I loved flying the Fletcher. Never had any engine issues. She just roared all day long. Easy to fly too, with very safe handling. Outstanding vid thanks.
That’s the best topdressing video anywhere mate! Very professional! The 400 take me big to the 70’s love the sound what the 400 and that big 3 bladed propeller! John Spence is a legend, one of the last of the old school ah pilots👍👍
Great video, thanks! Such an iconic sound & sight for me as 1970s kid growing up on farms in New Zealand - plus I have an uncle who used to fly Fletcher then. With a quick search I see the husband & wife team are quite a legend too. Also that particular Fletcher airframe is special being the very first NZ manufactured Fletcher, in 1966 - re-engined in 1975 with the 8-cylinder 400hp type it has now.
Great vid. Those 400s sound awesome. Also have an uncle that flew 1 in Gisborne in 70s and 80s. Went for a ride once. Never forget! These ag pilots do an incredible job.
Wow, that takes me back. John is a lot like my uncle that flew Fletchers out of fielding - reckon that generation would have all known each other. The way he holds the control stick is exactly as remember my uncle flying. His a/c was DLQ - flew for Manawatu and I think probably Wanganui at some stage - he flew until he was about 70, started at 18 on tigers in Wellington.
Brill vid! Are there many piston topdressers still operating in NZ? The sound is iconic but I’d have thought the turbines would have taken over by now!

How does the loader accurately measure the load when you are performance limited off a strip?
@@iainmillar1532 The loader has scales to measure weight of the load.
Love the shot as you roll from under the wing
Thanks yep had to duck for that shot lol
I enjoyed the ride in the topdresser .

Thats what thousands of hours at the controls looks like.

Love that glorious Fletcher(?)! I fly glider tow Pawnees and Caravans - your aircraft is way cooler.
Thanks for the comment, I was just the camera man, not the pilot.
