agreed; matters who your Head-coach, OC, (scheme, calls, etc.) and (drum roll.....) OL are. If he goes to good situation (3 for 3? 2 for 3?) he can thrive in NFL as well as any who've made it. If not, those "not-in-the-know" will likely blame JJ 100%.
      For........
....The OL must be able to run-block as well as pass protect very well; which is somewhat hard to find in most NFL teams. Its a question of "balance."
And, a good, stout "D" never hurt QB's win pct. either.

@@ajman8304 Don't know the broncos or Giants overall situation(s), but the Vikings need a much better OL to produce/protect JJ if he's to last long there in MN.

That should be a red flag right there. He needs to end up in a good situation to be good? So he's like Kirk Cousins and needs to be elevated by the team/coaches? I'd rather have a Favre/Manning/Brady type that does the elevating.

You seem to make a lot of statements that aren't really backed up by evidence. Like arguing that a guy with a 72% completion percentage that almost never throws screens (among the fewest attempts in the country) has a huge problem with ball placement seems crazy, and especially to a person that saw every single pass he threw all season. It's also weird how often you mention inferior opponents when Michigan played (I believe) 3 different defenses in the S&P top 5 and 5 different defenses in the S&P top 15.

Joe Montana was a college game manager quarterback who had less passing yardage and more interceptions than McCarthy. the notion that a quarterback in a running offense can't become a pro passing quarterback is nonsense. blaming the player for coaching is stupid.

What you said about JJ can be said about every single QB in every draft every year!!! Where he lands and the talent surrounding him as well as the coaching staff has as much to do with a QB's ultimate success or failure as anything that the individual brings...here's a perfect example...If JJ lands in Minnesota or Denver I think he has a way higher chance for success than if he was to end up with the commanders, giants or patriots. Personally I'd like to see him fall to 29 and end up in Detroit where he could sit back and learn from Goff for a couple seasons...he'd still be young and have two years to learn and develop.

I know this is late, but I have been watching JJ for the past two years. What you (and many others) are missing, is that he has some of the most important qualities that most others don't. 1. He is utterly unselfish. He always played to win (and win he did), putting the team's and his coaches' needs and wishes before his own glory. That is a coachable talent and very rare. 2. He has the highest 3rd and 7+ conversion rate of any of the top six QB's in the draft. When it count, he delivers. 3. He is very athletic, much more than people think and is a true double threat. 4. He is a true and tried leader that has shined in the biggest moments on the biggest stages. At worse, he never let the situation overwhelm him. 5. JJ has always won the fullest respect from all his teammates, coaches, and fans. He earned their trust and by all accounts, was confident and humble.
I think at the Vikings he has a great chance to become one of the best QB's in the NFL. You just watch,.

Not completely sold on JJM either but this take is extremely unhinged. To compare him to Wilson, Love and Russel is apples to bowling balls. JJM has played three straight years in the playoffs & against competition that those three never saw. Plus he played in a pro style offense and was taught by a former QB1 in the league. You didn’t see that he was calling protection & was basically another coach on the field. He suffered through two huge losses in the playoffs but lead them back to rise above that. None of those players are even in the same league as this kid when you factor those in. His two years of starting is concerning but to maximize contracts in a short career he had to come out this year. The three QBs above him haven’t won on his level either, and their flaws are equally apparent to his. He is #1 in 3rd down completions of 7 yards or more, & qbr under pressure as well as comp.% under pressure- no one else is even close. The media types are way behind the NFLer's regarding Mccarthy and are just now catching up. While all the other QB's were in simple static offenses of which very little translates to the NFL, Mccarthy was 1 of 1 running a pro offense, changing plays at the line as well as formations - all of this translates. There was tremendous interest in him well into last season. I know he never would have declared if he wasn't sure of a top 10 pick. You need to dig a little deeper with his actual game.

You know JJ had a bad ankle injury during the PSU game and couldnt put pressure on it at half the week later right? He wasnt back to close to full health until bama.
That should be talked about to give context concidering many other QB would have sat.
Aa for as the washington game goes. They were up 14-3 after the first 2 possessions, with UM killing them in the run game. You arent going to get manny attempts verse any opponents, much less a team who wants a shootout. That said, the WRs didnt help him out any. They for 3 third downs batted out of their hands on 3rd, i thought 2 should have been caught. Very good plats by the eefenders thoygh, so hats off.
Moreover, the WRs also ran the wrong route on 2 other 3rd diwnd and didnt stepout in the two minute drill. I also didnt like attacking the edges with quick outs on third. Working Loveland over the middle, (like they did on the chunck in the TD drive to put it away,) or with WR (like the curl to Johnson on the second play) would have worked better. It was just a weird game that never allowed the pass game to get in rhythm. But its definitely unfair to claim this shows JJ doesnt know how to throw. When the stuck with more of their go to stuff JJ hit 2 chunk plays.

I hope the Vikings don't trade up for this guy. I agree he is a late first round/early second round pick. He would benefit by sitting a couple years and developing. He's only 21. He has so much time. Trading up into the top 5 would be nuts for this guy. Too many question marks as you stated. He is too risky to give up draft capital for. If he was on the board at 23 and Minnesota took him at 23 I would be psyched. But sounds like he has been hyped into the top 5. shame.

Wow, incredible video. I may have to subscribe. With that said, I don't know how anyone can overlook the obvious. So yes, his team had a great defense and running game. But, if you are such a great player/prospect at the QB position; your coach would make more allowance to your talent. In other words, he would tailor the offense to your skills. As we can see, that did not happen. I think he will be a fine player. But he should have stayed in school for at least one more year. Maybe then, we would have seen his true growth and potential.

I really think he should've gone back to college for one more year. That being said I don't mind him as a prospect. He's really young. He can get the ball out fast with pretty good accuracy. He's got some legs for scrambling. He can run a little bit. Good on third down and I like his ball placement in the short and intermediate area. I just don't think he's shown enough to really qualify for the first round. And definitely not the first half of the first round. But, teams will always hope and pray and overdraft quarterbacks. I don't think he's 'great'. But I think he could be a decent to good QB in the NFL.

Jj is one of the most accurate AB’s in this draft. It’s funny. You must be a great nfl scout. Cause most of the highly paid nfl scout thinks he is a great qb. You obviously know more than everyone else. You’re dinging a guy for being on a great team. He made any throw that was needed. You’re so dead wrong.

    • @PlaySA
      @PlaySA หลายเดือนก่อน

He made 'any' throw that was needed? Yeah I'm sure his coach went out and told him to throw 11 interceptions on those plays. That was surely the game plan. Not a completion instead. Yes he's pretty good on third down, I like his ball placement in short and medium area, and I like his youth and decent athleticism. But he DOES still need a lot of work. His deep ball is bad, he's not super athletic, he doesn't know how to layer his throws, and he doesn't make a ton of reads. He needs work, but he could be good yes.
