The Ayah first tells men to lower their gaze. But do we do that? World over, men saying that they get distracted means the answer is No. We first need to look within, instead of forcing "our definitions" of decency on women.

Hum duppatta aur scarf lete hain...main burka nahi pahanti main modest way main rahti hoon...I don't like myself to show my religion symbol. I want introduce myself as individual to any society or nation. My religion is personal. I live in Germany I read Quran, I pray namaz, I don't eat pork, in Ramadan i fast. I pray daily dua and specific surah for protection for good sleep that helps me. If I am alone husband is away I read alot of dua for protection. I speak allah o Akbar chanting way which gives me peace. All this is my personal and no one can judge me spiritual character of mine if I am or not. I born alone and i have to go back to Allah alone. My Karma is only mine. This is my thought and really it helps alot practicing religion on daily bases (deen aur Duniya 😊). What I am, india and its constitution and my parents made.

Try reading Karen Armstrong's book "Muhammad." I wanted to know a bit about Muhammed saahab, Islam. So I went through a couple of books n came across this book that I suggested you. Must say it was really helpful ...... Era before Islam, Muhammeds life, ancient Arabia, pagan culture, trust me there are so many things even most muslims don't know about Islam.
It should not be co related to the minority issue, covering the head and lowering the gaze is mentioned in all old scriptures, tenements including Quran. Some fact are not clearing addressed in this episode. I respect the thoughts expressed by our beloved professor Puniya Ji.

I disagree with Dr Puniyani that European colonizers tried to do "sudhar" against "parda". No sir, in Algeria and other predominantly Muslim countries, European colonizers encouraged removal of hijab to humiliate them and their men and their families. You cannot call it "sudhar".

Resurgence of hijab among Muslim women is not because they are being forced by the men folk. In my opinion, there is a renaissance in Muslim communities. During last 20 years their religious literacy as well secular education has gone up. Muslims of today know Islam better than the previous generations and girls and women are choosing hijab on their own, some even against their family's wishes.

A long time ago only woman from the upper caste was allowed to cover themselves, lower cast woman was not allowed to cover their breast, which was one of the extremes of Brahmanism's cruelty to the lower caste.
Sometimes I wonder if those poor lower castes are the converted Muslims who are still living in ghettos, who carry hatred in their hearts because of their past tortures and abuses, they are the ones who rebelled in past.

But if you really do want to dwell into the issue of Hijab or for that matter any other Islamic rulings issue, then you should try to look into the formation and development of Islamic law and it's history based on Quran, Hadees, the actions of Sahabah (companions), Ijma (consensus), Qiyas (analogy).

Sir, no role of dharm guru, as in Quran it is their, there is a dress code for man n women, no name, but it is distracting,, in Islamic society we have no free mixing of opposite sex. One have to observe s code of conducts or morality.. Hijab is a part ,It doesn't mean we should be excluded frominteraction or study etc. Hijab is a part of religion as well as culture.

Good morning. Sir, I differ with the statement that islam came with prophet Mohammad.Islam is in this world ever since it came into being. Islam cannot be parallel with Muslims; Islam means submitting ones will to the will of creator.
