      Carl Jung's writings were helpful/impactful. He was one of the trees in a forest of certain people who's apples I've eaten. We will never stop making mistakes, but we can try to learn from the ones we made, and try to limit the mistakes we make in the future. We'll never be perfect though.

      @@EphemeralRift true, in fact I do not act like somebody who never "sinned", everyone does. I always was supporting you and I'll always do because you are one of the few real people in ASMR. You put effort on how to explain your thoughts and don't only follow trends but bring to us "pieces of you". That's I think what we really like about you

    Came here because I was curious about Jung, but ended up learning a lot more from you. Thanks bro.
    ASMR is something I've felt sometimes but couldn't describe.
    What you say about the world catering non sensitives is very true. It seems to me a lot of people live their lives like desensified mules.

    Your mind from a Freudian concept is constructed of the id, superego, and ego. The id is our our impulses, the superego is our sense of morality. The id and superego are at constant battle. The result is ego, our personality and what others and the self projects. Great video man! Great way to spread knowledge

    Speaking of free knowledge. The Australian government is looking to deregulate university fees so we're more like the US, where university education costs your internal organs and firstborn child. Our current system here is pretty good. Our tertiary education is government subsidised, and we have to pay back the tuition fees via tax once we're earning a certain income level. The amount we pay back is typically more than we're subsidised for as it's tied to inflation, but we don't really have to fret over interest rates.
    I don't think the changes will ever get through the upper house because it'll be seen as a violation of the rights of the Australian people, but still, this is the right-wing government we're dealing with at the moment.
    Ludicrous.

    Great video, ER. Although I am interested in psychology and the many topics related to it, I never actually heard about Carl Jung. I was surprised to know he was involved or was a major part of so many of the topics that I've come to know about regarding personality and what "type of a person" a person is, so I definitely agree that he was to psychology as Einstein was to science.
    Understanding personality and emotions and seeking self-betterment is something I am personally interested in as well, so I feel like I can connect to you in a few ways (introvertism, self-improvement, logical thinking, etc). I think reflection and a drive to learn about what interests you is very important, as well as understanding yourself and trying to manage emotions, quirks, or the like.
    Anyway, thanks for this video, and I look forward to your future videos on related topics.

    I love this kind of thing--just being human and talking about thoughts, not having to have a PhD level knowledge on a topic but just enjoying the life of the mind. Some of these thoughts probably don't fit into my worldview, but some of them probably can, if I frame them a little differently. I especially love the idea of growing in both positive introverted tendencies and positive extroverted tendencies. I had fun looking up the links on Carl Jung, and I think I think a lot like he did--the way he saw things about his own mind and took note of them. The drawings in the red book are really interesting and beautiful, too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Paul. Always a pleasure! And the chalkboard sounds along with the speaking feel wonderful.

    • @ben-mx3cs
      @ben-mx3cs 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      DomoxLove007 Well, no, that's actually fact. It is riddled with confirmation bias, subjective validation, and various conjectures that make it incredibly unscientific. It teaches stereotyping of people and putting people into boxes to better understand the human condition, which is backwards thinking. This is no different from the forer effect with astrology where people will read a description that sounds nice to them, then make themselves the indicator as to whether the description is right or not. If you are the one deciding whether something is right or not, and the natural world is no basis for it, then you are gaining absolutely nothing from reading the description in the first place. It doesn't matter if you're talking about the MBTI 8 function model, beebe's model, Carl Jung's model, or the Temperament model, the same fundamental principles apply. Carl Jung had no scientific foundation for proof when he wrote Psychological Types. He basically just conjectured his hundreds of patients and created a model out of it as if he was validating something. MBTI then came around and conjectured off of his conjectures of people and made a model around a model that was already heavily flawed. The human condition is simply too complex to describe into words like this and call it a day. Furthermore, stereotyping people and putting people into boxes as if they are destined to do certain things is absolutely ridiculous. Humans have an almost infinite potentiality, and categorizing the innate nature of them would require a great amount of scientific nuance. Neither Carl Jung nor MBTI has scratched the surface of this.

      +DomoxLove007 Thanks for watching and for your interest. I look forward to delving into that more myself. :)

    • @rialoosebolt
      @rialoosebolt 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ben Teskey "Bullshit," no, that's actually opinion. People find use in MBTI, whether we find scientific evidence for it or not. It's fun, and it helps people talk about different ways of thinking and feeling. "You are the one deciding whether something is right or not." Yes, exactly. You decide how to define yourself. If you relate to some label, it's easy to just say so, and you can change it if you change your mind. It's just a bunch of shortcuts.
      "Stereotyping people and putting people into boxes as if they are destined to do certain things is absolutely ridiculous." I agree. It depends on how you use it. It's like walking into a dark room. If something is large and boxy, MBTI says that's probably a dresser (maybe it's a cabinet or something, but at least you have an idea). Until we find a light source, you can assume it's a dresser, or you can keep it in the back of your mind that it might be a dresser while you continue to gather information.

    I used to think only extroverts were good but through life and being in my 50's now I have come to the conclusion that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being introverted!!
    You are the BEST at starting a discussion and making us think

    Having studied psychology on a pretty basic level, I don't really have any credits on this subject. I do remember though this one time our teacher asked us to fill in a questionnaire related to Jung - didn't think about it much at the time, but I remember the results matching almost perfectly with my subjective perception of the world, as I saw it back then. Since then, I've always been interested in psychology and whether it's a science or not doesn't really matter to me.

      Literally just remembered about Clemmons.. But I mean a college professor, it doesn't really matter. It's more about the voice than who uses it. The lip smacking, pauses, and sometimes repeating words relaxes me and triggers me a few times.

    Was it Franklin who believed knowledge should be free, and shared his inventions with everyone? He believed that knowledge was just a discovery of something that already exists in the world, and questioned how a human could claim to "own" such an abstract concept.

    I looooved the video by the way! XD Just a bit about the archetypes of the mind, where would cases of privation occur? Like Genie or the French wolf-boy from the middle ages, they weren't raised in such a socially structured society and so became completely animalistic due to their lack of attachments and socialization etc.
    Could it be that the archetypes are a pattern of repeated behavior passed down from generation to generation, like a nursery rhyme, which would also explain the changing attitudes over time and differences to our ancestors? Do you think it has a more philosophical or psychological/cultural basis, personally?

    I am wondering if youre also a fan of the myers Briggs type indicator ( mbti ) ? They base they're work on Carl Jungs archetypes. There are 16 possible possible types.
    My personality type is infp. Part of me thinks that based on your depth of creativity, imagination, and introversion that youight be infp or infj. I've been a fan of yours for a long time and I can relate to many of your thoughts and ideas.

    I agree with some of carl jung's stuff, i took an intro psychology class in my first year in school and some of it seemed far fetched to me though. However, i did not read anything, just a few brief classes based around carl jung. but the reality of it is that there i no way to prove his beliefs true or false, so if it feels true to one person, then it IS true to them, and that's the basis of faith, However, i personally do not have such a positive outlook some things that you described in this video, such as when you were saying that there is a meaning to everything. To me, the consciousness that we have, the ability to acknowledge our own existence is great, and we are incredibly lucky to have it, but it doesn't go much beyond that. And when i say it is great, "great" is just a word. We are in fact insignificant, outside of us, that in no way make us insignificant to ourselves though. The way i see it there are two extremes to everything, and when those two extremes are combined, you get nature. and nature is perfect, and nature entices everything. Nature includes everything, and anything outside of nature is unreal, therefore, nothing is unnatural. Unnatural is merely a word that the human race has tagged to things and actions that are out of the norm. But in reality these "unnatural" things are completely natural. "Good" and "bad" are nothing more than ideas created by humans, and therefore nature doesn't choose one over the other, but unfortunately for our fragile makeup, nature can defeat us quite effortlessly.
    I dislike the amount of respect freud and jung's theories get. Nowadays people in the field of psychology throw them around as if they are jokes. They are not given enough credit, in the psychology class i took, the professor taught that that though freud and jung's theories are interesting, they are false. I remember the professor saying something along the lines of "the main reason we credit freud and jung when talking about psychology is because they were the first people to think about things in this way, even though they were wrong." This disappoints me, those two were the beatles of psychology and i personally think they don't get enough credit anymore.

    I like you with the beard, it gives you some contrast. Without any hair at all I think people look slightly strange, but you usually have a prop on your head or face which helps bring some contrast to your facial appearance. I'd highly recommend keeping the beard, it makes you look very nice.

    There is an interesting (if not always a page turner) book called 'quiet, the power of introverts in a world that cant stop talking'. It is a self reflective study into introversion and extroversion. Its by Susan Cain. It might be something you would enjoy :)
    Also thanks for the videos. They're always really relaxing and informative. Love your stories too. I'm an animator myself and I have contemplated the idea for a while of starting an animation you tube channel. Half to learn, half to discuss and theorise, and a smidgen of asmr too. Who knows, maybe ill find the time someday. Either way thanks for the inspiration to even consider it.

    It seems strange, I've herd many of these terms you say Jung coined through my life, like introversion and h.s.p. And yet I've never heard his name, this video has been a eye opener for me er, thank you very much for it. In addition I think I just about agree with everything you suggested. I would suggest to anyone interested in the synchronicity that you look up WB Yeats belief on cycles and external forces, I think the two ideas may relate. I agree with er and Jung, as I agree with Yeats also. Coincidences are too common to be coincidences.

    A couple years late on this one. Is anyone aware of any polls on type and asmr? For example, any patterns on triggers and type?
    I'm an INTJ and find myself heavily drawn to conversational whispering... roleplays of various types, especially friend roleplays of various intimacy. I'm curious how much of that is a side-effect of the stereotypical (and personally experienced) emotional distancing that INTJs are known for and how much is part of the ASMR experience in general.
    My ASMR really feels like a shivery delight of contact... perhaps as of someone getting through emotional walls? Walls that are safe to drop for a video, but go right back up when things get "too real."

    • @ebell1960
      @ebell1960 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a really interesting question! There isn't any polls like that that I'm aware of. I'm an ENFP and I personally enjoy soft-spoken rambles. It feels really casual and down to earth and that relaxes me.

    • @rareraspberry
      @rareraspberry 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      INTJ here too. I've wondered about this myself; if type as some correlation or even causation with the various kinds of asmr triggers. Personally, I think there isn't one. I've heard an ESTP say he gets asmr triggers from doing karate. I think the things which trigger us are those things which we didn't have as children, things which were absent during our early development. Or at least things we didn't have enough of. For me, I pretty much never trigger from conversation alone. It seems like a sexual thing for me, or perhaps an intimacy thing. I trigger best from women when they are close to the camera or scratch the mic. It could be the "emotional walls" you're suggesting.
      As for polls, I wouldn't trust one. Most people just rely on the tests to determine their type, without studying the theory. You've got to know these people are the type they say in order for the results to be accurate.

      I've gotten several times. Chills/tingles just from observing my own thoughts. Alone and in public at work. It's not SOLELY caused by the simple observation, but it often happens when I say some vague made up axiom AFTER observing previous thoughts. Idk if it's a built in reward system because I no longer receive them through videos. When those tingles did happen it felt like a reset. I no longer had any need or felt reason to sit and think. I just went back to a daily task whether a household chore, playing a video game, or reading. In that perspective it felt like an informational reset trigger.

    wait, according to Jung there's two types of ego: the one that is and the one how it wants to be perceived. The first is trying to influence the outside world, the second is influenced by it. Are the two both of each forming a whole, or are they opposites?

    I am not a person who experiences ASMR in response to auditory stimulus. In fact, I find type of speaking and many other auditory sounds that are supposed to trigger it intensely irritating. However, I am very curious about it. The sensation people describe as occuring with ASMR is very close to the feeling I get from an intellectually stimulating idea or conversation, hearing brilliant music, or perceiving meaning in any beautiful piece of film or artwork. It's a physical sensation, electrical and pleasurable - I interpret it as a sign that something is communicating with my soul (if there is such a thing). Can anyone who experiences auditory ASMR tell me if this is the same sensation?

    I wrote a comment here, about alchemy. But I can't find it anymore. I hope it wasn't censorship.
    I wrote about alchemy (in the sense of spirituality) that it has a danger of getting lost in it. That it might lead to "heaven" or "hell". Or to "hell" first and then very maybe to "heaven". There are old pictures which mock alchemists for having their kids sent to the poorhouse. Mothers even neglect their children to get to some higher level of existance. (And just because of that, these mothers won't get to that level.) I think that's a legit observation. The dream world (and such) can in fact become a nightmare, if people don't know what they're doing. They can get lost in their own brain, for example.
