Dammit I played these games so no one else has to ever again
ProStreet and Carbon were legit great though
Hi eden :l
I thank you for you service Mr Eden.
Is the guy that plays Gran turismo 4 without Japanesse cars and been the only one that 100% flatout 3 .
Having played most of "the worst NFS games" according to the community, i guarantee you, Most Wanted is the worst of all time, worse than all versions of The Run, Nitro and Undercover. Even Payback and No Limits at least had good atmospheres, soundtracks and in-race gameplay
After seeing that someone called Kacey, that tolerated most of these "bad games" including Undercover for Wii/PS2 didn't want to finish it, i tried and i felt like i was going to vomit if i contunued, few minutes after starting the 10th chapter. And i called myself "the 4th gaming masochist i know" ater that passed
@@LotsOfToubleUsuallySerious bro Undercover ps2 is decent I've 100% it
"The good part is that you'll never have a problem with understeering, because you'll be doing donuts at 60 MPH" 😂
for real tho
“Just get NFS Prostreet, even the DS version is good,”
-Dustin Eden, 2023
I actually went about ripping some 3d models from the DS version of Most Wanted. The reason the cars look so bad is they mapped THE WHOLE BODY to a tiny coloured square, if you have GOOD lighting and materials, that's fine. And I mean, you'd need AT LEAST a ~PS4 to get away with that, even then it might not look super great. Compared to using a photo / drawn area on the side of the car to represent details visually, it has a lot of baked in shading and baked in detail like the door handles. This is how lot of games did the visuals. But they were so cheap they didn't even bother with that. As a test, I did render a nicely detailed metallic material on the car in Blender, and it doesn't look bad. Not amazing, but it's not terrible. But it's also not real time, I tried to see the positive notes, and.. Even diving into the 3D side, I can't find anything redeeming about the Most Wanted DS port.
Also the Underground 2 thing with barriers vanishing is just a backface culling issue, not letting you see the back of the polygon. Probably for performance, but I'm not sure if it would do much.
As for ProStreet, the vinyls are billboards, basically just 2D planes near the car so they appear they are on the car on the low res original, plus it saves space since you would need a whole lot of more body textures which takes up even more space, compared to textures with a transparency.
I just want to ask, how did you rip the 3D models from DS Most Wanted ? An acquaintance of mine is somewhat interested with the race tracks.
Kacey made a really great video about the making of the Most Wanted DS port and after hearing everything about how troubled the development was (Jackass and Happy Feet games too) it makes a lot more sense of how broken it was fundamentally. Long story short, people make better products when they're actually paid for it
I'll definitely watch that one, must have missed it
@@BlooTeg I was expecting a "lol this game is bad" video but instead it was a surprisingly in depth look on the company itself, definitely worth a watch
I need to look into this, thank you!
I have a theory about the car models in the Most Wanted port:
Since they do have better car models already ingame, there's two possibilities:
The cars we see on the Menu are just pre-rendered (I haven't seen enough of the game to think otherwise) OR what we are playing as are Low LOD versions of the actual models. But I have no idea of how a glitch in which only renders the Low LOD models could even happen-
I had a friend growing up who owned a copy of Carbon for the DS. He said the cartridge accidentally went through his washing machine, but it made the game look clearer
Carbon and Prostreet DS Is Dustin Approved So Safe To Play
nice.
I salute you for going through this for our entertainment!
Thank you kind sir

Btw, Nitro on DS had an expanded version released for the DSi called Nitro-X. It seemed super rare since there's like almost no record of its existence. Luckily, in the recent years, some people managed to archive the game and now the ROM can be downloaded.
Wait for real? As a huge Nitro DS fan (exactly) I NEED to find out more about it.
@@feder28 Yep. I remember searching for a ROM of that but nothing came out, until somebody uploaded a EU ROM, which I immediately downloaded, which was the right decision since it disappeared. Good thing someone managed to find a US ROM and uploaded it.
I remeber Nitro-X and i tried to find ROM for it, but i coukd not find it
Damn, Gran Turismo on the PS1 had better car models (and probably shadows too) than Most Wanted for the DS
Star Fox for the SNES looked better than that
Even twisted metal 1 have better car models!
The reason why Underground wasn’t made for the Nintendo DS, because Need For Speed Underground came out in 2003, while the Nintendo DS came out in 2004. So they had to make a DS port of Underground 2, one year after the console game’s release.
The Golf jitter in ProStreet is an emulation bug, never had it happen on native hardware, and I got that mf to 220 mph kek
Good to know that the console experience is better than melon or DeSmuME
I absolutely agree with everything you said about these games. However, I'd like to add few things about Prostreet and Carbon OtC.
DS version of Prostreet actually has *more* race modes than the PC and home console versions of the game - original has 10, while DS version has 18 (+ Hydraulics minigame as 19th game mode). The handling problem you mentioned about the late-game cars is actually because you need to upgrade them properly to actually make them good (I remember stock versions of few cars being horrible to drive unless you invest in their upgrades). Ford GT is the best stock car in the game, while a fully upgraded Corvette is by far the best car you can have. Also, choosing the right spoiler for your car can make a huge difference in how the car handles. A little known fact about the game is that it actually has FMV cutscenes on the cart, but the devs rushed the game to the store and left a bug that made the game automatically skip all cutscenes. :( Only the Korean version of the game has the cutscenes playing properly, as it uses a different in-game overlay.
NfS: Carbon OtC is my favorite Need for Speed game on the DS. One thing you didn't mention about the game were the time manipulation mechanics - where you could slow down time or even rewind it after a crash. Iirc, they're unlocked after finishing the 4th zone in career mode. I also had so much fun with the custom vinyls - with Porky Pig busting out of the car's hood being my personal favorite of all of the ones I made. And here's a fun fact: GBA NfS games only let you choose from few pre-made cars in multiplayer and didn't let you use the ones you customized yourself in the game's career mode. DS version of Carbon, however, lets you use cars with *all* of the career customizations - custom vinyls included. :)
I actually managed to 100% Most Wanted DS. I don’t know I feel about having that accomplishment.
Also I love Carbon and Nitro on DS
that is amazing, I'm impressed you're still alive after that
I couldn't. Even with my broken perception of what's good, when i was a kid, i enjoyed Nitro and The Run (for Wii) and still play them religiously, i enjoyed Undercover on the Wii when i picked it up to play last week, despite the glitches and the frustratingly agressive cops. But even after this, i couldn't finish Most Wanted for DS and i genuinely thought i was going to vomit if i played more of it
those are the ones i grew up with on the ds, loved both of them
Honestly, I feel like the DS ports of these NFS Games were very unnecessary considering how unpopular they were and how troubling development of NFS games were back then. I believe that EA should of really heavily focused more on the main platforms (Xbox, PlayStation, and PC ports) as those were the platforms that many NFS fans played on and it was mainstream. I think it would have been more appropriate if EA used the studios who made the DS games to help out Blackbox as they often had very little development time for their projects and little manpower.
Bro this channel has easily become one of my favorites this year, the content my dude BlueTag puts out is so genuine, keep up the hard work, man! All your effort is absolutely paying off 👌🏼
thank you!
RE: The barrier visible only from one side, that's the result of backface culling, which is used by most 3D systems to save GPU resources.
Played nitro on the DS and Undercover just once on the DS, I got to say that nitro just feels very dream like, how cars does flips to overtake a car, doing wheelies to avoid roadblock and many more stunts, it’s like If Micheal bay was on drugs and made a NFS stunt game (yes he also made the trailer for the run) it is just WAY different, Undercover I just tried once and I remember driving a BMW then getting spotted by the police and then failing the mission, the DS (and 3DS) is an amazing console and is like a small Nintendo laptop, btw I haven’t played the other ones but Nitro is just memories.
I'll definitely play some other DS games in the future!

I don't know, but I think the "live-action" cutscene with the M3 GTR in the DS Most Wanted is actually a CGI render with realistic shader effects. Also, it uses the same low poly model from the home console and PC versions.

I loved Prostreet on my DS so much and still look back at it fondly
I really like the way he chose nissan 240sx as a starter car just like i did in my ps2 back then
hell yeah.
In my Emulator for android which i was playing carbon with it in 2016 was an option called de blur
Did they just use MS Paint to make the car models? XD that BMW badge is perfection rofl.
I have to say, i played and finished every nfs game except nitro on ds, an pro street was never having this kind of issues you had
Really looking forward to to PSP ports (I'm assuming they are next) since I owned a lot of NFS games on the PSP.
With regards to Nitro specifically, I gotta be honest…that is exactly the sort of wacky nonsense I’d expect from a racing game that has Nitro’s art style. And it gives it a kind of “Cruis’n Blast, but we ported it to the DS” vibe.
All this is to say that sensitive controls aside…I think Nitro on the DS looks fine.
Absolutely happy I discovered you! ❤ love the content been watching for awhile now! ❤
thank you so much! glad you enjoyed it!
5:27 frankly I don't have to play the game because my copy had a completed save with infinite cash.
So that's means I can play the final parts of the game without putting in the hours :D
1:46 So they predicted Sector Shootout from ProStreet
Even the corvette in “Most Wanted” is able to do a 180 degree turn in 100 mph, I don’t know why every car has the handling equivalent of an Evo or Impreza, but even those 2 don’t have handling as sensitive as a chronic twitter addict
Sorry for missing your Videos man. Love them you made man. I always love tour analysis anf deep dive man

lmao thank you!
Underground 2 was so hard with its sensitive controls and fast AI, the mini games were also almost impossible and I'm disappointed they took out drift events, also the tracks are pretty much the same as in the PSP version Underground Rivals, still it was decent for one of the first racing games on the DS with stuff like Ridge Racer and Asphalt Urban GT.
Most Wanted is definitely the worst game in the series, the story behind that port is quite amusing.
Carbon and Prostreet were definitely the best, solid graphics, great handling model and progression but they definitely get very hard at times with brutal rubber banding, you forgot to mention that they were both made by Exient Entertainment who made the PS2/Wii versions of Undercover and hot Pursuit. Also Carbon lets you use crew members like the other versions.
Last 2 games were both made by Firebrand Games who specialized in DS racing games, Undercover was alright, the open world was impressive but as you said it was kinda boring, also I really liked Nitro DS and I actually thought it was better than the Wii version, there are more tracks and events so it doesn't feel as repetitive and of course if you get gold on everything you unlock a track on the fucking Moon.
your knowledge on these games is impressive
@@BlooTeg Well I beat all of them, including Most Wanted (On emulator)
@@father042 underground 2 on ds was hard because it was made by the people who did the gba need for speeds
That really explains me about my thoughts about it to be in the bottom of my own ranking from worst to best.
I'm glad you did the DS before the PSP ports. Remember it goes all uphill from here.
Oh shit wait! BlueTag you missed one (although I'm not sure you can get it now). There was a special edition of NFS Nitro exclusively on the DSi store. Apparently it enhanced and upgraded the handling, model, and visuals and was a step up from OG Nitro.
people told me about it, sadly I didn't know about it beforehand to even give it a mention
@@BlooTeg I honestly forgot all about it up until now. I'm not sure if you're even able to play it let alone get it nowadays with the DS family line stores being shut down and all.

Holy shit… I always had a very vague memory of playing a racing game on the DS when I was a kid, and I finally found it again after all these years 🥲
U2 DS is a demake of Underground Rivals. I wonder why they didn't call it Underground Rivals as well

I got an ad for that new Need For Speed mobile game lol
They didn't bother putting time and effort to make the graphics at least as decent as NFS 2.
Lol I had this version of the game when I was a kid I remember thinking it was pretty short
Prostreet was the best NFS on DS hands down, i was hooked.
Funny thing is that there's an option to make the race harder by making a clone of your car in MW.
Back in 2009 I got Nfs Nitro as a birthday gift, played through the whole game in a few days and was disappointed
that's actually impressive
But you've got to drive on the moon! You don't get to drive on the moon in other need for speed games!
@@wendigockel bro it's so easy to get to the moon that Shinyodd forgot to get to it
You did some videos called "worst nfs port ever" but what port is really worst. I think one day you should make tier list ranking all nfs games and their ports. For example:
S tier: Most Wanted Xbox 360
A tier: Most Wanted Pc/Xbox/PS2/Gamecube
B tier: Most Wanted PSP
C tier: Nintendo DS
D tier: GBA/Java
At first I thought that there is no way they made NFS ProStreet for the DS, and then I remembered that ProStreet for mobile phones exists
You're my best find of 2023. Hope you get bigger! Much love.

Making a Game Like NFS or GTA for any Nintendo Consoles is a big fvking mistake
Great video! I used to love undercover on the ds as a kid haha
I mained the need for speed games on the DS as a kid, pro street was a blast and i never had an issue with the faster cars, carbon was pretty good as well but i never finished it.
Undercover I liked as a kid but nowadays I can’t go back to it, underground 2 I always found too difficult.
Most wanted… I was extremely disappointed and felt ripped off even though I pirated it, still 100% beat it tho. Nitro I played the least and don’t remember a lot about.

MW DS VERSION:
IT'S VERY REAL
Seeing your old persona randomly pop up above your car and on the buildings threw me for a loop.
LOL
Something that you said abt Pro Street DS cars being too wobby when you upgrade them further. Maybe because you've installed some visual kits (body kits, spoiler, etc) that negatively affects the car's overall performances (its noticeable on your Golf, 240sx & 350z). Some parts could positively affects one side of the stats while negatively affetcs the others so you need to choose those parts carefully. I'm honestly surprised for the fact that this ProSreet DS out of all NFS games actually had a visual parts that DO affcets the car performances in some ways, well the main ver of ProStreet visual parts do affects the car's perf but ProStreet DS is on a whole another level
that could be it, but now I think it might have been a bug
It was really, REALLY bad, like completely uncontrollable and some people mentioned that it didn't happen to them
BUT you never know, so you could be completely right! maybe an excuse for me to go back to it and test it haha
@@BlooTegIm late, but it could be the car was damaged since the game has mechanical damage feature
3:12 Actually you can rotate the camera by holding the L or R button and then using the d-pad
I've 100% undercover on the ds, and the rubberband thing during races is *nothing* compared to the last highway battle in the game.
You opponent reaches lightspeed as soon as the race starts, and you can never catch up. The only way I managed to win was by resetting the race untill my opponent spawned inside a semi truck, which gave me the lead and then I had to block and brake check him to stay in first place till the race ended. Its a really... Unique experience, you should have played more of it.
I played every ds nfs port and i actually like carbon prostreet and undercover
I loved Prostreet on the DS as a kid 😂
Most Wanted look like a college student's first work, not a game released ine stores!
exactly
I’ve never thought of this before but Most Wanted DS looks like what they threw on a TV screen in movies when they wanted the kids to be playing video games but didn’t want to license an actual game.
1:00 I love that nitrous sound effect, where can i get one? Also, really nice video!
literally got it from Underground 2 and used a echo effect for the cutoff haha
you should cover every nfs games on a psp version, I think it started from Underground Rivals to Shift PSP. I think you have covered Carbon OTC, since I have played it very long ago and I also had UMD Case with UMD in it, but sadly it got broken within few years.
idk for mobile ports of NFS games, I only played Undercover, Shift 1 and HP2010 mobile, haven't played Shift 2 iOS version which was made by Ironmonkey studio, and idk for MW2012 mobile version, also there's lost version of The Run iOS version which later rebuilt and became MW2012
I grew up with these cause I had no ps2, or a ps3, sad times.
OK, we had good and bad. But they have made for almost every system separate game! Nowadays, we are lucky if the same game comes out without glitches, server problems and so on.
I think the best one is Prostreet, great soundtrack car models are ok, good controls in my opinion
Love seeing you covering so much nfs content
I love seeing your comments
I still do not see the Nintendo DS in that shelf
it's inside the drawer hehe
The fact that the old Nokia java version of these games are competitive/better, speaks a lot about how garbage the DS is, and Nintendo consoles in general. They're so far behind, I can't comprehend why anyone bought them.
I only have Carbon Own the City which I liked to play and the blur didn't bother me. You convinced me to not go for the other games. It would be nice to see a review for Need for Speed The Run on the 3DS.
I made a video on the Wii version, which is basically the same as the 3DS one from what people told me!
Most wanted has bad graphics but i think the bmw is the most detailed
As always, you make an amazing rating. Keep it up!

Nfs most wanted ps2 and pc: the gigachad of villain act games
Most wanted DS: STOPPPPP
poor guy didn't have a chance
In NFS Pro Street DS I think the handling in the advanced stages of the game is matter of correct tunning your cars, try to actually equilibrate it's stats, I didn't have that problem when beating it recently (Only the late game AI that gets really difficult)... I think Pro Street is the best racing game in the Ds that isn't Mario Kart or Sonic All Stars Racing... 😅
Trackmania Turbo DS is impressive as well
The only need for speed game I ever played was the DS version of pro Street.... I wish I played the 360 version but the DS version holds lots of nostalgia with me. Particularly the 1967 Chevelle SS that was my main the car to use
did you remember how far you got into the game?
@@BlooTeg I think the farthest I got was beating 3 of the kings except for the drag one. I hate that event in general

now that i think about it the DS was never really a good console, i enjoyed the SP much more back then.

LMAO
I really don't know why but as a kid with no other options Most Wanted was kinda fun. I know my life is depressing...
hey, you had your fun with it, that's great!
I disagree on some of the points you made for ProStreet. Having recently played it on the DS I found it was a really good game from start to finish, the game doesn’t derail like you said & i think your handling issues are definitely down to whatever you used to play the emulation. For example, I just don’t see this game working well with a joystick, it was built for the d-pad & with the drift events, it’s actually better if you DON’T max out those cars & limit them to like a 5 for Speed & Acceleration. It’s kinda scary how good of a substitute the game is…the only problems are the fact that certain cars seem to be limited, as if the developers don’t want you to max them out hence your Golf issue & my personal issue with my Skyline randomly slowing down in Speed events, basically forcing me to buy my Corvette. The Speed Events are difficult to unlock & if you quit a race day after winning but don’t continue to dominate, you lose all progress for the races you did then. I lost about 4 speed races because i didn’t wanna do hydraulics as that mode is totally stupid & only funny when you see it, not when you play it 😭, i got lucky that the last 3 showdowns including Ryo had 4 Speed events so i was able to unlock Nitrocide :) As much as I love Carbon OTC on DS, ProStreet is the ONLY DS NFS I see myself replaying…i’m yet to try Undercover & Nitro just yet.
Extra: Underground 2’s AI are awfully aggressive & rubber bandy, steering has SO MUCH input lag & traffic is also out to get you. I ended my playthrough having done 50% of the Circuit races, 50% of Own The Zone & 100% of the Drag races because those are genuinely really good & felt like Underground. However the game itself should’ve just been called Underground DS or shared the Underground Rivals name tbh…as for Most Wanted on DS, I agree with everything you said except I feel it does have ONE redeeming quality & that is that it actually feels beatable…I 100% it & that’s more than what I can say for Underground 2 despite that being objectively the better game in every other category.
1. ProStreet
2. Carbon: Own The City
3. Underground 2
?. Undercover & Nitro (TBD)
6. Most Wanted
I respect that! good list!
My own version has a very low steering sensibility, it's unusable
I am not surprised that Own the City was the best one on the DS. On the PSP it was the only NFS I liked.
I'm afraid of the PSP ones now
@@BlooTeg it's starts off good with team fusion making some great games
