Dear Anthony. I want to thank you for teaching me to use Lightroom. I first went through your Lightroom 6 series and when I upgraded to Lightroom Classic I went through the LRC series + a lot more. You are a gifted teacher and you go straight to the point every time. Thank you.
Amazing! Thank you, Anthony. I am having SO much fun with this upgrade. I cant believe how much better my edited photos look now because I am often too lazy to put a density filter over my sky when I am rushing on the trail taking photos and these tools let me select the sky so quickly. You let me keep the joy in photography. Stay well!
Good day Sir. I follow a few other photographers who put on tutorials, but I find yours the best. You take your time to explain everything and your tone of voice is calming. Keep it up.
Thank you Anthony for an excellent and in depth explanation of Lightroom’s new masking tools. In particular, I found your explanation of the ‘intersect’ tool to be very clear and understandable.
Thank you! I always check out your videos whenever lightroom has an update, and even though I view many tutorials to learn about those updates, I always find I learn something different from your teaching approach that give me a better understanding. Especially in my understanding about intersect. Well done!!!
Yeah - been using these masks for a little while now and I love, love, love them! For a studio photographer the control they give is just incredible. A real game changer. Thanks for adding your knowledgeable perspective to this topic Anthony!
Watching your videos about Photoshop and now Lightroom, it's easy to tell which is your go-to program. Even the tone of your voice is a strong indicator. I believe that ACR has the same tools.
Thank you for the most clear and detailed video on LR masking. I love your Venn diagram, which made it easier to understand intersecting masks than any other webinar on the subject. Amazing!
Thanks very much Anthony, I never used the masking tool in Lightroom. Love you master level explanation and your calming voice made the information sink well.
I just recently upgraded to lightroom classic and noticed the new masking feature and your videos helped me get started using it. I like your tutorial videos and thank you for doing and sharing it with us.
Great tutorial, now that almost everybody is talking about the new mask feature, is very nice to watch a video that really teach how to use it. Thank you.
Thank you Anthony. Your explanation of "intersect with" was particularly well presented and very helpful. Perhaps at some point you might do a video on naming masks, assuming you make use of this feature. It seems to me that local editing in Lightroom is becoming more like Photoshop in that instead of painting on a series of local edits that are listed in the history panel and identified by pins the orientation has shifted to making selections and sub-selections called masks that contain our local edits and that can be named and called up like layers in Photoshop.
Richard, What I have so far experimented with, naming masks in L/R and naming layers in P/S are exactly the same. And it is super cool that you can go back to a named mask and make further modifications. The lines between Lightroom Edit and P/S are blurring more and more.
Anthony, Thank you so much for informing us of all the neat toys and tools over the last several years. Were it not for your videos, I'm sure I would be way behind the curve in P/S and L/R knowledge.
A great tutorial Andrew. I played around with the new LR tools and got nowhere fast. This Deep Dive into Masking is a very powerful piece of work. Many thanks.
Thank you Anthony. Awesome masking video for the novice user such as myself. This has been very helpful for me in understanding how to use masks in Lightroom.
Excellent video on the new Masking feature of LR. I can count on Anthony to make new tools understandable, with clear and concise information in a slow and deliberate manner that I can easily follow.
I'm so grateful to you for these videos. These are amazing features that will really speed up masking, and I actually think the interface is clever and efficient -- but having you step through it really helps me understand and use it right away,
Thank you. This video takes some if the latest updates to Lightroom Classic that at first seem daunting to learn, and makes them quite understandable, in fact almost intuitive. Appreciate your very good efforts, as always.
@@jessemorgan2009 ok…I’ve replied multiple times but my replies keep getting deleted. Seeing as your comment is a “Highlighted Reply,” it would appear that yours is the “correct” answer. Been watching several videos on the new masking feature and this one is by far the most didactic! I don't know why some people out there tend to make it so complex. Thanks a lot for simplifying it, Anthony! Greets from Brazil!
Nicely done Anthony. As always very good clarity of instruction reinforced with actual examples, i.e. you talk about a feature and then actually do it so we can see it. Great technique for reinforcing the learning. For me, I love watching how you use the tools on different photographs. It would be fun to just have a Masking video Pt II where you just take a bunch of images and work on them using the tools you've just explained. That would be awesome. Stay well
Thanks for another great video. Seen a few other youtube videos that discussed LR masked, but no one discussed intersect!! They all missed a valuable tool.
Hi Anthony, Thank you for your lesson. I have recently learned LrC mask. When I try to change the overlay color by clicking the red, I can't get the color pallet but switch the basic colors by "Shift + O" Could you advise how I can bring the color pallet from mask.
Great video. Could you follow-up with a revised workflow using the new tools. I never used the mask tools very much, often only using the brush to dodge and burn, like the old days. I find I am using the masks more and earlier. Your thought would be appropriated.
Hi I have the cloud version of light room and the settings in masking are different to the classic version there seems to be no reset button at the bottom like you show. so if you want to start from scratch you have to undo each mask independently this is very frustrating! is there a way round this thanks.
Thanks for all of your videos Anthony. It seems EVERYTIME I watch a video about anything, I don't have what they have. For example, i don't have the three dots next to the masking color check box. I get a drop down box when I click on the icon. Also, your selections change as you move your mouse.. mine don't. I have to click, view, and click and choose another one if i want to see another one. This is so annoying! Why don't mine match? I am using LR Classic v 11.3.1, the subscription version. Also, I find the naming of the different versions of LR totally confusing.
Thanks so much Anthony. I’m enjoying using the new version of Lightroom. I wonder if I might ask a couple questions here, either for you or one of your viewers who can help? I frequently do photos that are very closely related and use the “previous” button to apply the same changes to the next similar image. Do you know what adjustments are applied or not applied to the subsequent image? Are masks and the adjustments made there applied? It seems to me they are not. Also I find, after only one session; that the updated version of Lightroom uses more computer power and has slowed down the time it takes to make adjustments. Do other users find this to be the case? Thanks again!
In the masking, you click SELECT SUBJECT.Now amongst the many sliders, there is setting for WHITES and BLACKS. However these two don’t work the way Whites and Black sliders work in LR ( Alt//Option key and changing the settings). How to set blacks and whites here
Can you mask out the HSL sliders? for example, for real estate say there is an orange cast from the tungsten lights on the ceiling but the oak hardwood floors have orange in it. I want to drop the desaturation slider on the orange in HSL to take out the cast from the lights but if I do it will take out the orange in the hardwood floor which I would want to keep. can I brush over a certain area to desaturate the orange HSL slider to only effect that area? I can't seem to figure this out. I know I can use range mask and select color but its not that effective and would rather just brush an area, go to the HSL sliders and desaturate the color I want
In this tutorial, I demo in detail the new masking that is found in Lightroom.
