Underground 2 on the GBA was most definitely a technological marvel for its time. It's insane how much effort was put into a game you could carry with wherever you go in the early-to-mid 2000s. My big brother played the heck out of it back then, along with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 on GBA.
Considering the specs of the GBA, it's actually impressive on how devs managed to port (albeit limited) NFS games, and somehow managed to make them look kinda decent! I'm looking forward to the "The Worst NFS Ever: Java Ports" video!
GBA Underground is a good time but I personally would’ve used sprites and scrolling track, like the GBA Mario Kart and OutRun games, so we have something that plays as well, and has as good a framerate, as those 2. When Sega arcade game Thunder Blade was ported to the NEC PC Engine, they worked around the console’s lack of sprite scaling by letting you move your helicopter up and down!
By watching this video makes me remember my childhood like I used to play all the NFS games that was presented here. On the other hand, as you grow older you'll notice the downsides of each games but as a kid you don't pay attention to those and just enjoyed the game. I remember there's a glitch in NFS Underground 1 or 2 where if you choose a lock car and press A for like 15 - 20 times you'll get to use that car, I remember doing that in Nissan 350z. But I am not entirely sure now since it's that was a long time ago.
The story for own the city is insane. Definitely recommend playing any of the versions fully (preferably the psp version since that's the most fun of the bunch)
Amazing video as aways blue, loved the little border to make it look like it was on a GBA and the certain cameo, also, the payback rating is just fact, keep the great work blue, I'll totally be looking forward for you review of the DS games (or of **that** DS game), thanks for entertaining us once more by going into those obscure games.
I remember getting underground 2 and thinking it was wack. Maybe cause i already had the real thing cause me and my pops were already on like version 2 of the turbo e36 328i. Which by 2007 was the worlds first to break the 1000whp mark and first to run 9s. That and being 15 i probably thought i was too cool for it.(yea im old)
The GBA port was actually pretty decent. I really enjoyed it as it pretty much played like a slow ps1 game. I still have my physical copy of it for GBA and ps2.
I think you'd be better off reviewing each game, or at least doing the PSP ones separately. PSP games can get pretty massive (in general, not just the NFS ports).
Fun fact: Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed was released in 2000, while the Game Boy Advance was released in 2001 (1 year after Porsche Unleashed’s release). So the GBA version of Porsche Unleashed was released in 2004 (even though it has a 2003 copyright.)
The GBA ports actually look much better than I thought they would, and they are definitely technically impressive... but man they look like they would be hard to play, especially the earlier ones.

Porsche Unleashed has way more cars to unlock and they actually start feeling different as you go along - it is just a massive pain to do unlock them and requires hours of grinding in Evolution mode. One of the cars has a massive glitch that allows you to accelerate forever, so... Cool. (Trust me, as the poor soul who actually did a speedrun of the GBA Porsche Unleashed at SGDQ once and has spent waaaaay too much time playing it).

The reason underground 2’s music was so terrible was probably because they had to use that storage for other parts of the game. Everything else got better for the cost of bad music

I have the GBA version of Need for Speed Underground and although it’s nowhere near as good as the game I enjoyed on 2 of my mates’ Xboxes back in the day, it is still a decent game. I personally think they should’ve instead made it with sprites and use a lot of the GBA’s color palette. That way, we would’ve gotten something with good trickery and as good a framerate as Mario Kart Super Circuit! One ESPECIALLY good thing about GBA Underground (also Global VR’s arcade effort): it does NOT feature the Lostprophets song or car from the home console versions! Why do I feel the need to point this out? The lead singer of said Welsh band is a child sex offender! While you can turn the song off in the home console versions, the presence of a band-branded car is REALLY unsettling! How will I explain this to my kid(s) if I ever have one/any? Hope there are hackers out there who can make fan-patches that reskin the car with PS2, Xbox or Gamecube branding!

Since I believe Eddie is the final race in the GBA UG1 underground mode since I don’t think Melissa Eddie’s Girl Friend is in the GBA version of UG1 only the mainline versions of UG1 on the PS2, the original Xbox and the Nintendo GameCube.
Ah yes, Synthesized voices on the GBA, My Favorite
They still control better then nfsmw ds lol. I had nfs underground 2 on gba.
Bro ofc did does
Sensory sweep did a shit job
as usual, great video!
you are one of the better videogame reviewers, thanks for creating such awesome content!!
Da pra sentir o sotaque brasileiro a quilômetros hahaha. Ótimo video, mano. Keep up with the good work!
muito obrigado!
I can said these ports basically a discount version that even it free you still want to get refund.Good job btw
I also like to see you review the og NFS era as well (from1st game to Hot Pursuit 2)
definitely will!
I miss the old realistic 3D castor
NFS II SE needs to be next and look at tha PC version of Porsche Unleashed
also those GBA ports are awful as well lol
I’m so happy that u reached 17.1k from 500 and I wish the best for you
Hell yeah! thank you so much!
These games were really impressive for the platform they ran on but there is not much reason to play them today besides curiosity
Also Underground came out before Porsche Unleashed on the GBA
And you forgot to mention that Carbon has wingmen through they are pretty much useless
You're right! I even had footage of my drafter pushing me out of the road to draft me
damn, lost opportunity
Yea the ds version was one of my ds games. Literally unplayable even if you tried. Its just so dumb to time every corner for like a second and then traffic comes and you cant do anything because you need to steer so far in advance.
sounds like I'm in trouble
Pocketeers also developed the ds port of underground 2
Holy shit I didn't expect to see LEXX here
same
Wait till you see the java ports!
TL:DW - They arent that bad
agreed.
I feel like the psp nfs games could warrant a full video each i still play them to this day lol
bet!
Honestly it's not their fault
Nintendo Consoles are always the weakest
Now imagine a handheld console from Nintendo😂
Making Racing or Open World Games for Nintendo Consoles is a mistake
you're right lol it's actually impressive though!
the NFS GBA games are fun in their own rights i will give them that, there is some fun to be had in these games tbh if i'm ever going back to handheld NFS it's Carbon: Own the City on DS and PSP and Underground Rivals on PSP and Pro Street on the DS, Carbon: Own the City on DS surprised me tho it's a very solid racer for the DS and also a very solid NFS handheld game another thing that turned me away from the GBA and DS versions of Most Wanted besides playing like complete crap THERE IS NO NOS UPGRADES AT ALL
also for the DS NFS games it's your choice but i say play them for a bit cause you have 5 NFS games to get through on the DS: Underground 2, Most Wanted, Carbon: Own the City, Pro Street and lastly Undercover, minus one of the game modes in Pro Street DS i can see you like Carbon: Own The City and Pro Street the most out of the DS NFS games
You forgot nitro & nitro x
@@oli_gordon Nitro is the Wii game Nitro X is the DS version and LOL i honestly forgot that version was a thing
@@darkprincesora8091 actually nitro x was a dsi exclusive
@@oli_gordon i own nitro but i havent played it in soo long and last time i played the DS version was in 2014 lol so yea i mostly forgot about the DS version
The Best Racing game for GBA is V-Rally 3 (especially for the cockpit view in championship)
Americans review in every racing game=Worst Racing Game Ever
Can´t wait to see the Ds and PSP Ports
