  • Sometimes just watching the machine quilting process can be the most helpful way to learn how to quilt a design! In this "Just Quilting" video, watch and see how I transition between quilting designs, use echoing to fill in the gaps and that when it comes to quilting, "Close enough is good enough!"

In this day and age of "mid arm" and affordable quilting machines... your encouragement is just what we all need! Especially the "close enough is good enough"... put it all together and it's wonderful.... GB

I just watched it twice. For me, you’re like watching a prayer. I study what you do and tell myself I will be able to keep my lines this even if I keep practicing. I will be able to think fast enough to keep from swirling myself into a corner, and I will be my best self. You are a real inspiration.

Angela,, You are fun to watch and full of spunk and personality. I left my long arm at home and am just doing quilt tops for my trip. I did finish 9 so will get busy again when I get home....So this was great therapy to see you in action. Quite relaxing. I keep track of miles of thread used up. I did 6 miles in a month. Does anybody else look at this way. I was amazed how quickly I improved. Time on task matters. Relaxing matters and just having fun. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm and talents.

Loved watching the quilting. I am never able to quilt that long without stopping because I am using my sewing machine and not a long arm. It was amazing to see how you transitioned from one shape to another.

I loved watching this video. I'm most impressed by your quick mind, eye hand coordination, and your ability to just flow into another design without stopping to think "oh, what should I do here?" The "oh, what should I do here" is me!

You are my QUEEN of free motion quilting.
Other people only show on single design on a small square area of the quilt that can't help at all when I hit the end, I don't know where to turn.
Here, you show how and where to turn into another motif. Free motion, remember? And I won't be bored or turn into a machine. I love it. Please, do more clips like this. I would like to know how to add another motif into a same quilt.
    Thanks my QUEEN.

I loved watching your quilting. It’s like a master class watching your transitions and how you fill various areas. I didn’t need to hear a narration, the shapes spoke for themselves.
It didn’t bother me to watch you on your long arm either, even though I am a small machine quilter. The shapes and the free motion part are the same no matter which type of machine you use.

Wow that's wonderful. I've begun to experiment with some of these methods in my quilting also and getting much more fluid with it. People are beginning to notice it also, commenting on how much better my quilting is getting. No more plain old "stitch in the ditch" for me, hiding my quilting in the seams. Now I feel more confident and am showing my quilting off in the blocks, enhancing the blocks themselves with free-flowing, and often random, quilting.

it sure is. I recently had 8 strips to quilt that bordered a central hockey logo - these were accents featuring the colours of the logo itself. As this as a quilt for a man and the applique logo was meant to be the feature I needed to quilt these 4" strips in a functional but not distracting or flowery way. I opted to go straight down the centre of each ( this would finish as lengthwise across the quilt ) in a "heartbeat" design. Kinda like that beep-beep line / spike /line you see on a heart monitor machine at the hospital. Weird I know but as the logo was native indian it really seemed to work. In two of the strips I quilted a slightly different version with a straight line for about and inch then a small, wider triangle point up, another 1 inch line then a triangle down. The over all effect of the alternating lines was really effective . I'd love to send you a picture

I agree with the previous poster, no music is needed lol. The sound of just the machine would relax me

Love all your videos Angela. Definitely enjoy seeing the whole flow of how you travel across the quilt and transition between designs 😊

I was asked to finish a quilt top by my best friend from high school - it was made by her husbands grandmother. The seams were sooooooo off. I couldn't decide how to quilt it - cause Im new at doing my own quilting - but when I watched this video I knew this would distract from the seams - I quilted it on my home machine with red thread and it turned out beautiful!!!

You are amazing, Angela. Doesn’t make any difference what machine you use, you always make it look so easy. Love your videos.

Yesssss! Love love love! My eye is following every move and my brain is racing with ideas as I go to sleep. It’s so so so helpful to see how these motifs flow, I can’t wait to sit down and play at my machine. Thank you ❤️

Also, thank you for using the longarm. You have quilted all the quilts on the Midnight Quilt shows on the home machine so this was a long awaited video for us longarm quilters! My favorites are still your longarm tutorials I’ve paid for on Craftsy!!! 💕
