- In this video I share with you a quick overview of the different photo modes offered on the Mavic Air 2 as well as samples of when you might utilize them. 48 megapixels, panoramic, smart photo are all really impressive on this new drone from DJI.

Cool vid; thanks.... I believe the Air 2 uses a Quad Bayer sensor, much like most top-end cellphones, so it's not stitching 4 pictures, but utilising "effective" pixels to generate the higher resolution. That said, the quality is definitely not 4 times as good as the 12Mp pictures...... So yes, I rarely use it too... Cheers, Ian

Nice vid and good infos. I just bought MA2 one week ago :) It was my 1st drone ever and i am very excited for that. For now, only thing that im not happy is the low light performance. Filming with 400ISO u get unusable footage and with active track modes only 30fps HDR. I already made couple of test videos, go and check.

Bought the air 2 w/ fly more combo. Great drone as my first. Been watching Devin's videos for a few weeks and it has helped me tremendously. You can't go wrong for sure. Good luck and great flying to you.
Great tutorial! Is it possible to take photos in portrait mode (vs. landscape mode)? I heard the Mavic Pro can, but I'm not sure about the Air.

Good question.. no you can’t! You can manually change exposure and create your own exposure bracket of course though

Hey! As far as I know it does not. I have been messing around with it and it doesn’t have 48mp and no HDR.. a couple other things.. maybe I’ll make a video about it sometime soon.

This is probably a stupid question, but is smart mode basically AEB except it does the stacking for you?
at 6:29 why do you think you got the red alert with device icon? I get this a lot and dont know why
That sample in that instance I was inside and I don’t think the compass was very happy about the signal but I wasn’t flying so I didn’t need it to be workingZ
Devin I just found your channel. Amazing from what I have seen. I have just bought a Mavic Air 2 and looking to expand my photo / video skills.
Can you please do a more in-depth tutorial regarding the speed boat about how to get the boat sharp but showing motion blur in the waves? I see that a lot with cars driving with the car sharply focused, but trees & bushes behind with motion blur. I'd love to see & hear your techniques behind that.
But in the mean time I will apply all your stuff to my new MA2. Cheers

Hello has anybody heard of the 4:3 photo mode that causes your video feed to fall apart and glitch and even cause disconnection issues on mavic air 2? i think it happened after a firmware upgrade. But as soon as i switch back to 16:9 photoes the drone works really well has really good range . Its bizzare like 4:3 photo mode really taxes the drone or my phone there is also alot of lagg almost like 2 seconds of lagg

Shooting a vertical pano could be the best option. I will have to run a test
So if 48mb takes several seconds and shots several photos i assume there can be no moving objects in the picture?
You can still have a fast shutter speed.. it just takes a while to stitch the photos internally. I hope that makes sense 👍

I am new to photography and I was curious as to why the photo in Smart Photo mode is so much darker than when in Single Photo mode.
Good question! The single photo was properly exposed for the ground .. if I would have exposed for the sky it would have been really dark on the ground. The smart photo combined exposures so sky and ground were exposed.. with the sun in the shot being so bright it probably made the rest of image a bit darker than other situations.
The burst shot will be very useful for full of action shot since the picture taken could be used for freezing frame lapse in post editing. Thanks for sharing Devin! Does it make portrait video and picture
The air 2 doesn’t have portrait mode
The 48 megapixels is achieved with the use of a quad bayer filter. It essentially divides each pixel into 4, thus achieving a 48 megapixel photo from a 12 megapixel sensor. The issue with that is, each of those smaller pixels are getting less light. That’s why it performs better in brighter light when using the 48 megapixel mode. But, the 48 megapixels does tend to produce sharper images.

Nope. 48 mp photo is a feature that is made possible by splitting the pixels in 4 (Quad bare filter they call it) it cuts on the light by quite a lot but it's not 4 shots stitched. The sensor can switch the pixel modes

The 12 megapixel photos on this drone are very noisy.
I haven’t experienced a ton of noise in my 12 mp photos. Are you shooting manual?
@@devinjtatro yes im shooting manual , the 12 megapixel photos from this drone are horrible.
Albeit there is some marginal noise in some of my shots the majority of them are noise free and the ones that have noise are very easily fixable in post. I wouldn't classify the 12 MP photos as horrible on this drone.
A little might be the 12mp but it also has a lot to do with settings and some with your skills. I thought the same until I started watching videos like Devins and it helped quite a bit.
Im a stickler for accuracy when teaching is the objective. Assuming you have that intent. There is NO menu selection for 360 photo mode. And youre not the only xspurt referring to Sphere as 360. If I didnt know better and I were a noobie Id search til tomorrow looking for 360 mode.
