Inception 2. The Day the Empire State Building Dodged a Bullet

  • A Boeing 767 is on an inexorable collision course with the Empire State Building. The imminent tragedy makes time appear to freeze. But reality doesn't always conform to our understanding of it, and not all our experiences happen in wakefulness. But that doesn't make them any less real... or any less disturbing.
    Stepping away from the somewhat theatrical tone, I wanted to mention that although this is a bit outside the usual content I post on Magnitudes, I wanted to share it because I believe the movie in question (Inception) deserves a sequel. And because I wanted to pay my humble (and somewhat humorous) tribute to the first film that dared to tackle something as complex as bending portions of cities at that time. While these types of effects have been seen repeatedly in Marvel movies, especially in Doctor Strange, I dare say they haven't achieved quite the same quality. Ultimately, I've posted this because I think this whimsical yet thought-provoking ramble turned out quite cool and might be of interest to you.
    The next video will be one of the usual ones. A comparison between the John Hancock Center and the Empire State Building.
    See you around. Oh, and if you're one of those who regularly visit the channel but haven't subscribed yet, please do: don't be naughty, and subscribe now.

    I honestly thought I was just about to see a mini documentary about how america saved one of its most important landmarks by using post 9/11 counter terrorism measures. I didn’t expect that

    😲 That was crazy! Like scary-crazy. 😬 Just curious ...what the heck made you think of that? (I’ve been seeing 9/11 videos all week...so it was a little freaky.) I like the ending though - - a lot. Excellent rendering of NYC.
    PS - Was the NYC background also in Blender? And did you render all those buildings? Because that looks really fantastic - great work.

      Thank you very much. Honestly, I was eager to upload something different, and I thought a video like this, but with an ending that eases that tension about planes and buildings, could be good. Maybe it's also somewhat subconscious, I couldn't tell you. Regarding the rendering: yes, it's all in Blender, but my poor computer was already smoking 🤕😁

      @@Magnitudx Nice. 😎👍🏼 You did ALL of those buildings in the background? Was that from a template? Or maybe some kind of enhanced rendition of google maps?
      PS - - you know what would be cool . . . In the 1930’s when ESB was built - - the mast was initially intended for airships / balloons / blimps . . . It didn’t work out bc the wind made it too difficult - - but that could be a cool video. (I believe they did something like that in the movie Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow (?)

      No, no, most of the background comes from Google Earth with some mesh and texture processing to lighten it up a bit. I only modeled (or imported) the buildings that would be more visible. The airship dock on the Empire State Building's spire, I believe, was only tested once. But yes, it would be cool to create a simulation. I'll make a note of it.

      @@Magnitudx Do you know if there are imports for the buildings in lower manhattan? (like if someone wanted to make a realistic animation of that area?)

      There are plenty of models available for Lower Manhattan, but the only worthwhile ones come at a price. What you can get for free is quite subpar, and if you want even minimal quality at a medium distance, what you can obtain from Google Earth wouldn't suffice. This one, for example, is a pretty good model (I've been tinkering with it for a while, and it's better than it looks) at a mid-range price: www.turbosquid.com/es/3d-models/3d-model-manhattan-lower-tip-1149894

    I'd love to see the One World Trade Center in Bogotá Colombia, idk if you could do it in the downtown of Bogotá pls

    • @Magnitudx
      @Magnitudx  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would like to be able to do it, but Bogotá doesn't have 3D elevation in Google Earth, and I need that for the background. If you'd like another location that does have it, I'd be happy to do it.
