Love this. At age 13 I was a flagger in south Texas. I could work three Supercubs at a time on foot. Covered in malathion daily. I’m now 73, with bad degenerative disc disease…makes me wonder. But I loved it. It was so fun. And yes, I went on to become a pilot, but not a crop duster.
I have a friend who is ...I believe 81 who is still crop dusting with his old radial engine bi plane. Last summer he was spraying next to my house. I seen the prop wash knock the leaves off from trees every pass. These guys are next level awesome.

I managed the ground crew operations for a friend who was operating 3 aircraft, a 402, 502, and an 802. The 802 would break 200 but he didn't operate at that speed whether he was spraying or fertilizing. I went for a back seat ride with him once in the 802. That was interesting.
Glad to come across this video. My husband and I usually see this plane every year. Saw it this year near Frankfort on May 18th. Thanks for the detail you give on how the cropdusting works. These pilots are so skilled.
Given my very limited experience with airplanes & flying, the sound of the crop duster idling makes me think of turboprop planes at the airport. Very stimulating.
Thanks for sharing this memory making video. As a retired farmer this reminded me of my summer evenings helping a couple pilot friends flag for them as they flew late day applications of organo-phosphates. Yes we got drenched a few times but the job was a rush. Believe me this was fun to watch!

I worked with the FAA for quite a number of years as an aviation avionics inspector and my first accident investigation was a crop duster crash. I always enjoyed talking and visiting with the pilots when I got to visit.
That was an awesome in-depth look at crop dusting! I enjoyed that. Plus the in-cockpit footage of the action was pretty cool. Thank you for putting the video together. You and Kannon take care and be safe.
Brings back memories. Tubby Callaway sprayed my grandfathers crops in a Stearman biplane, rotary engine. When I was 5 and 6 yrs old. Loved watching those planes fly.
This is pretty awesome, a couple years ago I flew out of that same airport, same spot and everything, with a different ag operator. I'm pretty sure that same pilot and ground crew was working there as well, Fisher Ag if I recall...they were competitors but a good bunch of guys. I was there spraying for maybe a week just helping out during the busy season and never thought I'd see that airport again, crazy to randomly run across it again on an ag plane video!
Great video! I certainly appreciate farmers, and all the systems needed to make it work, including crop dusting. I went flying last week on a AT-6 Texan, and seeing this plane with an engine that is about twice the HP is amazing. I also expect my company to utilize crop dusting to control red tide and toxic chemicals.
Great job in putting the video together 😁The plane does have wire cutters just in case of an oops. We sprayed 2 weeks ago and usually use a helicopter, in one part of the video you can see the tile lines in the field, Corn grows higher, 14:17 you can pick it out.
Way back in '85 & '86, I was a mixer/loader/truck driver for a father and two sons team in Ankeny, Iowa. They had two of those Pipers and one Ag-Cat biplane (that was a beast!). It was a great job and great pay for the time and that helped offset my expenses for flight training as well. Many times, I would be parked out on a gravel 4-way intersection and they boys would land right on the gravel road and pull up and while I would mix 'n load, they'd grab a sandwich and while fueling, I was also their windshield cleaner and boy there were many-many bug splats to clean as you can imagine! This brought back cool memories! Thanks for sharing!
We use a helicopter on our fields.. It lands on a portable pad that’s on the back of a semi with all the chemicals with it.. This allows the semi to go straight to your fields and refuel right there on site… It’s does the job in a fraction of the time but of course more expensive… Both very fun to watch..
Hey Tommy, I spend my summers flying with an ag operation that has both aircraft and helis in their fleet. They call me up in July every year and I fly my plane across the country to help out (it's a 602 like in the video). Anyway, there are a few situations where a heli is faster, and that's primarily when you have small fields close by, the rest of the time heli is a better option is when the field is sensitive (surrounded by housing developments) or dangerous (lots of powerlines). Basically a heli can do a small field faster, but they can't keep up with a plane when fields start getting bigger than about 30-40 acres. If the field is skinny and only needs a handful of passes, a plane will be faster than a heli...it all depends on the shape, really. A heli can get closer to powerlines and houses simply because they're smaller and fly slower, some of the tighter spots in a field I just can't get down into without tagging trees or wires in the process. I'm flying twice as fast or more with a plane twice as big, so physics isn't on my side when obstacles are all around the field. For about 75% of the fields though, anything bigger than 40 acres, a plane will get it done faster with a better spray pattern. That percentage can be a little more or less depending on the area, whether it's densely populated with small fields or wide open with big 400+ acre fields. I get it though, the heli guys you're using have to sell their service to stay in business and you have to take their word for it, plus you may have small or irregular fields that are better suited to helis. The guys I fly for offer either option to the farmer and charge the same flat rate, most farmers prefer the plane.

Then it would turn around sideways and dive in for the return shot, standing on its tail again at this end. A beautiful thing to watch. it was a long time ago, but in my mind's eye I see a biplane, and yes it was bright yellow too.

We live about 3 miles from a local ariel Ag. application field and they use the back side of our property as a landmark line to return to their field from a northern approach. They fly three Ag Tractors and this year have converted one to a biplane. So I get to see them coming and going to jobs.
Wow... hello wires! There's a pilot out in NC (Elizabeth City area) who got juuuuust a little too close to the wires a few years ago. Crashed and walked away with only a broken collar bone. Amazing video - great flying!!
Great video! Air tractors are way cool! In the pharmaceutical industry, we use a similar device for cleaning manufacturing tanks called a spray ball. The force of the water will cause the ball to spin and really clean every square inch of tank surface.
Interesting that you brought that up, as we have a pair of them inside the hopper to do the same thing. Once we've sprayed out the product, we flip a switch and fresh water gets pumped through them and rinses the hopper out (sometimes I'll jostle the controls a bit to get everything rinsed), then we spray that last little bit out on spots where we need to dress up the field or go over a less than perfect pass. There's very little residual left in the hopper when we land, that assures all the product goes to the customer's field where it should be.
Great video Kylie you had showed all phases of how the Fungaside was sprayed on the Corn crop, and filling the Turbine Spray Plane, it had the GPS marker it it also makes it easy to spray the paddock evenly, Kylie you are your Dads Daughter, hopping in the Turbine Aircraft to see in the the drivers chair, good on you Kylie, I think you would make a great Pilot, on that note Cheers & Best Wishes to you All, Regards Trevor.W.Bacelli. I agree, great airframe. Plenty of power. And maneuverable. What is not to like, she is a keeper. My love of high(ish) G turbines just doubled, it is like flying a Pilatus but not boring! I have the wrong job. #jealous
A few years ago, I got to trouble shoot a Motorola (non-avionic) radio having issues interfacing with the on board audio in an Air Tractor 602. Really cool aircraft. I had to pull several exterior panels to chase wiring. That cockpit is really tight for me at 6'2". The product tank is actually between the cockpit and the engine so the center of gravity doesn't shift much as the tank empties. There is a slot in the dash where you can see how much liquid is in the tank.
At 12:40 it looked like he just about clipped the wires had he not pulled up. Appreciate the farmers in this country and all they do to put food on our tables. And love the flying vid.
Those Air Tractor's are such bitchen planes! And in the hands of such an awesome pilot, its just magical to watch! I dont get to see crop dusters much out here in the desert, but I do get to watch them 80's do their thing at the wild fires! Living my best La Vida Loca here in south eastern Arizona
It would have been interesting to have the Go-Pro on aboard the spray plane. And then as it progressed we got the view of the pilot and Kylie from close by. Awesome
Now I see why they put the orange beachballs thingies on the powerlines here in Arkansas. I've seen them crop dust fields my whole life but you give it a new prospective.
Years ago, I got a chance to see a crop duster in action on Hawaii Island. It was a biplane and the pilot turned the plane around by flying hammer heads. So cool.
I knew a guy from Texas that delivered 6 Emair MA-1's to Hawaii and flew them there for many years, that may have been one of the same planes! Very unique looking biplanes, and some of them had 6x the power that the original airframes were designed for (1200HP vs the original 220HP).
Amazing skills possessed by these guys. Amazing how accurate they are. They’re not allowed in several areas of the country because of drift. I think y’all may have messed him up a little sitting right in his flight path. It looked like he was turning the spray on a little late to keep from dusting you.

Just as brave as us glider Tow pilots/tuggies !!!!
You have to fly with the attitude the glider pilot on the rope behind is trying to kill you 😂
You said Marysville If it’s Kansas I’ve seen you guys many times. I’ve always enjoyed watching the sky tractor at work and so far you have not over sprayed my sweet corn and killed it.
Thee ole Caribou the tractor in the sky.🙂👍👍👍👍👍👍 Great video guys.
I agree, great airframe. Plenty of power. And maneuverable. What is not to like, she is a keeper.
My love of high(ish) G turbines just doubled, it is like flying a Pilatus but not boring!
I have the wrong job.
#jealous
Kylie and Kannon great video, very interesting! Thanks for sharing! Kevin
No gloves on the chemical mixer. Leaking pipe by the gallon meter, pilot eating beef jerky with chemicals in his hands. Raw dog life !
One year we saw them spray with a helicopter and that was really neat.
Great job stitching the video together.
14:41 hehehe that AG TRAKTOR flew a straighter line than they planted lol hahahahaah ;)
cool vid
At 12:40 it looked like he just about clipped the wires had he not pulled up. Appreciate the farmers in this country and all they do to put food on our tables. And love the flying vid.
more than once I've seen em fly UNDER standard single phase transmission lines.. as long as the pole isn't in the way!
Up, up and away! 😉
Thanks a lot for the video!😊👍🏻
They used a Helicopter to spray our corn this year, it was so cool to watch !
This is amazing and so dangerous with the trees and telephone/power lines in the way. Ag pilots are top notch aviators!
As a GA pilot this looks incredibly fun and dangerous!
That is awesome. Those pilots have some major cahoonies.
Flying this plane is just like driving a semi truck loaded with tote tanks. Just that in this plane one can still bail out at the last moment. 😆😆😆😆
Judging from this video, I would say she was Super excited!
Dang. Scary going over those power lines before the corn field!!
He left the end rows until the end. So amazing!
Nice we git to see some inside of the plane. Great video
Thrush aircraft’s are the way to go for spraying them fields such a fun job !
Air Tractor and Thrush aircraft were designed by the same person - Leland Snow
@@guitarhillbilly1482 I just favor the thrush so we’ll built and the H-85 upgraded engine is so smooth and has so much power ! Very good decision to team up with GE Noticeably more power that the H-80
@@TheSnej3089 Several AD's issued on that GE Engine in the last 2 years.
I loved the sound of the old biplane ag cats with the radial engines
A crop duster friend of mine flies a “ Fire Boss” during fire season out west…. Ck it out …. These pilots are something special
Crop dusters have nerves of steel!
Awesome video. Just south of you guys here in Darke county. Keep the farm going!!!!!
Awesome video, that’s getting low. Always wanted to see one in action. You two are doing good, God Bless…
He has great trust in the brake. 😎
