    Your advice on PCOS workouts is so on point! I remember in the beginning of my PCOS journey, I was going through a very stressful period and kept gaining weight - to try and overcome this, I was working out really hard a the gym - 5x per week before work - with NO RESULTS! Not only did I not reduce weight, but the endorphins everyone associates with exercise were non-existent, and my mood was all over the place! I felt so helpless and frustrated, and kept thinking that my body was betraying me. After coming across your page, things started making sense - it turns out, I was exhausting myself trying conventional methods, when my body needs special techniques! Thankfully, I already loved doing weighted workouts - but I learned how to slow down, and limit them to a few times a week. Less is MORE with PCOS workouts, and now my workouts have become a treat, not a threat! Thank you Tallene and Sirak for all your workout advice!

      I'm grateful for reading your comment. And I can relate to the struggle with physical exercises. Last year I read somewhere that I should work out 60 minutes every day, and so I did. By the 3rd day, I got this terrible flu because strenuous exercise can suppress immune function, as I learned later. That misinformation backfired so badly! I spent two weeks sick, unable to exercise and cook proper meals, and my acne and hirsutism got worse. Now I'm starting to understand what works for my body, and I just found this channel while searching for workouts tailored for PCOS. Hopefully, it can help me to gain more clarity regarding what exercises will work for me. I'm so glad you're doing great in your journey with PCOS!

    This makes so much sense now. I was walking up to 8 miles a day and on a 1,200 calorie diet with no off days for 4 MONTHS and only lost 4 lbs. Then… I found keto and lost 60 lbs without exercise in the first 4 months and when I started walking a lot it slowed down but I lost 40 more by the end of the year. Now, after a car accident, I started back and it’s SO HARD.
    I started going to the gym almost every morning and only eating 900-1,200 calories (still keto because I really feel at my best when I’m in ketosis) but I GAINED 5 lbs in a week! So I really think I’m just exercising too much and eating too little. But I REALLY ENJOY going to the gym. I can’t wait to learn what workouts are best for me and I really hope it works!

    What's especially frustrating is eating right, exercising to the max and staying consistent, dropping a few pounds but then hitting a plateau where no matter how hard you work the weight is not coming off and you just feel miserable and week all the time, that's me at this current time, I want to get back into shape and drop about 50lbs but not seeing results and feeling awful really kills my motivation, I need some motivation as well as tips to get started again :)

    I’m type 1 diabetic, and because of this I already am constantly monitoring my blood sugars. For a couple of years now I had been noticing that 1) I gain like 10 lbs every year even though I don’t eat badly. I already have autoimmune diabetes so most of my diet is already sugar free and low carb. And I rarely eat out. 2) I keep having to increase my insulin. I kept telling my doctor that something was wrong, but because my A1C was 5.8 (pretty dang good for a 20 year Diabetic), they thought I was being “hard on myself”. But alas, the reason my A1C was still good, was because *I KEPT HAVING TO PUMP MORE AND MOOORE INSULIN INTO MY BODY!* this past year I noticed my hair is coming out in chunks, I’m bloating with water, my premenstrual symptoms keep getting worse and worse and my insulin needs keep increasing. I finally told all this to my gyno, and also expressed my frustration with my diabetes doctor. She tested my hormones and said they look normal, but scheduled me for an ultra sound. And sure enough, she saw some PCOS like inflammation on my ovaries. She suggested birth control, but I’m going to do things the natural way first. I don’t find birth control to be a solution, but a bandage. The moment I stop taking it (like when I’m ready to have a kid), I’ll be back to square 1. So instead of pumping insulin when my sugars are stubbornly high after a meal, I try and go for a walk. And that tends to work. I’ve also started trying beginners weight training with like 3lb weights lol, and also beginners Pilates. And I notice that for the next 2 days after just a 20 or 30 minutes of (not even a drop off sweat and i’m a sweaty person) these exercises, I’m almost struggling to keep my blood sugar from going too low and end up having to snack to not have a low emergency. But yea I’ve just started. I thank God though, because I feel like because of my diabetes, I was able to catch it quite quickly. I don’t think my case is bad, it’s just on the cusp. And because I’m already always wearing a CGM. And because my body doesn’t make it’s own insulin, I noticed when things were going weird, and I noticed also that I’m taking more and more insulin because I have to manually pump it into my body myself. I heard it was possibly for type 1 diabetics to get “double diabetes”, which is not only does your body not make insulin, but you are also insulin resistant, so the insulin you inject isn’t working just like in type 2 diabetics, the insulin their body makes just isn’t working. So Yay 😅 . But one thing I’ve always said is that if I had the opportunity to avoid full blown diabetes like type 2 diabetics often have, I would have taken the opportunity to. Because I have autoimmune diabetes (the same thing Nick Jonas has), I didn’t have a choice. But with this “double diabetes”/PCOS thing, I do have the potential to rectify it. And with the support of God that’s what I’m working toward 🥂

    I agree with you on here about exhausting exercises. I used to be a cleaner at a nursing home & sometimes I had the whole center to clean myself & I would clean for 8 hrs. 5 x a week & you would think I would lose weight being that active everyday but I actually gained weight which was frustrating. What helped me lose weight was doing restorative yoga & I did it on my bed so my back didn’t hurt not laying on the hard floor. I did this yoga right when I got up for the day & before eating breakfast & in 1 week I lost 1” off my waist & lost 5 lbs. I didn’t change my diet at all. Yoga lowers cortisol especially when you do the slow breathing exercises in the restorative yoga. I like doing Jen Hilman restorative yoga. This all makes sense now what you’re saying on this video. I always wondered why when I exercised fast I would gain 5 lbs. of fluid & got upset gaining more weight. Now I just have to relax & heal myself up like you say in this video. Thanks! 😊

All I want is to close my rings on my Apple Watch every day Lol I thought being more active, burning calories, getting sweaty and pumping hard energy into my body was the way to go, and it hasn’t worked. But, you’re telling me with PCOS I should forget about all those movements, steps and cardio and just weight lift? Correct? This is intriguing and I’m mind blown.

    So I’ve been in a Body Recomposition journey (build muscle, get strong, replace fat) and this video makes me feel 10 times better 🙂 I was really worried that more muscle would elevate my testosterone (which I read can happen if you fast after a workout but won’t if you eat some carbs and protein) and thus why I have been spotting here and there (always occurs when I’m active after being sedentary for a loooooong time). Some things I have noticed since I have been trying to build muscle: my pants fit better, I get this airy feeling randomly like when you’ve been playing tag for hours as a child, my skin isn’t dry anymore! whiteheads (because my skin isn’t dry anymore), spotting here and there, I can see muscle definition when I flex, the number on the scale is more stable (no increase or much decrease). I am not focusing on the scale because that’s the least important part of Body Recomp. There’s people with fabulous results who weigh as much as they did starting but they look waaaaay better.

    I'm going through this right now!1 I was very upset when I stepped on the scale to see I've gained more weight!! I've been eating healthy and working out at the gym like crazy and still gained weight. It's so upsetting and hard to explain to other people!

    I recently joined a gym and have been doing high intensity workouts several times a week and feel like I'm just packing on the pounds and not only because of muscle gain.This happened last time I joined the gym. I remember when I started doing pilates a while back the weight just started dropping off but unfortunately the pilates classes are too expensive :( I also feel I feel extremely restless and irritable after doing high impact workouts rather than happy

    I was diagnosed a month ago but was told to go on the pill and lose weight. By taking your quiz I realised I have inflammatory PCOS.
    I am now one month gluten and dairy free and my symptoms have already got better.
    I have also reduced my CrossFit workouts from 6 to 4 and feel so much better. I walk a lot (we are in lockdown is Australia) but I still do dumbbell workouts. I’m excited I found your podcast and now I look forward to watching your TH-cam Chanel.

    I love your podcasts and your videos! They have been so helpful to me. I have a question, why is it like influencers like Sarah’s Day are able to do high intensity training and stay incredibly lean? She has PCOS.

    • @NH-1983
      @NH-1983 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are people that have lean PCOS. Plus she’s also trying to sell her brand so making it look “fun” helps.

    • @sophias8848
      @sophias8848 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t believe she truly has PCOS. She has said herself that they diagnosed her with a saliva test, which has been proven to be ineffective for diagnosing PCOS. She doesn’t have polycystic ovaries either. Sarah loves to self-diagnose herself with all kinds of intolerances and I believe she did the same thing with PCOS, as well as the time she claimed to cure the cancerous cells on her cervix with clean eating. She makes these claims almost consistently without any scientific evidence or qualifications to back up her opinions. Take what she says with a pinch of salt!

    • @veronicajohnson5154
      @veronicajohnson5154 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you watch her older videos, she has textbook PCOS and was diagnosed by a practitioner. They even put her on hormonal birth control and that significantly improved her symptoms. She also adopted a gluten-free dairy free lifestyle and It was shown to be really successful for her! I don’t think she was self diagnosing, but that’s just my opinion.

    • @sophias8848
      @sophias8848 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@veronicajohnson5154 I myself have PCOS and used to binge watch her older content so I am really familiar with all of that. However, her “practitioner” was a naturopath not an actual doctor (because she doesn’t believe in Western medicine). Sarah’s missing periods were very likely down to over-exercising and under-eating rather than PCOS - she herself has stated that she was training too hard and not nourishing herself enough. As soon as she started eating more carbs her period came back and she has had 0 fertility issues since (now on her second pregnancy!)

    • @veronicajohnson5154
      @veronicajohnson5154 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sophias8848 I also have PCOS and the only doctor that would listen to me was a naturopath. Both of my primary care doctors told me my symptoms were nothing. Bottom line- I don’t really think is our place to determine whether someone is lying about a diagnosis or not. That’s kinda a bold claim to make and for what?? Why are you determined for her to be a liar? You don’t know her personally you only see glimpses of her life through TH-cam. Also it’s not impossible to get pregnant with PCOS- especially given her GF DF lifestyle for the last decade and supplementation.

      Hey Cyster! 💕 One thing you can do to take off pressure from the knees is using a chair with squats to take the pressure off the knees. So you can sit up from the chair in a squat position and this will help to strengthen the legs and take off pressure from the lower body at the same time. Here is also an article that provides some great exercises for bad knees www.webmd.com/pain-management/knee-pain/injury-knee-pain-16/slideshow-knee-exercises

    You can't outrun a bad diet. PCOS is underpinned by insulin resistance. The key is to eat less foods that over-stimulate insulin.
    Get most of the energy you need from natural fat (3:2 monounsaturated to saturated, the same as our body's fat).
    God bless you.

    • @nishthakaushik4766

      What all foods should I eliminate? Other than refined flour and sugar and junk food.

    • @Starbreaker2012
      @Starbreaker2012 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It isn't necessary to eliminate foods per se@@nishthakaushik4766. It involves making educated choices.
      Don't eat starches alone for instance. Having a jacket potato without butter or cheese is terrible advice, as is cutting the fat from meat, or choosing lower-fat versions of dairy, as they all increase the demand for insulin.
      Keep to RI of protein per day, and only half the RDA of carbohydrate is generally adequate.
      Don't be suckered by health claims of Weetabix, Shredded Wheat, Bran Flakes nor wholemeal bread; they are all turned to glucose faster than table sugar in the body. Again, if you have them, have them in very small amounts as part of a balanced meal, with veg, a small amount of protein, and enough natural fat.
      Pulses are mostly slower release, but even so, processing food like baked beans makes them demand very high amounts of insulin too.
      As important is the frequency of eating; don't eat 'little and often' because every time we eat we raise insulin levels. Keep to two or three meals per day, without snacking in between.
      God bless you.
