the tv western series Laredo which lasted two seasons in the mid 1960s. The quality of cast that was put together for the film is quite impressive, most are past their prime but there are quite a few well known actors here.
I was looking forward to the explanation of a Fax Machine too :( Then the explanation of what a POTS is, and then the sound of Cecil crying in a corner hugging his collection of VHS tapes.

And to think, in High School I had a photography class where I worked in a darkroom to develop my own picture on black-and-white film with my grandfather's old black-and-white camera (a requirement for the class, bring your own black-and-white camera, my grandfather had given me his just a few years earlier). Actually turned out very helpful when, at a museum exhibit with my folks, the film in our camera broke and used my dad's jacket to cover the camera and film, stuck my arms through the sleeves, and fixed it. In the class, we had what was basically a zip-up bag with sleeves, or a jacket without neck and waist holes, so you could unload your exposed footage without exposing it to light and get it ready to develop.
I swear every damn time I see Jan Michael Vincent I get so fucking sad. The guy had so much promise, but he just couldn't break free of his addictions and demons.

Man I love Without Warning, I need to catch this one. Uninvited was one that I always saw the cover for on VHS and never rented, and what a treat it is.
Even before you talked about Jan Michael Vincent's issues I got really uncomfortable seeing him with all the beer bottles. Felt really on the nose. I am glad you didn't use a picture of him in his later years. For anyone that didn't know, he looked absolutely awful in his final years. It was truly sad.
I think the heavy beer drinking wasn't part of the sheriff's character, just JMV doing his thing. I find it really sad what happened to him in the end.
I've never thought of these videos as mocking the movies in each episode but I can see how some people could. If they can't laugh then follow Hootie's advice, let em cry

I can't emphasize enough how grateful I am for that episode, because I was looking for that movie for 20 years without knowing its very generic title! Now I can finally rewatch it! It's an unusual blend of sci-fi and slasher which was just stuck with me for all these years, with no answers. It's shocking how vividly I remember this movie considering I was like 7 years old when I saw it: an ID request I posted on one forum had like 80% of the plot right down to a description of the first human casualty. I was actually impressed by the movie enough that I tried my best to do a replica of that lightsaber-style knife out of some random acrylic thing. The movie was and is from perfect, but it has enough charm and creativity to stand out. I think I'll also actually try donuts and beer. I did weirder.
@@GoodBadFlicks As well as bringing to attention the movies we never knew we wanted to see! Guy Magar's Retribution (of which I was not even aware before your Exploring episode) totally saved my Halloween last year and will become a marathon staple onwards!
It's truly sad what happened to Vincent. I first remember him from the Danger Island segment of The Banana Splits series- which was directed by a young Richard Donner, BTW. I loved him as Hawke in Airwolf, and as Hell Tanner in Damnation Alley (which is an *awesome* movie- please do a review on it). Even most of his b-movie work wasn't horrible. I wish he'd had better luck battling his demons- he will be missed. *RIP Jan-Michael Vincent*
2:50 back before the 80's in most places they'd let you drive buzzed as long as they thought it wasnt bad enough that you'd get in a wreck and the cop would usually just take any open containers away and pour them out. This was still done in the country and small towns into the 80s and 90s. Hell, DUI's were considered more of an "embarrassing mistake" as opposed to "crippling disaster" until our parents generation, unless you caused an accident. I have a friend who was caught buzzed, while underaged, with an open beer bottle and the cop just poured it out and told his parents, no ticket or losing his license. Nowadays it costs around $7k-$10k for your first offense where i live, and that's not counting increased insurance rates or any other infractions, and assuming you pay it all off and dont miss any payments (and doesnt count any interest on loans to pay anything off).
Hi Cecil I’ve been a fan of your videos since discovering your channel a few years ago, I always love your humor and how well researched your reviews and Exploring series. My favorite of the Exploring series is one that focuses on The Mask, it’s really well thought out and interesting. Like the draft about a mask maker, that one was so bizarre and way to far off from its source material and I’m glad that they didn’t move forward with that script. Keep up the good work man. 😊👍🏼
Imagine my surprise where it turns out the kids in the opening later turn out to be characters played by Cybill Sheperd & Jan-Michael Vincent (R.I.P.). Raymond Burr and Martin Landau too? Cool! Also, this film may have the best bacon story I've ever heard.
6:40 speaking of Neville Brand, would you consider checking out THE NINTH CONFIGURATION? It’s William Peter Blatty’s sequel to THE EXORCIST. The main character (Scott Wilson) is the astronaut Regan said “you’re going to die up there” to, right before the weird stuff started happening.
Interesting fact about Raymond Burr using a teleprompter. I wonder if he used one for the Americanized versions of the original Godzilla and the first reboot that was in 1985.
Excellent video as always Cecil. The One thing I totally dig about your videos is that it brings me back to the bottom shelves of video stores...(Not a bad thing) You give attention to films that most people haven't heard of and do a Fantastic job at it. *Still requesting "He Never Died" & "Everly" if you need copies of either Please let me know. He Never Died was a great movie. Henry Rollins gives great interviews. He is well informed and can speak on almost any topic. He's such a LIAR though. Sorry, that was a song reference. I listened to a lot of Rollins Band back in the 90s.
