    we dont want more technology, we want a truck we can afford. We don't want a truck that Ford advertises around 30k to cost 50k at the dealership. Americans need a 20ish k pickup that does nothing but drive, have a bed and tow very light trailers.

    • @jmpersic
      @jmpersic หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Some say there could be benefits, or it won't be so bad. Here's the thing: EVERY control you repetitively adjust while driving should be intuitive, tactile, and to the greatest degree possible, NOT require you to remove your eyes from the road. I'm typically against expanding any kind of regulation, but this is an area where auto manufacturers evidently cannot police themselves, to the detriment of everyone's safety. Clearly we need regulation in this area. Putting everything in a screen is a cost-savings measure (Hello Tesla), but drivers mostly hate it and makes our roads less safe. I don't have to look at anything but the road when I adjust the climate controls on my current Maverick. Not so on the new one, and that's a huge step backwards for this model.

  •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +57

    Be careful, people. The demands of the public take the vehicle away from what it originally was. A cost affective little truck. The AWD Hybrid is amazing. But, if you keep going it'll no longer be affordable. Midsize trucks used to be affordable, but the increased options and demands removed that desirable point. Now, this seems to be happening to the small trucks.

    When the 2022 Maverick came out, it was $22k with hybrid standard. Now it's $26k? Wow! None were available in 2022 without the excessive dealer markup. So I ordered one in XLT. Due to supply issues, they couldn't build a 2023 for us. So they built a 2024 instead and we took delivery in Jan 2024. The 2024 came standard with a 2.0L and hybrid was a $1500 increase. Also the 2024 models came with a $2000 increase. Ford honored our original hybrid order and price. I then ordered and installed the Ford accessories, fender trim, tailgate lettering decal, hood and lower door decal, tailgate drop shock, and roll-up tonneau cover. My wife gets an average of 45mpg. I was not expecting 4,000 pounds towing with the hybrid. That is very impressive. Some will claim that's not enough power for that weight but they weren't around in the '80s when we were doing more with less. Obviously you wouldn't want to tow that much every day, but for a few times per year for most people it should be adequate.

    • @AHungryHunky
      @AHungryHunky 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +28

      People always complain about power. I grew up driving S10s with the V6 that was developed in the 80s and it barely put out 190hp and that and the 3 speed was enough. Now we have people claiming the new Chevy Traverse with its 300hp turbo 4 is "anemic." My opinion is that it is a "skill issue" as the kids would say.
      If you can't figure out how to make 200 horses move your crap, you either have to much crap or are a poor cowboy.
      Edit: and to put my money where my mouth is. My wife drives a Hyundai Venue with its tiny little N/A engine that only puts out a little over 120hp. That little thing took me, my wife, our kid and all the things we needed for a week-long vacation 7 hours away from our home and across the Appalachian mountains. Not once did I think it needed more power on the drive. Never failed to keep highway speed, even with our luggage on the roof effecting it's aerodynamics and even up hill managed to maintain speeds of 75mph.

So they have added things the people that were genuinely excited for this option never asked for. I can understand how the people that payed 50% over MSRP felt like they needed more. The current one NOW starts at 24k, this new one at 26k, that's 'just' 2000 difference for some improvements, I don't see the issue. I think it's just a 'better' vehicle now. Also, all the recalls it had were the first ones, something 'normal' on NEW cars, but it's also based on a well known platform around the world (Focus IV/Kuga), and the 2.0 EcoBoost engine is a well known engine that it's been for years around the world.. I don't think is like a GM product (look at the Traverse issues). I think the Maverick was very cool at 21k but honestly it's still a good buy since it's less expensive than the Escape or Bronco Sport, so if you want it to use it as a family hauler you can at a better price.

I will say the cluster and touch screen were a much needed upgrade. Only other big flaw on the interior IMO is the steering wheel controls. I’ve driven a maverick a few times and the controls are cheap and hard to press. They are just to small. I’m used to my f150 having large buttons. I understand the price will go up by adding these things but the fact the msrp went up $4k from 22-24’ just shows it’s all about the profit at the end of the day. Interesting that the $20,000 number is somewhat inflation realistic and yet misses the point. Back in my day😂 I actually bought new a Toyota 1992 pickup ultra base truck. The '92 MSRP $8,998, inflation adjusted to 2024 = $20,163. I thought that truck was great back when but it would be a HORRIBLE truck in 2024. If Toyota put out the same truck today.... no rational person would pay $20k. In my opinion the Maverick is an amazing value even when comparing it to nostalgic myths like the Toy pickup (before tacos)

      @ITSANGEL. 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's not dumb to say you can buy an f150 for that price because it's true this was supposed to start at 18 K and up Ford is dropping the ball on what this was supposed to initially be as an affordable bare pickup. If it's hitting 40 grand and up yes I can get an f150 for that I'm going to get my money's worth . You would be dumb not to.

    • @Scout819
      @Scout819 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ITSANGEL. Yeah, they definitely need to fix the price overlap between models- hell, even between trims. Only reason to get a smaller truck at that price is if you genuinely don't have the space for that smaller truck. But to play devils advocate- why get an F150 when you can get an F250 for the same price? Or even a 350 for the price of a 250? Or a 450 for the price of a 350 if you're willing to give up a few options, depending on the price. See where I'm going with it?
      The other thing to consider- if you're a truck buyer who doesn't care about payload and towing, (which they have done studies, the majority of people don't even use it as a truck, but that's another issue), a $45 for example is "F150 territory", but a $45K F150 is essentially a base model, with a few options, while a $45K Ranger is a higher trim(XL/STX F150 vs respectably loaded XLT Ranger). Unfortunately, the fancy stuff is what the majority of truck buyers care about(as much as TH-cam commenters love to puff out their chest and act like the majority- not saying things shouldn't be different, but that's how it is). And before we go new vs used, I'm talking strictly new vs new. Apples to apples.
      But with that said, yeah I'm in the same boat. $40K, I'm *at least* going to get a Ranger, if not a used F150. IMO the price hikes are killing what made the Maverick a really appealing option.

    Really wish you could get the tremor in hybrid, and you can only tow 2k. (Half the MPG, Half towing capacity) You can’t even get an FX4 in the hybrid!?
    I’m looking at a lariat AWD that I will just lift and do my own off road mods. Big bummer I can’t just get a hybrid off roader. I want that MPG over anything, but I really want that locking diff.
    Also kind of crazy that will put me out over $40k… that’s actually crazy. I’m looking at some lightly used full size pick-ups for that price. The only reason I’m still looking the maverick is that MPG and small size for day to day use. But Ford could have kept their high end to $35k and that would feel much more appropriate. They launched 3 years ago for under $20k, that same base is now 35% more expensive 3 years later.

      I owned a Supercrew 6.5' bed F150 for 9 years. I wont own another full size truck unless I absolutely have to. I traded for a Chevy Bolt and a Toyota Land Cruiser and both can be more useful than my truck was in many ways. I bought 10' piping from home depot the other day and strapped it to the roof rack on my Bolt. Those pipes would have been hanging out of the back of my truck 2-3'. And it cost me 1/10th the price to drive to home depot. The ONLY thing my truck was better at was if I needed to haul something very large in the bed, in which case I can put a 4x8' utility trailer behind my bolt in about 5 minutes and have even more space and payload capacity than my truck. I remember the debate back when this truck was a mystery and it was rumored it would be around $20k. The 2.0 Ecoboost and hybrid were obvious but some people thought it'd have the 1.5 3cyl Ecoboost to make that price. The hybrid being the actual base was beyond bargain. Now the 2.0 Ecoboost is standard. Nobody can name me one vehicle currently that is this size and has 250 horsepower standard cause it doesn't exist. That's a bargain these days. You could get a heavier Santa Cruz with 188 horsepower that is not even adequate.
