    Watch for some descriptive text throughout the video so I can point things out as they happen!
    Because of all that, no more bonus comparison notes here.

      It's one of two Genesis games where I have the cart but not the real box. A friend permanently lent it to me when we were (late) teenagers. Tried to give it back and he told me to just keep it, that he wouldn't play it anyway. He'd even lost his box, oh well.
      The other one is Super Hang-On which I bought used from a local video store. They rigged up a weird size plastic clamshell of their own. Oddly enough, despite being one of the first Genesis games released, Super Hang-On was the last Genesis cart I ever bought - don't remember when I got it exactly but it was the latter part of the 90s.

      I was quite surprised the first time I heard the MD/Genesis soundtrack and realized how much closer to the CPS-I some of the tunes were. I think it's because the Sega port's OST was actually based on the arcade while the Nintendo version was based on an arranged album.

    I am talking back in the day when PS2 or emulation, the arcade 1 ups didn't exist. I am talking about 1990's where you had to go to an arcade & pay 25-50 cents to play games at the arcade.
    In the 90's when these game came out, I rather play it at home or with friends on the Sega Genesis. I would rent this for $5 at blockbuster for 3-7 days & beat it. A lot cheaper than going to the arcade and more comfort to as you can stay home to play this.

    Mega Drive (Genesis) SF2 CE/HF is the only port that has the CPS Chain intact, but I dare say the Super Famicom/ Nintendo port was my go-to back in the day. The arcade board (Supergun) is another level, and should be pursued if you want the true experience. I have been playing Street Fighter 2 for the Mega Drive, SNES & PC Engine all last weekend and this week. I have changed my mind lol Here's my final take the Mega Drive port is the best and I do like the SNES version now better than the PC Engine version.
    The Mega Drive version has the clearest RGB image and has a bit more fluid gameplay than the SNES and PC Engine version.
    As a whole Music wise the Mega Drive is the best. Speech wise the PC Engine is the best.
    As far as stages
    Dhalsim - Mega Drive looks better and has a more arcade presence.
    RYU - Mega Drive has the moon and is more detailed.
    Ehonda - SNES looks better and has both of the Orange objects hanging on both sides.
    1st special - Mega Drive more detailed.
    Blanka - Mega Drive the music is better and it has more of an arcade presence. Snes is 2nd though with the cloud moving in the background and the music is good.
    Brick special - A tie for the Mega Drive and SNES. (its not in the PC Engine version)
    Guile - Mega Drive has more people and its more detailed. The music is good too. SNES no.2 it has better music than the PC Engine and looks better than the PC Engine.
    Ken - Even though the PC Engine version has nothing going on in the background as far as the boat and flag. It still looks the best. SNES no. 2 as it looks good not as good as the PC Engine but better than the Mega Drive.
    Chun Li - A tie. The Snes and PC Engine version looks better than the Mega Drive but you have to be impressed with all that is going on on the Mega Drive version with the people on the bikes coming out more and the MD version looks good too just not as good as the other 2.
    Zangief - The Mega Drive looks the best. Its more detailed and has the signs on the fence. SNES no2 as it does have the fence (doesn't look as good as MD). PC Engine no3 (no fence at all).
    Balrog - SNES looks the best.
    Vega - All versions looks good but the SNES has the words moving. So SNES no1.
    Sagat - SNES looks the best and the music is better on this stage than the MD and PC Engine.
    M.Bison - PC Engine looks good and I like the music on the PC Engine version here than the MD and SNES versions.
    Im a SF2 nut lol
    NO.1 - Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition Plus (Special Champion Edition) - Mega Drive
    NO.2 - Street Fighter 2 Turbo - Super Famicom
    NO.3 - Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition - PC Engine (used to be my favorite)

      Well now we agree on the order, lol. Thanks for your detailed breakdown on your opinions. I'm with you on much of it.
      The biggest thing I disagree with you is Blanka's music on Genesis SCE. I like it, but it doesn't sound like the arcade one at all. It actually sounds a bit more like thr Super SF 2 version than the original arcade version. The SNES Blanka song sounds a closer to the original IMO.
      But again, I'll end with all three versions are really good, especially considering when they were released!

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      These days I don't really keep my old systems hooked up anymore. They're put away and some of the games are boxed up and some are on shelves, I just don't have room for that stuff to be out all the time these days.
      When I play stuff now I pretty much stick to emulation because it's accurate for the 8 and 16-bit stuff and is just super convenient and takes up no space. I'm not against using real hardware or anything, I'd love to have a room dedicated to all the old stuff on CRTs, it's just impossible now.
      The only "retro" systems I leave hooked up are the Dreamcast and Saturn. I have my DC hooked up to a modern LED TV via the VGA port. The Saturn is on the same TV via composite sadly, but even sadlier its drive stopped working a few months back anyway so it's not a problem :P I'd love to pick up a MODE or Satiator, but that isn't in the cards right now.
      Unless I miraculously strike it rich, this is how things are gonna be for the foreseeable future.

      It could've been even better if they made the Genesis version first instead of using the SNES assets, basically all SNES Capcom games are letterboxed do to the lower resolution and it also helps reducing graphical load too, the Genesis version ended up being letterboxed too, which is a shame. There's a homebrew of SFA2 for the Genesis and the visuals are shockingly near-arcade quality, since this project doesn't derive from a watered down port like SFIICE is, we see the potential wasted there, not to mention the fixed PCM driver which is another missed opportunity.

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, because it's in the SNES version of SF 2 and SF 2 turbo as Cap 64 also. It might refer to either RAM or video RAM... the SNES, Genesis and PCE all have 64k of video RAM so I think that's probably most likely. The only problem there is that the 512 in the arcade version doesn't make sense since it has just over 200k of video RAM. Tile maps on CPS1 can be 512x512, but tilemaps on the home system aren't 64x64, so that doesn't quite answer it either.
      Hopefully someday someone will explain this one!

      Your statement on resolution is incorrect. SF2:SCE on Genesis runs in the system's low resolution mode, which is 256x224. That happens to be identical to the standard resolution mode on the SNES. Many SNES ports to Genesis ran in its low resolution mode so they could reuse the same graphics and only had to adjust the palettes.
      Most Genesis games ran in the system's higher resolution mode of 320x224, but there's a decent chunk of them that run in the lower resolution mode of 256x224. You can find lists that people have made if you're interested to see how many and which games use the lower res mode of the system.

    As good as SF2 was on the Mega Drive. Capcom really dropped the ball on it. I wish Sega would have produced it. If a game is not running in 320 mode in actual gameplay, I really feel what ever 3rd party company was putting out a game for the Mega Drive were being lazy or just was on Nintendo's side in reality. Makes since since Capcom had a strong relationship with Nintendo. Now Mortal Kombat 1 for the Mega Drive is a different story. Its a Masterpiece IMO. Probe Software did an great job on MK1 for the Mega Drive. Its my favorite version of Mortal Kombat 1. I like it better than the Arcade, Sega CD and SNES versions. You can't beat the Matt Furniss soundtrack (which is one of my all time favorite soundtracks in a video game), that gives the Mega Drive version a darker gory feel. It also has great gameplay (some say even better than the Arcade version) and it also looks great in RGB. Some stages even look better to me on the Genesis version than the Arcade like Kano's stage I like the gold look on the Mega Drive version, rather than the silver look on the Arcade version. MK1 is a Masterpiece on the Mega Drive.

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gonna have to diverge a bit here! Genesis Mortal Kombat plays prerty well, but it's kind of rough and sloppy. Probe delivered a lot of games that lacked polish and lagged behind the big Japanese devs of the era. Same goes for their ports to home computers like the Amiga and other consoles. I've always considered them to be sort of a B level developer.
      While Genesis Mortal Kombat is definitely not bad and I easily prefer it to the laggy, sanitized SNES port, it could have been better.

      I'm with you on almost all of that, but as much as I don't like the game on SNES, it definitely looks a lot nicer with larger, better animated and more colorful sprites. Everything else, I prefer on Genesis.

    So....we know Capcom really screwed over Genesis fans with this port. It could have been so much better with the tools that were available at the time it launched. My question is given how close the Genesis was to the arcade boards hardware how far could they really have gone? Keep in mind what Sega pulled off with games like Strider and Ghouls n' Ghosts so early on in the Genesis's life. I believe Strider was a CPS1 game while SF2 was CPS2 but still...I think looking at other fighting games like Samurai Shodown on the Genesis shows the characters could have been bigger at the very least.
    I guess if you were to give the same amount of memory as Super Street Fighter 2 as Street Fighter 2 Special Champions Edition it could have been scary close. Now, of course you couldn't go 10 stars crazy and you might even have to dial it back to normal but I can see it really surprising us. Just look at the crazy fan fix of Mortal Kombat to see what I'm talking about. It not only has every last voice from the arcade and they are carbon copy good but all the backgrounds are in it as well. We're talking moving arcade backgrounds with much bigger character sprites and all running smooth as silk. No additional chips, no emulator needed, no slowdown, no flicker just pure arcade close MK1 on a bone stock Genesis. I mean it makes the Sega CD port look like grade A trash and the developers actually put effort into that one. Even Goro is bigger and runs flawlessly while Shang Tsung changes characters on the fly without so much as a hiccup. I know Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat are two very different beasts but after seeing that I want to see the Genesis pushed to its absolute max.

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think Capcom did a bad job at all with the Genesis port, but it IS kind of a lazy port of thr SNES SF2 games, using ported over graphics and likely much of the underlying engine.
      SF2 was CPS1 up through Super SF2, which was one of the earliest CPS2 games. How close could the Genesis have gotten to the arcade original? Pretty close on everything except colors and resolution. If you look at a (mostly) contemporary game like Eternal Champions, the sprites were about as big as those in arcade SF2, so the Genesis could easily have handled the large sprites in terms of processing power. The big thing (literally) would have been how much storage space decently animated sprites of that size would have occupied.

      Another thing I saw that surprised me was how inaccurate sound was in a few cores. Some of that may have been cleaned up by now, but I remember the GameBoy cores in particular sounding nothing at all like the real thing the last time I saw/heard them.
      I'm not anti-FPGA or anything, I'm all for them. But people sometimes forget those cores still need to be programmed by people and depending on their skill and the available documentation on the chips they're simulating there's plenty of room for FPGA cores to end up with flaws.
