Just discovered your channel, you have the best rules videos on TH-cam. I would love to see a video of all the situations you get free relief from. As in abnormal course conditions, man made object, animal holes, etc. Thank you for a great resource!
This scenario, just happened, at the par 3, 8th hole; during the 1st Round, of the Genesis Scottish Open. Collin Morikawa’s tee shot was on the green. Ludwig Aberg teed off and his ball struck the golf ball, of Collin’s and drove it off the green. My question is how do you know where to replace Collin’s golf ball, on the green; since no one was actually near it, to know the original placement?
Thanks for the view and comment! If a player knows that his ball has been moved by another ball then he or she must estimate to the best of their knowledge the original spot and place the ball. Sometimes this is an estimate. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your video. What happens if your opponent's ball is in the hole cup and you putt on the green and hole out? I think that you shouldn't retake the stroke again, but do you incur 2 stroke penalties or no penalty? Does it matter to determine the penalty if you knew or not that the ball was in the hole cup before making your putting stroke?
Jason thank you for the view and comment! Great question. Once your opponent’s ball has come to rest and any part of their is below the surface of the cup their hole is completed and if your ball hits theirs it’s just a chance occurrence and no penalty is accessed in this situation. Hope this helps and have a blessed day!
Help: Two-person teams are playing against each other in a Match Play format. (Player A from one team is playing Player C from that other team and Player B is playing Player D from their other team...Players A and B are on the same team and the four players are in the same foursome.) All players are on the green. Player A putts and his ball hits the ball of Player B (his teammate). Is there a penalty? If so, what is it? Would it matter if Player A's ball hit the ball of Player C or Player D?
Terry thanks for the view and question! Match play rules sometimes differ from stroke play and this is one case where they do. According to golf rule 11 when playing a match play format, if you putt on the green and your ball hits a ball at rest on the putting green there is no penalty. You must play your ball as it lies and the ball which was moved must be put back. This should cover all your situations. It’s a good idea to have all members of the 4-some mark their balls on the green or have a player who may be in someone’s line putt out of turn to avoid causing confusion. Hope this helps and have a blessed day!
@@girgolfllc Thanks! It seem a little strange that a teammate could leave their ball on the backside of the whole to assist. But I guess it is my responsibility to ask them to mark their ball. I believe I am entitled to ask them to mark their ball and they are required to do so OR putt out first.
3:45 but what if your ball (coming from outside the green) goes in the hole after hitting another ball? it just happened to 2 of my buddies yesterday and they were having the discussion.
From OFF the Green onto the Green wherever this Ball in motion (B1) ends up is where It Remains. If after colliding with the Ball At Rest on the Green (B2), and then B1 ricochets into the Hole then B1 counts as being "Holed". No matter where B2 ends up, B2 is ALWAYS Returned and Replaced to where B2 had been before the collision to the best that B2's original position can be determined. Since B1 was originally Played from OFF the Green - there is NO Penalty to either the Player of B1 or the Player of B2.
Tournament golf mark your ball. Buddy golf mark it clean it, line it up and start looking at the break so you can be ready to go as soon as it's your turn. (as long as your not in anyone's way) If some one putting at 6 o'clock another 3 o'clock another 11 o'clock all but your balls down and start reading the green.. This will speed up play 30 - seconds to two minutes a hole equal 20-30 minutes of faster golf. Thank you all the people behind you.
Thanks for the view and comment! Yes you can ask your fellow opponent to either mark their ball as a courtesy or have them go ahead and tap in. Hope this helps! Thanks and have a blessed day!
Great question. By the definition of the rule you would receive the penalty however I would ask them to putt out of turn if they don’t want to mark the ball which is legal to ask. Thanks for the view!
Thanks for the view and comment. It is proper etiquette to mark you ball if asked to do so and the player could ask you to putt out first and wait. It would go against the spirit of the game to deny marking if the opposing player believes he or she would hit your ball.
A request to "Mark another Ball" must be complied with under Rule 15.3 In Stroke Play, This does give the Other Player the choice of Putting before you do. A refusal to comply with the Request is the General Penalty of 2 Strokes.
Thanks for the view and comment! If your ball is lying OFF THE GREEN and another ball is on the green and you hit your ball and it hits the ball on the green there is NO PENALTY and your ball is played where it comes to rest (if in the hole it counts) and the other ball MUST be put back.
@ricardochicas142 actually in Match Play there is NO Penalty for a Putted Ball striking either a Partner's Ball or an Opponent's Ball. Again Your Ball remains where it comes to rest and the Other Ball is returned to and replaced on its Original position (as best as can be determined).

I love your channel. Lots of great info. I have one question. How many shots for you to hit the golf ball on the green?

That’s why I came here lol. As far as placement it’s on tape so a rules official could watch it and help estimate the replacement too.

@@girgolfllcI would like to add in that because the ball is holed out, it is no longer in play.

Love it - but please reference the golf rule citation number. That way, nay-sayers can look the rule up themselves. Thanks for the great vodeo!
This is governed by Rule 11.1, since 2019.

If my ball is in fairway and my opponents ball in on the green , just next to the cup , can my opponent mark the ball ?

Thanks for clearing my doubt sir. Love from India 🇮🇳 🙏🏻
If i asked my opponont to mark had ball and he refuses and i putt and hit his ball. Whose incurs the penalty?

Is the opposing player obligated to mark their ball by rule? Because it seems to me that I would just politely decline if my ball was in their line.

What if it’s match play???
@@ricardochicas142 in match play there is no penalty and you would play your ball as it lies and the ball that got struck must be put back.
I wish to point out that in playing stroke play as you said at the beginning, there is no opponent. Your opponent only occurs in match play.
Are you saying this tule does not apply to match play?

Thanks but you are dealing with stroke play and there are no opponents in stroke play. There are fellow competitors.
