Note when the little girl saya, “Annabelle!” Helene didn’t even know her daughter’s doll’s name. She told everyone Mirabelle.
Amy Ryan is phenomenal.
I didn't catch that until I read your comment.
Yeah, that hurt. If you want to learn what followed up with the story, read Moonlight Mile. The whole Kenzie and Genarro detective series is a great read
...I absolutely love that movie. The moral dilemma was portrait perfectly and the ending where Casey's character is the one looking after the girl when the mom is out leaving her daughter again is 10/10 cinema...
This is when I realized that Ben Affleck was actually talented, but as a director, and that his brother is the real actor in the family.
Fact
If THIS is when you realised it, you REALLY need to watch Manchester By The Sea
@IndyTravelGuide Gone Baby Gone was way before Manchester by the Sea. I do need to watch that, though.
Did Ben affleck do gone girl gone too I did thi k he did both as they seem to be connected although not sequels or anything but someone corrected me and said gone girl gone is totally seperate and not made by him but someone else and not linked to this movie at all but I find that hard to believe when both have such similar names surely there would be copyright issues
@@WelshAmethystGirl087 Gone Girl, not Gone Girl Gone, was directed by Fincher and was a book by a different author. You're way off LOL
Casey Affleck killed it. Great actor. Ben Affleck, amazing director.
"It's Morgan Freeman." Smart. The wife figured out the mystery way before I could've! 😀
Fantastic watchalong with you two and this wee gem.
Ben knocked it out the park with this directorial debut... the fact that even his next two (The Town and Argo) were just as intriguing and so well done and felt like it was done by the hand of a seasoned and mature 'old school' director. Amazing.
So glad you reacted to this movie (no one does) .. phenomenal story , tremendous acting and way too unrecognized.
Great upload.
I take some comfort in the fact that in the books, Patrick and Angie eventually get back together, and Amanda even shows up again (as a teenager this time). Dennis Lehane is an *amazing* writer!
He wrote Mystic River too I think. No happy endings in his books
Agree. My only real issue is the character of Bubba is zero like the book. He’s a hulking, terrifying dude that scares wise guys shitless just by being in the same room.
Generally not, no! 😬 Although, e.g.The Drop (which I love) I would say has a pretty happy ending (for *some* of the characters anyway), but even then there's definitely still a lot of "darkness" there too.@@crobarus
It would have been fun to see that in the movie, so I wonder why they changed it? I haven't read one of his books in quite a long time now (don't know why - I should go and read one right now!), so I can't really remember and point to anything specific, but I feel like Angie was a bit different in the movie too, compared to the books?@@terrygracy8345
Christ, the Kenzie and Genarro detective series is so goddam good, and I’m not just saying that cos I’m a working class Masshole, it is really good
She's Gone Baby... Gone
I found this movie by chance on the shelf at Blockbuster many, many years ago. I rented it on a whim and it is now one of my top 5 favourite films of all time. Such an amazing story with a fantastic cast and obviously great acting considering all who are in it. Definitely raises a lot of moral conundrums especially at the end. I honestly don't know what I would have done in that scenario but I was actually surprised Patrick turned them all in. But, I think that's what makes this film so good is that most people would have left Amanda with the Captain which really says a lot about Patrick and how he holds himself to a higher standard but it also bugged me that Angie left him. If she really loved him she should have respected his decision since it's hard to be angry when someone is right. Great reaction!!
Such a good movie. My first introduction to Michelle Monaghan and instant love for her ❤️
I don’t think it’s shitty that his girlfriend left him. There was no right choice for her. They were at a moral crossroads on a critical ethical issue. That they took different paths could not been reconciled, at least to her. She thought Patrick condemned the child to bad life, which for a woman, maybe a future mother, isn’t something to overlook.
This is one of my favorite movies because it brings the message the of the moral grey ambiguity of life. No one is psyche that knows what the future will be. Everyone is trying to do the right thing and no one is truly wrong at heart and that is what makes it so much more heart breaking. While most people see it as sad ending I see as ending of repentance. He made the the ethical choice but just happen to get the wrong ending. He made the choice to stay with the little girl in the end. He knew that her mother would never change and high % her life would not be great. But the major difference is him. He followed his conscious and trusted it to the end. His conscious told him to stay with this little girl and I believe his repentance for others not learning from mistake was making sure he saved at least this little girl by staying with her. She won't have happy life but she will have a guardian angel to make sure she safely makes it to adult hood. It was the least he could.
Well said
No question , no grey area . For the good of the child , don't leave that little girl with Helene .
Most hated movie villain of all time. Sad part is there are real people like her who should not have
children . What she is doing to this little girl is criminal .
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Mrs. should've been a detective, or working for the FBI!
Finally! I think a good movie is one that makes you think after you've watched it and spurs thoughtful discussion. For me, this is Ben Affleck's best film and more deserving of an Oscar than the one he won for years later (which I think was a make up vote by the Academy).
Great choice. Not enough reactions to this out there. Would love to see The Town and Argo too.
Definitely Argo .
I would have left her with morgan freeman. This girl doesnt stand a chance with her mother.
The film that showed how good Ben Affleck was behind the camera. It’s also cool that he cast his brother Casey in the film. Hopefully they’ll do another film together at some point. Great reaction guys, take care!
I have a fond memory of watching this movie with my mom. She was from New York and had heard the Boston accent before. We get about 20 minutes into the film and I looked at my mom and said, "Do you mind if we rewind it some and put the subtitles on? I just don't get what they're saying."
"Yeah...I don't get what they're saying either."
Those accents were so thick 😂
Had to watch it with subtitles too
Guys, there's a great movie starting Casey Affleck: Manchester By the Sea. He's great in it!
one of my favorite movies that no one seems to react to. thank you for this!
Good film on a tough topic. I can tell this one hit Mrs. Movies hard but shows she has her heart in right place. I am glad you held tough and watched this one. Great performances by a vast cast. Have you guys watched Argo as that is a bigger Ben Affleck film. It is well worth the viewing if you have not seen it.
But he did what he was hired for but he lost his girlfriend and other things internally. I've seen both points of view. Life's about choices.
I ABSOLUTELY love the ending to this one.. Even even you do the right thing.. It's not.. And at the very end Patrick understands that. His apology to the kid. Just you're like..daaaamn that's screwed up. Patrick tried so hard to do the right thing.. When he should have done the wrong thing for the right reasons.
Imo he did the right thing, but now he has to face the consequences. But thats why I like the ending, whatever happens, he will be there and answer for his choice, hes not bsing
@@yimlife7195 he did what should be the right thing... But was it the right thing for the girl? I love how this movie makes you face that question. And the reality of that answer. That there really isn't a good one. Leaving her there she clearly would have been loved, cared for and protected.. But they would never be her real family. But reuniting her with that family, she would be ignored and there's no telling what other bad things will come to her in the future.
@@mcgilj1Yeah,it also means Remy Bressant died for nothing. Look at the amount of lives ruined from Patrick doing the right thing. He felt guilty about killing the diddler and the girl payed.
Such a hard film, great reaction. The film release date was postponed due to the disappearance of madeleine McCann, which was a disgusting situation. The wee girl in the movie even looks similar to madeleine. So sad
The book is part of a great series about the two private detectives written by Dennis Lehane, who incidentally wrote episodes of the wire
I really liked darkness take my hand
He was also the only guy they trusted to write the episode where Omar dies lol
@@GeorgeTropicana they're all really great books. Mystic River is another good Dennis Lehane adaptation
The only issue with this adaptation is the massive chunk of the book they left out. If you're familiar with it, it's quite jarring and clunky feeling.
@@IntoTheWhite04you referring to Angie's story? Which they had to remove really as this was the 4th novel in a series.. Instead they make Angie and Patrick a couple from the jump.. Unlike the novel.
You guys should watch sleepers
The movie is great and the book is fantastic
Crazy to see Kevin Bacon in that role ,, and the explicit scene is truly haunting ... Wouldn't be surprised if TH-cam AI bots caught on to the context and flag the video
@@warlockEd73Although it was unnecessary of Carcaterra to claim it all happened when it clearly didn't.
I saw this movie on The Movie Network when it was released on that old school premium channel. Still gets me when I rewatch it.
I think you're the first reaction channel to do this film and so glad you did because it doesn't get the appreciation it deserves.
In the UK it's almost unknown as the release was pushed back 2 years due to 2 missing child cases, one of which is very similar to this story.
I wonder if it was released earlier the public reaction to it may have prompted more urgency into the investigation? something which has happened in recent times through true crime stories.
Sorry for the downer comment but on a happy note I have liked all your posts have seen so far☺️
Second one, but hopefully there will be more
Way better film than "Gone Girl." I don't know why that's super-famous and this stayed in the indie shadows.
I imagine patrick will be looking out for her for the rest of his life.
Do yourself a favor and read the entire book series. You won’t be disappointed
Ben Affleck's first two directorial efforts are imo amazing, and both have a 1970s kind of ending.....
Oh man, you have no idea how happy I am that y'all are watching this. I've literally been obsessed with both the film and the book.
Weird, I was like, "I thought Ben Affleck starred in this, not Casey Affleck." Then I realized I was thinking about "Gone Girl".
Great choice for a movie and this one was a sleeper for me. Great movie and I showed this to a family member who reminded me of a character in the movie. They didn't get the message. Anyways I love your channel guys.
Amy Ryan should have won for this.....
Her character was so complex and complicated and controversial but at the same time so human and fragile.....
Perfect example that there are no good guys or bad guys....
Titus Welliver, the actor playing Lionel, is the lead in a series titled Bosch where he is an LAPD Dectective who is investigating a murder while at the same time being charged with murder. It is a great series.
Absolutely underrated movie people just don’t know about it. As someone who lives in New England, really well acted and realistic in every detail.
It is truly an amazing film, I also love gone girl
I find gone girl and the real life Scott Peterson case to be eerily similar
Of course I don't mean in anyway shape or form that lacy was in anyway like the main character in that movie. She was completely innocent, just similar in the sense that Scott seems to be alot like Ben afflecks character
Yeah, this film and Good Will Hunting were the only films based in Boston that encapsulated MA working class culture
Also, I was wicked surprised that Amy Ryan isn’t a MA native. Her accent and cadence is dead on
I’ve been waiting for somebody to react to this movie. Such a PHENOMENAL film, and Ed Harris’ performance is one of his best
I really like the rapper, Slaine in this..
Hi love your réactions especially Rambo and Harry Potter, but on this one l thought it was Gone girl film réaction,my bad lol
I believe they have reacted to Gone Girl as well.
@@exploringwithasmr Ok thanks so much. l will check it out now.
You should look into "Georgia Tann." She was a privileged woman who basically stole children from poor families to sell to rich families. She was a monster. I think the State should revoke the parental rights of the mother because she has proved herself to be unfit to be a mother. Then there could be an official court hearing on what is best for the child. The problem is its not up to individuals to make this decision on their own. It should be up to a judge to decide what is best for the child. If the mother wants her so bad then she should have to fight for her in court. She might clean up her act after going through all that.
For the sake of the child's welfare should have stayed with Morgan Freeman's character with no doubts and no regrets !!!!! Most people in her situation rarely change or want to !!! Too comfortable and selfish to want to change !!! Better chance was with M.F. Just my opinion but a tough call either way !!!
I've seen this movie a couple of times and it still hurts.
The guy with the huge moustache who hires Casey Affleck? Yeah, that's the Man in Black from LOST. Since you mentioned LOST in the opening...
Titus Welliver, Bosch too. Definitely worth a watch
Highly recommend you watch other movies in Casey Affleck’s filmography, he is a master. Manchester by the sea, Jesse James, A ghost story, out of the furnace, Tower heist and his few scenes in Oppenheimer.
Omg yes! Please react to
Manchester by the Sea! Such a phenomenal film!
Second this. Casey Affleck is severely underrated and all those films are great. Manchester By The Sea might be the best of the bunch though, especially considering the emotional gravitas it has.
Manchester by the sea total gut punch.
@@MrBoyYankeeyou ain’t kidding, that films haunts me to this day.
Just to chime in again, his performance in Jesse James is amazing as well.
You guys need to watch a movie called Running Scared with Paul Walker.. That will challenge morals as well.
This movie has a great morality divide but I think Casey Affleck did the right thing in the end, if people knew how bad of a situation the kid was in they should've done the legal thing from the start and call CPS and have the aunt fight for custody while the mom hopefully tries and gets her shit together. Instead a bunch of people died and lives were ruined.
Then you run the risk of the kids ending up in the system and lost and messed up. So i think Broussard at least knew the captain was a good man. It's just so messed up doing the right thing totally was the wrong thing for the good of the kid. Brilliant adaptation of the novel. Sadly while this is from the 4th novel i was always disappointed we never got more films with the characters.
If it is any consolation, in the books, Patrick and Angie run into a 16 year old Amanda in their last book and despite Helene, she turns out pretty damned great.
@@gishgali8354Amanda became pretty strong...and disturbed.
CPS, unfortunately, can be really hit or miss. At least Remy knew for certain that the Captain was a decent man and father.
Dennis Lehane is a great writer. He wrote Mystic River, Shutter Island, etc. Also was a writer for S3 of The Wire
one of the most underrated movies of all time in my opinion...it's up there with the absolute best in terms of moral dilemma endings
I don’t think it’s underrated. It has 94% and 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 7.6 on IMDb. Pretty solid ratings.
I love that, Mr. and mrs. movies!
One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE movies that absolutely nobody reacts to. What a terrific performance by Casey Affleck! What a dilemma! Would you leave her with Morgan Freeman?
I'd like to see Mrs. Movies watch 8mm, directed by Joel Schumacher and starring Nicolas Cage.
Oh God I blocked that movie from my memoriy
Great movie and creepy performances from Joaquin Phoenix, James Gandolfini and Chris Bauer (Frank Sobotka)
Hardcore 1979.
My husband and I had a massive argument over the ending of this movie. 😬🙄😆
I still side with Patrick on this one.
This movie is incredible
The ending would have been better with a did he or didn’t he ending.
I haven’t watched yet but need to see what the Mrs thinks
Of all the films made about working class Massachusetts, this film is the most accurate to our culture, for better or for worse
I feel bad. Mss.Movie's started to have the hand gestures that are indicative of uncomfort. Ive never seen this movie, not sure if i want to atm. Seems pretty screwey.
If by screwey you mean uncomfortable, yes Its screwey. However, it's ending provides alot of room for discussion. Whether it be internally or with someone who's actually seen the movie. I suggest watching the actual movie before seeing the reaction..imo
Thank gosh I’ve seen this movie …the constant pre guessing is wild.
Casey Affleck is one of my favorite actors. Please check out his other movies. Thank you.
*How do you guys Not get emotionally involved, Especially when you consider yourself Movie ppl??? ...I cry everytime I watch this?*
Lots to think about & discuss here. I really liked this movie watching it years ago, & glad you reviewed it. As for the moral questions & legal issues, it's clear law enforcement (in the movie) was as twisted & corrupt as any of the "bad guys" in the story. The dilemma is, is the CPS/foster care system better than the decision Patrick made?
Awesome movie! Saw it in cinema when it released.
Think this was good? Check out Edge Of Darkness and End Of Watch!
What would you have done? Referring to the ending!
I really love this movie as well as gone girl both stand alone movies. Epic both of them, I never had any issues watching true crime involving kids movies like this involving kids, I havnt rewatch Ed since becoming a mum 4 years ago but I saw your reaction and just wanted to see if you guys enjoyed it as much as me andamy many others. However since becoming a mum I find it so hard now I can't watch any true crime that involves the death of a child nostter their age, I also coukdnt watch this reaction without crying which is strange as I knew where it was going it just hits different when your a mum, don't get me wrong before I was a mum I still found these things hard to watch but some how was able to not let it stay with me after watching but now I can't even watch the movie jack frost without feeling so upset that I have to turn it off before even the first quarter of the movie is over. I used to love Jack frost, I knew things had changed for me when it tried to watch Jack frost whilst heavily pregnant when it came on tv I made it up to the 20 minute mark and I had to bow out
The discussion in the end is what really matters. I've had a debate with my buddy in which was right and wrong in regards to the end result. We never resolved it, which is what the movie was ment to be. It's a discussion piece of right and wrong and what is lost in the process. People died for this purpose. Was it justified or not?
I would have called the police as well.
I was never a big fan of Affleck as an actor, but he's a solid director. I'd suggest watching anything he has directed.
Another film that has similar plot and tone to this one is Running Scared.
My favorite movie of all-time
I think about this film quite often. It poses an unanswerable question at the end. As does Whiplash.
For a moment there I thought this was a reaction to Gone Girl, but you already reacted to that one.
I always get the two confused by the titles.
One of these days could u guys react to True Detective season 1 and Joker 2019 movie
I love watching Ed Harris work with his wife. ❤️
14:04 The most satisfying yelling in movie history
The 'fucking A' later in the movie is equally good. But Ed Harris is an absolute force any way
Good evening 🎉🎉Mr and Mrs movies
I just found tonight's movie was so blurry
It was in and out
Not ur fault but I had to keep adjusting my glasses🎉🎉much love
Incredible movie but I can't watch it again. 😢 😂❤😂😢
Mrs. Movies: what would God have to say about this? That was Patrick’s dilemma. He’s Catholic. He made the decision that he felt his conscience and Christ would fine favorable. Yeah, it’s a tough one
Diane David love you guys 😂
"Affleck's brother" as Robert de Niro's character refers to him in 'The Intern'; another hidden gem.
Lehane is awesome. Loved the book & the movie is decent too. Haven't seen it since it came out so let's go!
Casey Affleck always reminded me of James Dean🧥
30:48 She’s got it 🎯💯👏🏾
I completely agree with Casey Affleck’s decision at the end!
I go back and forth on the decision all the time...I likely know what I would do in real life, which is not what the character did, but I don't know what's right.
It is a true dilemma because (1) it's clear that this particular girl is better off with the captain but (2) a world in which we take children from their parents based on random individual subjective assessments of what is best for them without any standardized and unbiased process for identifying such children and holistically evaluating their situations would also be an utterly terrible world.
It's also worth keeping in mind that the end result of this particular plan included the deaths of several people. Would it have been more moral if they just straight assassinated Helene?
I agree with his decision, kind of, but after all of Helene’s crimes and misdeeds were shown forth, child protective services should have intervened.
I think Casey’s character will be living the rest of his life in purgatory for doing the “right” thing. He might spend the rest of his life looking out for the child, and he lost his great love.
Annabelle Creation The Movie
How am I supposed to give you $100 if your top tier patreon slot is always sold out?
It's only four openings a month. I caught one at random during a live stream at the end of November. I'll end mine after one more for February so there should be an opening for March.
OMG! Love this movie! It's so good and has a fantastic cast and nobody reacts to it. Thank You!
Oye!🫨😫😱🤔🥰🖥
Nah, he was right.
Ben Affleck may only be a fair to middling actor, but he's a helluva director. The Town and Argo are, in my opinion, even better than Gone Baby Gone
This is his first one so...
Need to watch slap shot
A friend of mine that I grew up with is a Chief of Police of a small Oklahoma town. Just last year he, and his officers had to bring cadaver dogs to the local dump to search for the body of a toddler who went missing because they had information that the kid might have just been thrown away. They didn't find the little girl there, but he said that all of the officers that day were distraught over the idea that they were going to. He said every time a dog hit on a scent it was torture. Most of those officers are veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, so you can imagine the PTSD that was triggered in them. The girl's name was Athena Brownfield, and she was 4 years old. If you want to look up the story go ahead, but it will enrage you.
please try two korean movies. unsure if you have watched them yet.
Train to Busan - very high rated
The Happiness -

This was one boring movie! 😴
Oh dear... Why don't you go and watch fast and furious 6 or something...
