    That fear thing is true. Like when you're working and someone comes in and they're more qualified or smarter. People fear that so they try to discredit and bring that person down, instead of befriend and learn from that person. One of many examples.

    I'd like to thank you Paul, for introducing me to Jung and Jungian Psychology. I am currently reading The Red Book (Liber Novus), and your insight on his works has been very beneficial to me. Again, thank you very much, for all you do for not only the ASMR community, but for me as well. Ben.

    I like your exploration of Jung's thoughts. His ideas are pretty much taboo in today's psychology, which, by being an unease, betrays something important. I think we're missing a huge part by ignoring his legacy.

    I've taken 4 psychology class at a college level and my professors didn't advocate one perspective as being the most accurate, but Carl Jung was a Analytical psychologist. There any many "current" psychological perspectives, but the most commons ones tend to be Positive Psychology, Social Psychology and Cognitive Psychology.
    I feel like most people, when they talk about psychological perspectives, talk as if a theory is a law simply because they personally identify. But essentially no perspective is law because it's only a theory, and theories aren't quite unfalsifiable.
    ER you're essentially talking about Analytical Psychology and it's simple a high emphasis of the Psyche.

    The individual is insignificant. Only as a collective can we truly make a difference.

    • @lucasalvarez7805
      @lucasalvarez7805 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carl Jung was for the INDIVIDUAL first. Not collectivsm. First off You don't understand the collective unconscious. Second. You have it all backwards. The collective in the sense that you are speaking is composed of individuals. So basically they are more important than the collective. Its like a house. The INDIVIDUAL is the foundation that comes FIRST before the roof. Period. Groups can't suffer. Only individuals. YOU WILL NOT LIVE TO SEE THE DAY WHEN THINGS GET BETTER. Your desire to see the system become a utopia now, is naive and EVIL. Individuation beings with YOU! Even at the species level.
      All the gods, all the heavens, all the hells are within YOU!- Joseph Campbell.
      Individuals are the foundation for Unity, like the group is the completion of the roof to create a home.

    People often scrutinise others for what what they see in them selves. For example, I often dislike people with inflated views of themselves, and I often find it hard to realise that that I dislike them because I see it as a reflection of my own inflated ego.

    Hey Rift, I'm curious, have you looked into personality archetypes like myers-briggs? I'm curious as to what your 'personality type' is. :o
    For example I am an "ISTJ" which stands for 'Introvert Sensing Thinking Judging'

    • @EphemeralRift
      @EphemeralRift  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrAsianadam Yes and whenever I've taken one of those it said I was an INFP or INFJ. One of these days I want to do a video about that. Do you think yours is accurate?

    • @MrAsianadam
      @MrAsianadam 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ephemeral Rift I do! And that's odd to hear, actually! One of my best friends keeps getting INFP or INFJ, and its always one or the other, haha. But for me its always been consistently ISTJ. I do believe my result is accurate!

  • @Wourghk
    @Wourghk 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A balance between happy and sad? That sounds like a compromise.
    I know the kind of "happy people" you describe tend to be superficial, but being truly happy isn't anything to avoid because of that. Happiness is a rare thing, and if some finds you, you should never turn it down for the sake of a quota or fear of some stereotype.

    Not being an empath could be easily construed as a good thing because they are forced to have a natural grasp of cause and effect with the world, society, psychology because if they don't, they do not have empathy to fall back on to make sure they do not grate along adversity or differences. One must then be very analytic/perceptive/pragmatic. Well, assuming they don't enjoy loss, trouble, etc. I mean it's as you said, our actions cause a chain reaction, it's almost karmic in how reckless or disregarding behavior is just not helpful to yourself even if you think you are being self-serving by acting that way. There are reasons we just do not go inflict violence and such things whenever we may want to and it's not necessarily empathy or even good intentions. Living "good" also has the benefit of just making the most sense.

    I know Ego is a big thing... person's sense of self-esteem or self-importance...when the Maslow's hierachy of need is broken then ego comes..www.psychologytoday.com/blog/hide-and-seek/201205/our-hierarchy-needs .. Vulnerability and transparency very crucial in the growth on one self..you right..fear is the driving factor..but people get hurt during the process and some with broken relationships....

    The number of times I heard "I am" in this video about egocentrism is hilarious. "I love to dig and analyze and understand, I love to 'philosphize', I've struggled with depression, I'm a jack of all trades, everything is meaningless." Constructive criticism: Stop promoting your self-image as a deep-thinker to everyone, it makes it unbelievable and a somewhat bad match for a discussion on ego. Talk about what interests you, and people will come to naturally view you as an image of what you enjoy. Anyone can say they enjoy philosophy, deep thinking, etc. all for the image of alternative it creates. This is what a hipster is. Don't be a hipster.

    • @ArtoriasStormcock
      @ArtoriasStormcock 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll get through this. Experiencing "egodeath" often makes you feel anxious and especially vulnerable. You're not alone in feeling like this. It feels liberating but overwhelming at the same time. So overwhelmimg that your brain just doesn't know what to do with it.
      Like a dog who's free from the leach after pulling in frustration. He runs to freedom, though he does not know what to do with it. It's so much. It's terrifying.
