I wanted to practice feathers before I started on the panel and I did. But they turned out poorly. I finally decided to just give the panel a go and Angela was right. It is much easier to practice feathers within a confined space. I must say I am very proud of my first try at quilting feathers. They turned out really well. Thanks for the great advice Angela. Also, I wanted to outline the inside part of the colorful panel they way Angela did but I had a hard time trying to figure out how to do that so I decided to just forget that and learn how to do the swirl feather. I really want to try to thread paint. I think the highlights around the different blocks looks very nice and I love color so that's perfect. I am really loving this quilt-along. It's the best one yet. (I really liked the plume feather so I watched one of Angela's previous videos and learned how to make those. I used it in two of my blocks. This is great!!!!
Angela, I’ve been a fan for years, but this is my first challenge. I am having SO MUCH FUN! The panel is gorgeous, and I backed it with a rainbow watercolor fabric I picked up a while ago. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
This is my second challenge and I am feeling so much more confident. It's been a lot of fun and while there still is a lot of room for improvement I can see myself learning and improving. Thanks Angela!
When can you tell it's time to change your machines needle? Also, what are some tips on managing the bulk of the panel through the machine? Love this challenge.
Having fun practicing the feather meander. Might need a little "hand holding" on the dot to dot. Hope you'll talk more about this in the Thursday Chat.
Checking in on this late as I was working when the video was on. Looking so forward to trying this and thanks so much for all of the great information!
Question: for the very center of the quilt where color points come together, which color would you choose for that area? So far I have the individual colors in each diamond, but when it comes to the middle, if I use an overall flower motif, as an example, which would be the best blend?

I will be unable to start till after the holidays, but on my HQ Sweet Sixteen I think I will run two treads at once. Just a thought at this point.
I like the gloves you use, where can I get a ser of them?
They are the best! Here's a link to them: quiltingismytherapy.com/product/machine-quilting-gloves/ Thanks for watching!

My feather meander is a hot mess. I think I’ll work on a different filler. 🙈
