    @17:00 and @19:00 The relative distance 0.05 and 0.95 are ratios and not distances in cm. So for a beam of length say 5m, RD=0.05 will be 25cm (from end i) and RD=0.95 will be 475cm (from end i or -25cm from end j). Hence, actual distance of hinge from each end will vary according to the length of the beam in the model.

    May I know how to generate the hinge state after i run the analysis? I had define and assign my hinge properties to beam and column , and i run for non-linear time history analysis with scale factor ground motion.

    while modelling a high rise building , say G+20 in any zone in response spectrum method , failure chances are high after design ...so it is almost definite that if i go for pushover easily every hinges turn red , does that mean that building of that sort is not advisable if hinges turn red?....is it possible for all the building members to pass the design even if the hinges turn red in push over analysis ?

    hi sir, i have a doubt in pushover analysis of rc building. i am doing a project on pushover analysis of G+9 rc building without shear wall and braces, with shear wall and with braces.
    my doubt is howmany total number of plastic hinges do we get for a model without shear wall and braces, for a model with shearwall and for a model with steel braces. each floor has 32 columns and 54 beams. how do we define a plastic hinge? please help me out .I ll be looking forward for your answer. thank you in advance

      yes you need to use capacity spectrum with acceleration due to earthquake time history load pattern you can select when mentioning the load case PUSH-X and Y.

    Good demonstration. However, it would have been nice to see the formation of mechanism in the structure. How could we ensure that the time steps will show formation of mechanism in the hinges. To achieve this do we have to increase the value of "Load to a Monitored Displacement Magnitude" in Load Application Control dialog box?

      Yes you can get that point by adding a non-linear dead+live load at the start of pushover. 👍🏻

    Which IS code did you use to carry out Pushover analysis? Indian seismic codes does not have any specifications for this analysis. Inform me if I am wrong.

      You should do pushover to know the effect to structure when a known force or displacement is applied. Time history is completely different method. And Response spectrum is codal method with prescribed curve of response.

      govind up u can apply hinges only to members not to areas. So you can apply for columns only.

    Dear Qamar Moonby,
    I am dealing with pushover analysis of shear wall frame structure. I am trying to define plastic hinges to shear wall. As far as I am concerned, modeling shear wall hinges is not applicable in Etabs but there is some modifications have been done by researchers such as mid-pier elements. I was wondering if you could help me model shear wall plastic hinges by etabs or show me some tutorials or articles related to performing pushover analysis of concrete shear wall frame by etabs.

      For seismic zone you need to consider g value in pushover load.

      Since braces or/and struts act as columns, so as we apply hinges in columns we can apply column hinges in braces.

    Sir, i followed all the steps of performing push over analysis in my model but after i started analysis the message reads as "error creating hinges in frame model". Can you please give your reviews on that. That would be really helpful.

      Fehmi Yousuf I also have seen that error in one of my student's model. Then we have created a new model from beginning to do only pushover. Then it was fine.

      You need to add variable non-linear dead+live load also.

    Hello,
    This video help me to make pushover analysis in SAP 2000. Thanks.
    But i have a problem, because my pushover analysis finished before construction collapse. I have control displacement set on 0,5 m, but analysis finished at 0,17 and i do not know what to do. I want my construction reach displacement 0,5. Maybe can someone help me? Thanks.

      Moment rotation hinge is basically for plastic hinge.. for fiber hinge u go by finite element analysis method.

      yes You need to apply Shear wall hinges. Like coupling beam hinges in coupling shear walls.
