To be fair, Ford has tried to crack down on some of this. Unfortunately, they have not always been terribly effective. It is harder to solve than you might think, which is why many legacy automakers are interested in getting rid of them, especially because the old mom and pop types are increasingly gone anyway.

Only $2,000? That's nothing compared to how much they usually rip people off.

It’s exactly why the dealership model in the US needs to go away. They all do it from E-bikes to Pickup trucks.

That’s why the msrp is so high is because of greed. They saw the dealers mark up these cars raking in the money. The manufacturer raised that to pocket it themselves. Greed upon greed.

The US typically allows a Dealer Bump Sticker or ADM Sticker, for dealer installed items. So, many dealers will add $499 for Window Tinting from two windows, which is 100% mark up, Pin-Striping for $599 and many other stupid things. The best on in my opinion is Nitrogen Filled Tires $399… if you go to Costco you and deflate the tires on your can and re-inflate for FREE with Nitrogen. LOL, So many BS fees.

This can’t happen in Australia. If they advertise a vehicle at a price that is the price you pay when you walk in unless you opt to buy some optional extras like floor mats or roof racks whatever they advertise the price at that is what you will pay.
All prices in Australia include taxes and delivery charges.

You’re right the last couple of times I’ve been to the United States. I feel as though I’m constantly trying to have my money scammed out of me by corporations and even small business. The cost over there to just have a simple meal is outrageous.

Summer 1968 took a part time job selling furniture
The store erected a tent in the parking lot with signs saying “FIRE SALE”. It was all a lie
I watched a customer looking at a stack of mattresses, each with a huge price tag attached. As the salesman talked to the buyer he casually removed the price tag and folded it up.
He literally sold that customer a mattress at a higher price that the tags attached to every mattress in the stack.
    Buyers are easy to distract

It is very sad. Many dealerships, especially during covid, tacked on extra bogus fees. I decided to purchase my leased Toyota in 2022, because we had positive equity. The dealership attempted to tack on a bogus "lease purchase package" that I firmly refused.

dealership in texas had a car listed for 32k or 30k(i forget which). I went in and they quoted me 40k total. With over 5k in bogus fees/add ons. They claimed "all dealerships do this"/"these add ons are so important"/etc/etc. And that the fees are "mandatory", and that i couldn't get them removed... SHOCKER(NOT!) I got them down to 34k total. I walked out with no car.

The problem is that bought politicians force legacy automakers to only sell their vehicles to these middlemen. They're not allowed to sell their own products to their own customers. So there has been no other choice but to buy from these middlemen. That's called a monopoly or at the very least a cartel.
Thank God for Tesla and Rivian. This monopoly/cartel must, and will, end.
