BMW should put a depreciation gauge on the dashboard right next to the tachometer. It would have to be something like a calendar / odometer combo gauge, with a dollar figure overlay, so you could see how much value your new BMW is losing with every passing mile, and every passing day. This gauge would run continually in the background, so that when you get into the vehicle after a prolonged absence, it would be able to tell you exactly how much less it is worth since the last time you drove it. I would also suggest that they include a Doomsday / Sunset feature with the depreciation gauge, (they could market it as a package!). This feature would activate when the car has achieved maximum worthlessness, which can best be described as the point where it would make more sense financially to have it crushed and made into a coffee table, than it would to replace the carbon ceramic brakes.
Hahaha. Can you imagine after 30k miles of warranty ends, the massive depreciation of this!? It has a water pump for the turbos that runs after the bespoke engine is off! That alone probably costs $3k! Those tires, that's $3k! Heaven forbid if the window jams like they all do... I love this but as you say...crush it after 30k! It's better to be recycled

Dealers have to heavily discount them to get rid of them. NA sales of X6 vehicles is about 15%. Also, you mentioned a Cayenne Turbo is the same price as the X5M?? I know SUV = soccer mom joke is an evergreen in automotive world, but you are wrong about who buys an X5M or an X6M. It's not a soccer mom, it's the business man who wants an aggressive looking car, with more space, comfort than a regular M sedan and unbelievable power. For $130k, what TWO cars would you get for your dream garage? You could get a Telluride and a C8 Z51. Or a G70 and an M2 competition. What would I not get? An X5M or an X6M.
I was in a Bmw dealership two days ago and you could get a F80 M3 and a “sport” (aka non base) trimmed X5 with the 3.0L I6 for around 115-120k. I like the new X5m but these kind of cars are really non sensical.
The scenario Paul describes is my situation. I only have room for 1 car and it has to do it all. I'd probably buy something like this if it were in my budget, though ideally they'd offer the steering and suspension from this in the X5 40i- that'd be a great all around daily driver. I dont need the aggressive body kit, etc. Agree this is the best looking x5 so far. The only manufacturer that manages to pull off the "coupe SUV" thing is Land Rover IMO with the velar and arguable the Range Rover sport. The way the MB, BMW (and now Porsche) just lop off the back of their regular SUVs is ugly imo.
Great review as always! Many people forget Benz pioneered the “fastback” styling cues on their CLS in 2006 ... it’s so funny that BMW subsequently did so three years later with the X6, same as Audi with the larger grill on the A4 I believe back in the early 2000’s ... amazing how they’ve set hardcore trends that puzzled everyone at first and are now the standard for most brands going forward - wild to witness. LOL
I don't know,, my M5 comp. weighing in at 4350 feels heavy, can't imagine another nine hundred pounds feeling worthy of being a track car. Yes, probably way better than the track hawk, but it needs a diet of at least 500 pounds. Look at the weight of the upcoming cayenne couple Gts.
15:15 You as an automotive journalist/analysis should get it by now..? Vehicles should not just get you from A to B. They're best served as everyday/casual utility tools for everyday living! Hence; why cars/sedans/coupe are considered a failed design... and SUV's and TRUCKS will consider to out sell them. Long live the X3M, X4M, X5M & X6M!
I know why people buy the Coupé shaped X6 SAV. We currently own an X5 but the wife is height challenged and mentioned the X5 is too big or wide for her, so the X6 puts her back in comfort zone like her previous Nissan Rogue.
the rest of the car World follows and takes people from BMW. kia and hyundai, for example, have hired engineers and designers from BMW (and from Audi), thats why their cars evolved

Todd: But car buyers are being stupid! Paul: Yes but car companies would be stupid not to make the stupid cars they want to buy! Todd I'm with you, the X6 makes no sense. And it can't be about style, because it's not as if the X6 looks like anything like an 8 series. My theory is it's about image, about projection, about coping for insecurities with money. You get the X6 specifically because you don't need an SUV. You don't need any practicality at all, but you feel insecure being the person with the little car. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there is no way anyone thinks it looks BETTER than a real coupe. Maybe the sliver more practicality over a coupe is worth it for X6 buyers
Not going to lie, the only downside of this vehicle it's the price, in my opinion it is overpriced. But unfortunately if you want it, you got to pay it. I'm seriously planning on buying this X5M competition and if God opens the door for me, I'll probably pull the trigger next year. But the price is insane...I know, that's my only hesitation. If not for sure I'll pull the trigger on a 2018 X5M with the least miles possible. But I know I want this new gen X5M though...
Great review. I think you ran some people off the road there, and holy shit you are ripping it. What a machine. 2 questions: 1. How in the world will you keep that vehicle running with all of those BMW Mspec parts? It will be incredibly unreliable for day to day. 2. This will be leased, do we think the risiduals on this will be good or bad? It's so expensive it will have to drop $40k in 2 years. The x6 is stupid.
Yes, a coupe shaped SUV is less practical...blah blah blah. Sports cars are even LESS practical. You cannot even imagine the number of people out there who don't care for a sports car. They just want to LOOK sporty but still live in within the shackles of having a family.
I don’t think anyone tracks these unless they forgot there M4 at home or something but it’s for people with money who want to have the fastest truck on the on ramp to cut u off on the way to work lol 😂. And the rest are just people who got tons of money and a dealer up sells them bc I have seen 4-5 of these with 70 year olds driving them in the slow lane
This was well said and discussed... I’m not sure there is much need for this SUV... averaging 13 mpg it will barely ever be used at even 60% of its limits... but some Dads still need to feel like a kid again I guess...
No one wants a car and this vehicle is why. Even the base ...”base model” X5 40i gets 4.9 seconds 0-60mph. Why would you want to limit your self in a small uncomfortable car when there is this much performance and luxury in a BMW X5????
I secretly love the first Gen X6, it still catches my eye whenever I see one.

I was in a Bmw dealership two days ago and you could get a F80 M3 and a “sport” (aka non base) trimmed X5 with the 3.0L I6 for around 115-120k. I like the new X5m but these kind of cars are really non sensical.
Something else that is big, heavy, over-engineered, and shockingly quick on a winding mountain road? A BMW GS.
Pretty sure this is the 4th generation X5 0:23
yass123 you are correct
4th gen x5 / 3rd gen x5m. There was no E53 x5m, the closest would be the 4.6is & 4.8is.
What road in AZ are you on?
God, if I ever want an SUV again .....
The Competition package is the competition for your money lol
Great review as always! Many people forget Benz pioneered the “fastback” styling cues on their CLS in 2006 ... it’s so funny that BMW subsequently did so three years later with the X6, same as Audi with the larger grill on the A4 I believe back in the early 2000’s ... amazing how they’ve set hardcore trends that puzzled everyone at first and are now the standard for most brands going forward - wild to witness. LOL
donteadoss Infiniti did it first back in 03 with the FX35/45
I don't know,, my M5 comp. weighing in at 4350 feels heavy, can't imagine another nine hundred pounds feeling worthy of being a track car. Yes, probably way better than the track hawk, but it needs a diet of at least 500 pounds. Look at the weight of the upcoming cayenne couple Gts.
Forget a G meter. Find yourself a inclinometer and measure the passenger's hair angle...
Would have no reservations driving this, ummm, deliberately, to pick up coffee.
But how are the BMW cupholders?
The best or nothing

Bmw 💚 ❤ 💙
life is a passing zone - disregard the turn signals
BWM= trendsetter. Mercedes Benz and the rest of the car world follow BWM!! 😂😊😉
the rest of the car World follows and takes people from BMW. kia and hyundai, for example, have hired engineers and designers from BMW (and from Audi), thats why their cars evolved
and the question is where can you use that power ?lol
Passing people all the time. Trust me its addictive
@@PradigyMusicman
true ,have porsche cayenne turbo but here in USA speed limits are stupid low
and honestly those cars getting fun at higher speeds
@@tomrast9629 i live in NC and I remember the first time I floored my x5m and passed like 6 cars just to make a red light. It was dumb, risky and illegal but I couldn't believe this SUV could do that. I pushed it for a while until one day my backend broke lose on a curve that made me chill bc I was getting out of control with great power comes great responsibility right?lol but yea i was going to take it to Atlanta for Global Time attack but couldnt make it
My problem with the power cars.. you buy one and you get tickets
@@NONARCS
its true
0:24 This is 4th gen. not 3rd gen.
3rd gen x5m. They didn’t make an “m” for the first gen
The X5 is great, but in the winter it is not. The smaller winter wheels look gooffy on this and the xdrive is not quadra drive or quattro.
No wonder why people are pulling over when something like that 18:02 arrives at high speed ! It looks so mean that most people would probably think there's a drug lord with 4 body gards in it..!
"x6 iS a LeSs uSabLe x5"
ya and a coupe is a less usable sedan..
which is a less usable station wagon...
15:08 lmao simple answer: x6 looks better than x5 - if u dont need the rear headroom and storage space, u want the better looking one
Isn’t it the fourth generation?
But the Caynne turbo only has 540 H p
Isn't it the 4th generation X5?!!
All I heard was
"$130,000"
"The heavy weight of BMW's history"
"Thoughtful hammer"
And "$130,000"
Scary to pay over 100k for it... It will prob we worth half that in 3 years
@@aaronsmith2929 No way I’m throwing down 130k for a suv. Earlier they drive a Jeep Trailhawk with boners the whole time saying 90k for a suv was insane. Never ends. There will be repossessed vehicles available in a year or two.

Is it just me or are BMW's gauge clusters shaped oddly like the exterior of the kidney grill
This is a you just got caught cheating on your wife gift.
@@simonburkeisable I don't guess you saw Entourage where Ari Gold got busted by his wife for putting a V12 badges on a V8
Who wants some dodge cat when I can get some hot V right here!!!!
These things will trade for §5K in about 6-8 years
Great review.
$130k damn....
역시 BMW
New Gen x5m does nothing different from the last one.
Exactly. I have an F85 X5M with a JB4 tune and besides the interior. I don’t see anything to make me jump ship for the new one
An M BMW is not a baby buggy! The most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard!
Umm this is the fourth generation not 3rd generation
"Competition" in what exactly? Does LeMans have a rocket-barge class now?
Did you not watch the video?
This was well said and discussed... I’m not sure there is much need for this SUV... averaging 13 mpg it will barely ever be used at even 60% of its limits... but some Dads still need to feel like a kid again I guess...
go for the full hybrid version x 5
No one wants a car and this vehicle is why. Even the base ...”base model” X5 40i gets 4.9 seconds 0-60mph. Why would you want to limit your self in a small uncomfortable car when there is this much performance and luxury in a BMW X5????
