I am from India. I was so excited to see that this is going to be reviewed by my favourite channel on TH-cam. I pre-ordered this from Church Latin. Derek was absolutely fantastic and very helpful. The Bible is still on the way but it should reach me in a couple of days. Thanks for this sneak peek. I own the hardcover version also. Highly recommended. Top class quality.
I had put this in my cart but decided I could wait one more day for your video before pushing the button. Thank you for encouraging my (very occasional) patience.
Thanks for making this video!! Very beautiful Vulgate. I'm a huge pronunciation nerd (working on a related project now actually!) and your ecclesiastical pronunciation is just fine. You do well with the sounds themselves, it just could be more fluid (pauses between words), but that will come with time.
This is a beautiful new edition of this book! I originally bought the softcover edition for $65 less. As a Lutheran, Latin is a historically important ecclesiastical language in our theological tradition.
@@ConvincedCatholicism Good question! It continued in use for a couple centuries in the academy. In church services, at first only a little vernacular was added; but eventually the Latin was completely eliminated, except in college chapels. Most of our greatest theologians wrote in Latin. And to this day, there's many Latin words that are still used in liturgical contexts.
@ConvincedCatholicism thank you. in your opinion as a person acquainted with literature would you have a suggestion? I bet you know a lot better than me (I don't know anything about it). I could ask another question I suppose then, if you don't mind, if the previous question can't be answered. Do you know the best english translation of the Latin vulgate? Thanks!
The Nova Vulgata Bibliorum Sacrorum Editio [1979], Editio Typica Altera [1986] is the Catholic Church's official Latin translation the Catholic Church's translations of the original-language texts of the Catholic canon. Copies are not hard to find.
Finally. Im looking for a Vulgate myself. But im not in a hurry to spend yet. Hopefully i can see one locally. Edit: Found it online locally for around 80 USD. But after watching the review. It might be a bit too early for me. I want something with side by side english translation.
I am the wrong person to ask. I was blessed with 20/20 vision. However, I can say that the spacing between letters is good but the font is small and bleed through is not the best
@@ConvincedCatholicism I don’t know why someone cannot make a high quality print with new type and larger print and better paper to enhance readability. I guess i will continue to wait.
@@King-uj1lh I own a copy of the hardback 3 volume Douay Rheims before they stopped printing them (they only print them in soft cover now) and no, it doesn't have the same artwork. However it is well worth your time if you can't read Latin because it's very nearly a one to one translation of the Latin. The English characters are a little different than what you will be used to, though. For example, a "W" will be "VV" or an "s" will almost be an "f" but without the horizontal line. Sometimes words will be spelled like " vpo' ", which is "upon", the "v" is a "u" and the " ' " at the end is an "n". English hadn't been standardized yet, but it's nothing you can't figure out, you just have to be very diligent in your read.
You made my heart bleed when you started pulling on the twine there, damaging the book inside. :( Also sad to see that the publisher links to "Libros Guadalupe", which promotes Lefebvrist works.
@@ConvincedCatholicism You can see indents on the spine: got dug in when you pulled on the twine. But it is thankfully minimal. As for the SSPX: no mission, and thus ought to be ignored.
@@matthaeusprime6343 yes they do, SSPXers have yet to refute their arguments. I mean how do you even respond to the fact that Pope Pius VI explicitly stated that consecrations like Lefebvre’s are schismatic, you have to throw out traditional catholic ecclesiology to support the SSPX frankly.
Lol. Yes I do own a knife… I was just already committed to my own stupidity. Also, It does sound like that but it was the paper brushing across the desk
Sorry to sound so critical and uncharitable. I take your point that it’s an unboxing video. It's just that TH-cam is full of ill-prepared videos. It looked like the spine is creasing, perhaps because the binding is too tight. Your video persuaded me against buying the new edition. I'm grateful to you for this service. @ConvincedCatholicism

When did Lutherans switch to vernacular? I can’t remember correctly but I know Martin Luther either wanted to keep Latin or the lay faithful did

Wow, beautiful book. Thanks for the review. I wish the font size were larger though.
I think it being facsimile there is not much they could do without distorting
