Oh my goodness! Fabulous addition to lightroom. I have lost many many hours of my life selecting sky and subject. Thanks for the clear explanation, Anthony! I cant wait for your subsequent videos.
THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU I did the update and was clueless as to how the new features worked. Your vid made it so easy for me to catch on to the way they work. Appreciate the time you spent to make the vid and the examples you used to teach us.
Upgraded to Lightroom 11 a couple of hours ago but wanted to wait until you put out your tutorial. You're always so practical, sensible and clear with your explanations. I can't over state how much so many of us depend on your remarkably utilitarian videos. If you're ever in the Little Rock area I'd love to buy you dinner.
Yes v11.x has some nice new features. When time permits, please consider updating / creating a new version of your previous selective color video. The tools in v11.x operate differently that in previous editions.
Thank you for another practical and helpful video. I've benefited from your output for years. You have a wonderfully clear and concise presentation style.
Thank you, Anthony. I always go to your videos first with updates and you are so organized, concise and logical with your teaching. Very appreciative and grateful!
It’s great to see your tutorial on the new upgrade of Lightroom Classic Anthony. More learning from those who care and teach us in our own environment and at our own pace. Excellent video Anthony. Thank you. Stay safe.
I just loaded up Lrc 2022. Thank you so much, your video is great, your voice comes clear, your explanations by zooming to section are very helpful. I’m looking for how to change background color to black and how to export with changed background color?
Found the answer to my question. Choose your local area adjustment tool and apply to the image. Then, in the Options (3 dots) for the mask, choose "Intersect Mask with" and select the type of mask you want to use, for example Color. After using the eye dropper to select the color range within the local area adjustment, only the local area is effected, not the whole image.
Thank you Anthony. It's a great tool but there are a couple things I'm having problems with. 1. Subject selection pretty good but sometimes edge of mask is a bit to harsh. I can't seem to feather the mask after the fact. The brush tool etc has the feather, edge dialog box. With subject it seems to be take it or leave it. 2. I find that I can "invert" a simple subject mask to work the background. But if I modify subject mask with +/- brush masks, inverting the whole resultant mask does not work. I can't figure out why. The only work around is to invert first and then modify... Thanks a lot
I live in Scotland and have literally just updated to this version within the last hour. I ‘was’ wondering about it. Regarding new library ~ after a quick inspection all is as it was (worried was I). thank you for taking the time to produce this and ‘all’ your other very helpful tutorials….
Anthony, I downloaded the upgrade and I like the way I can separate the sky from the rest of the photo. But it takes a little getting used to since I messed up the photo but I'll go back a fix it. So thank you for showing us this new feature. It will make what I try to do on most of my photos much easier.
Great video, Anthony, as always. All I know about Lightroom is coming from You! Thank You very much for all of your efforts and your absolutely brillant style, how You explain, how You teach! Best wishes from Germany! Keep going! 🙂
This looks extremely helpful, especially with your guidance! I'm updating now and will test it out soon. Thanks once again Anthony for your great tutorials. :)
Nice job demonstrating how to use the new Masking feature. I agree, this is huge, probably the most significant improvement in LR since Adobe went to the subscription model. It's so good that I'd encourage anybody still holding out with LR6 and not subscribing to Adobe's Photography Plan, if your hardware supports LR Classic (subscription), to give it a try. I held out until about a year ago and subscribed then and am glad I did. There have been incremental improvements along the way but nothing as useful as this.
Did you set updates to automatic? In any event, you can open the Adobe Creative Cloud app which you will have on a computer if you subscribe to Adobe Photography Plan and select Lightroom and Update. Or open Lightroom Classic and on a Windows PC at least and choose Help > Updates.
💥💥 So valuable and helpful. Your style of communication is so easy to follow and I’d love to have you as my teacher in learning how to use PS. I just subbed. 🤟🏼
Thanks Anthony - great introduction to an exciting change in LR. Unfortunately my first experience with this (a close up bird on a blank background) has given me the message "There was an unexpected error and your request to not be completed". More work to do before I get to enjoy this great feature.
Your directions are clear. I followed your direction re “sky” to start. The display came up looking exactly like yours. I made some adjustments. Created a new mask, clicked on the dots and was given the “invert” option. On the next picture i tried, similar to the first picture (with sky and subject), i selected “sky”, but the display didn’t say “sky” with a separate little square underneath the first mask. And there weren’t the options to add or subtract. I created a second mask, selected sky again and was not given the menu options with “invert”. There was another menu with things like “intersect”. I repeated the process on multiple pictures, but the program never went back to functioning as it did on the first pic as yours did. Any ideas?
Anthony, thank you for all your great and informative videos. Looking for help. When I for instance I use the gradient tool it is affecting the whole picture, I do know if I have pressed something by mistake. Thanks again for all your help. William.
Thanks a lot. I was looking forward to your video. Could you please demonstrate how to use the luminance mask in this new interface? I tried and had some difficulty in understanding as I was moving up and down the slider with only the sky having been selected, it was showing the mask applied to everywhere and the outcome was weird. Please bring out some in depth tutorials on that. Thank you. ☺️
Good feature but seems they have some more work to do.. seems a bit buggy and throws unexpected errors some times when trying to mask. I’m sure more updates will fix some of these issues.
Great video Anthony. Do your early comments about copying the library mean that there will be twice the number of RAW folders & files on the hard drive or is it just the LrC files?
Thanks Anthony. Also just to let you know a weird audio gremlin in your latest video. Sounds like a compression noise gate artefact. Anyway thanks again and I’ve just updated!
Very good. Can you explain how to export from Premiere Pro 2022 to youtube? Which video Codec shall I use now? Where is the old H264? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the tips … mind you your mic is acting up giving some noise every time it picks up sounds … had my Headphones on and it could get distracting at some point … also noticed that with your other vids … just an fyi
Hi from Greece! Thank you so much for your very, very educational video Anthony. One question: can I and should I, if I want to save space remove the old catalog from Lightroom? Thank you in advance, elwira
Hi Anthony, thanks for the great video. I have two questions. I prefer the way the old mask worked wherein when I was hovered over the image, the red mask showed but when I was not on the image, it went away. Is there anyway to create that in this version instead of it only going away when you make an adjustment? i find that annoying. Also, I can not do docking on my panels. Is there some setting I need to set? Also, how do you enlarge the panel you are working on? Is that a function of mac or the software you are using to make the video? Thank you.
In previous versions of LR masking,, I'd select a linear gradient for the sky then adjust the luminosity to e.g not impact mountains,, buildings etc.. Unless I've missed something the gradient and luminosity masks now appear to be two independent masks (requiring two selections). Any ideas how to best to get the current masking version to function like a single tool as I has mastered in previous versions?
Same question as Pradyumna Khan 1 day ago. I can't seem to use the Range Mask feature with the Local Area adjustment tools. It's a very important feature in Lightroom. Any ideas on how it works with the upgrade?
Great feature ... fewer "trips" to Photoshop! What are your thoughts on the new lrcat-data file in the catalog folder? Adobe says you should include it in your backup routine. If that is true, why isn't it just included as part of Lightroom's built-in backup function?
Thanks Anthony, I've had a go with the masking on birds and sports subjects so far and love it. Can I check please that there is no way to create a Develop Preset that automatically applies subject and subject-invert masks? In the copy settings option it says AI tools have to be reapplied to each image, so I think this means an auto preset isn't possible. But I'm asking just in case there is another way. Thanks again.

Same here. I can only find the intersect, not the invert.
Yep. No invert
How about removing objects/people from photo? Was there an update for that? Thanks!
How well does the subject selection deal with stray hair?
Thank you Tony. Great content as ever.
Best ever upgrade.
Looks like a good new feature. Just updated my Lightroom.

Same here - Masking is very hit & miss. It seems that it can take up to a minute before additions or subtractions will show or function
A great addition, and actually a better masking workflow than ON1 - well done Adobe.
That helped a lot. I thought I would never figure out where these were.
Great video Anthony. Do your early comments about copying the library mean that there will be twice the number of RAW folders & files on the hard drive or is it just the LrC files?
It should be just the catalog- the LrC files.
