- In "47 Meters Down" sisters Lisa and Kate go shark cage diving during their vacation in Mexico. Unfortunately their cage drops to the bottom of the ocean and the sisters must try to find a way back up to the surface, all while being hunted by blood thirsty sharks. In this video we'll look at how to fight back against the sharks to get back to safety as fast as possible.

Why do all these movies start with people just trusting strangers at bars
As cabin in the woods has said "if they don't sin they can't be punished". All horror movies have the people do something they shouldn't otherwise there wouldn't be a horror movie. This is true whether the characters are smart or dumb

That reveal at the end is one of the most frightening moments in a horror movie to me. It's so eerie and bleak, it caught me off guard the first time I watched it. There are few scenarios more horrifying than being trapped on the ocean floor with quickly depleting air and your senses diminished.

Buried? A man is buried alive in a coffin in a remote part of the desert. He wakes up and there's a phone which his kidnappers use to contact him throughout the movie. I actually don't remember why they abduct him or how it ends but the whole experience is pretty unsettling.

The girl that didn't have any diving experience should have just been honest. She probably could have said something like "I don't have anything diving experience, so is it okay if I just come along and stay on the boat?"

The stupid mask thing was purely to force the script to work. Because if they had no scuba gear, let’s be real, the movie would have ended the second the winch broke. Unfortunately these writers don’t put in much thought for plot holes. The quicker the script is written, the quicker the movie is filmed, the quicker they get it out and hopefully make a quick buck off trying to cash in on Shark Week and Jaws fans. I’ve never found a genuinely good shark attack movie that doesn’t have some stupid plot holes or plot device. Even Jaws had the comically negligent mayor just to get more beach kills in.

It should be obvious but please don't do a dive without a license, it seems simple and safe but even with how fun it is there are a lot of things that can happen including fatal injuries both external and internal
Kinda the same with these movies, don’t watch them without knowing you can handle the cringe and won’t die from it.
How can one get a license and how long it takes do u have to know how to swim?
You don't need a license. Just training/knowledge. A license doesn't do anything, it just confirms you took A course about it. Its the actual experience and training that matters

Good way to not get attacked is to not go diving with people you met at a bar one time

If you go to a boat and the Captain/operator does not ask for your license or takes your word for it, leave immediately. No reputable place or ones that are sponsored by hotels, etc. will let you dive without proof of licensure. OR in some cases they offer programs to get a temporary license with their outfit. Any deaths for actual Companies that operator scuba services are EXTREMELY serious and result in HUGE liability so the level of precaution and safety/gear checks is OUTSTANDING and top notch. The risk is minimalized to the highest extent. Not the case for uninsured/licensed operators.
If a boat operator says, "Eh you don't need a license" or, "I'll take your word for it" you should leave ASAP.

This is one of those "uh-uh" movies for me. I see the trailer, I go "uh-uh", and I never watch it, for fear that I'd never go into the water again.
For me it’s the terrible writing. Just by looking at a few clips and I know, “these writers have never even been to an aquarium, much less read a book on sharks, huh.”
I have a fear of the ocean too and found the movie rather interesting and the segment before the end was honestly really well done. Can definitely recommend despite being more terrified of open waters after 😂😂
Movies like this are why sharks seem so aggressive and dangerous when in reality you're more likely to die from a vending machine or being left handed. Even if a shark were to go as far as bite you they more often than not let go of you. Nobody has ever actually been eaten alive by a shark.

1- they thought you were a seal, which barely even happens as they have Ampulae de/du lorenzini, dots located in the shark’s snout, sounds like italian ik, anyways, these help the shark sense electric currents or something produced from an organism, different shocks are produced for each species, the shark should easily Identify which organism it is, if the shark is dumb or a failure (which barely happens (again)) they will try to bite the human, but do not worry, sharks don’t find humans appetizing, so you should be ok for this situation...
2- if threatened, this is obvious as the shark will try to protect itself, so do not make sudden movements that might scare the shark, do not attempt to hurt it (unless it did to you)

As a Subnautica expert, what you need to do it swim out of the way of the shark every time.
Then look for copper, gold, and titanium to build a fabricator.
Finally, build a knife to kill the shark since its AI is bad
Hopefully they don’t update it since even though the AI is dumb it is powerful and updating the ai could ruin the game

Just craft a habitat builder and make a hatch and craft a small compartment. Put the fabricator inside the base, craft a knife, then delete it all so you can have extra resources.
Finally, use your knife and extra resources to escape the sharks

I'd probably choose to swim back up. Sure, there's the bends but it doesn't automatically kill you. It may, but it also may not. I could get off with a non-fatal condition. Drowning and having no air to breathe though? Man, that's 100% gonna kill me.
The bends are very situational. Go up slow enough, you’ll disperse blood gas pretty evenly. Just got to naturally float up, honestly. And pray your buoyancy is just enough
My physics teacher told us a story about a man who almost died during decompression, but miraculously survived and recovered... then he did the same thing again and got paralized... I just thought it was so sad - he made a mistake once (forgot exactly what the mistake was) and got off scot free, then he made the same mistake again though. Not so fortunate the second time. :/
You would need to do 3 min safety stops for sure, plus inexperienced divers dropping to 47 meters, you’d be narked to fucked
There are facilities to help treat the bends and reduce the risk of permanent damage or death. Still extremely painful but ow oils rather take my chances with that than run out of oxygen.

It was going down too fast and they were flung to the bottom maybe. Imagine if an elevator stops working and drops down. I would imagine it works the same way. But yeah they would fly up also so
Moral of the story: Every single movie scenario that ends in your horrific demise is easily avoided by using even the slightest iota of caution and common sense.
Well... There is horror about people eaten by sharks after they failed to sign that they are coming back to water. Not mentioning that they did it on casual ABC diving spot so irl probably next boat would take them after few hours.

The crew of the boat are sharks in human costumes that are sending them to the bottom of the ocean to help their fellow sharks!

Don't forget that descending as swiftly as they did without equalizing the pressure in their head would instantly explode their eardrums, and poor radio signals would be the least of their hearing problems.
Or how the beginner one was able to descend even a few meters without displaying signs of discomfort, considering she wouldn't be able to equalise the usual way
One of the greatest ways to fight off an attacking shark, maybe even the best way, is to grab its gills. I know professional divers who have tested this many times, and every time, the moment you grab a sharks gills, it swims away and leaves you alone with little to no hesitation.

@@mrscandinavian5053 panic and adrenaline would probably allow u to generate enough force to cause some effect and since the nose is pretty sensitive probably would end up reacting but its better to aim for the gills since punching it in the nose would be a chance of missing and ending up in the JAWS

I heard someone a while ago say they wished the movie had ended with the camera zooming out of Lisa as you hear her struggle for air and although that sounds entirely sad and would probably have you depressed for a few days after watching it, it does seem like a really cool ending rather than just a rescue and then another rescue
simply "Open Water" where sharks ate one of divers and another just gave up and descent again. This ending is quite weak as another possibly rescue dilutes impact of 1st rescue being revealed as hallucinations.

Tip : Don't go on board the offer shark cage experience by using chum in the water. When they throw chum in the water yes it does attract sharks but it makes them go into a frenzy which can lead them to want to attack and become curious . Also go in the middle of the day when the shark isn't hungry .
Fun fact: if you need to surface from deep water you can do so safely as long as you swim slower than your bubbles. It reduced your chance of getting decompression sickness / the bends

sharks are very curious creatures. the only way they can 'explore' and understand something is by biting it.
also, when humans swim at a steady pace, like kate did most of the times she left the cage, sharks won't attack (they won't see them as defenseless or sick prey).
granted, great whites are very unpredictable and predatory, but they would definitely not linger around a cage with two living things they have absolutely no apetite for.
They seriously pulled the “it was all a dream and they were dead all along” plot twist in a shark movie. Because who needs to be invested in anything that goes on in a movie?
I honestly thought the twist worked really well. As shark aren't violent in real life and makes me question much of what we saw legit.
@@scp--297 Well everything up until she switched her tank would be implied to be real, I'm pretty sure. Doing a twist at the very end of your story like that is a sure sign of weak writing. They were desperate for a final, big moment, but fail to realize how little it actually adds. In fact, it detracts from the movie heavily, because it spends so much time doing literally nothing. The struggle to get out from underneath the cage, getting to her injured sister, slowly ascending and fighting off multiple sharks, barely coming out alive? All of that build-up, suspense, and drama gets tossed out the window. It's lame.
They did the same thing in fall with becky hallucinating that hunter was still alive even though she wasnt
Fun fact: sharks don’t find humans appetizing, so that means it’s usually a mistake when a shark bites you. Even if it did, it would just go away after one bite.

Sharks aren't aggressive, but they're dangerous. They wouldn't attack you when they don't sense fear in you. So if you move a little too fast or if your heartbeat rises and you get a panic attack, be ready for a shark to come and investigate you. They are very curious animals and tend to inform themselves and satisfy their curiosity, and by this they bite. They don't want to hurt anyone, but they do bite. But they're definitely not interested in eating you, they prey on marine animals. So yeah.. Try to keep calm.

This movie is like actually scary unlike most horrors that are just jump scares and knives, this is truly terrifying
These Movies are so stupid. But still really entertaining.
Breaking the lights wouldn’t help much. Sharks mostly rely on their smell, hearing, and their detection of electricity and vibrations.
The shark would have been able to detect the girls from very very very far away - further than the lights would have shone - based on the fact that they were moving. The shark would be able to detect that because of it’s hearing and very sensitive vibration detection.
Because of this, breaking the lights would remove their visibility, but it would barely affect the shark at all.
Also, it wouldn’t have left when the girls were staying still. That’s a terrible idea. They have small organs in their snouts that let them detect electricity produced by things like muscle movements, breathing, and, oh yeah, your heartbeat. Any normal shark would have known that they were there.
In that situation, they should have attacked its gills. That is how you make a shark flee. It’s gills are the most sensitive and exposed part of its body.
would the sharks have detected them when they banged rocks against the metal cage?

Really frustrating movie. It just goes to show you how peer pressure can make you agree to do anything even though you know it's a terrible idea.
I got my certification about a year and a half ago and wow i love the details about the nitrogen being a real problem in the end, although i dont think switching the tanks would cause you to hallucinate that bad but idk. I just live the details. Also the decompression thing is a big problem so they should have waited like 10-15 mins 5-10 feet from the serface... love it
"Switching tanks" wouldn't do anything, what would is that they're that deep, presumably just on air. Re: The Bends A safety stop is just for that, safety, It's a "you should do this just to be sure a boat isn't coming or any number of other things" they waited longer than 5 minutes so they'd need to do actual decompression stops at a/various points for various times. I wouldn't know the specifics, but I know the general idea.
I did like the twist and was able to accept it was basically 0% accurate to real life, it's just a movie after all. It was a fun watch.

The way movies portray sharks makes it so that more people think sharks are horrible and kill more
I wouldn't call them 'friendly' (maybe nurse sharks) but they are cautious and not aggressive. Just because you are unlikely to be attacked, doesn't mean you should risk it. It's still a wild animal and deserves respect.

its is ALLWAYS due to the shark mistaking you for an animal, and going off of that, there are very few creatures that will actively predate humans; these include: most felines and crocodillians

This is hands down one of the best shark movies, the ending shocked me so much!
I thought this was gonna be some crappy shark movie when approaching it but it ended up being a decent movie with a lot of tense scenes and good scares. That twist at the end was also super surprising. I highly suggest it.
Twist at the end was stupid. When you go past 30-35 meters you do got some impairment which almost all divers describe as having a couple of alcoholic beverages. You may be a little lethargic to react to something, may forget to check important things on your gear (like O2 levels, time, direction you're swimming, etc.) but you DO NOT have full out hallucinations like you're on shrooms or ecstasy.... it doesn't work that way even remotely.
This movie was a giant fictional pile of BS from Hollyweird.

That's why we don't use movies with bad endings in therapy. They may enforce phobia. You can always consider thing that help arrived at the end but better avoid movies like that.

Suprisingly entertaining? I'm not too critical usually but holy shit, this is probably the single most unenjoyable movies ive ever seen .

Like many shark movies, 47 Meters Down portrays its sharks in a slightly exaggerated way, i.e. with more aggression. But Outpost worked with the director to retain as much of the 'classic' aspects of shark behavior as possible while still creating the feeling of terror and panic for a horror film. Says Kolendo: "We looked at how the jaws behave when a shark attacks, what the gills are doing when it turns in anger, how fast is the tail moving to propel the massive body, and then we added that extra few percent to exaggerate the action, creating a shark that is not only believable, but also terrifying."

hes right guys, Brave wilderness channel free dove with multiple shark species. They dont eat humans, just stay calm and you'll be fine if you ever end up stranded in the middle of an ocean.

Sharks are kind creatures of the sea, they only bite humans when they are confused. That bite might be lethal, but from their perspective a seal just disappeared out to thin air (or water...) and they accidentally bit at some weird creature and its surfboard while chipping a few teeth. Imagine taking a bite out of a sandwich and ending up with a mouthfull of legos, thats pretty much how they see it. :/
Another way to survive this is to don't talk to strangers who dives with sharks for fun

Actually the lights are safer ON. Sharks are curious animals, and will swim over regardless. The lights offer protection for divers to be able to see. Shark Week tested this out a few years ago. So if you ever are in this situation, KEEP THE LIGHTS.
