I know what you mean. My father died in an accident last year. I often put off going to see him, too wrapped up in my own life dominated by working 70 plus hours a week. I did not see him for a long time due to Covid too. The last time I saw him was February 2020 and I had no idea I would never speak to him again as the door closed and I walked away for the last time. Truth to be told, he was always distant and I never felt I knew him but he was the only father I had ( obviously). If I could turn back time, I would reach out and visit more often. He once suggested going to see OMD together on one of their recent tours just to show interest in a band I had always followed but to my shame I declined. The one thing I want to do is pick up the phone to say hello but it can never happen. I will have to own my regrets.
When this song came out Frank & Paul did a record signing session that I went to at the Mark Jones record shop on Smithdown Road. (Mark Jones was a Liverpool radio DJ)

Shows you how powerful this song is: my grandfather used to tell us about his early days in West Africa when he was part of a street gang called Zulashta. They were having a violent turf war with a gang called Goronzo who had at least twice the amount of members. On the night of their big street confrontation they assembled in front of a butcher’s shop. The whole street took cover but the butcher went on with his work as if he knew he was secure. This was playing very loudly on his radio and before the gangs would even take one step forward, they noticed the song and decided to call a truce. He joined the church as an ordained priest a few months later. Just goes to show you the power of the lyrics. My grandfather died in 93 but I’ll always remember him through this song.

You're right, Yes, it's the essence of the great 80's. The sound of this era was warm and cold at the same time, perfect for pop music. They don't make music like that anymore.
This sound ... is the really essence for the eighties? even close, man. I like A flock of Seagulls since "Modern love is authomatic", got the 45", but is really far from main 80's influence, only is one of the hundred streams.
MAN THAT GUITAR GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS!! OMG I WISH THE EIGHTES NEVER ENDED!!! IT SUCKS KNOWING IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!! I WAS BORN IN 1980 SO IM PROUD OF THAT! GOD BLESS THE 80'S THANKYOU!!

My teenage years were interesting , there was some great times , but then not so great but this music and groups that first started up '81-'83 the sound and lyrics were so awesome and has stayed with us I always go back and listen when feeling nostalgic ! I was 19 in 1982 and the music carried right through my 20's and it's magical.
Charlotte Priest if only I could go back in time to my teen years in the 80's. the world was full of hope. the only thing I look forward to now is retirement from the society enforced slavery that is work 😑
I agree thats when the changes happened I clearly remember the transition in 1989-1990 It was still decent in the 90s but not as soul soothing as the 80s
My dad died 1984 so sad he was young but i love this song. Cried many times.Have thar secret smile , and ne a mystery.Stay safe everyone life is so presious.
Paul Reynolds and the Edge have a similar sound with all the echo, reverb and delay. Such a modern and haunting sound. I love and miss this so much. I need to start learning some of this type of stuff myself. I was a total Metal Head when these guys were popular and still loved them. I guess their music spoke to me.
This is an amazing song, stands the test of time, a very under rated band at the time, lucky enough to have seen them 3 times recently and they were awesome live
My 14 yr old self met my 30 yr old self when I visited Giant’s Causeway in ‘99. I had my walkman on with the Best of Flock of Seagulls while walking around the incredibly beautiful area! 😍 Music is my time machine.
I listen it for the very first time during a night of 1984. So cool song! Well, all music in 1984 was perfect. I was 17, and I still feel the same, I'm 17 forever.
I agree. And yet the only synths in this track are the drums and a lead behind the guitar solo. I always think of them as a synth band but they go really light on them here.
What a fantastic old song. I'm not sure I fully appreciated living in the 80's as I was living through them, but the memories get sweeter and sweeter. Great video.
They were masters of the creation of simple, memorable melancholic pop tunes. This is what the Synthwave movement is trying to evoke (largely successfully) through the concept of imagined memory and nostalgia. I don't normally overthink or conceptualize retro genres and what journalists say about them but I think many of the Synthwave artists/mixes have nailed that feeling. This track is the real thing of course!
I love the subtle and simplistic elegance of the guitar work. I didn't really appreciate this stuff in the 80s. Glad it turned out to be worth rediscovering.
@@Cherokeelion It's a shame Paul Reynolds couldn't expand on his guitar ability and his ear for music. I read he was pretty chewed up by the industry. He was pretty young in the 80s.

A flock of seagulls, the cars, prefab sprout, def leppard, cutting crew. The marvellous soundtrack of our youth.
Dokken
The voice from 80s.....aaahhh nostalgia❤❤❤
This sound is the essence of the eighties, this time of memories
You're right, Yes, it's the essence of the great 80's. The sound of this era was warm and cold at the same time, perfect for pop music. They don't make music like that anymore.
This sound ... is the really essence for the eighties? even close, man. I like A flock of Seagulls since "Modern love is authomatic", got the 45", but is really far from main 80's influence, only is one of the hundred streams.
TheItalodancers Amen brother!
MAN THAT GUITAR GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS!! OMG I WISH THE EIGHTES NEVER ENDED!!! IT SUCKS KNOWING IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!! I WAS BORN IN 1980 SO IM PROUD OF THAT! GOD BLESS THE 80'S THANKYOU!!
Good memories are indelible
I am 55 years old and have been listening to this awesome song 🎵 now for a long time, and I am not stopping now ❤
Same.
Every song from "A Flock of Seagulls" never fails to color and make me enjoy making boring days better.
Im 52 the best time it was in the 80s 😊
I'm 53, and I hear ya.
That wave crashing at the end is perfect

Saludos!!
What an elegant and simple music. So many memories come to me in this moment with this band. Love them.
Beautiful melodies
The 80's should never had ended.
Great..great song.
An example for the rest of the 80's songs.
OMG- so true. If the 80's could last forever...
@@Zknwlf The 80's actually do last forever, as long as there are people who still remember and listen to these songs
My teenage years weren't the greatest. But one great thing about being a teenager in the 80's was the music...
same, those years sucked for me, except for the timeless music
My teenage years were interesting , there was some great times , but then not so great but this music and groups that first started up '81-'83 the sound and lyrics were so awesome and has stayed with us I always go back and listen when feeling nostalgic ! I was 19 in 1982 and the music carried right through my 20's and it's magical.
Well said 👍💪
Charlotte Priest if only I could go back in time to my teen years in the 80's. the world was full of hope. the only thing I look forward to now is retirement from the society enforced slavery that is work 😑
Hey, I'm an 80s teenager.
The more you live the more you love the 80s
Paul was so underrated, listening to him again after all these years I’ve come to appreciate how good he was. Take me back to the 80’s !
the older i get the more i relize how much i mis the 80s what a great time i wish i could go back .
steven kerry TOTALLY Steven
I never knew listening to these oldies would make me cry.. China crisis... Ice house.. Flock of seagulls.. Nick Kershaw..
i miss them :/
Yeah man, the more you live the more you love the 80s
Well if you listen and watch this, aren't you back in the 80s for a moment? I am.

I put this song for a mistake in a machine of music, the best mistake.
I am 56 and still listening to this weird music. 🎶🎸👍My car is ready to travel everyday with 80's music playing❤
And mine
Always!
Su coche es una máquina del tiempo... 🤘🎉
Yessss!😍
I was born 75 but spent my childhood in the 80’s the best decade and the best time of my life. You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone…
AMoooo Esa Voz ese ESTILO ese PUERTOMAR de fondo 😘🤲✨️ salu2 dsd Peumo Chile 🇨🇱 Los mejores A FLOCK
Perhaps humanity peaked at the 80s. Modern enough to make life easier but old school enough to live in the moment and make the best out of life.
I agree thats when the changes happened I clearly remember the transition in 1989-1990 It was still decent in the 90s but not as soul soothing as the 80s
Paul Reynolds what a great lead guitarist of the 80s top man
Exactly and I believe he was a only a teenager. Shear guitar genius.
Underrated.
Hi I recommend the song 'Where I Come From' by Robert Nix
@@wadefarrell7742 Hi I recommend taking a listen to the song 'Where I Come From' by Robert Nix
I used to only like “I Ran”, but after hearing this song, you can run, nightmare, and others. You truly appreciate them.
Takes you back to somewhere special!
I was born in 2002 but i wish i was born in the 80's. The music is just the best
It was great, endless top music coming out like this every week.
I was born in the mid-90s & I appeciate 80s music.
I went in this time and was the best.
You had to be born in the 70's to really appreciate the sound of the 80's 🙂
You meant early 70's if you'd enjoy 80's
My dad died 1984 so sad he was young but i love this song. Cried many times.Have thar secret smile , and ne a mystery.Stay safe everyone life is so presious.
🌹❤️
Paul Reynolds and the Edge have a similar sound with all the echo, reverb and delay. Such a modern and haunting sound. I love and miss this so much. I need to start learning some of this type of stuff myself. I was a total Metal Head when these guys were popular and still loved them. I guess their music spoke to me.
Similar here was and still consider myself a punk but always had a soft spot for this band just great melodies and lyrics I guess
Yeah I had a soft spot for these guys too
This is an amazing song, stands the test of time, a very under rated band at the time, lucky enough to have seen them 3 times recently and they were awesome live
My 14 yr old self met my 30 yr old self when I visited Giant’s Causeway in ‘99. I had my walkman on with the Best of Flock of Seagulls while walking around the incredibly beautiful area! 😍
Music is my time machine.
I listen it for the very first time during a night of 1984. So cool song! Well, all music in 1984 was perfect. I was 17, and I still feel the same, I'm 17 forever.
It is the greatest year in music.

This may be the Gullsiest song in their catalog. It has every one of their signature sounds - space, future, dream, ballad, guitar, technology, love.
Im very grateful that i was born in the 60's because music from 70's, 80's, is priceless today's teenagers did not recognize them.
all I can say is that they were and still are one of he most authentic groups and I thank them for that originality

Why is all their songs so good?
They were masters of the creation of simple, memorable melancholic pop tunes. This is what the Synthwave movement is trying to evoke (largely successfully) through the concept of imagined memory and nostalgia. I don't normally overthink or conceptualize retro genres and what journalists say about them but I think many of the Synthwave artists/mixes have nailed that feeling. This track is the real thing of course!

Hi I recommend the song and video 'Where I Come From' by Robert Nix
Absolutely love this song.
OMG, I wish I could back in time...Damn
This was the 80’s all about, the best in everything
pura verdad😢
I can really smell the sea when I hear this song. Glory 80s.
Love this video. i'm a 90's baby but i love this song and band.

I love the subtle and simplistic elegance of the guitar work. I didn't really appreciate this stuff in the 80s. Glad it turned out to be worth rediscovering.
Hi I recommend a new 80's style song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
The guitar interplay is fantastic isnt it
@@Cherokeelion It's a shame Paul Reynolds couldn't expand on his guitar ability and his ear for music. I read he was pretty chewed up by the industry. He was pretty young in the 80s.
I agree wholeheartedly to thatv
Liverpool sound of the 80's , so good today as it always has been
These guys are gifts to my generation and those to come!
Thanks for this song! Awesome times back in the 80's!

I haven’t heard this song before but I’m really loving listening to it.
Well done guys.
Keep listening.. it gets better ❤️
That final chord with the breaking wave, was the money shot! This is my favorite FoS song.
My favorite FOS song. Excellent guitar work. They didn't have a lot of hits but the ones they had were really great!
