My former high school Video Productions teacher, Tom Friedman, actually wrote the script for this film! No lie. (at 0:49 you can see his name in the credits). He detested the final product, and wanted to disown the film ( aka credit himself as Alan Smithee), but unfortunately, since he wasn't a member of the Writers Guild ( or any union for that matter), his request was rejected. He had a poster of the film in his classroom, and is still proud of the script, claiming "bad acting" ruined his film. Friedman actually envisioned this film to be a big budget feature, akin to something like Close Encounters. Instead, it went the low budget route.
Actually, he never intended to make a sequel. It's something the studio wanted, so he wrote in the cliffhangar. But according to him, he wanted this film to be one and done, and thus had never thought of an idea for a sequel.
OMFG I CAN'T BREATHE! "Yes, as a matter of fact, you've been getting away with murder... Well the game is over ... and as soon as I call Captain Plumb-er ... you'll be going to jail and I'll have what I deserve." Everything about it is hilarious.
Who in the name of all the gods and goddesses was that asshole supposed to be? He has the worst delivery ever - even worse than STARCRASH's "They found One DAMNED Survivor!" I'm guessing he's a rival professor of some kind, or a mid-level university administrator who really REALLY hates Ben Murphy's character.... EDIT: Yep, he's someone else at the university - his character's name is "Dr. Bruce Serrano", and he's played by Sam Chew Jr. What's even harder to believe is that he was a working actor and announcer (he did narration for Discovery Channel's Shark Week program!), and is now an acting teacher in Philadelphia!
My new goal in life is to constantly talk like the police lieutenant. To everyone I meet. All the time. This is an effort to make people like me better and I think it has a great chance of success.
9:20 The movie was shot at California State University Northridge (one of 23 CSU campuses in California, only one of which is the 'Los Angeles' campus). The establishing shot at 1:00 is of the Oviatt Library which is used in many movies and TV shows, such as Star Trek as the Star Fleet Academy. I wonder if someone on the crew graduated from the film school there? Great episode as always!
5:48 Cecil, you missed a perfect opportunity to use "pyramid scheme". Ba dum tiss! Btw, I'm going to try using so much extra mouth when I talk next time in memory of that detective who got his hand messed up at the end. Too bad too, he was a fungi.
I remember watching this at University. Mummys on mopeds we called it. The crowd cheered when we thought Suzie had been killed, and then groans and boos when she lived.
Another great video. This might be out of your wheelhouse but.....as a British person (we don't have unions here), maybe you could do a video explaining what 'unions'/'teamsters' are in the film industry, why they exist, how they operate, what happens if you try to shoot a 'non-union' movie and why you might want to etc? I bet there's years worth of stories of teamsters doing shady dealings to try and disrupt non-union movies....!!
We do have unions in the UK, and within the British film and TV industry. BECTU for crew, EQUITY and PACT for talent. Unions exist to ensure fair pay, fairness, ideal working conditions, and offer health insurance. Because film and TV isn't like other jobs, it's hard to standardize and regulate conditions, and crew and talent have been taken advantage of in the past. An example of what union can do, back in the old days producers used to impress their girlfriends by giving them writing credit on a movie after giving a suggestion. As a writer, you'd obviously be annoyed that after months (maybe years) of work, some of your pay and credit is going to a non-writer for making a random suggestion that may not better the movie. Unions exist to ensure such unfairness don't happen. Now, to get credit, you have to alter at least 30% of the script in order to obtain a writing credit in addition to the original writer.
Unions were initially formed by talent/crew coming together and refusing to work (go on strike) until agreements are in place for fairness and standardized pay. Now all major productions companies are unionized and must stick to rules like giving crew 10 hour breaks between shoot days so they can rest and sleep, offering overtime pay after 10 hours of continuous work, paying a minimum wage, offering residual deals if a movie turns a profit etc. Non-union projects are common due to budget, since some productions can't offer minimum wage, and allow of people work for free, possibly in hazardous conditions without insurance and permits. Filming is already expensive, but making a unionized shoot increases the budget significantly since everyone has to be properly paid and insured and permits are signed.
I saw this movie when I was a kid, and again a few years later when I was still a kid, so it was reinforced into my brain. I remember it fondly. Funny I haven't thought about it since but I can remember the entire thing. Only 3 min into this vid, can't wait to see where it goes. Never knew they did it on MST3K, I'm gonna hafta look it up.
I found your channel a few monthS ago and I really enjoy your break down on movies especially older or more obscure ones. I’ve found out about movies I never even knew existed!
I can only assume you've picked up the same blu-ray of this film from Scream Factory that I just got in the mail, at least I know now it was a good purchase! Keep up the good work man. Consistently one of the best TH-cam channels!
Oh man, what a movie. I remember seeing this on MST3K a long time ago. They made it funny, but watching it well... 'vanilla' doesn't seem like an enjoyable ride. Although I have to admit, the effects are good considering what they had to work with. And eh... nice jab at the end there ;) (I hate movies that promise sequels but don't do them as well...)
The European version of the MST3K episode does have the nude scene only the projector goes wrong so it's all out of focus, causing them to complain. This happened in a few episodes and was a bit of a running joke. Although seemingly cut from the US versions of episodes and the versions of these episodes on Netflix.
Troy King James Karen. He was a supporting cast member on the family drama "Eight Is Enough" as well as the pitchman for the Pathmark Supermarket chain on the East Coast. :)
I remember my cousin and I watching this a long time ago. I always remember the Mummy POV was green but couldn't remember much else about it so thanks for helping me remember it!
I remember renting this film from the video library in the 80s, and the ending always stuck in my mind. I asked the guy at the counter if there was a Time Walker 2, but he hadn't heard of a sequel. He did say he'd had the same question from other customers, so I obviously wasn't the only one who enjoyed these straight to video B movies.
Keep up the good work. Since you're doing a bit of overlap with them, just want to say I love mst3k and the second best episode is when they riff on Werewolf. I'd love to hear your take on it
1:59 alot of X ray machines use 30 to 60 amps at 240 volts so I'd love to know how they're getting 10 times the power out of a 15 amp outlet at half the voltage
I also have a soft spot for Time Walker; maybe for the time it came out or that it had mummy/Egyptian tomb themes. I usually enjoy those, even if they are bad. hehe Thanks for more fun - another great video review!
OMG! I’ve been trying to figure out the name of this movie for the longest. I saw it on tv when I was a kid but I just remember like bit and piece of it.
Hey Bud. Just came across your channel a month ago. Great job on your research, its awesome stuff. I like how creative directors and producers can be to get their projects done. Keep up the good work. Can you look at Loaded Weapon 1? Either way, good times.
A cliffhanger ending!? Seriously!? What a shame... If it wasn't for the title of the movie, I would have think it was one of the Mummy sequels lol another great obscure movie review! :)
(I'm 48 nowadays.) THIS to me is one of those seemingly fell through the cracks type Movies from the 80s , which i saw on cable ages ago back when it was around on cable. (:
The weird way that Detective is talking, reminds me of the people who were in speech therapy as kids. They had an over-enunciation that only went away after a few years.
I genuinely like the idea of the mummy not being evil but just accidentally killing people by merely touching them. Would have been better without the deliberate murder of the Janitor and throwing Susie off the roof.
This was on an episode of Mst3k! I just saw this movie a couple months ago. :P But I think the title is different. I don't remember it being called time walker.
You needed to spotlight the reunion between Assault on Precinct 13 actors Austin Stoker and Darwin Joston. Joston should have had a much bigger part in this.
Now I am imagining that cop talking like that in many scenes, like the famous speech by Rutger Hauer, or a romantic shit, and I am here, alone, laughing like a maniac and I can´t stop.
In fairness to Tim Burton of the Apes, it didn’t end on a cliffhanger. It ended with the big reveal, but deftly avoided ripping off the same iconic shot from the ending of Spaceballs.
You dont need protective gear during an X-ray. The amount of radiation used in X-rays is quite low and is in fact lower than the amount you would get from flying on a plane that goes to usual height. The problem only occurs to X-ray workers who would get the same doze hundreds of times a day x-raying all the people that need it, which is why they leave the room.
This is one I haven't seen, but now I wanna. This is why I love your videos so much, either you remind me of some shitty movie I watched long ago, or make me wanna watch a shitty movie now 😎

Oakview Films that’s amazing!
Oakview Films cool man!
Did he have an idea of what to do for "The Sequel"?
Actually, he never intended to make a sequel. It's something the studio wanted, so he wrote in the cliffhangar. But according to him, he wanted this film to be one and done, and thus had never thought of an idea for a sequel.
Oh right lol. Bloody studios. So his script originally had a definitive ending then?
"I'm a parent. Welcome to my world, kids." Sad but true!
OMFG I CAN'T BREATHE!
"Yes, as a matter of fact, you've been getting away with murder... Well the game is over ... and as soon as I call Captain Plumb-er ... you'll be going to jail and I'll have what I deserve."

I fully support this.
I am a big fan of this.
That scene with the cop reminds me of Plan 9's "It's murder - and somebody's responsible!"
To me it reminds me the most of Samurai Cop acting, the sort of forced dramatic and yet completely flat line delivery.
This channel needs to be more popular than it is ..
9:20 The movie was shot at California State University Northridge (one of 23 CSU campuses in California, only one of which is the 'Los Angeles' campus). Never thought I'd see someone reference 'Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind'. Bravo, sir
Yeah, I've even met fans of Hardware Wars who had never heard of Closet Cases or Porklips Now.
4:40 KCIS must be the medical department as it's "sick" backwards.
Mummified, Mummified, My baby been mummified. My baby been buried alive. She got toilet paper over her eyes.
"Cool! The mommy's on a Segway..!" 😆 Haha Oh man, this is one of the best and severely underrated channels out there
Lol, the mommy?! Different movie....
Hahaha... Oops... Wrong mummy
This is completely awesome! Love the MST3K treatment they did. I remember reading about this film in FANGORIA. Great job!
Thanks!
Time Walker: Texas Ranger
Time Walker: Time Texas Ranger
A A ''It's time'', opens Bazooka.

I was going to recommend this movie the other day. :) Always loved it and thought you would do a great job with it.
I can only assume you've picked up the same blu-ray of this film from Scream Factory that I just got in the mail, at least I know now it was a good purchase! Keep up the good work man. Consistently one of the best TH-cam channels!
Indeed, I got the Scream factory BR. Thanks!
Playing on Svengoolie next week!
This channel deserves far more subscribers.
Thank you! :)

I grew up with Robert Random! He was a friend of my dad’s!! He would tell me stories about making these movies.
You may joke, but I would pay good money to see Jimmy Walker as the time walker....As long as he keeps saying dy-no-mite!
The European version of the MST3K episode does have the nude scene only the projector goes wrong so it's all out of focus, causing them to complain. One of the Professors was Frank in Return of the Living Dead.
MINDJIMed out of my JIMMEDMIND! Great job as always, Cecil.
Every now and then, you'll cover a movie I had seen and completely forgotten.
Had to happen sooner or later!
I watched that film when I was in college (my spare time, not part of a course) and loved it. It took me ages to find a decent copy, back in the day.
Love the Simpsons reference and also, one of my favorite episodes ever! 25 short stories about Springfield or something like that.
I remember renting this film from the video library in the 80s, and the ending always stuck in my mind. I asked the guy at the counter if there was a Time Walker 2, but he hadn't heard of a sequel. Clint, at 1:16 I would have gone with "The Operation Game: Ancient Egyptian Edition. Now where's the tweezers?" lol
I also have a soft spot for Time Walker; maybe for the time it came out or that it had mummy/Egyptian tomb themes. I usually enjoy those, even if they are bad. hehe Thanks for more fun - another great video review!
You should do a video for Gleaming the Cube. Loving your work btw. Just found this channel recently and have been eating these up.
Thanks! Oh yeah, love Gleaming the Cube

Awesome as always! Your reviews always rule.

Green basement footage..what lovely camp,goodbadflicks!
OMG! I’ve been trying to figure out the name of this movie for the longest. I saw it on tv when I was a kid but I just remember like bit and piece of it.
Same here I remember watching it as a kid but could only remember it had a mummy who's POV was green.
'They actually found a song with the lyrics mummified!'
I'm PRETTY sure they wrote it for the movie...
Being From Another Planet! "It's a Honey-Glazed Hand" And Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind too! I lurve you!
KCIS: Prequel of NCIS. I see what you did there, Cecil. Bravo.
5:54 omg Lawnmower Man was such a good movie.
Hey Bud. Just came across your channel a month ago. Great job on your research, its awesome stuff. I like how creative directors and producers can be to get their projects done. Keep up the good work. Can you look at Loaded Weapon 1? Either way, good times.
The MST3k episode of this movie was great! The bots are scared of the Green-o-vision!
One of my favorite MST3K episodes!
This movie terrified me as a kid lol, great review as always!
Must've been a Nilbog mummy.
Best channel! Keep it up
Thanks!
I love your reviews.
6:20 This movie predicted that song four years ahead of time.
Oh god this was one of the first films I ever hired out on video (betamax!). Not thought about it in 30 odd years. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!
This was my first MST3K episode. You always remember your first.

10:44 JOE and DEATHOUSE are 2 films you will want to check out
I saw this movie when I was younger and didn't know the name...until about 12:54 ago. It seem ed a lot scarier then.
Digging for gold.....CLASSIC
Wait a minute... A movie with Ben Murphy that looks un-mellow? I wonder if Central Moving and Storage supplied the transportation
A cliffhanger ending!? Seriously!? What a shame...
If it wasn't for the title of the movie, I would have think it was one of the Mummy sequels lol another great obscure movie review! :)
Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind needs more love!
It certainly does!
“Gonna build a mountain!”🎵

Man Hunter New York, I actually got that reference! Course, I'm more familiar with its sequel Man Hunter San Francisco. Anyway great review!
I genuinely like the idea of the mummy not being evil but just accidentally killing people by merely touching them. Would have been better without the deliberate murder of the Janitor and throwing Susie off the roof.
It wasn't glowing like that when I bought it.
_Wait, yes it was..._
😂😂😂
6:44 is that Kevin Sorbo?
An ancient Egyptian pachinko machine? Now that's an idea!
This was on an episode of Mst3k! I just saw this movie a couple months ago. :P But I think the title is different. I don't remember it being called time walker.
"...how does food work?" LMFAO!!!
I loved this movie, Do one on Time Rider !!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was an episode of SUPERFRIENDS featuring an alien mummy who was trying to find his way home. So the idear has been done before this I think.
As an x-ray technologist, that first scene... *face palm*
Cecil: "I have a soft spot for this film."
Translator 5000: "Cecil loves crappy movies."
*Translator 5000 available at finer retailers everywhere!
What is the name of the song being played during the college party scene???
You needed to spotlight the reunion between Assault on Precinct 13 actors Austin Stoker and Darwin Joston. Joston should have had a much bigger part in this.
PATHMARK-WHERE SHOPPING IS ALWAYS A PLEASURE.

I would love to see a review of "The Burbs" classic dark comedy, staring the one and only Bruce Dern, and Tom Hanks was there too.
Movies that end on a cliffhanger or tease a sequel? No way! Thats why the john wick trilogy has FOUR movies!
You dont need protective gear during an X-ray. The amount of radiation used in X-rays is quite low and is in fact lower than the amount you would get from flying on a plane that goes to usual height. Time Walker: Time Texas Ranger
Melissa Prophet is real. She was in Fatal Games.
Glen Talbot She was also in Invasion U.S.A. with Chuck Norris.
I actually met her a few years ago working with the late Frank Vincent (RIP). I think she might've been his agent or something.
Did you get the idea for that Pathmark joke from the Return of the Living Dead documentary? Because I feel like you did.
Don't give the NCIS producers any prequel ideas, man! They're already unkillable.
Interesting to find you outside of your channel.
I'm all over the place!
Who would have thought that people have interests.
xingcat .truly, too bad they suck...
I am sad CSI is dead and NCIS has taken over, even worse the last CSI was Cyber (shivers)
This is one I haven't seen, but now I wanna. This is why I love your videos so much, either you remind me of some shitty movie I watched long ago, or make me wanna watch a shitty movie now 😎
I'm doing my job then :)
11:45 shot is hilarious.
Keep it up that good work sir!
I remember this movie. It wasn't that bad for what it is.
Maybe that one police detective thought he was in Speed Racer.
Welcome to the California Institute of the Sciences. What sciences? ALL OF THEM!
