It also even still seems like an incomplete site, to which it technically is but the way they built the original World Trade Center and how everything just connected together on that land was just perfect. In my opinion nothing seems to just click now, nothing seems to match or anything. But the original World Trade Center, everything just matched perfectly. They were truly the best pieces of modern day skyscraper architecture the world has ever seen in my opinion. They were just so iconic. Now just a mere memory.
When the Twin Towers were first built, everyone thought they were ugly, and a gigantic eyesore on the NY skyline (especially from those who originally worked in Radio Row: which was demolished to build the said towers). But they eventually worked their way into people's hearts, and saw them as iconic staples of the city. When they were destroyed in the wake of tragedy, people then reevaluated their significance and gained an appreciation for them. I think the same thing will happen with the new WTC. The people who say things like "REBUILD THE TOWERS!", or "THEY'RE NOT THE SAME" _now_ , will eventually grow accustom to One World Trade, and see it as a symbol of rebirth, and a tribute to those we lost on that day.
That's exactly how I've been thinking about it. Having never seen the original WTC in person, I only ever knew the new one. I recently got to see One World Trade up close in person, and I think it is beautiful. My hope is more people come to appreciate it for what it is in time. It is an absolute masterpiece in it's own right, just like the original twins were.
People criticized the Twin Towers for being generic, and then are now criticizing the Freedom Tower for being generic and wished they still had the Twins. People don’t appreciate and value something until it’s gone. I grew up in a post-9/11 world as I was only a baby on that day, so all I know is the Freedom Tower and the construction of the building. I have an easier time appreciating it the way it is. Freedom Tower is beautiful and no one can convince me otherwise.
I think what people don’t understand is just rebuilding the 2WTC would be disrespectful to those who died, if they just made a replica. Making the 1WTC is more of a memorial than a rebuild. That is why I appreciate this design over a copy
I somewhat agree but you have to take into consideration that the memorial and WTC 1 have already been built the section. They would build the 2nd tower would not be close to where the original tower was. Now If they just built right over where the towers used to be that would be disrespectful but they haven’t built the second tower and I don’t really want them to Becuase the 1 World Trade Center won’t be “see the whole world” Becuase the 2nd tower would be blocking it. But until then they can’t make their minds Becuase they don’t need the new office space so maybe a smaller building could be built but that’s sadly not happening.
And I think those don’t understand that Building back a Copy But not an Exact Copy Better and Stronger etc. Would be Honoring as Well as it’s Saying They didn’t die to be replaced by random different stuff but to Carry On what they Worked and Lived in for Besides the same twin Towers can and Should be built again Somewhere else as it’s also a great Complex of space especially with overpopulation
The photo at 0:40 is so depressing, it's nearly like the exact opposite of David Monderer's photo from september 11th, which was taken before the attacks, and is one of the last known photos to have been taken of the original towers still in peace. The sky and overall atmosphere is now all gray and cloudy, much opposite to the sunny and clear sky on the morning of that day, and of course, the 2 most noticable giants are forever gone from the skyline. The fact they're both taken from pretty much the same angle really shows how diffrent it looks and feels.
16 acres. The twin towers overpowered the site so much, but when they were gone the scale of loss is visually unbearable. I'd have loved to see them rebuilt with a refined design, but at the same time I think the pools marking where they once stood as hallowed ground is most appropriate. I hope one day the twin towers will rise again, but it won't be on this site. And it certainly won't be the world trade center.
I love how you showed the evolution of both. It makes me a little bit emotional actually because you've shown what we once had but then you also showed us how we've rebuilt as a nation. The One WTC is slowly growing on me :)
That’s because it’s going through the same growing pains as the Twins. When they were built in 1973 they were criticised for being generic. But over time they grew on people and became American icons. The same thing is happening with One WTC.
Fun fact: In one of the 2001 One WTC building phases, you can see a brief instance of 3 original WTC entrances, stating that there was originally gonna be 3 WTC's instead of one renovated WTC. Meaning they planned to rebuild the whole thing with a bit of sneaky extras, but they quickly settled with One.
no he means the third building of the World Trade Center (Marriott Hotel) but they stopped before rebuilding twin towers again and when for the 1 WTC we know today
Fun fact which I think is true: after the attacks the port authority (I think) asked Marriott hotels if they wanted to rebuild the hotel in the exact same spot the exact same way since their lease was until 2094 but they declined the offer and “surrendered their premises” to make way for the 9/11 museum
the skyline will never be the same even as someone whos not american or never been just seeing the pictures with the twin towers where so iconic i wish they could have rebuilt them or made a scaled sown recreation of it just to still see those iconic buildings once more
I think the new WTC is starting to grow on people. It’s really the centerpiece of Lower Manhattan redevelopment, the amount of genius it must’ve took to convince people to not only WORK downtown again, but actually live there is insane. We will never forget those who were lost, but I believe the new complex gives people at least a glimpse of what downtown was like before the attacks. The observatory and PATH station is always bustling!
I saw a documentary that it showed how architects design the structure in a way that if another tragedy similar happened there would be a way for people to escape . Apparently they added layers and layers of thick steel around the staircases to protect them at all cost .
I love both versions equally. One day what I’d love for them to do is build a new set of classic-styled towers next to the new building. Respect is key however, and I do understand their reasoning for not rebuilding.

Knowing that the Empire State Building was the tallest building in Manhattan until the one World Trade Center was finished shows just how much of an impact the towers had, they were huge
I would love to go and see the new buildings, the memorial pools, and the museum. However, the current state of NYC scares me. I would fear for my safety every second I was there. It wasn't like that in 1979 when I visited there to celebrate New Years at Times Square to kick in the 1980s. I took lots of pics (8 albums worth) of my visit. Lots from the original WTC. And from Times Square that New Year's Eve. From videos I've seen, the place is beautiful. I would love to see the new, and take the very same 35mm camera I took on my original visit. I do too, but it was the way they were built, they were a frame 2 design, great for office space but if a plane hit it the building would only be up for like 1-2 hours
I just can't bring myself to call it the World Trade Center. For those of us around back then, the Twin Towers were the WTC. To me, it'll always be Freedom Tower. I use to think the name was cheesy, and maybe it is, but it embodies something new while also encapsulating a moment in time.
What they should have done is build another World Trade Center like the brand new one that they built but not to make the New York citizens mad and upset
God bless everyone, but its not a sin to say that those buildings were giant cinder blocks and this building exudes strength and beauty more than any skyscraper ive ever seen .
I still remember sitting in my living room with my brother watching cartoons and my dad coming in and saying there was a terrorist attack in new york and changed it to the news... Can't believe how much time has past.
It's interesting that 1 WTC's design sort of incorporates the original's square design at the very top. Even though it's all glass, it still has the visage of the original, kind of like mirroring what hasn't been there for more than 20 years now.
7:08 These photos demonstrate to us the spectacular engineering and architecture that New York City has. Did you know that the Empire State Building was built in the 1930s?!
Can't imagine an alternate universe where the original towers would just still be there when they were and New York would still be known for them. I just can't imagine that
As a New Yorker who remembers 9/11 like it was yesterday, I do miss the twin towers, but I gotta admit I like the new complex more, and I understand and agree with them decided not to build another tower
4:19 I feel like the Empire State Building seeing the one World Trade Center being built was like Welp I’m officially never gonna be the tallest building in New York again. But it was fun. For the first part at least
Fun Fact: One World Trade Center is NOT actually blue, It's really silver, most photos may give off the illusion that it is blue but in reality it's just the sky reflecting on the building's glass facade
The new WTC is honestly one of the ugliest buildings in the entire NYC skyline. The windows are mismatched, I can't stand those stupid circles on top of the building, the antenna anchors looks ridiculous, I could go on.. It looks cool at night when they light up the antenna with different colors but they hardly ever do that any more. I don't even like walking near it, I get strange vibes from that whole area. It's crazy that ONE building cost twice as much to build than the twin towers and the entire original WTC complex including the mall underneath even after adjusted for inflation.
All we have is a walling pool as a Australian that’s nothing more then pathetic. As long the twins are not rebuilt. It will just turn that part of Manhattan be seen a wailing pool for something that’s lost just rebuild the darn things. FFS. Or build them in Sydney or Melbourne where it’s not holy ground.
My parents had a picture of New York at the time and you could even light it up. I've never been to New York, but for me the Twin Towers were the symbol and landmark of New York. Many people want these 2 WTC Twin Towers to be rebuilt. I also think it would be better if they were rebuilt. I see problems because One WTC is there and where should the Twin Towers be? Back at Ground Zero? There is also an unfinished Two WTC, which is not yet finished or construction has been stopped. It would take up a lot of space and who would move into the Twin Towers again? That makes the whole thing difficult. Rebuilding WTC 1 and 2 only works with the security of One WTC and a lot of things would have to be done differently.
Te apoyo amigo , realmente me parese buena idea que lo reconstruyeran Pero en otra parte no en el monumento eso seria horrible Mejor en otro sitio de nueva york .
The first couple weeks of ground zero Especially the first couple days seemed like hell on earth I still can’t believe that terrorists were able to do that much damage
The Twin Towers were designed to complement each other. That's why they were heavily criticized, it's because they were meant to look "boring." Only when you place two of them side-by-side does it become interesting. The new 1WTC was designed to stand alone. Its unique anti-prismic glass design creates intrigue. Another identical tower would overload the senses and would probably not look good.
@@DragonsFan. My point was not that 1WTC is entirely unique, or that the building is more beautiful than other towers (which is subjective). My point was that its design is too complicated to function similarly to the towers of the original complex.
We aren’t always prepared we learn from mistakes and become stronger and braver from the tragedy’s we come across and smarter..(edit for a few seconds ago): the one world trade shows that we grew
Imagine your a WWII veteran saw all of your friends die and help build the world trade center and on your death bed your watching the news and watch the twin towers crumble. It would make you more sad then all the traumatic events you remember and went through.

Can't imagine an alternate universe where the original towers would just still be there when they were and New York would still be known for them. I just can't imagine that
The New York skyline looked so wrong when they were gone
As a New Yorker who remembers 9/11 like it was yesterday, I do miss the twin towers, but I gotta admit I like the new complex more, and I understand and agree with them decided not to build another tower
4:14: This picture is like the newbie somehow overthrowing the master.
Should’ve just played “One” by Aimee Mann.
Love how in about 2 to 3 years we just said “Well fuck that!” And decided to just make a unique and tall ass building. 😭😭
What’s the song called when it shows the twin towers after it collapsed
Akon Beautiful

I feel like the Empire State Building seeing the one World Trade Center being built was like
Welp I’m officially never gonna be the tallest building in New York again. But it was fun. For the first part at least
Fun Fact: One World Trade Center is NOT actually blue, It's really silver, most photos may give off the illusion that it is blue but in reality it's just the sky reflecting on the building's glass facade
Why you delete video about twin towers bruh
Almighty
The new WTC is honestly one of the ugliest buildings in the entire NYC skyline. The windows are mismatched, I can't stand those stupid circles on top of the building, the antenna anchors looks ridiculous, I could go on.. It looks cool at night when they light up the antenna with different colors but they hardly ever do that any more. I don't even like walking near it, I get strange vibes from that whole area.
It's crazy that ONE building cost twice as much to build than the twin towers and the entire original WTC complex including the mall underneath even after adjusted for inflation.
Well, at least we have those two pools that used to be the twin towers
Мне хотелось юы чтобы башни близнецы все еще стояли там
All we have is a walling pool as a Australian that’s nothing more then pathetic. As long the twins are not rebuilt. It will just turn that part of Manhattan be seen a wailing pool for something that’s lost just rebuild the darn things. FFS. Or build them in Sydney or Melbourne where it’s not holy ground.
Creo que hoy en día la mayoría de las personas no se atreverían a visitar ni trabajar en el nuevo World Trade Center 🙁😕
Da ansiedad
Never forget.
Yk what’s crazy people miss a building more than the people who died in the building
What’s with the music? Is it really necessary?
Talvez por que ele quis
The first couple weeks of ground zero
Especially the first couple days seemed like hell on earth
I still can’t believe that terrorists were able to do that much damage
eles vão reconstruir as torres gêmeas? 🙏🏼😩
Nunca irão
Não
Если не в другом месте
We'll miss the the world trade center
RIP : wtc. 1970s -2001
Good Work. 👍🏼
They should have built a twin for the freedom tower without an antenna
The plans for 2 WTC (right next door) still haven't been finalized... so it's still possible in the future...
Where would they put it
@@nba.prodzzz In the planned space for 2 WTC, across the street. Slightly too far away tbh, but would still be cool to have twin towers
Our wtc is back!
I hate this design so much I live across from it in jersey I see it every day
The old ones were cool. But the new one is so sharp. I wonder what the new one looks like with the old
I ate my whole plate of spaghetti watching this😋
Горизонт опустел без башен близнецов
POV: that one guy that hijacked the plane was born in 1970, he waited 30 years to do that
Without Twins the NYC's skyline isn't the same.
Just saying if they Survived they would get took down
No they wouldn’t… if they survived they would be staples of New York
@@WhitleyWelchsurvived as in never collapse or never been hit in the first place?
@@n8thanwithan8 never collapse
The evolution of one World Trade Center (2001-2024).
🇺🇸 always comes back 💪
Yeah with Fake ass excuse for resilience and strength and Optimism 💀
Like a big Middle finger to Ourselves and the victims😡
We aren’t always prepared we learn from mistakes and become stronger and braver from the tragedy’s we come across and smarter..(edit for a few seconds ago): the one world trade shows that we grew
Glass towers... sigh. Gone are the days of visionary people.
not comparable to the twin tower AT ALL!!
Imagine your a WWII veteran saw all of your friends die and help build the world trade center and on your death bed your watching the news and watch the twin towers crumble. It would make you more sad then all the traumatic events you remember and went through.

I think this one looks better. But I was just turned 2 when 9/11 happened so I don't have a bond with the old towers. 😅
They should rebuild the origininal towers this new one just doesn’t fit in
The New one is better
I was born around 10 years after 9/11 and i get it the skyline would look better with the twin towers but its still looks pretty nice
Also ive been to new york and seen the skyline so i know what it looks like
I really wish i could of seen the new york skyline in the 90s it seemed like amazing times
