@@GeeEee75 I'm a millennial and as far as I remember I only got a smartphone when I was 17, and this was the very early days of Android (think 2.3.6) and it was way less addictive to use smartphones up until 2013, when there were more and more powerful phones being released with more and more functions and apps...I thankfully had a childhood with very little electronics, but seeing how bad electronics addiction has gotten me, has me scared for my small nephew...
@WildWildWeasel I didn't touch a computer until high-school and didn't have an email address until university. I didn't have any sort of mobile phone until age 23ish, which was a Nokia 3310 or similar. 😂
@@GeeEee75 lmao I did have a 3310 as my first ever phone, and that's when I was like 9 years old because I was far from my parents at school and needed to call them, and as for email, right after starting high school in 2007, but only because the basketball team needed an email for the yearly grade reports I'd get from the principal, because if anyone's scores dropped a certain amount they'd get kicked from the team

I remember listening to local over the air FM radio on my Nokia 6085 and 6101 in the mid-2000s. Any earphone or headphone’s cable that was attached served as the FM tuner’s antenna. It was free audio that did not count against your mobile data cap!

I don't use any social media at all, so that wouldn't be an adjustment at all for me. However, I do use my phone to keep up on tech news and track my workouts and diet. The shocking thing for me is that this is just a one day phone. I kind of expected more. At least the battery is swappable.

I think if a person decides not to use social media then switching over to a phone like this would be a lot easier and sustainable for the long-term
You can easily survive with a 2012-13 Blackberry Curve or Bold, as it has a QWERTY keyboard. It can do everything the feature phone does, but on a slightly larger 3 inch screen.

I’m getting a new flip phone in a week or two. 😊 don’t care what anyone says or thinks. It’s the TCL Flip 2 and I can even order a nice plastic case to put around the phone.

Kudos to you for going a week. I used the same Nokia phone for a weekend. Its for sure different than today's phones, but its similar to what I grew up using so that nostalgia factor was present. It did make me use my phone less.

@@seaweed428 it may surprise you to know that there’s a growing movement of people that are using flip phones instead of smart phones. Some of the flip phones do a little more than talk and text and others are capable of running apps like Waze and other simple apps that don’t require a lot ofresources. I challenge you to go without a smart phone for a week and use only a flip phone just to see if you could do it. You don’t even have to tell me the results.

I find it interesting "replying to texts faster" is in her list of pros. Mine would be spending less time texting, more on phone calls. Gen Z vs. Millennial differences for sure. I used to love the calls and voicemails I got from friends. Texts were meant to be quick ways to make plans, share brief updates, or tell people random stuff you intended to talk about later in a phone call.

How do you listen to music on it do you have to hook it into computer and put MP3 files on it or does it work with apps like TH-cam music and all those , also if you close screen if you have TH-cam premium will the video and audio stop or still play in background
What i hate about new nokias is hard to buy new batteries because their battery swell over time.

if i did this i'd use a classic 2g/3g handset from back in the day - 2g still exists in the uk for as much as the next 10 years so it'd work and it'd mean you wouldnt miss the point of being more intentional

It’s interesting because halfway through this I realized some of these challenges are only issues for city people. I’d be interested to hear a similar review from someone who lived in a more rural/suburban area
I feel like if you really want that nostalgia with modern technology, the flip phone should have best in class cameras with good navigation app, as well as the ability to be optimized for music applications. I think there is a market for these older style devices, but people won’t compromise on camera’s because in today’s smartphones, the camera is probably the most important feature!

Yeah we did it mostly to save the cost of it going into a second text message as back then each text cost around 10p each. Phone calls were worse 50p a minute in the uk
However, be *VERY* careful buying a new flip phone, though. Most new flip phones rely on digital cellular networks, and many cell carriers are no longer supporting 2G and sometimes 3G digital cellular service. You want to phone that supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE) 4G service nowadays.

My government phone I got has 4G LTE and I like the way it works I had to sign up for a government phone usedy ssn to get the phone
Im using an S23 Ultra and have removed all social media apps (except TH-cam). It's done a lot of good to my mental health. I used to be absorbed in shorts and look at too many attractive womens profiles. It kinda made me pathetic, and it wasn't me.
Personally, I stick with a smartphone because of the camera, maps, email, Spotify, TH-cam, and Google messages. I have just recently removed shopping apps that also made me buy things I really didn't need.

I got a cat s 22 to get away yes it's a hybrid if you want to call it that it's a flip phone has a touch screen but also has a dial pad like this phone a Max it does enough for what I needed Text from this dual purpose it has the touch screen of Android but because the keys are small from a smaller display it makes it harder to use so I guess that's the simplicity I don't want to use it as much for that
